I have been bitten by the Lazy Bug and seem to have an enormous case of The Fuckits today.
In my defense, I got a lot done yesterday.
Gah, really, I want that damn curtain rod hung up. I just don’t wanna hafta do anything - including putting on clothes because some handyman is coming over to do it for me.
And it turns out their fridge didn’t die - somehow the freezer setting was dropped to minimum. But they want our fridge. We’ll see what we can work out. I hate to be spending more money, but FCD really hates our fridge. So I don’t know…
I put Roxy down to nap on my side of the bed with a towel under the sheet. We have a waterproof mattress cover, but I’d rather the mattress pad not get wet. So we shall see how it goes. I just hope she falls asleep. She’s got to be exhausted, getting up around 5 and all. I know I am!
Congrats. Taters!! Don’t be a stranger! We miss you!
Anybody else’s allergies going ballistic today? It isn’t the smoke. I’ve accounted for that. But my eyes have been watering like crazy ever since I got up this morning.
I’m working on rolling over my pitiful 401 into an annuity…the process is most of what I’ve been avoiding for the past three months. In my case though the monthly payments will be going to keep the wolves from the door. Right now there is a snarling pack on the porch and getting bigger every day. I have however budgeted cake into the ensuing budget. And donuts and cookies and pizza delivered and Chinese food and hopefully road trips to see my sister and two faraway sons. Heavens, I miss hugging them!
Just wrap yourself in the curtain while the handyman is there putting up the new curtain rod.
And with Roxy in the house you’re wondering how that happened?
No smoke on my side of the country, but pollen has been particularly bad of late. My eyes are itchy!
Deliveries of new stuff have begun - the bedding for the guest room came today. A couple of cabinets are due here on Thursday. Shoes for FCD should be here tomorrow. And I think the curtains that match the bedding should get here this week. Wonder if I’d ordered anything else??
It was a chilly 46 degrees this morning. Funny how 46 is chilly in September but balmy in January.
No park today, as Echo is not in shape to go there. However, the lawn/fence guy showed up to fill in a few holes and made her day.
My poor little girl isn’t too interested in food, not even her favorite treats, and she wants to stay outside all day. So far she is leaving her stitches alone, so no zen collar for her, yet.
I thought it was going to be hard to keep her quiet but she seems to be doing that on her own. However, keeping her from jumping on stuff and using the stairs is not happening. I wanted to lift her onto the bed last night but she crawled under it when I tried, then jumped up after I got in bed.
I slept in until 7:20, and would have slept longer had it not been for a disturbing dream that I was very happy to wake up from.
I have stuff to do today but I think I’m going to take a nap instead.
No smoke this side of the pond, but we had fog in sympathy all day.
Irk is still a madhouse, though by all accounts the uni course I just finished is gonna be worse when it starts up this week- my former tutors hang round my current irkplace on occasion, as the course used to be run from there. They are actually increasing student numbers. To the point that there is no room they can fit even half the class in, and they’ve decreased the hours of some of the staff. Utter madness.I’m glad I’m finished, and I’m feeling very sorry for the people who have to deal with such stupidity.
Anyway, today is my mini-firday night, as I have Wednesdays off (at least at present- with the way stuff’s going who knows, by next week). The plan is to harvest the honey I have tomorrow, which may get interesting. I won’t have a lot, but enough to be worth bothering with at least.
Hugs all round as required, including Echo snuggles.
I got up and walked with a friend from my quarantine bubble this morning at 6:30 a.m., so now I feel all accomplished even though I haven’t gotten a ton done at work. SOMETHING got done, so yay!
But now I’m on the downswing. Since I was meeting someone this morning, I didn’t sleep well because I was paranoid I was going to miss my alarm. And, it was the earliest I’ve gotten up since March, so hopefully I’ll get a chance to conk out early. Now back to answering all the email I missed yesterday. It actually wasn’t that much - we have some big bru-haha going on with the senior leaders (I think they’re about to announce something or other) so meetings have been lighter than usual. Calm before the shitstorm.
Last week someone submitted an offer on something I’m selling on eBay. When I accepted the offer, he decided he didn’t really want it. Today I got an offer on that shearling jacket. When I accepted the offer, the buyer cancelled because he didn’t know he’d have to pay shipping.
When some really tacky, gaudy, possibly even camo “window treatments” show up, you ordered them. Yes, you did. Trust me. There are no lies on the internet.
[wanders off, whistling innocently …]
This is absolutely something Drunk Me would do (I have been told) but luckily for all of us, I sacked up & put on mah Big Girl Pants for a few minutes, and hung the damn double curtain rod my damn self, after taking down the old one, and put up a coat hook by the door for the shits and/or giggles while I was at it.
I also stealth-bragged to my dad, under the guise of thanking him for the stepstool he bought me (without which I legit would’ve had a difficult and unsafe time of it) and we wound up arguing about the damn A/C unit somehow, and whether not I should remove it next winter.
Jesus, man, just take the “W” and the thank-you and quit being such a cantankerous old fart!
{she says, to the wind}
It’s been hazy and pinkish-orange since, like, 3:30 p.m. At first, I thought “Dang, sunset really does come earlier up north!” but then I remembered the whole friggin’ western half of the country being on fire an’ all, and I assume either Oregon or Colorado smoke is being blown this way.
Dinner shall be a small chunk o’cow that’s marinating in My Other Shoe’s secret steak marinade.
I took his speakers and receiver to the Goodwill today, and felt the need to honor/appease his memory, somehow.
Swampy, the only thing healthy about that protein bar was the rhetoric on the package.
No, I’m still not dead, Rat. You can’t have my CDs.
Update: My pulse rate is back to normal (for me). Seems that epinephrine and diephenhydromine will both cause rapid heart rate, which is prolly where they got the V-Tac readings. My pulse was all over the place Sunday night and still elevated yesterday, but when I woke up (quite late) this morning, it was 59. My normal resting pulse rate is ~65.
While I thinking about it, I was really touched by all your expressions of concern for me.
[bro] I love you guys! [/bro]
(People have been telling me I was touched for years, but this is a different, good, kind of touched.)
Bet I can guess which one.
The smoke is a tiny bit lighter here today, and I’m tempted to go out and cut down the trim around the big door into the basement for the concrete guy, who’s coming Thursday at 7am, so he can do the entrance the way I want it so we can put a french door there.
Maybe I should leave it til tomorrow.
Decisions.
Taters! glad to see you here. I see you on the book of faces periodically, but I’m coming to hate that place and don’t go there so much these days.
I’m sure there’s something I should be doing.
Later.
Took a long nap.
Feeling better now that I am fully awake.
Echo is feeling much much better.
Adam has a very expressive face. When I got him, Mackie was still alive although blind and deaf. Adam would try to play with him and no response. Sometimes Mackie would walk through the house and if Adam was in the way Mackie would step on him.
One day Adam was watching Mackie, intently, and then turned to look at me and the look on his face said,‘There’s something wrong with him, isn’t there?’ After that, Adam was pretty careful around Mackie, like he understood Mackie just wasn’t normal.
Yesterday when I got home with Echo, Adam was out in the yard. Echo wasn’t wobbly or anything, but definitely not herself. She was walking kind of slowly, and didn’t even look at Adam. He ran past her and nothing. He watched her for a bit and then looked at me and said, ‘Something wrong with her?’
Well he just found out, she is back to normal. He ran past her and much to his surprise, she was right on his heels. Good thing there is a hole in the fence that Adam can fit through.
It’s good to see my little girl feeling better, but she’s not supposed to run. Then again, she is not supposed to go upstairs, not supposed to jump onto the bed, not supposed to jump on the bench under the window, not supposed to attack Ripple.
She’s not supposed to do anything but sleep, eat, and potty.
Sometimes you wonder if vets have any experience with animals.
Suddenly I regret sharing my home address with you…
Busy late day. We signed the contract to get the carpet and kitchen flooring - it’ll be about 3 weeks. I ran the carpet cleaner over part of the baby’s room, then left the ceiling fan on in there. Tomorrow, I’ll move the furniture back against the walls, and tomorrow night, I’ll clean the carpet in the middle of the room. I can also hang the blinds and curtains and put the switch plates back on.
I put the plates on the outlets and switch in the guest room and hung the blinds. Then after supper, FCD and I moved our bed into that room - we’ll be sleeping there 2 or 3 nights. First thing in the morning, we’ll remove all the stuff off the top of the furniture in our room so the painters can move everything to the middle and paint the walls and trim. And while they’re working in our room, I’ll cut back the carpet around the dining room so they can then get started in there.
Clearing the kitchen will be the biggest pain - I need to find out when they plan to paint there. All the small appliances and assorted gadgets will be piled on the dining table. The other mess will be my desk, but I’ve got a big box from a delivery today - I’ll set it in front of the pellet stove and load everything into it. I’ll have to take my computer off line, but I’ve still got the tablet, so there’s that.
