I made 4 or 5 important phone calls today. Yuck. Since you mentioned the same thing, I’m thinking that’s probably why I’m feeling kind of out of it right now. I was going to do more work around the house, but I decided that chilling for awhile was a better plan.
Mega-props to Vystar CU - our replacement credit cards were just delivered via FedEx - I had to sign for them! First time they did it that way. Guess that’s what the $25 charge was for.
Anyway, yay! Now to go change the info on ALL of our accounts.
I wasn’t happy with the donor planks for the boat, so I’m gonna re-make them. Had some gooey paint issues. I think I need to thin it out some so the CNC can cut cleanly.
And I have an actual doctor appointment scheduled for Thursday. My first non-emergency doc visit since 2002?
I like the red bean and rice as well. I am not a spice fan, so there is sour cream involved.
Today is my last day of pascal break. Monday and Tuesday are recovery days from the wild church cycle. Yesterday was closer to home. Today I had a doctor appt on the south east side of phila.
Instead of starting with breakfast, i decided to go to old city and wander the streets until I got back to 12th street around 11:30 for lunch. This worked well, I got a bacon cheeseburger at Hard Rock Cafe, read my book, then went to the appointment. Then onto getting my transit card. Very fast and easy!
Got back home at 3pm. 5 hours wandering about old/centre city. Some of my favourite stores have not returned since Covid. I did find some new places.
Out of curiosity, swampbear, how do processions go in your church? No matter what flavour of Orthodox Church I go to, processions are a bit chaotic. We really don’t do them often, mostly Holy Week/pascha, and perhaps when a hierarch visits. One church did have one of those old style kid toy write on things, but the guy who used that was in the military.
Along with a strict order of services, you can count on gritted stage whispers (in various languages) and frantic arm gesticulating before, during, and after a procession.
Today is Earth Day, an all-inclusive holiday. If any of you don’t live on Earth, hello to you, too. You must have really impressive wireless service.
Oh hail(and accompanying thunderstorm). I took out the recycling before that, and had a brief nap. Spot and I had roast beef and Munster sandwiches for lunch.
Sounds like something out of The Flintstones.
Random large wildlife on the track?
“. . . and news reports brought to you here on the sub-etha wave band, broadcasting around the Galaxy around the clock,” squawked a voice, “and we’ll be saying a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere . . . and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys.” -THHGTTG
I saw a post on FB this morning, and Earth Day was mentioned on the morning news. I was like, ‘What? Earth Day isn’t until the 22nd! It’s a couple of weeks away!’
‘Time isn’t holding up.’
What a nice neighbor, I don’t know any of my neighbor’s birthdays. Heck, I don’t know most of their last names.
I do hope you start sounding happier with your job soon.
Good luck to you!
What a lovely surprise! I’ve always recommended that outgoing state workers leave their retirement accounts alone for just that reason.
I also left five thousand in CA almost 30 years ago and it is now paying out at just under two hundred a month for the rest of my life. If I live long enough, it will equal your windfall!
I do hope your new bed will help your back.
Oh good, when you said infusion center I pictured an IV or something like that. Yes, I know that many people have to get shots there due to worries about side effects, but my mind always goes to the IV’s.
The only reason I doubt your memory is because big turtles are heavy! Of course, once you lift the same heavy load a hundred times a week, you do make it start to look easy…
I’ve seen desert turtles with shell domes three and four feet tall, no reason to think that old snapping turtles couldn’t get that big. Most varieties of turtles don’t stop growing until they are killed.
That shows a little progress
Last night we left the windows open for the air. GG must have stayed up all night guarding the house because he sure didn’t want to get up this morning. As he was cuddled up against me and would reach for me when I tried to get up, I also slept late.
Did they actually call you back? I never trust that recording, I always assume that nobody monitored it because they were too busy.
Jolene was very bitey when she moved in and it didn’t help that her favorite playmate had thick enough fur to not know if she was biting or not. She has gotten so much better recently, its like a switch flipped and she figured out that biting meant no skritching or attention.
I certainly do get that. I don’t drop things so much as knock them off the desk while moving my stitching around, but new phones aren’t getting any less expensive these days so its best that we take care of our tech toys.
That has to be such a nightmare for you and your vocation. I do hope you recover quickly and with no bad voice effects.
Go You!!! From what I hear, that’s pretty amazing.
I keep kicking myself over the passport issue. I had all of those documents available when I got my real ID last year and briefly considered getting a passport as well. I didn’t bother because I didn’t plan to travel and now I have to go through all that bother and pay even more money anyhow.
Are you sure she couldn’t have just cut it back and given it more sun? J/k, those poor plants aren’t meant to survive a year, the pots are way too small, the soil is mostly foam pellets and the flowers have been forced.
I used to spend all day long on the phone. I had a wireless headset so I could wander around while talking. Then I retired and now talking on the phone has gotten so much more difficult.
Sympathy to you both.

And I have an actual doctor appointment scheduled for Thursday.
I’m very proud of you. Do you have to have blood work first or is this going to be your intro meeting?

Along with a strict order of services, you can count on gritted stage whispers (in various languages) and frantic arm gesticulating before, during, and after a procession.
That sounds like any formal event being put on by amateurs. Or professionals, LOL!!!
I used to work for the state elections department. During the presidential elections, the background whispers turned into white noise after a while.

Today is Earth Day, an all-inclusive holiday.
Happy earth day to you as well. Today I played in my garden and hubs hung a bee house in the back yard.
I put my gerbera daisies in a bigger pot and they look very happy. Everything I planted last week is doing very well and I just got done buying a bunch of bee colonies from Heifer International. Next I’m going to send money to AZ game department for filling water tanks. I might not live there anymore, but the need is probably greater now than ever.
The tanks are designed to keep wildlife away from areas where people are, but people use them too.
Yesterday Hubs bought me more posy pots so tomorrow we will go and buy some posies to plant in said pots.
@Kitten_Mitten I thought about you while I was looking over my kitchen garden, my radishes have sprouted so I’ll bet the one you planted has already dropped it’s baby leaves.
Please come back. You really are missed and your gentle kindness really does make the world a nicer place.

She was 50. (She was her birth hospital’s New Year Baby.)
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. Then nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. Then sup got fixed and et. Didn’t even leave da cave unless you count the walk all the way down the driveway to the mailbox and back.
Rocker short version of the processional is verger, crucifer, torch bearers, choir, second verger when there is one, lay ministers (chalice servers), gospel bearer, deacon, priest. When the bishop is there, he, our current bishop is a he, brings up the rear. On occasion we also add a thurifer and boat bearer when we want to smoke up the place. They go behind the first verger. Hope this makes some sense.

Are you sure she couldn’t have just cut it back and given it more sun? J/k,
Don’t you start with me. I like poinsettias for about 20 minutes, then I’m over it. Our passports shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve had two diplomatic (black) passports and an official (red) passport in the past, not to mention several tourist passports. It was either renew these or try to get Real IDs, which sounds like a PITA.

FCD has declared Zatarain’s red beans and rice to be really good, especially when prepared with ground sausage.
I used Zatarain’s andouille for mine Sunday and it was decent.

What a nice neighbor, I don’t know any of my neighbor’s birthdays. Heck, I don’t know most of their last names.
This.
Spent the day working on this year’s edition of the family cookbook, watching movies and getting out on the patio in the sun.
Still trying to put together if / how I want to retire. Should I retire on early benefits, I will definitely have to find cheaper housing. If I am able to do SSDI, I will actually have more money available to me than my current take home pay, so I’m hoping for that.

Did they actually call you back?
They did call back. And it was actually a very easy solution to a weird sort of problem. It turns out that since I have two last names that I had created two accounts and everything that I was looking for was in the account that I wasn’t in.

Don’t you start with me.
Hehehe!
You shouldn’t mix poinsettias and cats anyhow. All of mine have lived on the back porch because I liked the color. I never bought one for myself, though and didn’t have any sort of emotional connection with them.
OTOH, I am really sad that we had to leave my lovely 8 year old lavender bush. It would have loved it here and I did love that plant. It was so easy and so pretty and smelled so good. Plus it was always covered with bees and butterflies.

It was either renew these or try to get Real IDs, which sounds like a PITA.
Getting my Real ID was a serious PITA. Getting a new passport because my old was was too expired wouldn’t have been more of a problem, but it was a couple of hundred dollars more and I didn’t think I’d ever need one.

If I am able to do SSDI, I will actually have more money available to me than my current take home pay, so I’m hoping for that.
I want to warn you that getting SSDI is a long and complicated process that often takes a lawyer. I’ve known of people with missing limbs who got denied twice before finally getting a lawyer. It is really not fair, most folks who need SSDI just do not have the resources to not work for years while waiting for approval.

They did call back.
Good and dang about the two last names on file. You’d best get that fixed ASAP, it won’t get easier next month.
Dang about being such a Debbie Downer guys. I’ve just spent so much of my life playing paperwork games that I know how bad things are getting behind the scenes.

That has to be such a nightmare for you and your vocation. I do hope you recover quickly and with no bad voice effects.
Viral laryngitis (which I’m pretty sure this is) is usually pretty transient. I’m already much better, although not nearly 100%. But this is the week for it. Last week was holy week marathon, and next week is a symphony concert. This week is two rehearsals, one of which I skipped, and the other was last night.
Mostly I’m annoyed because I have a day of lessons to make up.
Well, the rain has come and gone, but the soccer fields were closed anyway, so did my exercising at the gym and came home to the usual Mac-n-Cheese for Tuesday. Nothing much planned for the evening, just internetting and reading. 66F now, so the rains have brought cooler weather in.
Couldn’t get a new phone screen protection shield from Verizon, apparently my phone (from 2021) is too out of date for them to keep then in stock, so it is on order from Wal-Mart.
I do not understand my bladder/kidney behavior. Spoilers for those who don’t want to read about…peeing… I’ve been tracking my fluid intake and output for awhile now and plan to discuss it with my Doctor when I have my annual checkup in a couple of weeks. But the number of times I have to go and the amount produced varies so wildly that it makes no sense. For example, here is the last five days, number of urination’s first then total quantity (in milliliters): 18 April–8/2375; 19 April–5/1575; 20 April–10/4250; 21 April–14/5625; today so far: 5/2250. So several ‘average’ days and a couple that are way higher than average. And my fluid intake is about the same for each day (3,000-3,500mls a day). It does puzzle me a lot. But my health is good and I can do everything as usual, so I don’t know if I should be worried or not. May ask the doc for a reference to a good urologist. We’ll see.
And now back to the usual part of the program…
Pavo, makeups may be tough, but better you take care of it now than later.Get well soon.

So I thought I’d google her to see if she’s still with the company. I found her obituary.
Ummph, that’s a bit of a jolt.
Cookie, hooray for the passport success. My Real ID is my driver’s license, had to take a lot of paperwork with me when I renewed it, but hopefully was worth the bother.
I’m not a big phone-caller, used to do it all the time when I was in back before E-mail, now it’s so much easier to text/email someone.
FCM, glad the new card has arrived. My PNC card expires in May and I am expecting a new one soon.
VanGo, you’ll soon be like us old geezers, seeing the doc on a regular basis.
JtC, they have been next door since I moved in 25+ years ago. I wouldn’t say we are close, but we exchange Xmas presents and watch each other’s house when we’re on vacation. Good people. And bee colonies? You planning to produce your own honey or attract bears (not our swampy).
And that’s it for this moment. Might have another moment in me later, but time to do my You-Tubing. Take care all.
Canes win. Making Cajun style chicken, Andouille and rice for dinner.

May ask the doc for a reference to a good urologist. We’ll see.

(not our swampy).
You want to plant limes and juniper bushes for that.
“Urology Department, can you hold?”

I’ve known of people with missing limbs who got denied twice before finally getting a lawyer.
Mom had COPD, breast cancer, and 2 replaced knees, and still got rejected twice.

If I am able to do SSDI, I will actually have more money available to me than my current take home pay, so I’m hoping for that.
< still crosses fingers >

You planning to produce your own honey or attract bears
While I wouldn’t mind attracting swampy et al over for din, I forgot to include the link. Heifer International is one of the few charities I still send money to.
My money buys chickens and bees for poor families in impoverished countries. The gifts include someone teaching the families to care for their new critters and they have to agree to share knowledge and breeding critters with neighbors.

Mom had COPD, breast cancer, and 2 replaced knees, and still got rejected twice.
People end up homeless and/or dead over the wait. It was bad when I was working, I’m sure things aren’t going to get any better soon.

I don’t know any of my neighbor’s birthdays. Heck, I don’t know most of their last names.
I know the guy next door is Ben L (I know his last name because a few times his mail was in our mailbox.) I think his ex is named Tiffany - she’s been gone at least a decade. And I know the man behind our lot works with Daughter, but I don’t know his name - I suppose I could ask her. As for everyone else around here - I wouldn’t recognize them. In fact, I can’t be positive anyone walking around here lives around here. I’ve got this problem with facial recognition.

Getting my Real ID was a serious PITA.
Ours was no biggie as I recall. I don’t know what documents we had to dig up, but we had them all at hand. It’s been some years since we did it.

FCM, glad the new card has arrived.
We are, too! I’ve changed all the auto-pay accounts, so I now have the new number memorized! It’s just the last 5 digits that are different. And the date. And the CVV. But that’s all! In fact, the last 4 or 5 cards have all had the same 8 numbers to start. I’m gonna assume those identify the bank/credit union that issued the card, but I could be all wet.
Another episode of Vera wrapped up our day. I’m about to head to bed. Hoping I can sleep thru again (knowing full well that I just put a curse on my sleep tonight.)
