New Year snow in the MMP

Good morning everyone.

I hope those that are sick and those that are in pain are all feeling better soonest.

The weather was certainly crazy yesterday with everything from a five-hour shutdown of a 20 mile stretch of I-5 due to flooding, wicked winds, and continued pass closures. A good many of the roads surrounding I-5 were underwater too, so it’s not like people could go around. WSDOT tweeted a picture that showed a semi that decided to ignore road closed signs on White Pass. The front of the semi was buried in snow, they had to rescue the driver and then come back the next day to get the truck out by backing it up. Dumbass. The flooding has crested and started to recede, so that’s good. We even had localized flooding around me, but I wasn’t impacted.

All is right in Polar’s world again because my husband went out and got him doggy ice cream yesterday. He also picked up suet for the birds. They were thrilled too and immediately swooped in to start feeding on it.

I just got done placing a Costco order and paying a stupid amount of money for 10 items and the convenience of having them delivered. However, it beats going to Costco on Saturday being surrounded by people who may or may not be immunized, as well as fighting the crowds and trying to find parking. I bought toilet paper and paper towels too.

I don’t have any place to be or any real plans; depending on the weather I may take myself over to the park and try to get some walking in.

Johnny, I hesitate to ask, but what is a tub-o-tentacles?

Poking in to report that I have not yet frozen to death.

Neighbor plowed my driveway anyway, even though we’re not really cool anymore. I’m avoiding him.

Landlord came by for an inspection, and found the ratties. That wasn’t a pleasant surprise.

Too much drama for me. People are just … yanno, I don’t have an elegant finish for that sentence.

Sorry about the inspection, purplehorseshoe, but I’m glad you aren’t posting from the great beyond.

At 1:30 PM the outside temp is still a few degrees below freezing. Unacceptable! Luckily, I have no reason to leave the house today other than occasional forays into the back yard to let the doggy out (thank goodness the wicked wind from yesterday has not returned). Because getting to my laundry room involves a few steps outside, I need to figure out whether I’d rather do laundry in the freezing cold or wait until tomorrow’s rain. Decisions, decisions…

I am disappointed to report that the pepper jack chaffles were disappointing. Hardly any cheese flavor at all, and practically no “pepper.” I guess I should stick with sharper cheese, and buy more cheddar. I likely won’t even bother making them again with the pepper jack.

I did wind up watching a movie last night: I finally got around to watching Promising Young Woman. I’m not sure how, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. And I know it won an Oscar for best original screenplay (and got nominated in a bunch of other categories), but I wasn’t all that impressed…particularly, I didn’t care for the ending. The acting was good, with a stellar supporting cast, but that’s about the best I can say for it.

I spent most of this morning working on transcribing one of the songs that will be in my set next month: I have a handwritten chord chart, which is all the band needs, but I’d like to make a nice clean lead sheet and there seems to be no published sheet music for this tune at all – IOW, I can’t cheat. Eventually I’ll ask my pianist/workshop instructor (aka the one who wrote the chord chart for me a million year ago) for help, but I like trying to figure these things out on my own…even though doing so usually results in a headache. Transcription is always a real challenge for me: figuring out the notes is easy, but I struggle with notating the rhythms correctly and ending up with the appropriate number of measures. I made some progress, but am giving up for the day.

Time for some lunch! I think 1/4 cup of tuna-and-light-mayo plus a slice of reduced-fat Kraft cheese are on today’s menu. Then, more small-screen (well, 50" screen) entertainment shall ensue.

Sold my house. Just gotta get through a ten day inspection period and closing isn’t until Feb 22 due to buyer also buying another house tween then and now. Suits me. Gives me more time.

I have found a lovely little house in Monticello Florida which is on the Georgia border ,so cold, but the price is right and it’s everything I want and need except I’ll have to put in a fence. It’s a tiny town of about 3000. There is a grocery store and shops and a furniture store. Eventually I’ll need a new living room set. It will also put me close to my family in Jawja. I am making an offer well below asking so we shall see. Sonny boy is looking at one in Melbourne today but it’s pricey and I don’t want to be that close to him.

My ankle is slowly getting better. One reason I accepted the first offer is I needed to rest it, don’t want strangers in my home during a pandemic and it’s ok if I leave the dog toys scattered or a dish in the sink. My neighbor is still walking Buddy. I need groceries but Shipt adds so much to the price. I suppose I can lean on the cart and hobble through or even use a handicapped cart but I may just ask my yard lady to go for me. I’m sure she will. I want to watch football today and tomorrow and Moanday but I don’t have cable anymore and don’t really want to buy ESPN so decisions must be made. I can watch with neighbor but that’s too many up and down stairs trips.

Here’s hoping everyone who is sick and in pain gets well soon. I also hope the weather settles down for y’all too.

I hope that works out ok. :worried:

Sunny you and Beamer doing OK?

We’re doing ok. I’m feeling like I have a bad cold. 'Beamer’s feeling like he’s got the flu. So far, so good I would say.

Sorry y’all are sick but it could be so much worse. Here’s hoping it stays mild. Even colds and flu suck though. Rest, drink fluids, sleep.

That looks to be just a bit down the road from swampy’s cave! Well maybe an hour anna half more or less, since I don’t know exactly where he lives. Still, close. I do recommend you avoid the Jacksonville area - very crowded. I was glad to escape. I’d hate for you to make that mistake…

I just finished putting the furniture back in this room - well, the little stuff. I didn’t move the big stuff since I was cleaning mainly the traffic area. I also turned off the pellet stove in the shop - it was 76° out there! That little stove really throws out some heat!

Supper tonight will be the sous vide poke I cooked yesterday - it’s warming in the convection oven. I’ll do crinkle fries in the air fryer, then nuke some broccoli in beef broth for flavor.

FCD rode his bike for 10 minutes. He’s walking almost normally! BBBoo - I’ve added the tylenol and advil (both generic) to his meds and it seems to have made a difference. So yay!! But he’s driving me crazy - he wants to ride to Oxford. Nope, not going to drive 2+ hours there and 2+ hours back just to look at the boat. He can’t climb aboard anyway. So no. Maybe I’ll take him to DQ instead. Or breakfast tomorrow? We shall see.

Mostly tonight, tho, will be chillage.

I only saw one baby octopus in the tub-o-tentacles, so I didn’t eat it yesterday. I just did eat it. It was a little on the tough side but, of course, tasty. The cuttlefish is the consistency of cooked tuna or white-meat chicken, so not tough at all. The adult octopus tentacles are somewhere in-between. Since I got it at Costco, I suspect that they will not have it when I want some more.

Thanks so much for all the advice. I’ve been too busy to update, but I called the doc yesterday for advice. He upped her oxy dose to 15 mg. and added ibuprofen to her meds. (After my last surgery, my doc cautioned me not to take Tylenol along with oxycodone because there’s already acetaminophen in the oxycodone, and he said too much Tylenol is dangerous.) Last night I set my alarm so she wouldn’t be getting the oxy only after the pain woke her. Today her pain level has been much lower, so I guess all those measures worked.

I told the doc she was in so much pain, she was shaking, and he said to wait to do the exercises until after the increased oxy dose kicked in and her pain level decreased to 6/7 from 8/9. Thank heavens, her pain level did decrease late in the afternoon, and she got in 3 exercise sessions in out of the 5 daily required. Today she’s right on track. We decided to go back to the original dose of oxy (10 mgs.) tonight and see if that’s enough now.

Oh, and Bumba, she has a machine very like the one you recommended, and it does help. Man, does it go through ice, though!

Anyway, she’s better. She’s a very sweet person who’s always cheerfully put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own, and I’m so happy I get a chance to nurture her and hopefully spoil her a little.

I need to catch up on mmp posts, but my attention is really fragmented. It’s taken me most of today to get this post done. I’ll do better as my duties here lighten. {{{{Mumpers}}}}

FCM I can attest to bike (stationary) being a great recovery for knee troubles. I’ve had ACL replacement in one knee and menicus removal in the other. The bike got me off of crutches weeks faster than the docs thought. (I was a much younger man back then, but I bet the idea persists)

Don’t let FCD get too energetic too soon. He will feel ok, but the muscles still need to re-learn how to work properly. I know I pushed it trying to paint the set for a play while rolling around in a desk chair.

Off to do something fer dinner. I’m thinking I’ll hot up some beef stew that’s in the freezer.

Stay safe, y’all.

And then there’s that mystery debit in our checking for $550 to a bank that I’ve never heard of. I did a chat with a credit union rep and the withdrawal has no details other than FCD’s name, but he didn’t do it. I can’t recall a transaction for that amount, so I did a possible fraud report and we’ll see what they find. I’m pretty sure I’d remember spending that much money…

No DQ, but I ran to the dollar store and got some ice cream - we’ll make our own sundaes!

Howdy Y’all! We et chili and cornbread for sup. Fartfest now ensues. I make some gooooood chili if’n I do say so myself.

MOOOOOOM and Nellie glad your respective patients’ pain levels are less today. May much more improvment over all be shown soonest.

flyboy I want a tub o’ tentacles. It would squick OYKW right out, which is all the more reason for me to want a tub o’ tentacles. We do not have a Costco nearby, so I have no idea where I might find such a thing locally.

Sunny glad beamer and you are doin’ somewhat better today.

Butters you might have to buy sweatpants, sweatshirts, and a lined jacket to live in Monticello. It will be positively Arctic compared to where you live now. I think Monticello is or at least used to be a place to go antiquin’.

Mooooooom, had you seen all of the buggies on Thursday, I would say that they were celebrating Christmas. The Amish where I grew up in Indiana celebrated according to the Julian calendar. That’s good news on FCD’s progress.

Yay on the sale butters!

Oy! The market was crazy today. People who didn’t do their French toast shopping Wednesday were out in full force. I couldn’t find fresh spinach at either grocery stores where I was, so I made do with leaf lettuce for salad and frozen spinach for tomorrow’s curry. There was no butternut squash either, so’s I made do with a couple of small acorns.

The car pulled the check engine light then run rough for a bit thing briefly. I’ve noticed that it tends to do that if it’s set for more than a day. After I stopped at Aldi and shut it off, it was OK for the rest of the day. I’ll go get something tomorrow just to keep it exercised. I’ll be glad when the dealership has the chance to look at it.

All of you sickies / injured feel better soonest!

Butters I misspoke re Monticello. I got it confused with Madison, Fl. Duh. Madison is know for bein’ antiquey. I think there is still a greyhound racetrack there or at least somewhere in Jefferson County.
Monticello is south of me straight down US 19, about a hunnert miles, I think. It’s real close to Tallahassee.

I found a site that says ‘buy online’. I entered a ZIP code for Atlanta, and it said it wasn’t available there.

Here’s one recipe.

Here’s another.

flyboy I too, want a tub o’ tentacles. However I’m much too lazy to make that, though it looks delicious. If’n I can find it pre-made, on the other hand, I’ll grab it.

sunny Hope the improvement continues.

Somebody remind me not to let the laundry pile up more than 3 weeks. It’s not that I run out of clothes, it’s just that during winter, when clothes are larger, it gets too big.

missred I hear you on the vehicle misbehaving. My truck has decided that the cabin blower motor will only work on high. And then it smells of electricity. One should not smell the electrons.
