Official "Lost" Questions Thread

Or at least, so we’ve been told by the CFL, who may or may not have ulterior motives.

Everybody book mark this thread! Remember where you parked.

We will definitely benefit from the new Cafe rules about thread ressurection.

No, no, no.

I’ll start a new thread next season starting with the new list. Assuming I can recover from this thread.

Why did they want Walt?
Hurley gave him the thumbs up, and Hurley’s involved with the numbers…oh yes, and the comic with the polar bear .

What happened to Alex?
Could she be the blonde who threw the petrol onto the raft?

What’s the deal with the Black and White?
If you watch the last episode again you’ll see that Jack is becoming Black, while Locke is White. At least, that’s the colour of their hair and outfits.

I take issue with some of the remaining and renumbered questions. Are they still up for debate, or do you prefer to drop it at this point?

Oh, this stuff is still up for debate. The new list may certainly get revised before next season begins. I also expect the DVD release to spark some discussion.

[Oslo puts on his asbestos underwear.]

It encountered severe turbulence - people bouncing off the ceiling and all - and the tail broke off. Answered.

I have never liked this one. It’s just… silly. Why would TCM kill a pig? What evidence is there that Locke didn’t? What possible relevance does it have to advancing the plot? I don’t think there will be any reference to the event in the future, so it is Unanswerable and Unimportant. Remove it.

Betcha we find out within 6 months…

First part: of course he did - there is no reason to think otherwise. Second part: maybe not an answer, but speculation on my part: because he did not pose a threat to the island that would require a response by TCM/SS(Security System).

Is there any reason to think she is dead? Up until a few days before the crash, she was alive. Remove it.
(IMHO, Sayid’s earlier statement that he killed her was a continuity problem or something. It certainly is not supported by Ep. 1.21.)

There is no reason to think he was not. The content of his vision is unimportant - it got the desired results: the baby being raised by Claire. Remove it.

Wasn’t there a later exchange between Boone and Locke where Boone asked if some goop Locke was messing with was same stuff he drugged him with? Answered.

Ignore me if this has been posted already: Dynamite was invented in 1866. Were there really sailing ships carrying manicled slaves after that?

Yes – in the episode “Deus Ex Machina” I believe (the one when they found the Beechcraft). Boone says something about “that paste that made me see my sister get killed”. So it’s been definitely implied that the goop Locke applied to the wound was what sent Boone into his hallucination / Vision Quest.

Mentioned, yes. Discussed? No. Not like we normally discect minutae around here anyways.

How about: What name was Ford/Sawyer traveling under?

We’ve seen that his real name is Ford but he uses the name Sawyer. He was arrested and deported from Australia by authorities who knew his real name. So you’d normally assume he was deported under his real name. But he’s been telling everyone on the island his name is Sawyer. So why didn’t Hurley notice this discrepancy when he was checking all the names on the passenger list?

I’d also say that #36 (Why did the ocean level suddenly rise and flood the beach they were living on?) has been at least partially answered. The producers have said that the cost of maintaining the crash site was prohibitive so they wrote that the water rose and covered the plane.

Yes, but we’ve been waiting to see if they come up with an explanation within the show.

This one’s been bugging me ever since Jin beat up Michael. If Jin was planning on escaping Sun’s father, why get so upset when Michael had it? Where did Michael find the watch? I thought he got it off a dead guy, but he must have found Jin’s luggage or something? I’m guessing that watch was supposed to somehow cement a mafia relationship between Sun’s dad and some mafia group in California?

That white guy who confronted Jin in the airport lavatory, was he on the plane watching Jin & Sun? Is he dead? Or still alive, and hanging out with Rose’s husband?

Oooh…good question! If he’s on the plane, we have all sorts of new conflicts when the groups get together.

I see some interesting points have been raised. It’s been a busy weekend here at Casa Trion, so I’ll take a whack at this stuff later on. A couple of quick points while I’m here though.

First regarding the tides. I do know the real world answer and I was willing to write that one off. I figure the writers deserve a little leeway when dealing with these kinds of dificulties. But then I found out that there were mentioning the weird tides in the online diary. I’m thinking that if they mentioned it in continuity in two seperate places, there may be an in show answer coming. I’ll keep it in for now. But remember, we are now at the point where all questions are up for grabs. If you think something should be crossed off or is irrelevant, feel free to mention it.

As far as the dynamite on the slave ship is concerned, it thought that was covered in one of the main threads. I’ll try to dig it up when I have more time. This one may also be more of a mistake on the writer’s part rather than a real mystery to which we will discover an answer. Let me think about it.

See ya later.

This is an unofficial Lost thread. The official ones are here.

IIRC, Michael said he found the watch on the beach. That’s why he just took it rather than trying to return it to whomever it belonged to - he figured it belonged to someone who died.
But I also wonder why Jin was so intent on still delivering the watches if he was going to run off and escape from Sun’s father. Why were they headong to LA from Australia in the first place? Had they been to Australia for some other reason?
The guy who confronted Jin in the bathroom: I figured he was just watching over Jin at the airport and making sure they got on the plane. I think Sun’s father must have suspected something, and sent someone (one of his henchman in Australia?) to keep an eye on the two of them to make sure they got on the right plane. I don’t think he was on the plane, too.

I posted this in the “Exodus” thread, but I’ll put it here, too. The pilot episode is on tonight (10:00 pm Eastern). I don’t know if ABC is rerunning all the episodes through the summer, but it’ll be fun to watch some of the early ones again. Maybe we’ll get some answers that we didn’t know about. You know, that whole hindsight thing.

Time to do a little clean up.

First of all, Oslo, there’s no need to put on your asbestos underwear. This isn’t the Pit so no one will be flaming you, although we may point and laugh.

That’s one theory, sure. Probably even the most realistic one. But as I don’t think we can consider it deffinitely answered yet. Even in the show there’s the theory that they were brought to the island. Until we know more we don’t really know if it was a freak accident or something else.

Having watched the scene a couple of times I’m fairly certain the TCM did kill the boar. Whether it’s important or not remains to be seen - especially if people discover Locke lied about the whole incident.

I’m thinking we don’t know the full story here. It’s certainly possible that the security agents from the Airport in the finale checked out Sayid’s story, found out that Nadia was killed in retaliation for his work with the CIA and passed this info along to Sayid. And even if it was an error by the writers, they still have a chance to fix it.

Considering the psychic’s insistance on Claire heeding his warning, I for one would really like to know what he saw. And, yes there is the possibility that he was scamming Claire as we discussed in the main thread for that episode. I don’t think that one’s too likely though.

Now, here you’re probably right. OK. Answered.

From Baldwin:

I just checked the main thread on this. Actually, Alfred Nobel only invented the detanator for dynamite in 1866. See Plynck’s post #192.

Regarding the guy threatening Sun in the airport, I got the impression that he didn’t get on the plane. In any event, it certainly underscores the mystery of question 37. If the goon shows up next season as a Back Of Plane survivor, We can revisit the question then.

Finally, about the name Sawyer was travelling under. I’m not getting the feeling that this was much of a mystery. It certainly wasn’t presented as a big deal and I’m guessing that the Australian authorities just tossed Sawyer on the quickest plane to get him out of the country without bothering to go through all the required paperwork to get him a passport in his real name. If you guys think it’s a bigger deal than I do, let me know and I’ll put it on the list.

Phew. I think that’s everything.

Okay, I’ve asked in the other thread and I guess I’ll try asking again right here.

Is there ANY reason to believe that the Black Rock was a slave ship and not a ship loaded with convicts bound for Australia?
