Morning all. Up early, did the Sunday NY Times run and have broken my fast, so some modest accomplishments. Cloudy and 70F heading to 82F. Gym and watching tackleball will be my main occupations today.
Did make an appointment for tomorrow at WalGreen’s for the flu and Covid booster shots, so have that to look forward too (thanks to Oopsie for reminding me). Probably will get them both in the same arm, as I’ve done before.
JtC, thank for the update on Jolene.
Funny, I’m usually up until after 11pm most days, this after a working life where I often was asleep around 9pm.
{{{FCM}}}, hope you are feeling better now. Not fun when your innards go for full-blown revolution and try to throw everything out. Take it easy today.
And off to enjoy the rest of Sunday. Take care all.
I so rarely make beef dishes at home that there are no bones to save there. But iffen I did…
Hope that you’re feeling better soonest Mooooooom.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. Not a whole lot shaking today, but I need to call my dad.
Sis in Houston called last night. She wanted me to check out positions at BIL’s new workplace. The positions listed aren’t the ones she told me about and are ones that I can no longer physically handle. Otherwise, it looks like a good place to work. If indeed, there are the positions open that he described, I might could wind up moving to Texas earlier than originally planned.
I did finish up a couple of cards last evening. I’ve been endeavoring to use some of my tools that I haven’t used for a bit and use up odds and ends of paper and these fit the bill.
The yogurt I have is probably too sweet/processed/whatever. I may try some dry toast.
MIL got up for a very short time then went back to bed. To avoid graphic TMI, let me just say that her gastrointestinal tract has been inoperative for at least a week and she refuses to follow the nurse’s advice. Her regular nurse will be here tomorrow - I hope she reads her the riot act. I suspect a big part of the problem is how little she drinks. But I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV…
I should probably exchange my robe for real clothes, I suppose. But that would require effort. Must consider my options.

Morning, all! It’s currently 67°F and mostly cloudy, with a light breeze. Windows are open. The expected high is 83, but if it stays overcast I might not have to turn the a/c* back on later. Tomorrow should be similarly cloudy, but with a forecasted high of only 77. It’s supposed to rain Tuesday through Saturday, so I’ll appreciate the decent-enough weather while I can.
*I just went back and forth several times about writing “a/c” vs “AC.” I would never write out “air/conditioning,” but “AC” just looks wrong! Somehow I picked up “a/c” as the abbreviation.
FCM, I hope your tummy stays settled!!
I’m going to skip this afternoon’s pipe organ + trumpet concert: I started building Lego C-3PO yesterday, and after lunch I’ll want to work on him a little more. I’d kinda forgotten how much I enjoy sitting at the kitchen table with a Lego set in front of me and West Wing episodes on the TV. (It’s a small house: I can easily see the living room/TV from the eat-in kitchen area.) C-3PO only has 11 bags and yesterday I got through the first 4, so I might actually finish him today. The message board may take longer, just because I’ll have to assemble each letter. It will say “Everything Is Awesome” until I think of something better.
I’m looking forward to lunch: when I went to the grocery store on the way home from the gym yesterday, I picked up some pre-made chicken salad sliders and chicken caesar pinwheels from the deli. And I saw really small cups of potato and macaroni salad ($1/ea) for the first time, so I got a couple of those. I hardly ever have potato/macaroni salad anymore, because I can only eat a small amount and usually just want a taste, so I’m kind of psyched about the little cups! I haven’t decided whether to have the sliders or the pinwheels first, but either one plus a little bit of macaroni salad and some chips is going to be yummy.
I’m also looking forward to not having to set an alarm when I go to bed tonight. So far I don’t feel like I’m on vacation yet, but I think that’ll set in tomorrow.
My amusement was because only some of them were locked up; seems like that would be an all-or-nothing thing.
LOL! Turns out the groomer can’t come until Sunday (a week from today), so Bailey gets a reprieve this week.
HA.
My work here is done!
How new is BIL’s job? Has he been there long enough to have a good feel for the company/how they treat people?
Those are so cute! I love the clouds in the one on the left, but prefer the sun in the one on the right. Heh.
Sounds like you and MIL need to meet in the middle.
Sorry, I know that’s not an actual option and that you’re both … ah, we’ll go with unwell.
Ohmahgerd, I got an official “not our ..” shoutout in the MMP.
I feel so utterly fancy now.
fans self
One of my favorite parts about moving to Michigan.
I’d guess hawk or other predator.
Isn’t it nifty, though, watching animals - that for who knows how long people have said are just dumb critters - having their whole entire existence, being complex, communicating, with conflicts and negotiations and (sometimes) resolutions being worked out?
Shoot, just feeding my ratties, I can see it play out. The bebehs want in on things, there’s always That Guy who yanks everything for himself, the moms push others away and then gently nudge tiny, bebeh-sized scraps towards their litters … but if you’re not paying close attention, it’s just rodent chaos and a lot of squeaking.
I haven’t seen the final score this morning but when I was channel surfing last night, I came upon this game a short while before halftime and the score was tied 3-3. Then UK hit another field goal and the score was UK 6 GA 3 going into halftime. Not the blowout I was expecting from the #1 ranked team. Then I turned the tv off so as I said, I don’t yet know the final score.
I traded my robe for sweatpants, a t-shirt, and slippers. FCD has gone to the boat to take a few measurements.
MIL went back to bed after being up maybe 15 minutes. I ate a slice of provolone on a tortilla. So, yeah, exciting here.
In my recliner with a real book, not an ebook - can you imagine?? I need to pick up my tablet to look things up rather than just highlighting them
How utterly barbaric!
Can you give her some Dulcolax or MiraLax? The Dulcolax are tablets and can perhaps be given to her with her other medication.
My Mom was 2 months shy of her 41st birthday when she had my baby sister. I’m 14-1/2 yrs older than her.
Yay for new furniture that works better for your family. And double YAY for donating the old couch to a family in need.
Have spent the morning slothing; will go to mass with Hubs at 12:30. Planning to have pork chops, yellow squash sauteed with onions, sweet potato for me, russet potato for Hubs and salad.
Finally texted a friend back who texted 9/4. I apologized for ghosting her but she understood with everything I’ve had going on. Anyway, she’s going to come down from a northern suburb on Wednesday and I’ve been elected to organize a group to meet for lunch since most of us live in a SWern suburb so I need to get on that.
oh, forgot to mention that my Spartans did not beat the spread yesterday which opened at 40-1/2 and went up to 48. But I’ll take the win which was a shutout 40-0. Go GREEN!
Yes! I use ham hocks to make stock for split pea soup.
Well, there’s still 20 posts to read but I really need to get ready for church so I’ll sign off for now.
While that doesn’t sound like something I’d like, it certainly is something I’d want to try.
I hadn’t realized you were thinking of moving state. Our ex-housekeeper moved to a small town in TX by the Oklahoma border and is really happy there.
Very cute cards!
It is one of my favorite things to do! Even just watching cats interact is pretty interesting at times.
Speaking of cats, Jolene is much improved. Her belly looks like it is healing nicely and she isn’t acting like she’s in pain. We still gave her another dose of pain meds this morning because she needs to sleep so she can heal. We locked her up in my room again last night but we probably won’t tonight. I’ll be so happy when we are back to what passes as normal for us.
It’s been getting pretty cold at night so my morning forest watching now involves a jacket. The deer were in the gully again this morning. It’s become their regular hang-out, we’ve been seeing them in the evenings too.
awhile back thanks to instacart I realized I hadn’t had macaroni salad in a while and walmarts deli version is pretty good so I ordered the 32 oz thinking I’d have some for a bit …i opened it up to have a bite and ate the whole thing in 20 minutes …
When Thanksgiving rolls around I always love breaking down the turkey carcass into stock. And even the bones from those little grocery store chickens give you something. I need to gio to Hermans(it’s a local meat store) and get more suet to render too. I am out, after a big working several months ago. Makes better pie crust than Crisco.
A reasonably quiet weekend. This past two weeks have been fairly expensive. On top of helping out my kids with their financial woes, we had to make our quarterly tax payments. Seems like all we’ve been doing is writing checks. The (hopefully) last one was to my daughter today so she can retain her tax consultant until her issues are resolved.
Ordered in some Thai food last night and the daughter and we had leftovers for lunch. This restaurant is pretty authentic and some of their dishes are quite spicy. I had forgotten that until I put a forkful of a ground pork dish in my mouth that lit me up.
Did laundry today. Big mistake. Never again on Sunday. People feel free to remove your clothing from a dryer before the clothes are completely dry. I really hate communal laundry facilities. Anyway, lesson learned.
I don’t have much need for stock these days, but I always liked making my own, as it’s so much better and healthier than what one can buy. I make beans & ham hock soup every year, usually with great northerns or other white beans. It’s one of my favorites.
Currently in Newark airport, waiting for our second flight.
I forgot about Sunday football games - it seems about ⅓ of the people are obsessed.
Other than that, the airport seems less busy and relatively quiet. A lot of updates finally got completed and it seems they’ve removed the annoying table devices which were used for ordering food. They’ve been replaced with QR codes which are part of the post-COVID world.
Really looking forward to getting to our final destination for today.
I’ve decided supper will be leftover rotissed chickie in gravy over rice. And maybe peas on the side. Rice is steaming and shortly I’ll make make the (packaged) gravy and warm the chicke in it.
I still feel draggy after last night, but I think a good sleep will help. Mostly I’ve been reading, so a good, lazy day.
