I had to show my AZ drivers license, my birth certificate, my marriage certificate, my social security card, our house title and another bill with both of our names to prove that I actually lived in the same home.
Yes, I still have those things close to hand, but didn’t expect to have to prove residency besides the land title, so it took two visits. I’ve since heard that I was lucky, most women have to make at least three visits to get a Real ID so I’m not really looking forward to dealing with my passport paperwork.
I got a call this morning saying my contacts had arrived at the optical place. Yay! So I walked to the bus station, took the bus out there, got the contacts, and decided to walk back. Once I challenge myself, it’s hard to say no. It was only another 5.5 miles but seemed longer. I ran a hot bath with epsom salts, poured myself a medicinal mini-cocktail, and soaked. I’m now ensconced in my little recliner and feeling a lot better.
No, it wouldn’t. You’ve built up a lot of stamina. I’d never be able to swim OR treadmill like you do, mister.
My fingers are crossed that you feel right as rain by tomorrow! Resting is an excellent idea. I once lost my voice completely. I tried gargling, hot liquids, cold liquids, but it was gone. I had to call the sub caller since I wouldn’t be able to teach that day. How do you do that with no voice? I shouted as loud as I could. The sub caller told the school secretary, “I got a call that sounded like it was an obscene phone caller. I think it was Ms. Nellie.”
BooFae, Muffin looks miffed. Maybe you should call her Miffin. She’s a beauty, though.
This reminds me of my mother. She lived the Psalm, “This is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” and recited it often and enthusiastically. We included it in her funeral Mass. (The original doesn’t have exclamation points in it, but she said it with happy enthusiasm.)
Hahahaha. Got me!
That’s very logical. I actually feel kind of guilty sitting in the “shot chair” when so many people are huddled under blankets and hooked up to IV’s.
That is so sweet! My heart is full.
I do, too. The protective film on my phone screen is also cracked. I figure it’s proof positive that I need that protection.
I second that! Kitten_Mitten is one of the sweetest people on the board. I doubt she knows how many people she cheers every day.
flyboy, you’ve certainly had it rough lately. You’re overdue for some unexpected good news.
Fingers crossed here, too!
That’s horrible. I got accepted the first time, but being legally blind made it a shoe-in. It angers me that people with cancer don’t automatically qualify for SSDI. It’s barbaric. I’m sorry your mom went through all that.
Friday night, wee hours of Sunday (post midnight), Sunday afternoon, and Monday we head outside and circle the church. Three times of course. Unless you can’t circle the church easily, then once is acceptable. It is always chaotic.
There is an order… and there must be a few people who will have their own opinion on that order. If you are lucky those opinions will be one language. The majority of the church will empty out to join in the circling.
I don’t know how many versions of the 118th psalm we covered when I sang in church choirs, from atraipsing through the meadow version to one that would do any soul choir proud.
For me, with the back issue, diabetes, lymphedema and a few other issues, it may not be as long a wait. At least I hope so.
Hey, y’all. Spent the last coupla days in ultra-sloth mode - barely got outta bed Sunday- so prolly need to get some shit done tonight, since S.M. scheduled me to leave at 11 p.m. for whatever reason so I’m home semi-early.
I hope they call back soon and straighten it out, tax nonsense is the last thing you need.
Not good in your line of work! I hope you feel better soon and the voice returns to normal.
I am sorry, that must be a tough one to deal with.
That’s a favourite one over here, rail replacement bus services A lot of times over public holidays, there’s engineering work going on because they decide fewer people will be travelling by train so it’s a good time to shut off bits of the line and throw a bus replacement in there. More trouble than it’s worth, most of the time.
Fabulous! It’s really hard to get an acceptable photo done - correct expression, no shadows, right coloured background, everything plain. I had to do an online application for my mum’s disabled parking badge that required a photo, it was just as difficult to get that one right. Congratulations!
She’s permanently miffed! Today we had a little tussle over a puppy pad. She’s using the litter tray and I wanted to remove the puppy pad that I’d put down where she last had a poo on the floor. She hung on to it with a claw so I had to manoeuvre it around a bit to slip off her claw. Took it away and replaced it with a small crocheted blanket that will be more comfortable if she decides to snooze on it. She’s now sulking in the bookcase again.
Yesterday was a productive day in the end - I did the grocery shopping ('im indoors only wanted some diet Irn-Bru so I picked that up for him) in the morning and after lunch we hauled a car-load of rubbish to the tip. We had some broken electrical items to dispose of and quite a lot of cardboard, and some other bits and pieces that can’t go in our normal landfill collection. I remembered to take my driving licence with me as you need some kind of ID to get into the tip. They used to ask for a driving licence/photo ID plus a utility bill but last time I went, the guy on the gate said you only really need one. It’s to prove that you live in our council district and have paid via local council tax to use the facilities, they don’t want people from Dudley nipping over the border and abusing it!
Today we have a couple of fence panels arriving this morning, they’ll need to be treated with Cuprinol before being slotted into the concrete post things. We lost two panels from the front boundary in the most recent storms and it’s taken 'im indoors months to do anything about it. I would have done the job myself but since he said he’d do it, he would have had a right strop if I’d gone ahead and sorted it out instead.
Anyway, I rang them this morning and they said delivery should be between 11am and 1pm so I’ve got an hour and a half before then. Time to drink more tea and decide what else to do with the day. Painting fence panels, and pushing the rollsuck around the house sounds like my future.
In 1989 my parents helped me bring my stuff from Michigan back to Kansas. Just as we were reaching the outskirts of East Lansing traffic was stopped in all four directions on country roads. We got out to see what was going on and in the center of the intersection was an absolutely monstrous snappinjg turtle. He was viscious and the way he was removed from the road was for one guy in front of him keeping him distracted while another crept up behind him, grabbed his tail, and dragged him to the water filled ditch at the side of a road.
BooFae, maybe you should assign Muffin to ‘Im Indoors to make sure that he’s doing what he’s supposed to do! And yes, thank goodness, my tax issue has been solved. It was so totally frustrating and I ended up paying a late fee because I was so frustrated that I couldn’t deal with it.
Today I’m going to start physical therapy again for my left foot/ankle. I am actually looking forward to it because I’m tired of the pain that I’m having no matter whether I’m wearing my brace and orthotics or not. Then, as I believe I mentioned tomorrow I’m getting my new brace. I am excited about that, too.
As for right now there’s a poodle on my lap and I just got done eating a pop tart because there’s not a lot of breakfast foods right now in the house. Shopping will occur soon.
Oh, and after PT, will be breakfast #2 from McDonald’s as suggested by my mom.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and cloudy. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and after they are stowed, we will go to the hog trough GC cause OYKW has a gnawin’ and a cravin’. I took butter outa da freezer last night and put it in da fridge. Cookie makeage will happen tomorrow.
rocker we do a couple of processions a year that start from outside. Candlemas and Palm Sunday start in the memorial garden and the whole congregation processes from there to the front entrance and into the church. There is a side door by the garden folk who can’t do the processional can use to enter the church. When we host the Easter Vigil, that starts in the garden with the rekindlin’’ of the Paschal candle and the procession. We don’t march all around the buildin’ as we are far too lazy for such things.z
Now I need more caffeine. I suppose I must needs purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed as well. I do hope the public appreciates what I go through!
Some years back, this county required that you get a sticker for your car to prove you’re allowed to use the dump and convenience centers, but we never did and they never pressed it. Nor has anyone ever asked for ID, tho a couple of times, the attendants asked where we lived. Lately, however, no one seems to care. Maybe we’re too deep in the county for cheaters to try - perhaps it’s more of a problem near the borders? Dunno.
Theoretically, we’re going to finish the installation of the mini-split and 2 lights at Daughter’s “clubhouse” this weekend. (They keep changing what that call that building. It started as studio, which is what the real estate listing called it, then became outhouse…) FCD told them they need to clean the place out so he has room to work. They were using it as a giant, walk-in closet and trash dump. (They should call it ClutterLand!)
We’re going over on Firday so SIL can load the garbage into our truck and take it to the dump. Then with all the crap out of the way, maybe there will be space to get everything done. Ultimately, it will be set up as a playroom for the kids, theoretically removing all the assorted detritus from the living room and, well, the rest of the little house. I don’t know about SIL, but we did teach Daughter to be a bit tidier than she is now.
I definitely need to prep the basement for the plumbers tomorrow. There’s a lot of stuff piled around the deep sink where both supply valves need to be replaced, so the stuff must be relocated. They’ll also need clear access to the sink in my studio and the hose bib in the back yard. So there are some of today’s chores. FCD feels guilty for not doing these repairs himself. But crawling on the floor and in a cabinet and whatever else is required, well, we can afford to have it done, so we shall. I’m sure he’s comparing himself to his dad, who, till the dementia set it, did all sorts of home repairs. But his dad didn’t have 10 spinal surgeries…
Not sure what else is on my agenda. No doubt my day will fill with chores. Meanwhile, I need to slog thru the gazillion emails verifying the change of VISA on our assorted auto-pay accounts. Oh, rats - and I just remembered I need to change the accounts on some of our vacation reservations. Guess I can do that now.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I shall take Carmen out for an oil change and a car wash. Also, I need bourbon. Spot has decreed the day as Laceration Day.
Good morning all. The morning pills have been taken and as soon as I finish this message I’ll break my fast, so might be a short one. 62F outside and supposed to reach 80F with a 50-50 chance of rain, so humidity will probably make an appearance. Need to go pickup my heavyweight comforter from the Dry Cleaners and do my weight training, but no soccer practice scheduled, so should be a quiet day.
Ordered an Oyster Card, which is the British card for getting around on the Underground and local rails around London. I could have waited until I got there to get it, would have saved the shipping cost, but I prefer to have my onward travel settled early rather than when I arrive after an overnight flight and customs/immigration lines.
Aye, there’s the rub…
JtC, should have known you were doing some good and kind…
nellie, thanks for the vote of confidence, but there is gym-level stamina and real life stamina and I’m not sure I could do what you do.
Sticky Buns, glad things got worked out on the tax issue. And rooting for the PT to help you out.
Cupcakes, that is quite the tale of the big snapper. Still glad people would stop rather than just drive around (or over) him.
Only procession this heathen does anymore is at soccer tournaments, when as a referee I march out with the youth teams trailing me in single file, stop at the center of the field and they spread out facing their parents in a line. Great photo op for said parents and the kids seem to like doing it.
FCM, happy room reordering. And now you have the plumbers in…
And that’s all for now. A Gala apple and a can of Diet Pepsi await. Have a good Hump Day all.
It sounds like these two might possibly be related.
I’m home from PT and have been instructed to do, amongst other things, Toe Yoga.
Now I’m getting ready for some art time in the kitchen and maybe some actual cooking afterwards.
ETA: I’ve been feeling a bit off lately and I just realized why today. I sent my resume and credentials to the clubhouse two weeks ago and have not heard a single word back. I sent a follow up email last night as well as a sample of an idea that I have for them. So far nothing back. This really upsets me because it’s not like I’m a stranger. They could at least acknowledge what I’ve sent and tell me no. I won’t be able to make it back there in person until next week. When I do go I will say something about it. It hurts my feelings. Too bad I’m not tough.
OK, this house must be haunted or something. The other day after the 2 of us showered, I found a puddle in the laundry basket that sits on the dryer under the shower drain, and the drain pipe was wet. I was just down there, again after 2 of us showered, and no puddle, no drips. Fortunately, I have several other items I want the plumbers to fix, and I’ll have them check that drain anyway, but dang!
I finally got around to making the guest room bed and I opened the window to air out the room - it was a bit stuffy. And I did a reasonable rollsuck upstairs, minus the bedrooms because I didn’t feel like it.
I’ve also been double-checking reservations and stuff for our trip. I need to call Holland America about getting from the ship to Heathrow - I can’t book that on line for some reason. And I’ll make sure I have everything printed out and in my cruise folder. Only 65 days to go!
I am now sporting a removable cast on my left hand/wrist. It’s black so will coordinate with my ensembles. It’s supposedly waterproof but I will take it off for showering. It’s a b word to get off. I ordered new easy to close brasseries this morning.
Ariel needs a bath. She stinks. Like winter poo and horse. Gotta wait for the weather to warm up though.
