(Old) Imagine a world with no MMP!

If it helps, I think of “frumious” as a slightly bastardized version of “furious”. There’s no N in furious.

Heck, this being the MMP, and @Rilchiam being all about Lewis Carrol-esque wordplay, maybe frumious is really frumpy+furious. Still no “N” in there.

Up from naptime. Dinner tonight is chicken tacos, refried beans, and a Manhattan.

We deliver a lot of those on Saturdays. I pray to Og they don’t use them till Sunday night.

But does he own a fez? Because fezzes are cool.

Unless you tampered in God’s domain, and turned yourself into a Fly remake, you’re good.Help me. Help me.

You could have bought 2 Carmens for that.

According to some Identify My Spider web site, my balcony companion is a Common European Garden Spider. I’m no where near Europe. Could be the start of a horror movie, I suppose.

I’ve never been to a pro basketball game. I used to go to Bengals’ games with an old boyfriend and attended Titans’ games when living in Nashville. I grew up going to Cubs’ and White Sox games and Reds’ games as an adult. Over the years, I also went to a few South Bend White Sox and Nashville Sounds minor league games.

He’s not seen it yet. We’re not moved in so he’s hanging out with Sis’ crew.

At Titans stadium, unless you get a really good seat, you’ll see more on TV.

Welcome back, mindfield!

Sis and I ate at one of those today too!

Ours growing up always did.

We tried to get the wifi set up today, but will have to try again tomorrow when BIL can lend a hand. We also went to Lowe’s and spent my Coinstar voucher on a tub mat, shower curtain, hooks and a plunger (older building, that’s a precaution). Will swing by King Dollar tomorrow for a brush. I also want to go to the post office for a money order for the movers ( the final payment must be made that way).

The movers will be here Saturday with my belongings, so I’ll be back in my own bed that night!!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I think our flyboy has a fez.

Did not know that. I guess that’s why we’re here, to exchange the lack of knowledge. I got plenty of dumb to share. I’ve only been boat owner adjacent, in lakes, not ocean, so no knowledge of the requirements.

red Glad the move is going ok so far. Hope it all continues that way.

I know doggio has one.

My couch has been deblanskestrated* by my new house mate.

*She took all the pillows and blankets off the couch.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Today is the feast of Saint Bernard, so I guess we should all drink a cask of brandy and drool on ourselves.

On the SDMB* right now:

Early early good mornin’ y’all!! Hope y’all are doin’ just fine. I’m hunkey doodly personally (well, as hunkey doodly as I can be that is).

Life hasn’t really thrown me any big curveballs in a bit thankfully, just kinda still living at home going to my part-time job a couple times a week, if that. Could say I have it easy, maybe I do, but that’s alright. Ain’t nuthin’ wrong with that I don’t think!

That being said, I have maybe been considering therapy for a while. My coworker suggested it further, as I have a lot of self-worth, anxiety, and anger issues. Just sucks festering in those feelings, y’know? I’ll consider it more and maybe ask for potential resources from them next time I work with them (hopefully next week). They went to a queer therapist so I’m hopin’ to get something similar. Feels like they’d be easier to talk to.

I love watching baseball, but haven’t been to an actual game in a while. Since I live closest to Milwaukee, Brewer games are pretty accessible for me, but…I dunno, just feels more convenient to watch it from home or at a pub. My sister and her boyfriend have gone to several this year already, so at least they have fun with it.

I do need to get back at going on walks though. I keep forgetting to go out (or the weather just don’t cooperate) and when that happens I start to feel groggy and bleh. Probably will today at some point, hopefully the weather is nice.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 19c/66f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Same fucking shit, different fucking day.”

Welcome back, I’m glad you decided to dip your toes in again!

Goes nicely with salmon - will the cats get some fish as a treat?

I hope not! Just don’t go poking it  She looks like Araneus Diadematus (garden spider) so quite harmless, and very pretty.

Mine too, but in a different way. It does affect me taking ‘im indoors to the station as it doubles the time to get there, plus my little street is a solid line of cars and nobody’s willing to let me out into the stream of traffic going the opposite way. Also, my commute to campus will be ruined by hordes of schoolies who use the train because campus has at least three large schools nearby.

I’m expecting to hear that your boss said wonderful things about you. If not, I’ll send the PSWSNS over to sort that out.

I hope he likes it when he gets there!

I’m sorry you feel like that, I hope you find the right person to talk to and they can help you work through all of that. Enjoy the walks, getting outside can be so good for your head.

Nothing much of any excitement going on here, I made campus food yesterday but ran out of plastic tubs for fruit so I still have one day’s worth of fruit to chop up, which I can do tonight when I get home and wash up the tubs I used today.

Cats got fed, litter trays got cleaned, I had dinner, watched some stuff on the tellybox, gave the cats their bedtime treats and went to bed. I had a fairly straightforward journey to campus today, there’s building work going on downstairs so we can hear a lot of banging, crashing and drilling. Outside, there’s a big marquee going up on the Green Heart area outside our office which will form part of the Welcome Week stuff for incoming students.

General day of disruption, I think - but I should be at the pub tonight with friends so that’s something to look forward to!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 89 and partly cloudy. I shall accomplish mowage this mornin’ whilst OYKW goes to the Pubic Sto’ to procure provisions. We have chances of rain for the next few days, so mowage is needed today. Sup will be BLTs and oven fries cause easy to make and tasty.

J_Bats unless the spider starts to weave ominous messages you should be fine.

GodBod therapy is helpful. If you decide to give it a try may you find the therapist that is right for you soonest.

Mindfill welcomes back to the fold! I second MetalMouse’s suggestion of kaboom as your Mumper nickname.

red hope you get the wifi figured out today. Hope Nelson and you can get settled into the new digs Sattidy night.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must steel myself for mowage. Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Mornin’ all - about 7am & just sunrise as I start driveling. Been up almost 2 hours. Thinning crescent Moon, Venus, Jupiter all looking good. With the Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux right nearby. We had low rain showers spitting occasional lightning at the fishies. Those are dissipating as I type. Presently 79/26 on the way to 97/36. 97/36 isn’t quite record-setting, but it’s close.

Ref some comments in the last week or two about weekdays …
Yesterday I went to a local watering hole for HH. They have a great special: Whiskey Wednesdays, where everything amber is half price. I was looking forward to tasting a couple of shots more affordably. Once I arrived I asked the lovely and talented bar lady Nikki for the whiskey menu. As she handed it over she said “Today is cheap oyster Tuesday”. D’oh!! :man_facepalming:.

So cheap oysters & cheap pinot grigio were had as an appetizer then I wandered over to the craft taco joint across the way for Taco Tuesday and margaritas as my main meal. I suppose the moral of the story is:

When life hands you Tuesdays, make tacos.

And best of all I can still go to Whisky Wednesday tonight. Yaay!

Other than that little fux pax as the French so eloquently put it, yesterday and today are RDOS city. Housekeepers are due soon, so I must needs become sheveled lest they be scandalized by my unkempt state.

As to y’all

@missred: hooray for increasing settlement and Saturday furniture. And Nelson rejoining you then in his new home.

@CorpusNeptune: If you’re struggling, find the help you need. You’re at the right stage of life to make adjustments readily, once you know what they are. Wishing you well.

@Mindfield: Welcome back. I don’t recall you from The Before Times, but I didn’t start MMPing regularly until maybe 3 years ago, with occasional appearances a few years before that.

As to spectator sports:
I attend major and minor league baseball, maybe 5 games each per season. Back when late wife was in better shape we attended more like 15 minor league per season here in Miami, but only a couple major league. Waay back in St. Louis when she was healthy she and I did more like 15 each per season. Not quite one a week, but not too far from it.

Eons ago in college I went to NFL LA Rams games a lot. College games (USC) too. Living walking distance to the stadium helps. Went a couple times when they were the St. Louis Rams. Have not yet seen a Dolphins game in the 11 years I’ve lived here. GF likes going to pro sports, so we’ll do that this upcoming season for sure.

In St. Louis again late wife and I used to go to NHL Blues games a decent amount, maybe 5x / season. For about 10 years there we lived walking distance to the light rail and there were stations adjacent to both the hockey arena and the baseball stadium (and the football stadium, come to think of it). Not having to deal with parking and traffic certainly increases the allure of any sporting event.

We went to one NHL Panthers game here in Miami before she got too raggedy to enjoy being out that long. I haven’t been since, but again GF and I will probably be re-establishing the habit. Right now she lives a few miles from both the hockey & football stadiums, so once hubby’s out of the picture and I’m a regular at her house that’ll be easier. Although the goal for about then is to re-habit both of us together or at least nearby one another.

Basketball? Under no circumstances will I watch it on TV, much less attend a game. Uggh.

Time to shevel.

Cheers and a happy Humpday to all!

I never would have guessed that those were still in use - what a blast from the past!

Last night, I decided to try some ocean noises on Alexa to lull me to sleep. I should have mentioned that to FCD, since I usually go to bed before he does (and wake before him, so we’re slightly out of sync.) Anyway, I was lulled to sleep till he came in and said “What the heck is that??” loudly enough to wake me. My own fault, but I was a tad ticked at him. I think I dropped off again before the ocean stopped (I set it for 30 minutes.)

As for today - absolutely no clue. It started iffy - Ziva horked up her kibbles (fortunately, on tile.) It did set off a small alarm - Taz started doing that not too long before his last day. And she’s older than he was. But other than that, she’s her usual, reclusive self.

Beyond that, not sure what I’ll do. I thought about sorting the grands’ toys. Some are obviously baby toys and need to go. So maybe I’ll do that. I’ve asked Daughter to tend to it several times, obviously to no avail. With Tobias coming over tomorrow and his already declared desire to hang out in the basement, that may be the best plan for the day.

For some reason, there’s tons of construction in this county. Leonardtown has a brand-new car wash, and something’s going on in the now-deserted grocery store. California also has a car wash under construction, as well as a Royal Farms convenience store and plans for a Home Depot behind it. And a Honda dealership has been approved across from Lowes. Hollywood is getting a new O’Reilly car stuff store. Charlotte Hall has a new ChikFilA with an Aldi almost done behind it and plans for a Starbucks next to it. Plus a Weis grocery store and a mini-strip shopping center next to it. And slightly south, there’s a Sheetz almost ready to open, to be joined by another O’Reilly and several other stand-alone stores planned. Great Mills is getting a YMCA and I’ve heard there are other things being build in Lexington Park (I haven’t been down that way in some time.) And that’s not counting the expanding housing developments.

It makes me sad - this was a largely rural county when we moved here 21 years ago. Now it’s becoming a major bedroom community for DC. I’m hoping our little neighborhood and adjacent areas are safe from over-development. Regardless, traffic will get worse and worse.

OK, I’ve vented my spleen. Onward!!

Happy Wednesday!!

I also spent quite a bit of time as a juvenile delinquent

Mornin’ all.

It’s 63°F and somewhat cloudy outside. The sun only rose about 10 minutes ago, so it’s still kind of dark outside. The forecast calls for morning cloudiness, but a mostly sunny afternoon, with a daytime high of 76°F.

Rilchiam, please accept my apologies for misspelling your nickname.

I did end up putting together the storage box yesterday. The directions are merely pictures, and while one would think that would be enough, there were a couple of oddities in the assembly. For example, the corners had pieces that curved, and you had to bend them. I figured that out, but when it came time to do the backside, it took me a couple of tries. The first couple of times, it didn’t leave enough room for the back wall pieces. I finally figured out I had to turn those pieces so that the smooth side was outside. Add the gazillion tiny screws, the fact that some screws were very, very difficult to insert and turn, and that I had to do it with a screwdriver, and well, the morning was gone. My husband helped too, but frankly, I did most of it. I need to find my drill, damn it.

Still, the project is mainly done. Now, I need to remove the plants from the area where I plan to put the box, level the ground, add gravel and sand, tamp, place pavers, and then put the box there. That’s today’s project. I want to get it done because we’re supposed to see temperatures of 90°F or so in a few days.

FCM, where I live, was rural primarily with tiny pockets of neighborhoods well off the main highway, or at least hidden by woods and fields. However, starting in the mid-90s, development ran amok out here, and now the main drag is strip mall hell, and they are having to widen what used to be quiet backroads to accommodate all the traffic. It makes me sad, too, and I want to move to a bigger lot and a more peaceful area.

Although I’m almost a mile off the main drag, traffic noise is awful because all the trees lining it were cut down to make room for a theater, restaurants, and other little shops. Additionally, four new neighborhoods were built on the street that leads to my house.

Red, yay for your epic move being almost over. Just a few more days.

That about all the news from around here.

You all take care of yourselves.

And Oysters…

Good morning all. Up to micturate at 5:15am and then climbed back into bed until after 7am so should be ready for the day. Weather Wizards say there is a 50-50 chance of rain this afternoon so soccer practice is still questionable. Need to visit the bank, I am comfortable with my debit card now but have about $6 cash in my pocket and that doesn’t feel right, so will acquire some more green. Other than that no major plans are involved with the day.

Agreed, I don’t own a fez but I do have a Turkish kufi cap…

Since everyone seems to be in the mood to list their major league visits, I’ll join the party. Baseball–Cleveland (both old and new stadiums) and St. Louis (old stadium only), numerous time for both. One off’s a LA Angels while on vacation. Basketball–Saw the Cavaliers many years ago play the Lakers with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but that was all. Hockey-Never been to a NHL game, 1-2 minor league games in my youth. Football–Been to games in Cleveland, Atlanta, and Indianapolis as I recall. Been over 10 years since going to my last major league sporting event.

red, movers are pretty quick, have a good weekend moving in.

God Bod, you know you best, but I think boo fae, swampy, and pilot all said it better than I could.

boo fae, hope the new commute realities aren’t too bad.

swampy, happy mowage.

FCM, sounds a lot like what has happened around me in the past 20 years. When I moved here it was a relatively quite place, lots of space and all the needs without overdoing. Since then we’ve gone from about 15,000 people to 65,000 and almost every space is either housing or new stores/restaurants. Sounds like your area may be starting the same Boom…for better or worse.

Taters, yeah, pictures and/or limited directions can be a problem, I have a couple ‘mini-goals’ for soccer that are still in my car because trying to follow the minimalist directions for assembly has baffled me to date. And sounds like you’ve experienced much the same urban growth as I have…I’ve been lucky being at the end of a cul-de-sac with public land next to me so no new housing.

And time to get some fluids and consider 1st meal of the day. Have a good hump day all.

Just way too busy these days. Sorry for skimming through the thread.

SenGirl has a part time job at a drug store, and is really working hard at doing well. They have a quota for a shampoo HQ is trying to push, and she’s already made her quote, while some full time employees have not.

She’s run into a really annoying cow-orker and while our rides home before were “discussions” about some certain K-pop groups (she discusses and I try to follow), now it’s mostly about the stupid antics of the cow-orker. That, unfortunately, is something I can relate to much more.

I haven’t told her that she’s going to be running into incompetence for the next 50 years.

SenBoy went and helped me with the dismantling project. He worked hard and is discovering how hard physicial labor can be.

Really tired. Off be bed.

It’s the first day of second grade!

Outfit courtesy of her dad’s mom. Daughter’s MIL loves to shop for clothes for the kids.

We’re less than a quarter of a mile off MD5, but about 3 miles up the road, 5 curves our way and 235 takes all the traffic heading to the Naval Air Station and the main shopping area in California and on to Lexington Park. We’ll get occasional loud motorcycles or big rigs passing our neighborhood, but thankfully, the worst of the noise is much farther away. I think the only thing keeping development in check are all the Amish farms, and they’re pretty much all on our side of 235, so 5 will probably not be widened hereabouts… I hope…

Which reminds me of the little house I bought when I first moved to Florida. It was so far in the boonies, I worried I wouldn’t be able to find it the first time I went there without the realtor. Granted, it was 40-some years ago, but since then, the main drag has been widened and a gazillion strip shops and stores and housing developments have been added. Plus that main drag has turned pretty trashy - yet another reason I’m glad we left Orange Park. In fact, I just looked up my old neighborhoods on Google maps - I don’t recognize them any more - soooooo crowded!

OK, no more goofing off - I need to get started on the toy sort.

I do. SWMBO won’t let me wear it.

Abbey is not very food-motivated, so she rarely begs. But yes, Goo got some fish from both of us (mostly from me).

No worries!

I wonder if it’s true that high schools assign group projects so students can learn what it’s like to work on a committee?

This morning I had three meetings on my calendar, but two of them got cancelled and the other one ended 30 min ago. I have stuff to do today, but nothing pressing…and there are posts to read and lunch to eat…so, here I am.

I love baseball. :baseball: It’s my favorite sport to watch – preferrably in person, but I’ll watch a Yankees game on TV every now and then (it’s not easy to watch them without cable TV and without living in the NY area). When I was with my ex we had season Nationals tickets, and went to ~70 (out of 81) home games every year. I also used to go to one or two Nats games a year with a friend and his brother, until their game behavior became too obnoxious for me a few years ago. So, I’ve been to RFK Stadium and Nationals Park more times than I care to count. I’ll root for the Nats as the local team, but first and foremost I’m a lifelong Yankees fan and have been to Yankee Stadium (both the old and current ones) several times. I’ve also been to Orioles Park at Camden Yards once, and went to Orioles games at the old Memorial Stadium a couple of times. I also enjoy A - AAA ballgames, and have been to PWC Stadium to see the Potomac Nationals (before they moved). An NCAA ballpark opened near me a couple of years ago, and I hope to catch a game there at some point. I haven’t been to a live game in a while: I haven’t gone to NYC or a Yankees game in four years, and I haven’t been to a Nats game in probably about as long because I won’t go with that guy/his bro and I don’t have any other local baseball friends (and going to a game is definitely one of those things it’s not worth doing on my own). The odds of making a new “real” friend decrease with every passing year, but I’d love to someday meet someone who can tolerate me and would be up for planning a vacation around going to various major league parks.

I used to also love hockey, but I haven’t been to an NHL game or even watched one on TV in forever. I’m not really interested in any other sport. I’ve never watched basketball on TV, but I went to one NBA game and that was enough. I don’t follow the NFL, and have never been to a game – but I’d probably go if friends had an extra ticket or something. I enjoyed watching college football when I was with my ex (he went to Ohio State), and could see getting back into that someday. And I’d definitely go to an English football match: whenever I can start traveling again my list includes a return to the Harrogate area where my family used to live, and I hope to get to a Town match.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

(Yes, I was way more amused than I had a right to be, but I figured I’d let you know.)

Some of their upcoming games will be on HBO Max, including tomorrow night, Friday night, and Saturday night (and the 29th). I’m hoping to catch at least one of them. I entered a lottery for tickets when they came to DC a year or so ago, but wasn’t selected.

Sometimes you people make it hard for me to love you. *sigh*

What about something like oatmeal bars, that are slightly more healthy than cookies?

“Welcome” isn’t appropriate, and you were here way before I became an MMP regular so “welcome back” also isn’t right…so, um, hi to you, too!

Definitely the latter. And I second susan’s recommendation to let the manager know.

The consensus seems to be “no”…but you may want to consider charging it rent. (!!)

The kids in the county where I live went back this week, but the kids here don’t go back until Tuesday: traffic has been considerably lighter this week, I imagine because a lot of the families in this area are taking advantage of one last vacation week. I’ll definitely notice the difference next week. Meh.

Don’t do that!

I always think of Peter and Gordon.

HA! :joy:

Just yesterday I realized that I’m down to having $2 in my wallet: the next time I’m at a grocery store, I’ll get some more cash. I hardly ever use cash, but I’m still more comfortable when I have at least $20 on me.

For the taller one, right?

(I’m here all week! Tip your servers!)
