t just now saw that I accidentally hit Reply to pilot’s post instead of the whole thread, so it looked like I was addressing him alone when I meant to include everyone. My apologies, especially to pilot.
Amen Coppertone.
We were supposed to get to 25c/78f. They lied. And it was supposed to be dry, but it looks like it’s getting ready to pour.
We’re up on a hill, so we’re not getting flooded out like some other parts of Switzerland.
Keep forgetting to plant the sunflower seeds. Probably wouldn’t come up, between the slugs and the lack of sun.
Metal Mouse, I’m following your trip with great interest, mainly to see how many delays you’ll suffer. Due to his earlier blood clotting issues, my dad has been partially grounded. He’s allowed short-ish flights, but is also considering a train ride. Hope you enjoy your travels.
I’d share if I could. That said, I’m scared to be too short on rain again.
It mentions that the low in Hobart was 7.7°C. We had that here two weeks ago for our low. Yesterday we took our winter duvet off the bed. You know, after summer actually started. So we have our spring/autumn duvet on the bed. Not warm enough for summer.
Also European cars.
Us as well. Really should do something, because if something happens to both of us, Switzerland will probably get it all. Need to put that on the list. I have a copy of my parents will(s) on a USB stick, which has been backed up on our network. I’m glad they have someone local to be their executor.
I know you are not the only one. Seems he’s unintentionally getting picked on, also last week.
Finally did our new photos for our driver’s licenses. They don’t expire, but there’s a new format available, and it’ll be easier for us when we want to drive in other other countries. That’s been on the list since September, but got moved due to vacation, then home improvement, etc.
We are now both caught up on our general checkups. Hubby got homework - take his BP every day at the same time for 2 weeks and send the numbers to the doctor. He’s got a bit of white coat syndrome, plus she ended up taking it right after he hopped down off the table.
So it’s time to do that. Happy Moanday!
That’s certainly not required. Other than paying the lawyer once to draw up the paperwork there are no costs associated with maintaining most trusts.
Speaking very metaphorically you’re in essence setting up a shell company to take over for you when you can’t manage your affairs by reason of death or infirmity. And presumably naming a roster of primary and backup trustworthy family members to manage your / its affairs once you can’t for whatever reason. Until then, you are managing it.
None needed. I figured out what you meant.
As to the morning’s unpleasantness for those disinclined to research …
-
Late last night, so in last week's MMP, **Flyboy** head-shakingly mentioned encountering an IRL friend who'd gone hard-core trumpy and being just baffled by the encounter.
Which mild-mannered comment BBoo quoted and briefly replied to expressing her own baffled agreement. Also late last night = late last MMP.
So this morning in this thread I quoted BBBoo quoting flyboy from the last thread and added my agreement / explanation, albeit in my usual long-winded cocksure manner.
To which Sari intemperately shouted at me and by extension them for bringing politics into the MMP.
Which complaint is IMO 100% valid as to me. I should not have done that.
Subsequently several other posters have objected to, or at least been non-plussed by, the shouting if not necessarily the substance of her complaint.
I think that’s a fair recitation of events and I’m sorry to have been the Big Bad in it. But I was bad.
In keeping with the theme of this week’s thread I’ll now say it’s 5 hours after my big morning post wherein I announced at the end my imminent need to to feed, shevel, and launch. In the time since I’ve: not fed, not sheveled, and not launched. I’m oh for three.
I did do most of my administrivia, talked to an out of town friend for an hour, and posted a lot of drivel on the Dope. So far my procrastinator is workin’ just great. Just great.
I can PM you my name and address - no problem at all - just trying to help out! Because I’m nice, dammit!
After dealing with crap when his father died, FCD has got things streamlined for his mom’s passing (that sounds evil, doesn’t it??) And it helps us having only one daughter - she gets it all when we’re gone. And, yes, we do have powers of attorney and living wills, plus Daughter is beneficiary on our various accounts.
Aide was here and took care of MIL’s shower. Then I made MIL’s lunch and found the fabric. (Yes, BBBoo - it’s for the boat.) I guess I’ll start finishing it tomorrow. I have one more phone call to try to make, then my piddly little chores will be done.
OMG, can I identify. In one job I had, they needed our resumes - no biggie. I had a standard line that was approved to cover my classified job. Well, the asshole who requested the resumes decided he needed to rewrite mine, and what he came up with was absolutely and totally bogus. Fortunately he’d asked before submitting it to the customer.
And in that classified job, I was a project lead and I had my team do the write-up of their specific sections, then I submitted them to the Naval officer in charge of the project. He, with zero electrical engineering experience or education, decided to rewrite that section. Even I, who had some electronic training, recognized what he did as BS, and the engineer who wrote it came down on him pretty hard. Arrogant ass.
I’ve got a couple of poke chops thawing for supper. I’ll add rice, broccoli, gravy, and the last of the cucumber salad. I also went out to check on my veggie patch, and I had to tie up some drooping branches of 'mater plants. I flang some veggie patch fertilizer in there to be soaked in when I water this evening. I need to go back out and check for cucumbers - I meant to do that and got distracted.
Always something…
Huzzah, the power is out. My UPS (not doggio’s brown, but the big dumb battery) is still supplying interwebs. I need to take a closer look at it, since it is not turning on the lamp it ought to. But that’s difficult with the lamp not lighting.
Big winds today apparently took out some power lines. The oh so helpful texts from the elec co say 1,197 houses are without power.
Pilot, thanks much for the explanation. I’m impressed with your grace in taking responsibility.
Frankly, I was taken aback by the way the angry response was expressed. The line about the Dope being a cesspool seemed so out of character that I thought maybe someone’s account had been hacked. I’m still perplexed.
And now I have to go, so will post when I return.
Moderating:
Your frustration with politics being brought into the MMP notwithstanding, under no circumstances is this a post that is appropriate for MPSIMS. If you feel politics is being brought into this forum and they shouldn’t be, flag the post. Don’t engage in a Pit-like rant and compound the problem.
No warning issued, but it’s a close call. You’ve been here long enough to know better.
For those keeping track of my train trip, we are sitting due to a tree on the tracks, probably another 45 minutes before we get moving. We were due in DC at 1:47pm, now looks like after 4pm. Train travel is fun but not if you have an appointment (which I don’t).
More later.
I’m grateful for your explanation (that was a confusing start to my day!) but I highly disagree with the part I quoted.
Also, laundry, food, cleaning, et. al. Oh, and a weather update!
… hang on, lemme mumble a bit …
{ some laundry has been put away }
{ some food has been eaten, and more is about to be consumed }
{ … yeah, no }
{ It’s not nearly as miserable as it was. Yay?? }
{ Monkey, Pretzel, and Charm all say hi! Good thing Monk has extra toe-beans, so he can wave on behalf of those who have … well, no way to wave hello. }
ETA: TRAINS!!
A scholarship program for Embry Riddle could help low income students achieve their dream of flying.
We do need to change our wills as well. Our money will be spent on caring for our cats if they outlive us and then most of what is left will be donated to our favorite charities (cat rescue and the USMC Wounded Warrior barracks in San Diego). Some will go to nieces and nephews but I don’t feel obligated to give them much. Heck, I don’t even know where they all are living anymore.
So I got mixed up and posted the hardware solution in the last thread. Hubs isn’t the sort to just toss hardware. It really isn’t in him to do that because you never know, you might need that specific nut or bolt for something sometime down the road.
I was pretty sure that he had just had a stress dream that followed him after he woke up, but he was so sure that he contacted the bed manufacturer and got a list of the necessary hardware. He was going to go to the hardware store and try to find everything, but I convinced him to go through the big pile of stuff we had unloaded from his car and left in the living room.
He found a box that contained labeled zip-lock bags with all of the “missing” hardware.
Plus he managed to find a different washer/dryer set that could be delivered on the first.
I made him a nice samwich for lunch and am slow cooking a hunk o’ beef for dinner. I also hand-washed (eek!) all of the dishes for him. (The cook doesn’t clean.)
I really want a w/d, LOL!
I went to the laundromat this morning, it was not horrible. It was clean, the machines are new and safe enough that I saw people leaving the laundromat and driving away after starting their machines. It was still not fun.
Ick! Do you have a fridge in your shop so you can move food?
I hope they fix it soon!
Aren’t there enough young, healthy and highly motivated young people riding the train to move the tree off the tracks? Ain’t nobody having fun when the train isn’t moving, of course they will be highly motivated!
An easier question to answer is what don’t I put off until the last minute. I am a world class procrastinator.
As far as dyeing my hair, my BF was a licensed hair person (not sure exactly what the right word is as she was licensed to do both men’s and women’s hair). She has been coming to our house for the last year or so, since she started cutting Hubs hair as well, although he hasn’t needed his hair cut since January since it all fell out from the chemo; but it’s growing back nicely and who knows, he might need it cut in several months. Back to me, when she first started dyeing it, I had it done every 4 weeks, then 6 weeks, then 2 months. When COVID hit, it was about every 6 months. Now we’re back to about 2-1/2 to 3 months. I think I’m going to ask her when she might be available in the near future.
Here are some responses to last week’s MMP:
Men! You can’t live with them and you can probably live without them (I saw that he later redeemed himself; that’s good, after all he did bring the Kurig and the pods)
wow, how cool! Our daughter was in Belgium and she went to the women’s march in Brussels. There were a lot of Americans.
metal mouse ckn parm w linguine sounds pretty good.
I resemble this remark and totally understand.
A-FREAKING-MEN!!!
You know I used to wonder why the Germans didn’t see what was happening and not allow it to happen. I could see where we were headed in 2017 and if people couldn’t see by Nov 2020, I question their rationality
Well, I’ve only read boofae’s initial post and I see there are a total of 51 so far. I’ll post this and get to reading shortly.
JtC, I’d be out there helping if I could. We’re still not moving at 5pm an’d apparently they need to get a new train crew here because of time worked issues. Have already e-mailed my Hotel that I’ll be a late check-in.
On the good side, might get another dinner out of it…
There’s been a lot of that today. I did it earlier. I meant flyboy my bonked brain freelanced that to our other flying guy and sent it to pilot and, as always, both were very good sports about it.
Have they closed the bar yet?
You should definitely get another dinner and drink out of it. And go to dinner early, before they run out of the best entrees.
And also, when you get home call customer service and ask for a voucher/credit to compensate you for the inconvenience and delay. They’ll give you some $$, they’re generous with that. Every little bit helps.
Howdy Y’all! I begrudgingly donned proper attire and went to the pharmacy. It took a whole thirty minutes roundtrip. How I suffer! Quality cee-mint pond time was had and sup got fixed and et. Now 'tis time for Netflix and chill. There will be popcorn in my near future. Have y’all guessed that I have a big thing for popcorn yet?
Lily best description of a Tesla Cybertruck ever!
MetalMouse glad you continue to enjoy choochoo time. I saw about the tree on the track. Hopefully by now you are in DC.
Coppertone “boxed lasagna” is frozen lasagna. It comes in a box, hence the name. The “don’t judge!” is a long runnin’ Mumper schtick about makin’ any kind of food that comes in a box or any food that is easy prep, like whomp bizkits. I see shoe explained it for ya. As a kid I thought those Chef Boyardee pizzas in a box were some high falutin’ eatin’.
Pilot you steakanated while you balconated. Sometimes 'tis got to remain at home and dissheveled. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
Pen I am sure someone more clever than moi will do you a better nickname. Welcome to the MMP! You are now one of us. I do not believe we’ve ever had an Australian Mumper. My bday is July 29th which is in the thickest of Summer in the northern hemisphere. I have always thought it would be fun to go to Australia on my bday just to experience it in Winter. I’m weird.
Nettie yay for (to y’all) new vehicle!
Cookie Happy doperversary!
VanGo ick! Hope the power is back on at your place by now.
JtC yay for the found hardware and for gettin’ a w/d sooner! Sounds like hubs earned some points today.
Supper was good. Dishwasher is sloshing away, but I had to hand-wash a few items because it is so full. Rocky road ice cream later. Quiet chillage now.
I got the truck back. It wasn’t $1K - it was a mere $988 and change! not bad, really, for a 2009 bottom-of-the-line vehicle. Plus, yanno, it’s clean!
Ok, chillage for reals now.
swampy - wasn’t the late Dottie Gumdrop an Aussie? She was living somewhere in the Middle East but I believe she returned to her native turf before cancer took her.

Happy Doperversary, Chefguy!
My worst procrastinations always involve medical/health stuff, and right now is no exception:
- I need to ask my bariatric NP when she’d like to see me again, now that I’ve taken weight-loss meds off the table; I should have done this over a month ago
- This month I’m due for an updated tetanus shot: I’m pretty sure the NP will say it’s time for more lab work, in which case I’ll make both appointments at my PCP’s office (which is why I’ve been putting this one off)
- I need to make a podiatrist appointment: I’m not in pain, which is why I keep putting it off, but I think one of my toenails needs to go
I also need new license plates: at the start of the month I noticed that a small part of the top left corner of my back plate had chipped/flaked right off, taking the first few letters of the word “Virginia” with it! You can definitely still tell what it says, and the registration sticker on that side isn’t affected, so I don’t think it’s anything I’d get a ticket for…but I hate knowing it’s like that. I’ve had these tags since 2008 – I got them four cars ago – so I guess it’s time!
I wound up not going to the jam session yesterday (shocking, I know!); I also didn’t order a pizza for lunch, because I got some lunch stuff while I was at the grocery store. I’m about to order pizza for dinner, though.
I’m super glad the high temp stayed under 90°F today – it’s 86 at the moment – but I know it’s going to creep back up tomorrow and Wednesday. Meh.
A buncha replies from the last thread before charging into this one…
That would have made me unreasonably happy, too!
!
But don’t use me as any kinda yardstick: I am super easily entertained/amused.
Good.
Nice!
I used a reel/push mower at the last townhouse I lived in; I left it in the basement when I moved out. It worked just fine for the few years I was there. The place I’m in now has much more yard; when I moved here is when I started paying people to cut the grass.
Awww, this is a crazy busy week for me otherwise I’d definitely be trying to buy you lunch or something while you’re here! But, now you don’t have to think of polite ways to turn me down.
“Why am I the only person that has that dream?”
Yay!!
Our weather is usually pretty similar, but I don’t have any rain in the forecast until Wednesday evening.
Aww, FCM beat me to it! I was going to say that I’m not too old to be adopted…
Been there…ugh. I’m so sorry.
LOL!
I nuke a full-sized bag of Pop Secret Homestyle after dinner nearly every day. Sometimes I even make dinner decisions based on leaving room for popcorn. I’m working to curb my evening snacking/cookies habit, but they can have my popcorn when they pry it from my cold dead hands!
