(OLD) It's Tax Time in the MMP!

Squee!!! That is one cute puppy! I wouldn’t be able to keep my hands off those ears. Skritches from the chilly, windswept prairie.

Me too on this! Yikes! Extra day-drinking is definitely called for, including to wash down a couple ibuprofen for the inevitable aches and pains.

swampy, I’m glad that it was the car that was damaged rather than you! I know how bad those accidents can go. {{{swampy}}}

red, I’m glad Nelson’s new vet seems to be a good 'un. You and Nelson both deserve that.

Doggio, Darci is adorable !!! And she needs extra skritches. I wish I could give her extra skritches, but I’ll have to settle for looking sad and asking you to do so instead. :disappointed_relieved:

wheelie, the project is coming along nicely!

Now this is the Dope I knew 20 years ago… not that I would have done any such thing then or now. walks away, hands clasped behind her back as she whistles

CatGlove, good luck with a good night’s sleep, the cortisone shot and came for Hubs. There are a lot of times I need to use one for my back and it really helps a lot with stability. Have a good time with the out of town friends at brunch this weekend.

I’ve had a really good afternoon. I’ve been sitting outside reading for the last 5 hours or so. (Thank heavens for porch lights!) Is been a good place for me to recharge, which had been absolutely necessary after everything going on.

I messaged with Dad earlier today. Mentally, he said he’s in a better place. Physically, eh. But he’s not sounding like he’ll wish himself gone before Tuesday at least. That makes me feel a bit better. Still steeling myself for when the day comes, but not feeling like it will be any day now.

Tomorrow I get to talk books with middle schoolers. I participate in Project Lit at BtY’s middle school and I love getting to know these kids and seeing what they think of the books we read. Even with BtY moving on to HS next year, I’m planning on continuing to participate. It helps that I’ve become friends with the librarian and she loves me coming around. Plus, I think of it as a way to give back a bit.

I should probably consider getting away from the skeeters and think about sleep but it really is a nice night. Just a few minutes more, I think.

Have a good night, all!

Wheelz, maybe because I sucketh mightily at such things, I’m really enjoying the photos of your progress on the Murphy bed.

This is why my sister calls alcohol “liquid painkiller.”

JtC, you’re a good daughter. I hope you and your mom have many happy adventures ahead.

Darci is such a cutie! Those ears remind me of my old Cinnamon. I wish you many years of companionship,

Somehow I misplaced this thread today, despite pissing away an unholy amount of time on the Dope. Geez y’all are a busy and talkative bunch.

My day was balcony, solo breakfast while Her Ladyship had her Dr. appt, sheveling, leftover Indian for lunch, balcony, walk to casual pizza joint for eggplant rollatini for dinner, old movie on library DVD, and now belated MMP just before bed.

Backstabbed is right. But it’s also evident you dodged a bullet here.

What you actually have is betrayal. Which you can take as lamenting the loss what you (mistakenly it turns out) thought you had, or as anger directed at someone so uncaring as to treat you and hurt you like this. Wallowing in anger is bad. But a bit of it early on helps you to remember who’s the victim and who’s the crook. Yu wuz screwed and that’s no reflection on you or your worth in the world. Take a break to get your heart & mind right again. Then emerge head held high.

I am so sorry he is in constant pain, that is so depressing because sometimes even sleeping hurts. When you can’t sleep you get more depressed.

Has anyone told him how to use a cane? And how to properly size it? I’m only questioning because so often the answer is NO.

I’m not going to do a long lecture about canes unless your answer is also no, but I would be happy to offer up advice if needed.

Mom has good days and bad days. Cherish the good days.

Do you know about Dolly Parton’s free books for kids program? That woman sure does know how to give it back, her Imagination Library has given children over 200,000,000 books.

Eyes tear up. Thank you.

I just noticed once again that @Seanette has not been participating recently and checked her profile. She has been gone for weeks. Has anyone heard anything from her, I am worried.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Darci has discovered she likes Milk-Bones.

Being a gummint employee, I more often than not found work trips to be a pain. When I worked at NADEP Jacksonville, we weren’t allowed to make our own travel arrangements, and I swear, the travel office did their best to screw us as much as possible. They almost always chose flights outside of normal working hours, so we’d have to work all day before leaving, and we didn’t get OT pay. Hotels weren’t always the most convenient, rental cars were always the smallest possible, and heaven help you if you forgot a receipt!! No, you can’t have room service, even if the cost fell within your per diem… At least they didn’t make us share rooms.

I was just on the cusp of falling asleep last night when we heard a gawd-awful clatter from the other end of the house. Like I dummy, I neglected to put on slippers and soon discovered painfully that Ziva had knocked the kibble dispenser on the floor and there were little kibbles all over the place. They hurt almost as much as Legos!

Anyway, I got my specs and my slippers and a broom. Fortunately. much of the spillage was on a throw rug that I was able to semi-roll and empty into the trash. Then I swept up the rest, refilled and replaced the dispenser, and went back to bed where it took over an hour to get back to sleep mode. Stoopit feline!

My chore for today (after we go out for breakfast) will be painting the anchor chain. Actually, I’ll be painting a few links every 20’ so we can have a good estimate of how much chain we let out. I don’t expect it to take more than an hour or so, which means I’ll have to find something else to amuse myself - maybe stripping more teak?

I didn’t mention, but all this boat work has given me the start on a glorious farmer’s tan! My forearms are getting brown, but biceps and shoulders are rather sickly white. Which means I need to remember sunscreen when I don my first tank top of the season. I do tend to burn pretty easily.

OK, caffeination continues till I hear FCD get in the shower. Then it will be my turn.

Happy Firday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 9c/48f with a predicted high of 13c/56f with rain showers. Weather app declares it to be a day of “Rain and fucking sadness” which may be partly true since it’s been raining all morning, but we’re not sad 'cos it’s Friday!

JtC you’re right, Seanette hasn’t posted here for a while - perhaps a mumper who is also friends on farcebook could check on there and see if she or Bob posted recently?

doggio Love the pics of Darci, she looks so sweet! I hope she and Scaredy Cat get to be friends soon.

GodBod sorry to hear things didn’t work out, I know you are quite young (compared to a lot of us old farts!) and it is small consolation, but it takes most of us a long while to find The One. Several times you might think you have them, then something goes wrong and you realise you have to move on. It is not much of a comfort to know that it’s going to happen more than once, you should take some time for yourself and give yourself a little time to get over it, then move on.

Yesterday’s commute home was a proper 'mare due to broken down trains, delays, cancellations and then trespassers on the line. The universe did not play fair, and I had to call the vets from one station to reschedule Shadow’s appointment because there was no way I’d make it on time. In the end, I got to my front door five minutes after I should have been at the vets.

Luckily they had a later appointment so we made it to that one, and in the short drive up there, Shadow managed a majestically smelly poo in his carrier. The vet was happy to confirm from the evidence that there’s nothing wrong with his bowels! He was less complainy when she wanted to look in his mouth, and given both his age and the fact he’s got a heart murmur, she wasn’t keen on the idea of a full anaesthetic dental treatment so we’re continuing with Loxicom to keep him comfortable. She thinks the heart issues will be what takes him, long before anything else, unless his kidneys pack in. We will be going back in 3 months for a blood test to check that, and then see what else he might need. He’s doing pretty well for a geriatric

Mornin’ folks. Up, coffee successfully made and goin down smoothly while I enjoy a purty soon-to-be-sunrise on the balcony. The mourning doves are cooing, traffic noise is not yet beastly and a nice day beckons.

Today is day 1 of three irk on-call days. I shall almost certainly skate today, although tomorrow is lookin’ iffy already. My list of big plans for the day include eating & slothage, perchance to nap.

I have a bit of non-urgent financial paperwork to fiddle with, and really ought to begin reading up on the latest changes in SS & Medicare options. I expect summer at irk will be busy & chaotic so Apr & May are the months to get smart & prep the plans to execute in late summer. And I’ve so far successfully filibustered through most of Apr. See, I am good at something!

FCM what/where is breakfast out? Someplace with local color I hope, not just Denny’s #2351.

As a long-time pet owner and parent you should know that loud clatter = spilled or broken stuff. If there ever was a situation calling for shoes / slippers, responding to loud clatters is it.

Although I’m not understanding the desire to clean it up at 0-dark-thirty once you know what it is. Since it’s a dispenser the cats had access to the food whether spilled or not. They can bloody well eat what they spilled, or starve if they’re too damned prissy to eat from the floor, until morning. “They made it, they bought it” is my attitude to the mess. Next morning I might activate the Roomba in the kitchen to clean the kibble and lock the offending cat(s) in the kitchen with it as negative reinforcement. Even if I’m manually vacuuming, the cat(s) will share in the noisy fun.

She was reading here as recently as 3 days ago. She hasn’t posted in 18 days. So evidently she’s still around. I don’t recall if she had any impending disasters we already knew about that might explain her being able to read but too pooped to post.

Best of luck to all on your Firday & my Moanday.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’
*YAWN * ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I am sore(ish) so will spend the day bein’ my usual slothful self. Day drinkin’ and ibuprofen sounds like a good plan. OYKW wants fried chikin so he will go get us dinners from the Pubic Sto’ probably for N.O.L. That will take care of the main need to feed for the day. Plus I have medicinal chawklit.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 43 degrees, dark and cloudy outside. The expected high is around 53, and it will remain cloudy all day.

swampy, I’m glad you weren’t hurt.

doggio, Darci is just adorable. I want to skritch those ears!

I’m not looking forward to the work trip because so many loose ends need following up, and it’s hard to do that while traveling. There is also all the usual work that must be taken care of. On top of that, it’s a group of us traveling together in three different vehicles, which is unwieldy. Usually, I like connecting with our partners, but I am so stressed about these loose ends and sweeping up after everybody that I can’t concentrate on the good stuff. Also, I prefer traveling alone or with one person in the car most. Finally, the DSD likes trip reports. I don’t have time for that BS. I just…DON’T. Christ on a cracker!

The week continues to be stressful, and I’m supposed to be off today. Additionally, I have a critical loose end to follow up on, so I need to keep after that. I can use my work cell for that, but I also need to run some errands today, so I can take care of the usual weekend clean-up on Saturday/Sunday and be ready for the trip on Monday.

I hope @Seanette is okay.

kitten mitten, I am sorry your husband is hurting so much. I hope the shot helps.

Okay, need to get my day going. Everyone take care.

Morning all. The first day of my 71st trip around the sun will be fairly busy, the fence folks are coming to replace the side fence that blew down (and that the absentee neighbors tacked back up) and the water mitigation people are due sometime today for the wet floors and mold issues, so hopefully that will get done.

Insurance offered a settlement today and I’ll probably go ahead and accept it, it includes the deductible so it doesn’t cover everything but it puts a nice dent in it. Once everything is done I’ll look again and see if there is anything else worth claiming.

Seanette’s Facebook is active with husband Bob posting there as recently as 14 April, so she’s probably just taking some time off.

boo fae, glad Shadow is doing as well as can be expected.

FCM, most of the times I was able to contribute to my travel arrangements, as long as it was in per diem for the area and I flew the cheapo ‘government’ fare. Hope the feet feel better.

Real Fish, good on ya for volunteering with the kids for reading discussions. Wonder if the schools here have something similar (makes note to check).

Cat Glove, hope the shot helps Hubs. And enjoy the fancy bruching!

OK, need to open the garage doors and await the working folks arrival. All y’all take care.

I checked her last 6 weeks of posting in all threads and no hint of any impending problems, vacations, incoming family visits, or other distractions good or bad.

Yep! When my two were little, we got them every month. We ended up with a lot of duplicates, but we just passed those on to others. I loved that both kids’ last book was "Get Ready for Kindergarten " (or something similar). Dolly is a treasure and I’m never surprised when I hear she has done something generous.

Definitely check it out! Most school librarians are happy to have community members come in to participate. I can check with my librarian friend to see if there’s a general location you can check to see if a school does Project Lit.

Off to ready for the day!

That’s just one reason why she’s considered the patron saint of Tennessee. She also contributed $1M to develop Moderna’s covid-19 vaccine.

What metal mouse said about seanette. I’m wondering if she’s found another job and is adjusting to working life.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels / grocery bags in the dryer, a load of jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. I’ll get started on houseirk once KP is done. Other than that, I’ll drop off the recycling on the way to Lowe’s and putter around on the patio. Sis and BIL will likely not be in until after 2100, so it’s another normal Friday at CasaRoja.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Swampy totally managed to miss the fact that you and Twuck had a bump! I hope you’re not too battered and that OYKW is taking appropriate care of you - slothage and day drinking combined with ibuprofen sounds like a good way to carry on.

It’s Friday, and this morning I did a subdued ‘Kermit the Frog’ impression, waving my arms and saying ‘It’s Friday! Yaaaaaay!’ It made me thing of ‘Finally Friday’. That made me think of weekday names. Here are the names I learned in the late-'80s/early-'90s on KROQ:

Humday Monday
Titillating Tuesday
Humpday
Champagne Thursday (that was their payday)
Finally Friday

I tuned into KROQ when I went to SoCal last month. The music is still good.

Short heave, but there were doughnuts. I gave Darci her pain meds and took her for a walk. She peed. A lot. And she seems to enjoy walks, as long as I carry her to the door.(She doesn’t seem to want to move off her towel. The floor is lava, maybe?)

I can hear the thoughts of The Invisible Mole People - Darci

“If you fill the tube with BBs, you can drop an evildoer without leaving any marks.”

Aloof Feral Boy and Scaredy Pup? that might require duct tape.
