Morning all. Got 8 hours of sleep but doesn’t feel like it. Looking at the weather the storm is still south of Birmingham, so it might not get up here until later today or tomorrow. Still have a chance of rain today from outlying areas, but looks like L.A. (Lower Alabama) is going to catch much of the storm.
Don’t be hatin’, flytrap; some choose names, some choose greatness, after all…
Cats, I remember meeting my brother’s cat years ago. Came right up, got scrtiches from me, laid right in my lap…and then the ^&*#$%% BIT ME, hard enough to make me bleed, and took off. Give me dogs, at least they don’t bite the hand that feeds them (albeit they may slobber all over it…)
Boo, it ain’t quite that long (my hair that is). In fact, one of these days I’m going to have the barber just cut it all off and see if bald is beautiful…
Ok, need to finish waking up. Trash and Recyclables go out to the curb sometime today and Sudoku’s get solved, but that’s about all on the list. Take care all.
I am disappointed that it is only Wednesday. The week has been long already! Today is my husband’s birthday, and during my lunch, I’ll head to the store to get ingredients for the dinner he wants. Believe it or not, he wants Death Chicken (remember the MPP Recipe Book?).
Other than that, it’s work, work, work.
It’s still smoky and there is no real rain in sight. I would really love a good, all-day-long drenching rain. Everything is crispy here. I feel like we are turning into the Everbrown State, as opposed to the Evergreen State.
Blurf. Off to work in an hour. Didn’t feel like dinner last night, so Hunk O’Cow is still in the fridge. It’ll have had a loooong marinade time, hope it isn’t mushy by this evening.
Also, neighbors? I appreciate you spiffin’ the yard and all, but 7:30 a.m. is way to early for leaf blowers, okay?
It’s nice, open-window weather, and y’all woke me through my earplugs.
Nasty and dreary looking, but we’re promised sun and mid-70s. I need to head out in about an hour to fetch the spawn. All I want to do is sleep, even tho I had a pretty good night. i think it’s the overcast that’s dragging me down. Sunshine, dammit!!!
Howdy Y’all! We have procured provisions. Go Us! Still all cloudy and gloomy out with no rain to speak of yet, but it’s comin’’. I went to the Harvey’s sto’ and bought some collard greens. This means, of course, I now have to clean said greens, pack 'em up and get 'em into the freezer. So much irk! Worth the effort however. At some point today I shall, but not right now. I’m retired. I don’t want to. You can’t make me.
Happy Bday to Mr. Taters! Haven’t made death chikin in a loooooooooooong time. Might have to do that soonish.
Me too. I’m tired of the smoke. Coming over the Chuckanuts yesterday, it seemed clearer. I’m guessing the freeway is getting close to the top of the smoke layer. Bellingham and north seemed less smoky than on the south side of the mountains. I’d hoped the rain would help scrub the air, but what we really need is some wind. It sounds like we have to wait a couple more days… and it’s only Wednesday.
The sun is shining up here Moooom.
It was 46 degrees this morning, supposed to get up to 72 today.
Echo is driving us crazy. She has her energy back and can’t go to the park to run it off. Running around the back yard, which she isn’t supposed to be doing anyway, isn’t enough for her. She went out at 2 am, 4 am, and woke me at 5:30 to get up. My son said each time she went out he couldn’t get her to come back in. I put her out at 8 and I just now got her in.
I know I shouldn’t, but I’ll probably take them to the park tomorrow morning. It’s a small group and they don’t play too rough, mostly they like to run, and she can burn up some energy.
Or I can call the vet and get some pills to sedate her.
Along with dealing with Echo all day, I have some laundry to do, two bills to pay, and a few phones calls to make.
Lots and lots of coffee this morning. It’s cold here for the first time in a while. I love transition seasons, so I’ve been looking forward to fall a LOT. That said, I’m surprised the hummingbirds are still hanging about. I didn’t realize they chilled out in the Northern hemisphere until early winter. I was glancing out my window while caffeinating more and realized the feeder was low. I realized this because a hummingbird was sitting on top of it, staring all me all accusingly and when I looked down it was almost empty.
So I stirred together some sugar water and the ridiculous thing hovered for a minute a few feet away and waited, talking to itself, while I filled it up. I’m surprised Vito (which we’ve named the boid) didn’t start knocking on our window in impatience.
Whew - Roxy’s nap time! I’ll be glad when the painting is done and I can take her to the park to burn off her energy. Maybe we need a Roxy-Echo playdate?? If only you didn’t live so far away, sari.
When I was ripping up some carpet, I discovered that a section of floor near the dining room door is rotted - apparently when the door was installed, it wasn’t sealed properly, so for some of the last 10 years, water has been getting in. Dammit. We’ve got to get it fixed before the carpet can go in, and the carpenter who works with the painter is going to do it for us. We just need to buy some plywood. And some good caulk. Dammit.
Some sun is flitting in and out, but there’s a high cloud layer that diffuses is, so it’s not very warming. At least it’s not raining.
Sari, it might help to give her food puzzles. I don’t know what kind of toys you have on hand already, but there’s always the good old fashioned Kongs with treats in, plastic cups with a little peanut butter smeared on the bottom, and these balls… I can’t remember what they’re called. They’re not really marketed as treat dispensing toys, but they’re the best I’ve ever found (way better than Kongs, tbh, especially for a Shar Pei) aha- something like this and then you can put treats inside and, if you really want to make it a challenge or if she’s a shredder, stuff it with strips or pieces of fabric so that she has more stuff to pull out. Or other kinds of long-lasting delicious treats. Even (maybe especially) if they’re things she might not normally be allowed to have, like marrow bones (but watch her, obviously), or things that get expensive if you try to do them long-term, like Himalayan chews or bully sticks… it’s only for now.
Most vets, though, are more than happy to give you some mild sedatives and/or some just-in-case Clavamox.
Anyway, in my world… I’m itching to leave the house on my own for some purpose that isn’t healthcare-related. I thought I was supposed to have a phone appointment, but just checked my app and there isn’t one listed for today, so… I might get on either planning that or just dreaming about it (because it really is not the most responsible use of your already-tight money to Uber to Target- or anywhere- for essentially no reason other than cabin fever.)
Painters have left for the day - the master suite is done. Lah-dee-dah!!!
After Roxy gets picked up, I’ll drag the carpet cleaner in there and do around the perimeter of the room. When the guys come back tomorrow, they’ll move the big furniture back and I can clean the middle of the room. I think if I leave the ceiling fan on high, it should dry the carpet during the day and we can move our bed back in tomorrow evening. Oh, and I should iron the curtains that will hang in there.
Plus the carpenter will fix the floor tomorrow. FCD is picking up the plywood right now.
Roxy’s still sleeping! I have a few moments of true peace - no more country music!
Oof - I hate dental work! Hope it calms down soon!
My mom just sent me a picture of some hornworms she found on her pepper plants and now I’ll never unsee them. Yes, yes, they’re green caterpillars really, but holy crap those things are monstrous. They’re larger than some of the peppers and put that enormous saucer-sized roach that camped out in our bathroom when last we were in India to shame. Even worse, apparently they left these constipated looking little turds all over her balcony.
Supper will be jazzed-up hamburger helper lasagna. I added onions, diced 'maters, and diced 'shrooms, so lots of healthy to counteract the nasty that is HH.
After supper, I’ll clean some carpet areas, then veg. Tomorrow, paintage in the common areas will begin.
It was a dark and stormy day. That sums up the weather here. Rain. Lots of rain. Copious amounts of rain. Ginormous amounts of rain. On top of that, rain. Good day to be inside and dry. It seriously has not let up since around eleven this mornin’. We have flash flood warnin’s all over the place. Tomorrow looks to be the same. In other news, we have et vittles and chill mode continues. Cocktails were had out on the back porch as we watched the neverendin’ rain come down.
