New Year snow in the MMP

WGN Weather app must be busticated. It claims the temperature is minus 4 with windchills down to 25 below.

Moooooom, you may also want to pick up some probiotics for FCD (Aldi has them at a good price). Happy birthday to FCGrandmom and FCSIL.

I woke up to a balmy 14F this morning. Brrrrrrrrrrr! Nelson is beginning to get the hang of doing his business pronto when we go out into the snow now (he forgets from one year to the next how cold snow is). I’m going nowhere today because my street isn’t plowed yet. Tomorrow, it’s supposed to be above freezing, so I’ll venture out for groceries. I rescheduled my car appointment for next weekend.

Weather this cold sucks in another way, given that many homes (especially apartments) don’t have a heat source that is efficient in temps much below freezing. I’ll bake some muffins or something today to warm up the place a little (and have some yummy muffins). I’ll be glad when this crap is melted in a couple of days.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Toby just snarfed down 4oz of formula. I’ve got him in his swing, hoping he’ll sleep. Apparently his lack of nappage yesterday made for a bad night - over-tired…

Roxy is with her mom at school - she was a tad feverish when SIL went to drop her off, but daughter said she’s not acting sick. So lots of excitement, grandkid-wise.

Too dark to see much, but I can tell the snow is all like, ‘I’m melting! I’m mellllllltiiiiing! What a world! What a world!’

I’ve only read through post #42 so will go back. Hugs, scritches and all that.

My house was photographed yesterday and an agent from the group my agent represents came by and FaceTimed it with a cash buyer. I already have a full price cash offer before it even hits the MLS. There is another cash buyer coming today at noon. The listing won’t even hit before next week.

On Christmas Day I went across the street for Xmas dinner. Some new snowbird neighbors that had just arrived were there. Two days later the new guy got sick with Covid so I was sweating that. We all were. On this past Monday I went to my local Dr. about my ankle and they wouldn’t let me into the building without a Covid test. I am negative.

The sick guy is in ICU in critical condition and severe lung damage. His wife is across the street, sick, alone with a chocolate lab. I sent a box of pee pads so she can at least spread them on the porch. I feel horrible for them as they had to stop overnight on the way from Maryland and that’s probably where they caught it. So, I think I dodged a bullet.

My ankle is messed up and because I couldn’t rest it due to packing up my house I am thinking it’s a torn ligament or tendon. After this weekend I will go back and hopefully get an MRI approval. It is very painful. Thank God for the nice neighbor lady that has been walking Buddy and she has him now in her fenced area. I’ll hobble over while the showing is happening today then I don’t expect any more interruptions before Monday. I am going to accept the full price cash offer even though I may be able to get more if I wait until it’s public. Now I just have to find and buy a house. Looking in Ocala again. Also upped my budget to help that process. Worst case will have to be a short term rental until I find a house.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe.

Holy handbaskets, we got, like, at least a foot of snow. But I have food, and cat litter, and toilet paper, so :notes: I will survive.

I don’t even know how or where to say this, but you guys are amazing, so I’ll say it here. My mom’s cancer is no longer curable. They’re considering surgery, but it would lead to significant loss of function and it’s close to the carotid artery so they’re not certain whether it’s an actual option. She would lose her entire hard & soft palate and a large portion of her jaw. They could probably reconstruct it, but there’s about a 10% chance of actually removing it all and it would just come back. It’s very aggressive. So they’ve referred us to an oncologist who can help us understand how palliative chemo would work.

In the meantime, I’m making reservations. We went to a Van Gogh exhibit last weekend that we’d wanted to see. We’re eating all kinds of terrible food. We had a family photo shoot done and will hopefully go golfing next week. I go to her condo every night to hang out and watch TV and chat about nothing at all. Sometimes I bring the kids, but not this week (overlyboy was exposed to COVID, so no way is he going near her). All I can think to do is whatever in the world we were waiting to do until the pandemic ended. We don’t have much time. Probably a few months. Maybe a year.

When we got in the car yesterday, she sat down and said, “So, overly, do you think I can have a glass of wine now?” I told her let’s wait to see what the oncologist says next week, but I highly doubt anyone would blame her.

So sorry to hear this. Many hugs to you and yours!!

Hi, everyone. My sister had total knee replacement surgery Wednesday, and it went well, but… We got home from the hospital yesterday, and she was able to do the prescribed reps of PT exercises. But last night the pain went up to a 9, even though she’s on Percocet (10 mg.). As per a hospital nurse’s recommendation, I gave her one every 3 hours instead of every 4, but the pain’s been steadily 7-9, and there’s no way she can do the exercises today. I have a call in to the doc.

Will catch up on reading later. In the meantime, if anyone has any tips or suggestions, I’d be grateful. Oh, she also has an ice-cooling machine on her leg to keep the knee cold and reduce inflammation.

Everything went reasonably well. At least till the Next Day airs showed up 15min before the package cars were expected to leave. Delays occured.

Butters, glad you have offers. Now rest the ankle a bit.

TVCTPMO really needs to wait until the Mt. Dew kicks in. Issues with my Walmart delivery. Natch, my neighborhood gets delivery from THE worst WM in town. Shopping in person, they’re absolutely my last choice “only if no other workable option exists” location. Not fun getting up, checking my phone, and seeing something about my order being cancelled. Online chat plus phone call seems to have equalled getting back on track, and the delay is still close enough to original delivery window to be OK (I’ll be nice to the driver, not his fault the store screwed up). Don’t worry, I was nice to CS staff, but did make a point of telling both just how bad this location is (I know the phone call was recorded and would be very surprised if chats aren’t logged for potential QA review).

The one (unauthorized) substitution (different flavor of a yogurt, same brand) will be acceptable. I do not typically authorize substitutions at WM simply because they’re normally pretty weird. Also raining again. Yes, I know that’s a lot easier to cope with than snow, and we need it, but some actual sun would be nice as a change of pace.

“Yeah, my notes may look like a schizophrenic cry for help, but they’re effective!”

Overheard from one of my students as they were prepping each other for today’s quiz. Just had to share.

Hugs wordy and wordy mom. I’m very sad for you just having lost your dad. There’s not one thing I can say or do to make it any better just know I and all of us are thinking of you.

Have read but have the memory of a gold fish.

So sorry about your mom Wordy. I say let her have all the wine she wants.

This is the gadget they gave Wifey after her knee replacements, Mom. We didn’t know how expensive they were, sorry. They really work great however. They make some that have a little pump that are way more expensive than this one. Also, my gastro doc says psyllium fiber (Meta-mucil) is the best kind of fiber supplement to take.
Nellie, you didn’t say if your sister has anything like that, but if not, maybe you’ll want to look into it.

Everyone else, stay warm and dry.

Happy Birthday to FCM Mum!

Butters I’m sorry your ankle is messed up and glad that you’ve gotten a good offer on the house so quickly. A rental might not be a bad way to go. The housing market has got to go down again sometime, right? Of course, WTH do I know. I thought we passed the top a while back. Whatever happens, I hope you find something you like.

shoe I’m glad you’re all set for snow-pocalypse. :snowman:

talky I’m so sorry about your mom. I hope you are able to have many good times in the time remaining. Sending hugs to you and your family.

I have joined 'Beamer on the sick train today. Booooo. Thank you all for the well wishes. They help! You are the best invisible internet friends a girl could wish for.

Take care and avoid the plague y’all.

flyboy - Better plan on irking remotely next week. I just saw the alerts on CNN about the closure of the 5 south of Seattle due to flooding. That means it must be really coming down up north where you are.

((((wordy & mom))))

I don’t know a lot about Ocala, but I know in the area near my inlaws, there’s construction like crazy!! That’s on the west side of I-75, south of 200. On the plus side about Ocala, there’s just about anything you’d need in the way of retail and medical services. On the downside - traffic is insane, especially on 200, which is one of the main retail routes. I’m not sure where you’d need to live to have a bit of elbow room - all the developments are laid out for maximum occupancy. Anyway, just my 2¢.

Toby is napping. Daughter will come fetch him within the hour. FCD is napping. I’ve got a hunk of poke loin going the sous vide route. TGIF - I’ve got two days sans babbies so maybe I can get the house in order.

I saw that they a 20-mile stretch of the 5 was closed in Lewis County this morning. I see a report it’s been re-opened. That’s a drive south of Seattle (or Burien, now) so I should be fine.

Weather up here has been fine. It’s 38 right now. Snow is expected from about 6 ayem tomorrow, possibly lasting until noon. Then rain/showers for the next week and a half. The winds are up, and there may be a little flooding by the beach due to the kind tide; but I haven’t gone down there.
