(OLD) It's Tax Time in the MMP!

G’morning, kids!

We got smacked with another round of snow up here, it hit while I was making my four-hour drive back from my conference. It didn’t come down thick enough to impair driving, for which I was thankful, but this morning it had built up enough that they called a two-hour late start to work. So I got to sleep in a bit and have a leisurely morning, but driving in was a little hairy.

Conference was cool! Undergrads at various Tribal Colleges presenting some really badass STEM research. My goal was to evaluate the information resources they were using. Turns out that it’s a lot of Google Scholar, which is… Not great? But useful info for me all the same.

My conference for next week, the one they wanted me to speak at, has been postponed 'till Fall. Not crying about that, it was a little more traveling than I really wanted to be doing in such a short span.

KROQ! I used to bounce between KROQ and KLOS when I was driving around on mortuary business six or seven years ago.

I grew up out there and used to listen to both of those.

What’s funny is that just now, with your post, I realized for the first time that the callsign KLOS contains “LOS” as in “Los Angeles”. I bet they picked those letters for that reason. D’oh!

In fairness, back in the day we never ever saw the call letters written out; just heard them over the radio. Kay-Ell-Oh-Ess doesn’t immediately scream “Los like in Los Angeles, people!” Or at least it didn’t to this member of the people.

Holy crap, Pilot. I never realized that either. o_o

Nah, they’re currently off to the side and pretty much out of the way. My plan is to get the bed enclosure assembled and firmly attached to the wall. Then I can add the cabinets after I’m satisfied with the bed part.

If I had it to do over, I’d have left the side cabinets in their boxes and tackle the bed itself first. But once I unboxed everything, it made sense to get the cabinets assembled and thus all those loose parts out of the way.

I had an omelette sandwich for breakfast: 1 egg scrambled with cream, salt, & pepper, cooked in a 10-inch frying pan. When it was set, I put two slices of American cheese in the middle and then folded the edges around them. Let it melt while the bread toasts and gets ‘buttered’. It’s a lot less messy than a scrambled egg sandwich. And a glass of psyllium husks.

Speaking of ‘buttered’, I use butter for cooking. For spread, we use Smart Balance margarine. Two problems with it: The local markets stopped carrying the Omega-3 version (which we like better than the original version), and they’re charging seven and a half bucks per tub. :astonished: I went to Fred Meyer in Bellingham recently, and they did have the Omega-3 Smart Balance, and it was about $3 cheaper than what the local stores charge for the original. I bought six of them. When those run out, I’ll make the drive to Bellingham.

We went to a local cafe in Leonardtown, but boy, howdy, have they gotten $$$. With tip, our breakfast was over $40! We used to be able to eat there for under $25. And the food isn’t all that great. The diner we really like, tho, is about 30 minutes away in the opposite direction of the marina, so we didn’t go there. Dammit.

I was up. I had to do it, else I wouldn’t have slept. Plus I’d have had to clean it up in the morning before letting the dog out, since she’s a pig of a pug. But you have a point about the slippers.

We’re home (duh) after a short morning at the boatyard. FCD was really hurting - he’d let his gabapentin scrip lapse and it took 3 days to get the Dr to renew it. But we picked it up on the way home, so he should be good soon.

Progress on the bow thruster, but no propellers yet:

And here’s what I did today:

Each red link = 20’, so 120’ of marked chain, plus another 15’ before it attaches to an anchor line. Not that we’ll ever need that much, even at a 5:1 scope. We don’t anchor in deep water.

My next chore is pricing all my crocheted stuff for tomorrow’s sale. We already put the tent in the truck - I plan to leave NLT 7:30 tomorrow. Fingers crossed for no rain till after 3!!!

Your paint job on the anchor chain almost looks like it was fun. Thanks for the pictures-helped me visualize it.

Fun isn’t a word I’d have used. Nope, not. I will say I’m glad I word gloves, else I’d still be cleaning Rustoleum off my hands!

Today is load the truck for delivery and installation, so naturally it is hottest day of the year so far at 85 ferret height. Much more than that inside the truck. We had to get creative with the packing. Ah the joys of truck tetris.

Is lunch break now, I has a tired.

Cross posting from the “hobbies” thread to humble-brag to the Mumpers: my spiral is finally done!

Very nice, shoe!

Howdy Y’all! Much sloth, even more so than usual, has ensued. Fried chikin, nappage, ibuprofen, and day drinkin’ along with medicinal chawklit have made me feel much better. Who knows, maybe I can even milk this for an additional day! Thanks for all the well wishes.

That is a damn fine spiral there shoe.

Yaay medicinal chocolate. I just finished a medicinal coconut hard caramel.

Took a walk to Walgreens to pick up a prescription. About 30 minutes each way at the peak of noon. Was a bit warm but felt good to very cold-blooded me. Her Ladyship is more prone to overheat and was about done with outdoors by the time we got back.

The gasoline supply situation in SoFL has gotten worse, not better. Color me confused. Fortunately driving isn’t really necessary for us much.

Have Fri dinner reservations for a swanky fish/seafood joint here in the neighborhood. Considering the menu now.

Afternoon all. Well, the ‘mitigators’ were here and between ripping out most of my carpet padding and then putting in blowers and moving furniture, it was a couple of interesting hours. The bad news is that the blowers need to stay on for THREE DAYS, and they are quite noisy. So I’ve booked a local hotel room for sleeping and will commute from house to hotel until Moanday. Then 2sday the guy for fixing the baseboard and wall will be here, and the carpet people are due Thorsday to replace the padding and re-stretch the carpet. So maybe by this time next week things will be back to normal, at least inside the house.

As for the fence, nobody showed by noon so I called the office and they didn;t know anything, so I sent them an e-mail cancelling the service and asking for my deposit back. We’ll see how that goes. I’m pretty sure the fence will not survive the next big storm, but I’ll deal with that when it happens, I have had it with this fence company.

shoe, lovely work.

VanGo, understand the tired. And truck tetris is a wonderful concept.

FCM, so you were heavily into chains, I see…

Niner, should be against the laws of nature to have snow after April 15th, IMHO. Glad the conference was fun.

Flyboy, I learned the weekday names here from swampy; there’s Moanday, 2sday, Humpday, Thorsday, Firday, Sattiday and Sunday.

OK, need to go to the gym and get some of the frustration burned off, then grab the hotel key and decide what to take with me–not much, since I’m only a 10-minute drive to my (not so quiet) house. Take care all.

Just got back from my walk, so I’m all schweahehehehety.

Due to circumstances within my control (teaching teens), I got way too familiar with this song, which they thought was (unintentionally) funny and so played nonstop for 2 weeks. It’s widely regarded as the worst song ever recorded. (The star was a sweet middle school student whose parents paid to have the video made for her birthday.) Here’s a sample of the lyrics so you don’t have to watch the whole thing–not that you could stand it that long:

Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday.
Today it’s Friday, Friday…
Tomorrow is Saturday
and Sunday comes afterward.

Life-changing, no?

It sounds like Seanette is OK. I miss her and hope she returns to the MMP soon.

She really is a saint. Who doesn’t love Dolly Parton?

BooFae, here’s hoping Shadow is around and comfortable for some time to come. I don’t envy you that clean-up, however.

Taters, working hard, then making a business trip, then working hard again is a recipe for exhaustion. I hope you get a chance to rest up at some point.

My school district did. I managed to get a solo room sometimes by claiming I snored, which I really only did now and then. Usually, though, we had to share.

Also, FCM, I’m looking forward to the re-launching (Is that the word?) of the boat. Hopefully you’ll have a long stretch with only minimal maintenance so you and FCD can really enjoy it.

shoe, I’m impressed with the spiral…trippy and beautiful.

swampy, sending gentle hugs and hopes that chocolate, day-drinking, and rest do the trick.

Has anyone told him how to use a cane? And how to properly size it?
[/quot.e]
Thanks for asking (and caring). Yes, our Physical Therapist is one of the very best. He gave Hubs a tutorial at the appt on Tuesday and had him practice with one in his office.
Hoping that the pain abates soon; he received the cortisone shot at 8:30am. The Doc indicated that as a steroid, it might take 2 to 3 days for it to take effect.
Stopped at one of the brunch places to investigate. As a Christian, I don’t know much about Islam. Turns out Ramadan was over last night so today is a big celebration of the fasting being over. So, the brunch place was packed to the gills and we were told they weren’t taking any walk-ins. So, we perused the menu and it looks very good. I went over to the pastries showcase and purchased a blueberry cream cheese turnover and a pistachio with raspberries covered pastry. We made a reservation for Sunday.

Hubs had a hankering for tunafish so I diced red onion, celery and red bell pepper into the tuna, seasoned with Mrs. Dash and freshly ground pepper, then mixed all with olive oil mayo. Our daughter requested Dave’s Killer Bread (DKB) when she was here so used that to make the sandwiches, along with lettuce. The DKB is quite healthy but very expensive. It’s on sale this week so I’m going to get a loaf and freeze it for the next time she’s here.

I’m sorry they didn’t let you use your per diem for whatever you wanted. Back in the day, a long long time ago, we got $25 for dinner. When I went for training to Cleveland, I first flew home and borrowed a big boat of a car from my Dad. Normally, the fellas just stayed in the hotel the whole week. Not my style. I feel that you can’t wait for fun and excitement to come to you; you have to go out and find it. So, I loaded up the car with about 10 people one evening. We had MickeyD’s for dinner for about $2 then had $23 to go to the racetrack with. You better believe that each of us claimed a $25 dinner that evening. I only had $18 to bet with as I had to pay the $5 fee for parking but I won on several races so I ended up coming back to the hotel with some money which I used the next night to play some kind of weird poker with the guys. I’d never played much and not that particular game and I ended up winning $40 from them; back in the late '70’s that was a lot.

Going to the Fitness Center now but have to take a roundabout way since the main road, Michigan Ave which is 4 lanes, is currently down to 2 lanes eastbound and 1 lane westbound between the east and west portion of town; hope it doesn’t take them all summer like it did last year when they did the area just west of the area they’re resurfacing this year. I live in the west and the Fitness Center is in the east. So, I’ll just go a mile north then east and then south; will reverse on the way home. It will be a lot less headache and quicker than the normal route. Will make meatloaf with the leftover ground angus from last night. Will have to go Krogering after dinner; it’s Friday so 4 times fuel points.

See you later.

Can someone tell me what N.O.S. and N.O.L. stand for? TIA

But was it ever used for torture?

NOS: Not Our Sunny. NOL: Not Our Lunch. Both are references to usernames of people who have posted in the MMP threads.

I’d argue that every time “It’s Friday” played, it was torture. I’d rather listen to that catchy “Easy Street” song. I’ve never seen The Walking Dead, so I’m guessing a chipper, upbeat song was torture to whoever this Daryl was?
