Backing up an episode, was there ever an official question about the route of the plane WRT Sydney->(Seoul)->LA, and the Korean couple?
That was answered by the errand Jin was running for Sun’s father, delivering the watches (if the question existed). It also answers the question about the signifance of the watch Jin and Michael fought over.
No, Jin’s dad wanted him to deliver watches in Australia and L.A. Presumably he delivered the Australian watch, and is still planning on delivering the one in L.A. now that he has nothing to live for but her father’s respect.
Sure, but we don’t need to include any speculation as to the flight’s destination any more. It was Sydney to LA, nothing more, nothing less.
As for the transmissions, Lenny’s friend wasn’t specificly in AUS, just “somewhere in the Pacific.” He ended up in AUS, but the show did not say he was in AUS when he picked up the transmission. If anything, it hinted at it being a somewhat remote posting.
I thought the wife of the friend mentioned going to a carnival in Calgary and using the numbers there - at least that is what it sounded like to me. Calgary is in Alberta, and while not really that near the Pacific, certainly is fairly accessible from the west coast of Canada.
Well, that fits with the somewhere Pacific non specific comment.
The main point was that he wasn’t in AUS when he picked up the signal. Where ever he was when he was discharged (I’m assuming a military post) could very easily fit with his going to either Canada or Australia. Or, it could be from listening post to Canada to Austrailia. Lots of possibilities.
In the other thread I wondered about if the “pandora’s Box” had been opened before, if so, how many times? But I don’t know quite what question to make of that.
Yeah, I screwed up saying he picked it up in Australia. Still, I think it’s a valid question. The numbers showed that it’s possible for someone out there to pick up their transmission. It happened twice if you count the CFL’s crew. And if the guy was at a listening station or post or whatever it was, doesn’t that sort of imply a sort of permanent position, where someone else should be now, listening?
Well, remember, most of the time they were listening to static. Under just the right atmospheric conditions radio waves can travel much farther than they usually do. Those two were probably just in the right place at the right time under the right conditions. Or the wrong place/time/conditions depending how you look at it.
It’s also possible some other people under similar fluke conditions picked up the transmission. But if it was the more recent transmission they would have to speak French for it to have any meaning to them. If it was the earlier transmission they probably just figured that it was part of the general weirdness that is number stations.
Warning: Do not play the lottery based on that link.
I originally thought that the ‘listening post’ must be on a remote island or something, but on rewatching the episode I see that that is unlikely. Sam Toomeys’ wife says that he heard the transmission and “a couple of days later we were at a fair in Calgoolie…” which makes it pretty clear that the post is in Oz.
Didn’t Locke say that his mother was really his foster mother?
When he was talking about her believing that a dog was his dead sister.
That would suggest that his dad was “not cool” either in that he never knew him, that he was the cause of Locke and his sister being in foster care, or that he never came to claim them from the state.
Was Locke abused by his parents?
Was his dad simply never in the picture like Claire’s boyfriend?
Was he an alcoholic like Jack’s dad?
Did Locke’s father kill his mother like Sawyer’s dad did?
Did Locke’s father refuse to take him and his sister in, like Walt’s adoptive dad?
A clean list in anticipation of the new episode tonight. I’ve reconsidered question 67. I’ve decided that the episode was pointing strongly to Hurley having been commited, so back to the original wording it goes. Mad props to NoClueBoy. If I’m wrong, it’s all his fault.

I read an interview of the cast during this long break, and when they got to Hurley, he as much as says we will see a better explanation of his being in the loony bin. I can’t remember the exact wording, but he said something like ‘Obviously, he wasn’t there just for grins,’ or sthe essence thereof. It was in a magazine at a beauty salon, sorry I don’t remember which rag it was…
Looks like 64 and especially 68 have been answered. I think we can remove 52, too, since they talked about the “freaky paste” that made him see things.
Why was Locke in a foster home? ANSWER: Mom was in and out of mental institutions because of her schitzophrenia. Dad’s situation was murkier. According to him, he was unaware of little John. But he may just have been a lying jerk.
In what way is Locke’s dad not a good man? ANSWER: He conned his son out of a kidney for God’s sake!
As to #52, we already know that Boone thinks the freaky paste cause the visions. I’m not sure this counts as confirmation.
Didn’t Jack say Adam and Eve’s skeletons were forty years dead? That definitely counts them out of Danielle’s group, but I don’t know about the Nigerian drug runners.
Since we seem to be unclear about what the voice on the other end of the radio said about the survivors of filght 815, should we make that a question? I’m off to search for a script or something from last night, but one of you guys can probably find it faster.
