I don’t think Lucy was actually egging him on. I think his “Keep on, brother, fall like me”(paraphrased) was actually meant to remind Amenadiel of what he was doing, and bring him back to awareness of what he was doing.
An interesting observation! Perhaps you’re right…
Lucifer’s status is getting more and more ambiguous. He was able to lift the (rather large) Spider guy with one arm, but he didn’t get the devil face we’ve seen in previous episodes. Does that mean anything?
Also interesting that Lucifer’s name is out there as someone to turn to when there is no one else (why the priest came to him). Is he still in a position to give favors? It seemed he didn’t want to help the priest at first, but maybe it’s because he can’t now.
I’m definitely loving Ellis. He’s such a gleeful devil!
His powers seem to be fading fast. Last week, he could levitate to the top of a building before Chloe knew he was gone. This week, he couldn’t get across a room to chase the two drug-dealing kids until the crowd dispersed, and when it finally did, he couldn’t keep up with Chloe running in her high heels.
Again, he didnt levitate anywhere, he took the elevator. If the showrunners had wanted to show he could fly/teleport/levitate, they’d have shown that.
They did. Everybody but you is clear on that.
I dunno. I thought he took the elevator, straightened his collar, flirted with several women, and saved the Dean. The time compression was because nothing in TV actually happens in real time. But I don’t obsess on little, off details while watching a show about the Devil in retirement. Perhaps you could try it; it’s easier on your blood pressure.
Great, now we have two doctors obsessing about other people’s health in this thread.
I spend maybe ten minutes a week on this thread, which I wouldn’t call an obsession, but for a show like this, it makes a lot more sense to point out amusing inconsistencies than it does to ponder the deep theological meaning (but, whatever floats your boat). DrDeth is so obsessed with* Lucifer* showing people smoking that he misses the obvious, and it was obvious that Lucifer went from standing on the sidewalk behind Chloe, to the roof of the building across the street in a bit over ten seconds, because (as someone else already mentioned) Chloe was talking on the phone the whole time, and there were no gaps in the conversation. I guess one could assume that she had a five-minute digression about shopping that they cut out of the phone call, but that would be stupid.
And it’s not the first time he’s teleported. In an earlier episode, Chloe left him locked in her police car while she went up to a house and pounded on the front door for a few seconds, then she heard a scream from inside. She kicked in the door and rushed into the bedroom where she found Lucifer calmly sitting in a chair, freaking out the couple in bed. Again, one could assume that after pounding on the door, she went and got a donut, and then came back and heard the scream, giving Lucifer time to get out of the locked car and into the locked house without her seeing anything. But that would be stupid.
I mean, come on. He’s* Lucifer*. He has all kinds of powers, and we’ve seen him demonstrate some of them. IMO it’s a serious weakness of the show that Chloe still doesn’t believe he’s at least supernatural after what she’s seen him do, but the showrunners obviously intend that the viewing audience knows he’s supernatural, and that whatever he does that seems impossible is a manifestation of his powers, and not the result of camera cuts.
Seriously, why would anyone watch a show like this any other way? ** DrDeth**, do you also have non-supernatural explanations for how Amenadiel stops time, or where his wings come from? What do you do when you watch Superman?
*Plenty *of supernatural stuff, but then they show it- clearly.
Look, it’s a 40+ minute show- they skip and compress things like that in many other shows all the time. If they wanted to show Lucifer teleporting- *they’d show him teleporting.
- Bamf- poof.
Why make it *not *obvious?
Why not just show him teleporting?
Even the DC comics version, who has hwaaaaay more powers- he can only fly, not teleport iirc.
But showing him here one moment, there the next, while his buddy is still having a brief conversation with someone, is EXACTLY how you show someone teleporting. It’s not flying through space, you know. It’s here, slam blame there, in a moment. Watch that scene again – Chloe’s conversation makes it clear there is no time compression in this scene, he has gone from here to there instantaneously.
They aren’t overplaying it, I give you that. One of the things I like about the show – they underplay some things, which is a treat. Ambiguity can be fun.
Agreed, they are stringing things out, keeping the viewers in the dark as to what powers Lucifer had and what powers Lucifer still has.
Rebecca DeMornay was unrecognisable.
Oh, is that who the mother was? I didn’t recognize her, either.
Anyone else get the sense they deliberately cast a larger guy there, so that it would be clearer he was using superhuman strength lifting the guy one-handed, both to us and Chloe?
How does he get to Hell, or other realms? Generally, comics-Lucifer is portrayed as near-omnipotent, at least in Hell and on Earth.
I really enjoyed seeing Trixie visiting Lucifer’s night club and bonding with Maze. Great scene!
Now I’m wondering – will Mazikeen get weaker (as did Lucifer) as she bonds more with the humans? Lucifer still might need her as his “bodyguard” in dangerous situations.
Yeah, especially now that I’m convinced he’s turning mortal and it’s not something to do with Chole herself being the only person able to hurt him. Or was he burnt because he was holding her - harm through transference? It’s probably a stretch at this point to think the writers would be that clever though, so I’m going with “turning mortal” now.
Boy, it sure would have been nice to teleport from a burning building…
Maze is shown at the end of the episode holding a single feather from his wings. I figure that keeps him open to reclaiming his rightful spot as the ruler of Hell, as well as reclaiming his immortality. Kind of like the original Christopher Reeve’s Superman where a single crystal from the Fortress of Solitude let’s him become Superman again after he gave it up to be human.
