New Year snow in the MMP

:astonished: I have been remiss! :astonished:

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

I was going to post a 15-second video of part of my commute last night, but Imgur says ‘Yikes ! It appears this upload failed.’ Here’s the caption I was going to use:

A little bit later, it really started snowing. A couple of miles up, a Mustang was tail-in to the cable barrier with its front end damaged. A semi and another vehicle were on the right shoulder. A mile past that, on the southbound side, some sort of truck was in the ditch to the right of the freeway, turned around and on its side. The Prius doesn’t like snow, but I used engine braking and only slipped a couple of times.

The video shows out my windshield. There’s a vehicle in front of me, and a semi in front of him. My speedometer shows 5 to 7 mph.

Happy \color{red}{\text{Red}} Day!!!

I just finished building a big pot of gołumbki that will be cooked up later for tonight’s supper. The cabbage I bought was big, so there are some good-sized rolls in there. Much yum awaits us! Then I tidied the kitchen - more dirty dishes than I like, but they’re loaded in the dishwasher.

FCD called - the doc has seen him and she wants PT to evaluate him one more time, then he can be released. I’m just waiting for the call. Visiting hours don’t start till 2 - if I haven’t heard by then, I’ll just go to the hospital and wait with him.

Till then, I wait.

Morning all. The garage door guy was here about 9:15am, and after some yanking and banging, the door works again. Cost me $125, which is a lot better than the $2-3,000 it would cost me to replace, so I made sure to tip him a $20 for lunch. Now I need to go to the bank since I have exactly $2.67 in my pocket.

Happy Orbit Completion day, Red

FCM, hope the scheduling works out.

flyboy, :open_mouth: Glad you made it home in one piece. Be safe out there.

Taters and FCM, don’t have kids, but my niece turned 30 this year, wondered how the heck that happened so fast.

OK, off to the bank and then onward into the day. Everyone have a great hump day.

The news is saying Whatcom County is going to get hit fairly hard. Again. They said, ‘If you have any errands to do, get them done today. And stock up.’ More snow is expected to start here around 16:00, continuing through 06:00 tomorrow before turning to freezing rain until 10:00 and rain after that. If the Prius will move, I can go down to Burien. I’ll try to get it on the road around noon to refuel.

Here in no. Illinois it is 12 degrees F with a windchill of minus 8. The wind is 25 mph. Of course todayis garbage day and cans were knocked over from the wind. It’s not a fit night out for man nor beast. My VP who is an MD told our entire division to irk from home as much as possible due to high COVID numbers.

Wifey, RN just left to visit her patients. As noted previously, the roads here are frozen. 4WD/AWD doesn’t do any good on ice, but it should help. I wanted to be sure she does have AWD, and I found this thread I posted in 2016.

So I have peace of mind.

And I’ve got my sweetie home with me. I just finished drugging him and gave him some cinnamon toast to have something on his stomach. He’s in his recliner at the moment, and until I’m more confident in his strength, I’ll be following him in his walker. Good times!

I need to chill a bit.

Pins and needles time… A teacher friend of ours tested positive for Covid on Monday after getting a positive on a home test. No idea if he picked it up at school, or from his family, but they were in my house for a couple of hours on New Year’s Eve. Another friend tested positive, and we had Christmas dinner with them, so we were in the same house as them for a handful of hours.

Time will tell if getting the booster in early November will keep us uninfected…

The rain continues to continue in Portland and the continuation will continue to continue for the next three days before that strange yellow thing reappears in the eastern sky. But rain is better than the feet of snow they’re getting up in the Columbia Gorge and in the mountain passes. The ski lodges even had to close because they got around 5 feet of the white stuff.

Heading to the doctor later today to have him look at my right thumb. Durn thing is giving me some significant pain at this point, which I’m assuming is arthritis, but I really can’t afford to have an operation at this point as we are really trying to get things organized for moving later this year (and with covid going nuts, I probably couldn’t get scheduled anyway). I’m hoping for a steroid injection of some sort. And then there’s the left knee that’s acting up, which could be anything from cartilage to a failing joint. I can live with it for now.

On the plus side, my kids are very happy that we’ll be living closer to them. My daughter was actually crying. Or maybe the thought of me being that close drove her to tears.

In other news, I’ve just realised why my program wasn’t working the other day. While I’ve renamed the paths to input and output in other programs, I neglected to change the path for programs that take files directly instead of me prepping them and exporting them.

Afternoon, mumpers! We have checked out of our hotel, stopped off for lunch and are now chilling in a bar until it’s time to head to the airport. Flight leaves around 9pm tonight and we land just before 3pm tomorrow. I am tired just thinking about it.

Mooooooom, yay for FCD’s return home. May he have a speedy recovery. When I made galumpki at Dad’s at Thanksgiving, I actually took my own bowl to scald the cabbage, since he’s pared down his cookware to just what he uses. Each of us has a big drawer in his kitchen to keep stuff or leave stuff for other sisters, so I always know where a couple of casserole dishes are, but otherwise it’s slim pickins.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Fifty nine doesn’t feel much different than fifty eight. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

A certain cat was less than amused with me. I wasn’t quite fully alert when I started to sit down at my desk this morning, and the seat of the chair was lumpy and squirming. Turned out the Princess had decided that Mom’s desk chair was a great kitty bed. No injuries to either party, she got some apology nip/silvervine blend, and she seems to have forgiven me.

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done, provisions got procured, sup got made and et. That pretty much sums up the day here at da cave. Have I mentioned lately how much I love bein’ a retired drain on society?

MOOOOOOM glad FCD is home again. May he be on the mend soonest.

Nettie glad you have been forgiven.

I have a question to ask you all. Tomorrow morning, early, I have a dental appointment, a cleaning. I’ve already emailed, and left a phone message asking for the office to call me in the morning. Locally we have more snow and ice predicted tonight and given my walking is still a little shaky I’m not sure I want to go out if it’s ugly.

If you have ever worked in such an office would you be upset if I postponed the appointment? I’d be perfectly willing to pay for the missed time. If you have any advice can I have it please?

Out of curiosity, I looked up recipes to see how close they were to my grandmother’s. She didn’t mix pork with the beef, but apart from that, most were very similar. One used beef broth to cook the rolls rather than water as I’ve always done. Well, beef broth is a GREAT addition! My grandmother didn’t know what she was missing!

My daughter and the grands joined us for supper, and I still have a lot left over - it was a BIIIIIIIG cabbage!

Looks like I will have Toby tomorrow, plus I have to pick up Roxy, then take FCD to therapy. We figured out the logistics - it’s going to be interesting, but I managed to minimize drive time. Plus, since the therapy place is close to Food Lion, while FCD is being tortured, I can go pick up some diet coke on sale!

For now, tho, chillage is in order. I’m beat!

If the weather is as nasty as promised, the office may not even open, or it may open late. But considering the circumstances, I can’t see them putting a naughty sticker on your file. Especially since you’re reaching out to them already. It’s not like you just don’t bother to show up.

Anyway, my 2¢.

Got back from getting SWMBO’s propane, and there was a VM on my work email. Boss wants my input on updating a page on our website. Only missed his call be a couple of minutes. :sunglasses:

I put some ice melt on the part of the walk in front of the front door. I also got a 25-pound bag while I was getting the propane. That 50-pound bag I got a couple of years ago, and barely used, is almost gone. There’s maybe four inches of it in Charlie. I did get fuel in the Prius. No want drive. (I took the Jeep to the hardware store.)

Oh, I called the boss back and told him about the winter storm warning for up here, and I’ll be telecommuting tomorrow.

I put two chicken thighs and four chicken legs in the oven at 400ºF. After they cook for 25 minutes, I’ll baste them on both sides with BBQ sauce, bake them for 7 minutes, and repeat twice more.

Haven’t heard from Mrs. L.A. She said before she left that she might not be home until 16:30. It’s 17:00 now. She’s probably just taking it slow – as she should.

ETA:

Wifey, RN has been doing a lot of rescheduling the past week and a half due to the weather. She visits her patients in their homes, and she needs to be able to get there. One patient called her this morning to let her know the road conditions at her house. I think that was Mrs. L.A.'s first visit this morning, and I think she made it.

I believe they would be accepting of your caution, I know my dentist’s office would be. After all, your health and a long life to enjoy it are their reason for being. You were more than considerate in reaching out to them.
