New Year snow in the MMP

I think they were hoping the nerve block would wear off. No such luck…

I’d been planning to start going back to the office every T/W/TH this week, but NOPE!

Six inches of snow fell yesterday. Even though I’m feeling perfectly fine these days (6 weeks post-op) I’m wary of doing much shoveling, so I paid a neighborhood teen to clear my front sidewalks yesterday afternoon (hooray for local teenagers!). Unfortunately, he wasn’t up to shoveling my gravel driveway – but that’s totally fine/understandable. He did try, but gravel is tricky to shovel and he quickly became unsure about it. Normally if snow is expected I move the car to the very end of the driveway, but this time I completely forgot so there’s a bit of a stretch to clear behind the car. I went out after he’d left to treat the sidewalks (with paw-friendly ice melt), and realized that I should have asked him to shovel from the street to the driveway. I’m sure he would have. Oh well. I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere this week! I did shovel two narrow paths on my patio: from the back door to the yard (so I could take the doggy out), and from the back door to the laundry room door (it’s nice to have some storage and a full-size washer and dryer, but I have to go outside to get to it…at least that room is connected to the heat/AC!).

They’re calling for snow again Thursday night. If it’s enough to close the schools, maybe I can pay that same kid to come back on Friday. Otherwise, I’ll see what I feel up to tackling on Saturday. It’s supposed to be in the 40s with rain on Sunday, so I’m hoping Mother Nature will take care of whatever I can’t get to. I have an early lab appointment on Monday, so the hermit-i-tude will need to end then.

I’m fully vaxxed and boosted, and I was never paranoid about delta or OG COVID, but last week I got a little paranoid about omicron and ordered: N95 masks for the first time (the first box arrived a few days ago), a fingertip pulse oximeter that arrived yesterday, and a self-administered PCR test from Amazon that just needs to be dropped at a UPS Store (there’s one less than 3 miles from home) and I should get online lab results in 24 hours. That also arrived yesterday. All just in case! I started to worry about having symptoms but not being able to quickly find any kind of test, and I’d also read about how rapid tests are less reliable than PCR. I hope I never have to open either the pulse oximeter or the test kit, but at least now I feel prepared.

Ferndale is the name of the town I grew up in (for the most part; I was a bit of a DoD brat).

YAY for plow angels!

When I lived in a townhouse cul-de-sac, the HOA would have guys in Bobcats come clear the street…if I was outside when one of them was around, they would always clear my driveway for me. Two minutes to do what would have taken me an hour. It was awesome.

I totally get them not wanting him to be a fall risk at home…or, at least, less of one…but sorry about FCD’s extended stay. I’m sure you both wish he were home.

Moooooom, I hope that your plow angel reaps the good karma that he generated. During my last hospital stay, the caffeinated beverages for me were lousy coffee or diet coke. I had my niece bring some unsweet tea and a batch of good teabags up for me. I hope that you got him more than just the drink whilst at Mickey D’s.

nut, I hope whatever ick you have is not horrible and short in duration.

Feel better soonest sunny!

Yesterday, I began my reduced wages at irk. After doing the math this fall, I made the decision to start the job hunt again after Christmas, so I’m submitting resumes. I’m hoping for Chewy (they haven’t opened yet) or our main competitor, where I would know quite a few of the staff, including management.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s our last night in Vegas, we did our tests and filled out all the forms to upload to VeriFly so we are fit to fly tomorrow evening.

Moooom sorry to hear FCD had to stay in, but at least you get time to do what you need, and you can ignore the snow.

Nut I hope your ick is not too icky. I brought a pack of LFTs with me so I know what I’ve got is just a cold. I was still worried about it until I got my negative result and uploaded the document.

We have to take PCR tests when we get home and then isolate until we get a negative result from that too. We bought kits from Amazon so just need to do it and drop it off or get it collected from home. My plan is to do that after we drop off suitcases, fetch the cats and do a quick whizz round the supermarket!

Evening all. Dinner has been consumed and all the washed dishes are in their proper places. Got two more books delivered today, so am not lacking for reading material. Nappage became sleepage this afternoon, almost 2 hours of it, so staying up late is a definite possibility.

boo fae, safe travels tomorrow. Going direct to London-seems I remember they have flights there-or do you have to change planes?

red, yeah, I’d be looking around too. Good luck.

FCM, hope the block runs out tonight so he can head home tomorrow.

Sunny, there is always more paperwork…

OK, onward into the evening. All y’all take care.

Howdy Y’all! Aside from making the soup and cornbread, today has been a day of much sloth. Cool weather (cold for here) with a high of 48 Amurrkin but it was N.O.S. all afternoon which was nice.

Flyboy happy Doperversary! I saw the piece of cake by your name.

nuts hope it’s just a very mild case.

taters glad you’re feelin’ better today.

BooFae have a safe flight back to Merrye Olde Englande.

Sunny may this be the last of the paperirk.

red appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed you find a new gig soonest.

MOOOOOOM sorry FCD didn’t get to come home today, but best to play it safe I reckon.

MetalMouse hope the garage door fix is not too expensive.

Nettie hope you’re not sans water for too long.

Oopsie you got a good neighbor kid there. Young muscle is best for stuff like shovelin’ snow

They closed lobby service just as i got there and the drive thru line was stupid long, so I went to the Dash In across the street.

His nerve block quit a bit ago and he’s hurting. They’re drugging him. Poor baby.

My daughter will work from home tomorrow so I won’t have Toby. That’s one less problem. Now, what about the weather? Threats of rain and snow in coming days. I am not impressed.

And I’m about to head to bed. I’s tahred…

Up from naptime. The snow didn’t stick, and there were just a few patches of possible black ice on the road this morning. Too fecking cold, though.
TIL that “Dry January” doesn’t mean doing a 31 day martini cleanse. :cocktail:

: crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages for :
Nut
Sunny
FCD

Good luck on the search, red.

Safe travels, BooFae!

: waves back :

Not sure if the water to my specific building really did get shut off after all. Either way, I just got out of a nice soak in the tub with a book. Must remember to run the dishwasher just before bed (in the pathetic hope that that way, more stuff doesn’t materialize in the sink while the machine’s still running. That’s just discouraging).

My luck runs more to docs saying my surgeries were journal articles. The guy who plucked out my gallbladder said it was “technically difficult” which is ominous from someone who probably does three gallbladders a day. No idea if he wrote about it. And then there’s last year’s colon remodeling that had a poor outcome. Could be worse. Beyond “poor” is “dismal” and nobody wants that!

Happy, festive Doperversary @Johnny_L.A :partying_face::tada::confetti_ball::cake:

Cheers!:cocktail::cocktail:

Happy Doperversary!!!

I didn’t know!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a balmy 32 degrees right now.

I’m back home, which is closer to central Switzerland than Geneva.

My friend is in Brazil and was complaining about the 33 degrees. Of course she was talking about degrees Celsius.

Have to work today and get boosted. Will be a bit of a long day, as mornings are still way too early.

Happy hump day!

Why do I still wake around 5? I wanted to sleep in!

I bought a big head of cabbage yesterday so I’ll attempt to make stuffed cabbage today. Which means I need to start by steaming some rice and scalding the cabbage. Guess i should get up and get showered.

Not sure what else is in store, other than bringing my sweetie home. Happy Wednesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 65 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall lay in provisions and I shall head over to the church house to attend to some church janitor JW duties. Two and a half weeks and I shall be free of those duties! Sup shall be grilled steaks (NY strips), loaded baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. This is mostly due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for steak.

MOOOOOOM hope you get FCD home today without a hitch.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and much bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. Life can be so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Showered, dressed, breakfasting, caffeinating, plus I’ve got the ice maker and rice steamer both running, and I refilled the pellet stove. And it’s not yet 7!!!

Food Lion has diet coke on sale, so I’ll stop there on my way to the hospital and lay in a supply. I still have a little tidying to do - I kinda lost all motivation last night. The stuff we brought back from my bro’s on Christmas is still on the counter, fercryinoutloud!! This surgery nonsense has thrown a monkey wrench into my routine.

I was just now figuring - FCD won’t be allowed to drive till March, so I’ll be hauling him to therapy three times a week till then, on top of wrangling a babby. I just hope he reschedules all his therapy till late so I can drop him off, then take Toby to his mama, and go back to fetch him after therapy. I feel like I’m choreographing drunken elephants!

This isn’t how I envisioned retirement… :stuck_out_tongue:

Good morning everyone.

It’s 34 degrees outside and there is still snow and ice on the ground. Yesterday the roads were horrific due to black ice and regular ice, so I worked from home. Multiple accidents, including multi-car accidents and slide-outs abounded. Today looks to be much the same, so I’ll stay home again.

I hope everything goes smoothly with FCD’s pick-up today, FCM. It certainly sounds like you’ve got a lot of driving ahead of you in the next three months between all the therapy and Toby wrangling pick-ups and drop-offs.

I am extra tired and worn down and I don’t know why. I allowed myself to stay in bed until 4:00 today in hopes of a few more minutes of shut-eye.

Well, that’s all the news that’s fit to print, I guess. Yesterday was my daughter’s 32nd birthday. I am agog; how the hell did THAT happen? I still see that funny, bright little three-year-old telling her great-grandmother that her daddy was a turkey and laughing. I still hear that little voice asking us to “play tea-party” and asking to watch “Kirsten movies”.

Have a great day everyone.

I know what you mean. My baby is 36! She has babies of her own. And a job. And a mortgage. What happened to this little girl???
Imgur
Wasn’t I 36 just a few weeks ago??

Rice is steamed, dishwasher is emptied, and the cabbage is in the pot waiting for the water to get hot. No call from the hospital yet - I’m guessing the doc hasn’t been in to see him. So I wait…
