Let me describe part of the orifice. On one end, there are two orifices, and a wall at the end of about a six-foot hallway, off of the kitchen. A cow-orker wasn’t feeling well last week and thought she had COVID. She got a test (probably a rapid test instead of a PCR test) and it came back negative. I chatted with her Tuesday. The opposite office door was closed, as that cow-orker wasn’t in the orifice. She was at her desk, and I stayed outside of her door with my cloth mask on. Another cow-orker came to chat. She had me cornered between the closed door, the wall, and the other cow-orker’s door. I’m pretty sure she’s unvaccinated, and I don’t remember if she was wearing a mask. She was blocking my way out to the kitchen.
Now the cow-orker who wasn’t feeling well has tested positive for COVID (and she also has the sinus infection still). Do not like!
Our Admin, who wasn’t feeling well last week, and whom I haven’t seen, is feeling poorly. She was tested a few days ago, and the results were negative.
Evening, mumpers! Just a quick check-in to let you know we arrived safely back on the ground in London. Staying here tonight and then driving home in the morning.
I is tires, bit it is not sleepytime yet…got to stay awake for a couple more hours before attempting snoozles.
Feel better soon, sickies! Hugs and whatnots to everyone, and I will catch up properly later!
The doctor confirmed that it is indeed arthritis causing the thumb and knee problems. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to do an injection in the basal joint of the thumb, so that’s out, and surgery would mean fusing the joint, so that’s also out. He’s referred me to a hand therapist so I can learn some exercises to strengthen that area, so that should help. As for the knee. . .well, you just have to live with it and use care when climbing stairs, etc. until it gets to the point where you’re nearly immobilized by it and require knee replacement. So it’s a race to see whether the grave or the doctors win out.
Happy belated Birthday to Cupcakes and Red! Sorry, I was otherwise engaged.
When Wifey had her knees done they gave her a curious little thing; looked like a round cooler about 16" tall that we could fill with ice and water. It had a hose coming out of it to a bag of sorts that could be velcroed all around the knee. Worked a treat. Iffen you was closer we coulda given you one of them, we just threw one away 'cause we don’t have room for more stuff and didn’t need 2 of them.
That’s really all I’ve got, and it takes me forever to type anyway, so I’m out.
dogbutler about retirement, my mother once said “I don’t know how I found time to go to work.”
I didnt go to the dentist this morning. It was very cold but I could have handles that. The problem was the dusting of hard little snow crystals, making the walk slippery. I rescheduled for next Monday.
Howdy Y’all! We went to Sonny’s for N.O,L. as I stated earlier. We went at a little after one o’ clock and the place was farily empty so we got in and out of there fairly quick. Since it was fairly empty we didn’t have anyone sittin’ near us, which is a good thing right now. Other than that we practiced our sloth skills and achieved nappage. I am still full from N.O,L. That was one big bbq sammich, plus the fries. Had another text exchange with EYP, the Senior Warden, and myself re covid. Looks like we shall, at least, go back to mandatory maskin’ beginnin’ January 16th. Here we go again!
CupCakes you made a wise decision. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative come Moanday.
FlyBoy yikes! Still, better thee than me. Hope your co-irkers did not give you the plague.
Cookie hope the hand excercises help with the thumb. I have no real knee problems yet, but I know it’s a matter of when, not if, I do.
BooFae I trust by now you are safely back home and seekin’ forgiveness from your feline overlords.
Nut continued crossed appropriate/inappropriate appendages that you don’t have the plague.
red yikes! Glad you made it home safe and sound.
{{{Shoe}}} hope all works out with your manager and that snow shovelin’ was not too sucky.
flyboy, I’m thinking that I’d irk from home for the duration in your shoes.
I suited Nelson and me up for his afternoon constitutional. I realized that in the past week, he’s been out in just his harness, in his raincoat, in his trucker coat and the Marlboro Man coat (suede with lamb’s wool lining) with booties. Other than a couple of ties that his Auntie bought him, those are all of the clothes he owns! Weather in the south be cray-cray.
I opened up the laundry room door, given that it has no ductwork and it’s on an outside wall. The last thing I need is to have water lines freeze in there.
I’m not sure I’ll be able to take the car in tomorrow. It all depends on how much of the white stuff is off the roads in the late morning.
Howdy, everyone! It’s nearly 6pm, 38 degrees outside, and they’re calling for more snow overnight. Most of the 6" we got on Monday has melted off the roads and paved surfaces, so of course it’s time for more. {sigh} The latest forecast says to expect 2-4" when I wake up tomorrow, but I’m really hoping for a non-event (like our snow forecasts usually are). We shall see. If we do get more white stuff, I’m hoping that Sunday’s expected rain and high of 42 will take care of it.
I took advantage of the “mostly melted” surfaces today and ran a couple of errands. It was my first time in the car since Christmas Day! I had to push some remaining snow off of her, but it slid to the ground pretty easily. There was no ice to scrape, because I waited until almost noon to leave (after the car had been in direct sunlight for a couple of hours). Woo hoo! I went to CVS to pick up a prescription (and was part of a BMW > Mercedes > BMW > Mercedes chain at the drive-thru), then went to the grocery store. Among other things I was able to find shredded pepper jack, which made me very happy! I recently started making chaffles (waffles made with just cheese and eggs), and at first I bought cheddar jack: very yummy, but I kept thinking that pepper jack might be even yummier. The store I usually order my groceries from doesn’t carry shredded pepper jack online, which was one reason I figured I’d shop in person for a change. I will try the new cheese tomorrow night.
Sometimes it really is the little things…
Nope, MD.
I was born in CA, though (at CHOMP; we lived in Carmel).
Well, that’s a bit…immature? Unprofessional? Bitchy? Pick a word, any word!
Toby has been returned to his mom. FCD has been evaluated and his PT starts on Moanday. We ate leftover cabbage rolls for supper. Chillage shall ensue.
Evil weather guesser is guessing 2-4" of evil white stuff overnight here. I guess I’ll find out in the morning if Daughter gets a snow day or not. I kinda hope she does. Tomorrow is SIL’s and my mother’s B-day - he’s 33, she’s 88. No partying planned.
Not a lot of productive today. Did accomplish nail prettification and picking up a couple of minor household items. Now indulging in carne asada nachos. Any other food or activities TBD.
Evening all. Temperature is down to 29F here but fortunately the rain has moved on before it could turn freezing (red got the worst of it this time, I think). Had a stray thought while looking at an avatar here on the Straight Dope, and spent much of the afternoon reading “Buck Godot–Zap Gun for Hire” from the web archives (It’s a SF web cartoon that ran back around 2007-2009, and was actually pretty well done, IMHO). Have now finished dinner and will replax with readin’ and Tv’in’.
Oopsie, chaffles sound delicious.
flyboy, Oopsie, FCM, hope the weather improves in your necks of the planet. Suppose to get back around 50F tomorrow here in N. Ali-bama.
Everybody have a good Thorsday evening now. boo fae, glad you are back home and think it is wise to stay at the airport instead of driving; I used to have to fly 13 hours to Dubai and then drive 70 miles to my hotel in Abu Dhabi…not a good thing.
Hey, so, guess who has COVID? 'Beamer. One day back at school before we pulled him and he still got it. Stoopit Omicron. I’m trying to tell myself that my throat tickle is absolutely allergies, while I pop zinc melts. I am so frustrated. This whole thing is so frustrating. < kicks rocks >
Dinner was some shredded wheat (with 1% milk), which I bought today and hadn’t had since before surgery. I also bought Cheerios, my favorite cereal, which I also hadn’t had since before surgery. It was tough to choose between them, but I figured I’d go for the slightly higher fiber/protein. I might have Cheerios for lunch tomorrow.
It’s 10pm — aka bedtime. The past few nights I felt like falling asleep to episodes of The Big Bang Theory or The West Wing on my iPad, but tonight I’m looking forward to getting back to reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: I might finish it tonight, in which case I will start Prisoner of Azkaban.
They’re the best thing I’ve gotten from the bariatric support groups so far — other than, you know, support. I’ve never been an egg person, but they’re high in protein and the right serving size for how much I can eat at a time right now and I figured it was worth a real go at starting to eat them. At first I just bought some egg bites, which were fine, but when I learned about chaffles I knew that would be the egg-related-thing for me: about a week ago I bought a mini waffle maker (1 egg + 1/4 cup shredded cheese = 2 chaffles), and I’ve had chaffles for dinner most nights. Simple, quick, and yummy.
So, yeah, I was 50 years old when I bought eggs for the first time, and when I cracked my first egg.
Near as I can tell, we got an inch or two of snow overnight, but whatever hit the driveway melted. The county schools are starting 2 hours late - waiting to hear from my daughter about when/if I need to fetch Toby. I soooooo wanted to sleep in, but I’ve tended to the critters and I’m breakfasting and caffeinating. I’ll message her shortly to see what the deal is.
Speaking of fiber, I need to get some into FCD. He’s on some opioids and they tend to, shall we say, bind one. It’s bad enough dealing with the knee pain, but we don’t want to add his gut, etc, to the mix. Time to check the medicine cabinet.
If I don’t have Toby, or after I return him, I want to run to the Food Lion in Charlotte Hall. The one in Leonardtown didn’t have any Diet Coke yesterday. In fact, they didn’t have much of anything - the shelves were picked bare in some sections - like frozen spuds! I’m guessing it’s mainly because deliveries couldn’t get thru because of the snow. Anyway, I need to refill my Diet Coke stash. So that’s the big plan. Beyond that, we’ll just see what develops.
Happy Firday!
PS - note to self - call maternal unit and wish her a happy 88th! My mom is an old lady!!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin outside and clear with a predicted high of 54 and N.O.S. for the day. I shall betake myself over to the church house to deal with some church janitor JW and other stuff this mornin’. Two more weeks and I am no longer church janitor Junior Warden! I shall also, like MOOOOOOM make a stop by the Food Kitty to stock up on Diet Coke. We actually prefer Diet Poopsie, but, since we’re cheap, we will make do with what’s on sale. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.
Sunny and Beamer hope the both of you are better soonest.
Happy Birthday to FCMom and FC Son-In-Law!
Oopsie I shall have to try chaffles.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate attire for bein’ amongst the public. Such a bother!
It’s a soggy 45 degrees here. Various counties around me are experiencing flooding due to mountain snowmelt and non-stop rain filling the rivers to over flood stage. There are also mudslides that have shut down a few roads. Most of these things are happening north and south of me, so I’m not really affected.
The major mountain passes (well really all of them) are closed until Sunday due to horrific conditions up there, so the west side of the state is essentially cut off from the east side of the state.
Hoo boy! I am so glad it’s Friday and I only have to work eight hours today. It’s been one heck of a week. Problems, problems, problems, but I’ve solved most of them. I can’t do anything about a couple of them because the people I need to talk to are out of the office until next week. None of the problems are of my doing, but it’s my job to fix stuff, and fix it I shall.
Sunny and Beamer I hope you are feeling better very, very soon.
I need to get to the birdseed store, Mud Bay, and the grocery store. I am out of suet, Polar is out of doggy ice cream, and I’m out of Diet Coke. These last several months, Diet Coke has often been difficult to find. Poopise is flat and caffeine-free diet coke is also strangely flat. I also need a couple of other bits and bobs from the grocery store, such as chicken to cook up for Polar.
Morning all. Pills taken and newspaper retrieved, it’s currently 20F outside and will just get above freezing today (the 50F weather starts tomorrow), so another good day to spend indoors. Indoor soccer starts up again tomorrow, so that will take me from 9am-5pm, with a break for food.
