Official "Lost" Questions Thread

First of all - Hustle and Merijeek. Take it out of thread, preferably to e-mail. I don’t want the thread shut down because people are talking about illegal file sharing. Cut it out.

Nah. If someone is revived durring CPR, I’m not inclined to call it a mystery. I am willing to entertain questions about Charlie’s memory loss though. In the other thread somebody mentioned the odd wound on his neck that Jack was looking at. Makes me think that he was possibly injected with something - but now I’ve entered the Speculation Zone.

I dunno. Do we have reason to believe she’s lieing (well, more than usual) about this particular fact. Or is this more speculation?

If there are other people involved then they are inclued in #36 - Who are the “others”? Right now things are too vague for me try to pin them down further.

How about, Is there any significance to the fact that Sawyer keeps making up nicknames for people? Do the nicknames have a deeper meaning (Calling Walt “Tattoo” brings in a Fantasy Island reference, calling Hurley “Stay-puft” brings in a Ghostbusters reference, calling Kate “Freckles” makes no sense because she doesn’t have freckles…)? Does anybody have a list of the names he’s made up for people?

Is not “personality trait” enough of an answer. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some deeper meaning in the names in the same sense that there’s some meaning in the fact that Sawyer was reading Watership Down, but I don’t want to get into that in this thread.

No new episodes until the New Year. Bummer. Oh well, at least I get a little break.

A few thoughts on some questions now that we have a break.

At what point will we remove #13 and #21? No disrespect to whoever proposed them, the further along we get the more it seems that these aren’t questions. It seems Locke was just a wannabe survivalist who over did it (also convenient for the characters to have weapons). Of course, one could say my question #39 was a throwaway line the same as the one that suggested #13. #21 seems more and more like he was just being a pervert. Reasonable minds can disagree, of course.

Does #15 include the possibility that Jack KNEW his father wouldn’t be there when he opened it?

#17 still intrigues me, but I am not sure if it was supposed to be a mystery. I always thought the episode suggested he met the “island” and then was inspired to meet his destiny and find the boar himself. Of course, I think there is PLENTY of evidence to suggest otherwise. The way he reacted to Jack’s congrats supports #17. But the fact that Locke has killed many more boars since then speaks to his ability to hunt. This one is a grey area for me. I’m not sure we are supposed to wonder about this, but there is too much ambiguity to dismiss the possibility.

#42 and #43 are virtually the same question, yes?

28) Why was Michael so estranged from Walt for so long. Is it related to Walt and his mother moving around so much?

Do we have an answer to this, in the naming of walt’s Other Dad, Brian? Michael and Walt’s mom split up, she married Brian, hasta la vista, Mike.

I did say back in Post 75 that I’m giving the show until the original 13 episode order to address these tentative questions after which I’ll reevaluate them. It was easy to miss though.

Sure.

Maybe. Maybe even “probably”. But I am always aware that the writers are trying to mislead us.

I did miss that.

Sounds good, all around then.

Better to leave it on than take it off prematurely.

Maybe. Right now I’m betting there’s a more complete story to be told. If I’m wrong I shall defer to your superior cognative abilaties.

What is in Kate’s bank heist envelope?

What does Beyond the Sea have to do with higher math?

It’s a toy DC-3 (airplane) that supposedly belonged to the man she loved, and killed.

What’s the significance of the toy airplane?

Ah, I missed the split second with that, all I saw was a hand with the toy. Thanks! Still, why was it in a bank vault? What signicance does it have in regards to her love? Does ‘the man I loved (and killed)’ have to be a lover, or could it be her father?

Thanks guys. You have indeed pointed out the major questions for this episode:

  1. What is the significance of Kate’s toy plane?
  2. Who is the man that Kate loved and/or killed?
  3. What is the significance of the song “La Mer”?

I am also considering question 10 to be partially answered:

  1. What did Kate do to put her in trouble with the law and make her so eager to run from everything?
Partial Answer: She was the mastermind behind a bank heist. More will be added as her rap sheet fills out.

And as a partial addendum, does Kate even know the significance of the plane, or is it just a simple toy to her with memories attached?
Is there something in it? Microfilm? (I’m showing my age) Okay, a computer chip?

Good point. I was half expecting the final shot in the show to be Kate opening up the plane.

Annyway, I’ll ammend the question thus:

  1. What is the significance of Kate’s toy plane? (Does Kate even know herself?)

Another question: Why did the compass not point to magnetic north?

Did anyone else notice the toy airplane figured in Claire’s nightmare. It was hanging like a mobile in the baby crib filled with blood. I think this was before Kate retrieved the envelope.

Fwah! Due to an evening spent in the ER, I have missed the episode. (Everyone is OK, thanks.)

Feel free to hash out the details. I’ll probably be getting a copy of the show this weekend and I’ll be back then if there’s anything to make an editorial decision on. Until then I’m avoiding the “Lost” threads. Try to carry on without me.

Bummer. Glad everyone’s ok. You’ll need to fill us in on what happened.
Another possible question: Does the Island now own Boone as it does Locke? Remember that Locke said, “Why did it show you that?” almost as tho to himself when Boone revealed the death vision.

Curiouser and curiouser…

Is this a new question (or even a good question): Have all appearances of the TCM been hallucinations?

Why are there no trails left by the TCM? The jungle should look like a runaway bulldozer went through…
