(Old) Find the Good in the MMP!

Mowage is complete, only two bags worth of clippings but I also took down a small (about 4-5’) tree that had been growing on the edge of my fence, so that was a fair bit of exercise. Now to get my swimmin’ trunks on and head over to the gym.

FCM, happy the terlit is performing it’s job now. And you reminded me, I finished the last old paperback I was taking to the gym, so need to browse the shelves for some more stuff I haven’t read in 40 years…

rocky, enjoy the at-home workday.

I didn’t know you had to be certifiable to work there…

Let’s see, this is Wednesday, so Black Swimming trunks (I have three pairs because doesn’t everyone?? ).

Some minor shopping this morning to get things I don’t want Costco quantities of.

Ditched exercise but went for a walk. I saw a corner lot house in the 'hood up for sale. This is a pretty wealthy area, so I was surprised to look it up and see that it was only $600K. For a corner lot and a remodeled interior. The downside is that there is no AC in the place. Also, I’m not in the market.

My daughter reports some progress by the company she hired to sort out her IRS woes. Appointment at the end of the week; here’s hoping.

Sockeye salmon for dinner accompanied by saffron rice. Haven’t had salmon in a long time, so we’re looking forward to it.

I sort-of-watched the debate, just for general awareness – and so I’d already be in the loop if anything made the news/was all over Facebook this morning. I’m seeing lots of jokes about pets fleeing Springfield, OH, and it’s been very helpful to already have that context!!

I dropped my car off at the shop at a little after 8am (their shuttle took me home): the place just called to say that it should be ready any time after 2:30. It was due for an oil change and brake fluid service, and it also needs a realignment because I whacked a big curb a few weeks ago. I’ll call them in a couple hours and request a shuttle pickup. My car has been nagging me about the brake fluid service since last month (the service light went from amber to red, so I’d know it meant business); it’ll be nice to have that cleared and know that I’m on top of all maintenance once again.

Other than bringing the car home, I have no plans after work. Yay!

Nice to see ya!

I’m so glad no one was hurt!

Ugh, I’m sorry. :people_hugging:

LOL!

I use my Kindle pretty exclusively, but I have one with page turn buttons: I can hold it and turn the pages (forward or back) with one hand. Every now and then I think about upgrading, but none of the new models has buttons and I think having to tap/swipe would drive me mad. But just the other week I learned that there are devices that will tap reader/tablet screens via remote control!

I had a sticker on the shock of my Enduro that said FLEASWTRACENPAC (via LT. Dad).

P-3? S-3? SH-60?

He wasn’t flying then (except privately). He actually stopped flying after he earned his commission. I think his last deployment was as a Communications officer. That was on CLG-5 USS Oklahoma City, which traded flagship duties with Providence (CLG-6). Closing in on 20 years in the Navy, and having a family, he transferred to the Fleet ASW Training Center Pacific. I believe he was an instructor.

I just checked my USPS Informed Delivery. I’m receiving a certain piece of mail today from United Healthcare Dual Complete… addressed to someone I don’t know and haven’t heard of. The other day, I wrote RETURN TO SENDER. NOT AT THIS ADDRESS. on the envelope and put it into the mailbox. I guess I’ll put it in again when it comes.

This is why the gawds gave us trash bins.

I got up this morning and mopped the kitchen floor. Hubs had wiped it up, but he missed spots. I don’t blame him, he hadn’t had his coffee yet. I sure do hope Jolene gets bored with ice cubes soon.

I’ve ordered a dozen cake pops for Hubs to take to the vet tomorrow morning. We are big fans of bribing the techs into spoiling our pets during something like this.

We bought a bag of baby carrots today, there’s always someone in the office who can’t have cake.

We went to the DMV and got all the paperwork we needed, but didn’t have my insurance card. And their computers were down. We took every thing home and got my insurance card and elarned that there was only one policy for both cars so we actually had everything we needed already.

Off we went to Lowes and got a battery operated compressor because we don’t have a Discount Tire anywhere close. Plus, he’s got that trailer and mower, I’m sure we will use it. I didn’t ask what he did with the plug-in compressor he already has, I couldn’t see the point.

We couldn’t find the first gym on my list so we went to the big one by the park and looked around. Gym membership is free with my medicare supplied Silver Sneakers card and the aquatic exercise classes are two bucks each and are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. (there is no charge for using the pool on your own) Today the instructor had to take her mother to a doctor appointment, so she will be holding a make-up class tomorrow and I am planning on attending.

They had a deal where you pay 20 bucks for a stamp card and after ten stamps, you get a free class. I bought one. Not so much for the chance to get a free class, but because now I have to go and ten classes is enough to get me into the habit.

@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat do women wear bathing caps nowadays? I don’t have one and honestly don’t have any idea where to get one on short notice.

We went to Capt D’s for lunch, lobsta bites and crab cakes. Yum. After that we went back to the DMV and waited while they played catch-up and got our new plates. We had to pay the regular price for them this year to establish residency, but next year we will be eligible for disabled vet plates - 15 bucks per car per decade.

While we were going back to the DMV, I noticed what appeared to be the back of a bakery so after we were done we went back around and looked for it. No bread unless you count pepperoni rolls or cheese rolls. Hubs got a couple of pieces of potato and peanut butter pinwheels and I got a cannoli and and a piece of baklava. I also got a couple of cheese rolls for lunch tomorrow. I’ll bet they will be pretty good with some potted chicken.

Hubs put the new plates on our cars and now they have to be inspected. I think that’s kinda backwards, Ida figured they’d want to know our cars were road worthy before giving up plates for them, but what do I know?

And they thought you would never make anything of yourself, LOL!!!

I think you should call in sick. You don’t want to spread it around the school, plus a day of rest will help you to recover.

FIL lived with us for less than a year back in 2018 before moving into a nursing home and dying shortly thereafter. Today we got an advertisement for Miracle Ear. Was it for the deaf old guy in the other room who actually wears hearing aids? Nope. Was it for the one with perfect hearing? Nope. It was for his father and hadn’t been forwarded, it had this address on it.

I’ve frequently found myself wishing that Ctrl-F worked on physical books.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and got them stowed. Then, OYKW decided he really wanted some fried chikin from the hog trough GC instead of the dawgs he had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for, so off we went whilst there was a lull in the rain. Then ‘twas home for large nappage which was followed by day drinkin’. As I post ‘tis pourin’ rain out and looks like it will continue for a while. Glad to be inside and dry I am. Up soon will be Netflix and chill. I am still stuffded, so possibly no popcorn this evenin’.

When I’ve written “return to sender” on something that looks important and it returns to me, I put it in a different envelope addressed to the sender with a note saying they’re not at that address and I’ll dispose of subsequent mail. This has worked pretty well.

Way back when, we started getting State Farm insurance paperwork for someone who had never lived at our address, but had the same first initial and last name as Hubs. We wrote “does not live here” on it and sent it back. We got another SF envelope addressed to the same name and I took the time to call the 800 number and tell them that not-Hubs didn’t live here.

We got another envelope that looked like a shut off notice and illegally opened it to find the insurance agent and called them with the policy number and told them that the reason they hadn’t been getting paid was because everything was going to the wrong address.

A few months later, an unknown person knocked on our door and low and behold, it was not-Hubs asking about us getting his bills. It seems as though he lived the next town over and had the same street number and insurance company as we did at that time.

He thought that he had set his billing up for direct deposit and wasn’t expecting bills so didn’t look for them. He got hit by an uninsured driver and then learned that he also didn’t have insurance.

We wrote our statement down for him and never heard anything else. I hope he got satisfaction.

I haven’t seen a bathing cap since the late 70s when my grand mother wore one. I fact I hadn’t seen one before that either. I was all of about 8 at the time.

I trust this is a rechargeable battery situation? Is he a Makita, DeWalt, or Milwaukee guy? Ima guess DeWalt.

Fairly productive day. I knocked out a prototype of a kitchen step stool for a friend’s wife (she’s short and can’t reach the top cabinets). I’ll send him pics. I think it’s a clever design. The geometry was difficult, folding and needs to fit into a very small space, but still be useful Then see if he wants me to build a nice one.

@Bob_Blaylock is a devout DeWalt guy. He’ll tolerate Milwaukee, but if I remember correctly, he dislikes Makita and has nothing but contempt for Ryobi.

One project today is mining out the second bedroom we use for storage (semi-affectionately known as the Room of Doom), but my lower back is only letting me work in short bursts, which is slowing me right down. Yes, I do have anti-inflammatories on board.

I know swimming caps can be bought because Roxy and Tobias have them. Knowing Daughter, I’m guessing Da Jungle.

I ran to Food Lion for a rotissed chicked so that was thd basis for supper. The rest of thd bird will become chickie salad tomorrow. Dishwasher is washing. Chillage is underway.

Afternoon all. Got my 1.5 miles of swimming in, might as well get it done now since the pool will be closed all next week while they resurface the walk-space around it. Will cook up a Chee-burger here in a bit for dinner and the rest of the evening will be given over to sloth. Tomorrow will be the big laundry day, at least three loads and maybe 4. Rain is in the forecast for the next three days, so may not get much soccer in. Temperature is 85F but with all the clouds it doesn’t feel all that bad.

Cookie, enjoy dinner and hope things work out for daughter.

shady, I like cinnamon rolls just fine and bacon is one of my favorite food groups, but together…I am skeptical.

Oopsie, my next car service will probably be in November just before heading to Brother’s for Thanksgiving, may need to get new tires at that time, so $$ there.

flyboy, I don’t know if the German language or the US Navy is worse at having descriptions with way to many syllables in them.

I occasionally get mail addressed to a David Hamad in my mailbox, and since I have lived here continiously since 2003 I know there is no one by that name at this address. Since it usually is one mailing per every two months, it mostly ends up shredded.

JtC, sounds like you’re assured of getting top-flight treatment for your felines. And since you mentioned it, my insurance card was out of date yesterday so I just downloaded and printed a new one (good through Thanksgiving). And the gym sounds like a pretty good deal.

To be completely honest, I don’t know, I never paid that much attention. I don’t believe that I have seen any, but just go without and if you need it, I’m sure some of your new friends (that you will acquire tomorrow at class) can tell you.

But did you leave the gun?

OK, need to do a couple things then get the chee-burger cooked and in my belly. See you later tonight all.

Yes, there are caps. They are much cooler than the flowered flights of fancy from last century. And way tighter.

Sporting good stores have them.

Popcorn takes up no belly room at all. Just sayin’

We are hoping to get some rain out of that storm, it is very needed.

That’s about the last time I wore one as well, I really didn’t like them at all. If you watch the ads for health plans that include gym use, they always show a pool full of ft old women (my people) wearing the same rubber flower covered bathing caps your grandmother used to wear.

DingDingDing. Right on one. It works out so that he always has at least one battery charged when he needs to use something. I don’t mind paying good money for good tools but we paid good money for the plug in compressor when he bought it and then we paid more money to have it moved. Oh well, such is life.

I so admire creative people.

If you are on some sort of Medicare advantage plan, you are probably paying too much for your gym. They also “pay” you for doing healthy things with money you can spend on OTC meds or DME.

I am so looking forward to meeting them. My only worry is that most folks my age wear hearing aids and when I looked in at the pool, it was echoing with just one guy swimming laps. When we were leaving, I overheard a couple of men our age talking about missing the aquatic class today so hopefully Hubs will start coming as well.

Nah, we don’t bring violin cases to check out inside pools. Too conspicuous.

Butbutbut…I’m finally old enough to have a flowered cap. We always had to have streamlined caps back then because we were on a swimming team and flowered caps would slow us down.

Here ya go!!

I spent way too much time on the phone with GEICO trying to figure out why I can’t log into my account. The overly enthusiastic guy I was talking to put in a trouble call with their IT folks because the login I’ve been using for years suddenly isn’t working and it won’t let me create a new one because my email address is already associated with an account. Yeah, MY ACCOUNT!! So here’s hoping they can straighten it out. I don’t want to have to change the email I use, dammit!

Other than that, just another evening in paradise…
