Very nice, thank you. Keep us posted on your progress!
Well crap. Whoever started this thread neglected to tell the mods to put an [Old] on the title of last week’s thread. So I replied there this evening, while being a bit confused that only two folks have posted all of today. Oops.
The fact I have good no idea what day of the week it is and haven’t since I graduated college mumble years ago doesn’t help.
Anyhow, here’s my post for this evening, and I have asked the mods to update the title in the old thread:
As to the posts above in this thread:
@nelliebly very glad to hear your entire retina has not detached and fallen on the floor; I was mightily worried for you.
As to:
As days go, it was pretty typical. Like a duck, massive and occasionally frantic paddling below the waterline is necessary to give the appearance of serene progress above the waterline. Y’all are the beneficiaries of far more paddling than you know.
To answer your specific question …
If we’re at the gate, no. Once having moved or moving, yes. Lotta ways that can be perverse for us, customers, or our employer.
As to taxes:
A chunk-o-change will depart my checking account on Tues to make up for certain shortfalls in our withholding in 2022. Ouch. The three returns I had to file for 2022 were done in late Feb with the walletectomy scheduled for the last possible day.
This is made to order for married filing seperately rather than married filing jointly. You are (probably) getting screwed year in and year out for his convenience here.
Yes, that is my understanding as well. This year it would really hurt them financially to file separately, so that’s fine. I care about them and do not want to torpedo their stability so that I can save a few bucks. Next year we will most likely file separately, and then after that it should be moot.
I hate all of this so much.
Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and the girls and I got a pretty good workout on a perfect late afternoon (sunshine, 71F, a little breeze but not too much). Have now finished off the Jersey Mike’s sub from this afternoon’s shopping trip and sloth will be the primary mission of the evening.
Wheelie, that’s a lot of work ahead. Take your time and hope it looks just like the picture when it’s finished.
Cat Glove, sounds like you had a productive day.
Hippie, geese are not to be trifled with. Glad you and the Missus are fine.
Shoe, a little gorging and sleeping are good for a person now and then.
nellie, they just kept putting me off, saying the boss wasn’t in and then he had to examine the workload and stuff like that. If they didn’t do quality work I’d have cancelled the job. And at least you know why your eye is givning you trouble; hope the treatment works.
Are you sure you were dreaming???
red, good news on the Nelson teeth cleaning. And I pronounce it Lou-e-ville.
Sari, hope Echo resigns himself to the pill-taking regime before you strangle him…and concur with the IRS extension and opinion.
Flyboy, I wanted to comment on that article but I was cut short…I’ll get me coat…
OK, it’s after 8pm, so need to finish up my internettin’ for the day and head off to bed at an early hour so I can be up bright and early for the plumbers. Take care all.
Fried chicken, tacos, beans, and a nap. Add some sex and you have the makings of my idea of a perfect day.
flyboy, you know what “they” say: The family that beheads together, … hell, I have no idea what they say, since their mouths and lungs are now in separate baskets. At least they did it together, which is touching in a grisly sort of way.
And how does this help or hurt you? If its an unhappy ex-, I might gladly spend $10k to cost them 10 cents.
If it’s costing your $2K to save them $200, permit me to remind you that you’re being played for a sucker. A sucker they view with abject contempt for your evident gullibility.
I get these shooting pains in my eye. I try to be stoic, but sometimes I kind of jump and grimace. People in the waiting room were giving me the stink eye. Maybe they thought I was wearing a thong and giving myself a wedgie.
I’ve wondered this for a long time. All hell could be breaking loose outside, and the plane has three dead engines, and STILL the captain sounds like a stoned Matthew McConaughey. Do you have to practice sounding so calm?
This reminds me of the time a treatment gave me a mild chemical burn on my cornea, and I had to wear an eyepatch. I explained the situation to my students, and one kid said hopefully. “Will your eyeball pop out?” It reminded me of my dd’s favorite joke:
What did the schoolteacher say when her glass eye fell out and rolled across the desk? A: "Oh! There goes one of my pupils! "
OK, eyes are tearing. Time for a break,
The vast majority of our paddling has to do with the mundanities of making our real-time artisanal product look seamless and ordinary mass-production to a clueless customer base. So not so exciting as all that from our POV. Just one more broken pizza oven, or lost grant application, or mis-formatted TPS report or whatever.
When shit gets real, which it exceedingly rarely does, we still live in the space of “problems incoming, problems solved, problems upcoming.” Which doesn’t naturally lend itself to too much excitement.

The fact I have good no idea what day of the week it is and haven’t
Pick your favorite comic strip to follow. I’m a big fan of Non-Sequitur. Pin the website to your favorites on your phone or tablet and check it every day. On Sundays you will get a full panel comic. That means you need to look for a new MMP the next morning.
I forgot that our housekeeper was coming tomorrow, so I need to do stuff to get ready for her. (We do the easy stuff so we only have to pay her for the hard stuff.) She’d made all sorts of reservations for cheap cruises before she got so sick on the last one. She didn’t want to go on this one but it was non-refundable because it was so cheap…so she went and had a good time and didn’t get sick.
We missed her and if I had remembered, I would have made her some cottage cheese as a welcome home present.
My friend who had the potluck has realized that she might have made too much pulled poke and texted me asking if I would like some. Sure says I, but can I pick it up tomorrow because I am in the middle of laundry? Nope, I’m bringing it over now! Translation: I wanna get this stuff out of my fridge!!!
Not only did she bring us a big tub of pulled poke, she gave us a bottle of BBQ sauce and a package of buns as well. Sneaky bitch! We will give it all to our housekeeper, she has her son, dil and grandkids living with her. They eat anything.
We will be going to the dispensary today so will stop at Table Mesa Rd and take more pics of the bloom. It will be fabulous.

She works for a liquor distributor, and she and several colleagues will be visiting a few of their bourbon partners (including tastings). I think she’ll enjoy the trip!
It definitely sounds like she will!
metal mouse, it was a great dinner with a lot of catching up. We sat around talking for about 2.5 hours and could have talked 2.5 more. But the kids were getting antsy (primarily BtY and their daughter who is 9).

What I am trying to say is check for local house cleaners and you might find that you already have enough money to afford one.
I should look into it. It’s something I’ve been wanting to look at for awhile but it’s always seemed so cost prohibitive. I hadn’t really thought of a local cleaner.
red, I hope you like the vet’s office. They definitely sound a lot more reasonably priced than your current vet.

That’s what happens when you’re a fish, and not a former feral cat.
Good point. It’s probably too late for me to magically turn from a fish to a former feral cat…

He’s guarding you from the Hounds of Tindalos.
This cracked me up more than it probably should have.
nellie, I’m so glad that your retina is OK! I’m sorry about the optometrist appointment was canceled. I’ve had similar things happen with my (very popular) GYN and it’s been frustrating. Regarding CtE, I’m honestly not sure if it was actual illness or anxiety. They weren’t sick once they got home, though they did sleep for quite awhile. As for their schoolwork, they’re quite a bit behind, but a large part of that is due to them not being able to see when they lost their glasses at Universal last month. Luckily, their teachers are incredibly understanding and give them extra time to get the work done. We’re starting to get into the state testing period, so that’s giving the juniors (who don’t have a lot of testing to do) extra time to make up work.
Cat Glove, I’m glad they waves your deductible. One less thing for you to worry about!
I should have been asleep a few hours ago but between replying to this and MFN calling before he started his shift, it’s a little later than I’d planned. Luckily, I don’t need to be up too early tomorrow so as long as my body cooperates, I should end up well rested. All in all, I’ve had a pretty great day. And now, if I’m lucky, I’ll have a pretty great night with no strange dreams. Hope everyone else can say the same!

It’s something I’ve been wanting to look at for awhile but it’s always seemed so cost prohibitive.
I always thought we couldn’t afford it until we started paying someone to do our floors and dust the ceiling fans. She is a professional, she does a better job in a couple of hours than I used to do using an entire precious weekend day.
I did have to fire her from wiping my desk down because she would do such unforgivable things as put all of my pens and pencils in my pen cup instead of leaving them where I was used to reaching for them as well as putting all of my papers in a tidy pile.
She doesn’t go into the brewing room because we told her to leave it alone, and she uses what we give her to clean so we don’t have to worry about GG splashing in chemical water.
20 bucks an hour and she busts her butt to get finished and do her other houses.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Spot has graduated to “walking up to the primate, staring at it dubiously, and going back to the hiding place”, “knocking over the stuffed penguins” and sleeping on my bed.

She works for a liquor distributor, and she and several colleagues will be visiting a few of their bourbon partners (including tastings). I think she’ll enjoy the trip!
Does she need an assistant for the trip?

The finished product, if all goes to plan, will look like this:
Looks like it will be cool.

Except Darci is a Sheppard,
I assume you mean shepherd? That’s one misspelling that makes me especially stabby. Kindly mend your errant ways!
Alas, I was too optimistic about Taz - he had another seizure yesterday. But I used the checklist that sari gave me and I feel like keeping on as we are is the correct choice for now. I truly don’t think he’s in any pain - he’s just old and confused and frequently underfoot (I stepped on him the other day - not hard, but he wasn’t happy.) I know it’s close, but I don’t think it’s time yet.
Speaking of stepping the wrong place, I woke in the wee dark hours to, um, wee, and I managed to kick the leg of a chair, leaving me with two sore toes. Dammit. I can usually navigate the path between the shoe rack/bench and the wooden chair without problems, but last night, I swerved too much to the right. Dammit. Our bedroom was designed for the mid-70s standard of a double bed, not a king - consequently, it’s a tad crowded in there.
Speaking of our house, boy, is Redfin stoopit! I got an email yesterday saying a house like < our address > sold - I guess to convince us to sell our house. Out of curiosity, I clicked the link. Bear in mind, we have a ranch house built in 1975 sitting on a 3-acre lot. The house in the email is a just built townhome in an HOA community 15 miles away from us - it’s in my daughter’s area, so I know the community well. A 3-acre lot there probably has 15 houses on it! So, no, Redfin, you’re wrong! But if that thing sold for $405K, I figure we could get a few bucks more, not that we’re looking to sell.
It’s a chilly morning - mid 40s, but projected to hit 70 this afternoon, with lots of wind. So when I fetch Roxy, we’ll go to the green playground next to her mama’s school. That will get me home a bit earlier than when I wait at their house. And while Tobester is here, I need to run the rollsuck in the basement (I’m sure the partyers dropped crumbs) and move all the stuff out of the studio and back to where it all belongs. So I have that to look forward to.
But for now, I have about an hour to kill before SIL brings me my charge. Speaking of whom, SIL will be going back to PT for his knee before they consider possible surgery. He’s been messing with/messing up his knee for many years - he’s too young for it to be so messed up, but then he’s done some dumb stuff over the years…
Anyway, Happy Tuesday!!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 12c/54f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and partly cloudy. That explains why it’s sunny out there. Weather app says “Yet another fucking shitty day” so clearly hasn’t looked outside yet. I did venture out to haul the biiiiiiig recycling bin back off the pavement after the binmen had rung the Bells of Bacchus.
Nothing exciting going on here today, I have irked all morning and already had two meetings. I am waiting for a bunch of things to happen so I can progress some tasks but there’s a bunch of other things I need to be doing too.
I think I’ll start by making another cup of tea!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. *YAWN * ‘Tis 42 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and N.O.S. for the day. It’s laundry day. I can hardly contain myself. Sup shall be tacos and fixin’s with rice and beans. Fart fest to follow.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry awaits! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Morning all. Up early (can never sleep when something is due to happen in the morning), have moved furniture and my car in anticipation of the plumbers coming out early, I expect it to be a 2-day action, today to find and fix the leak, tomorrow to do the patching. Also need to contact the carpet people, at minimum I’ll need someone to re-attach/replace the padding once they’re done. Ah the joys of home ownership. At least the day is supposed to be nice; no rain and near 80F.
FCM, OUCH!! Have done that to my toes at times and uttered many bad words. And just got my yearly appraisal from the Tax Assessors office, says the fair market value of my place is $234,300…which is considerably more than I paid for it in 1997. There are times I am sorely tempted…

People in the waiting room were giving me the stink eye. Maybe they thought I was wearing a thong and giving myself a wedgie.
I have to admit, that made me grin much more than I should have.
OK, probably need to turn on the water for a bit and do the morning bathroom chores before company comes calling. All y’all take care.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 41 degrees and raining outside. I know it’s raining because I heard it hitting the window next to me. The expected high is 49, and the rain will continue off and on throughout the day.
Spring is taking its sweet***** time getting here. I guess this is typical spring weather; it just seems cooler and wetter than usual. I usually have the heat in the house turned off by now. I’m watching the mountain passes because this weather will probably continue next week, with a brief respite (possibly) over the weekend. I will over Stevens Pass on Tuesday on my way to Wenatchee. From Wenatchee, I’ll drive to Yakima on Wednesday and over White Pass on Thursday on my way home. I don’t think we’ll get much snow accumulation in the passes, but they expect some.
nellie, I’m so glad your retina is not detached.
I filed my taxes in February and grumpily paid. Seriously, they already remove taxes from any income, there is no need to file, and yes, I know it’s because of the tax preparation lobby. After I paid my taxes, I upped my withholding for my TSP, which kills me, because I will pay taxes on that when I start collecting during my retirement.
metal mouse, I sure hope they find the leak and can fix it stat.
I was very busy yesterday and couldn’t catch a break. At least I’m working from home today. Tomorrow, it’s another in-office day, AND I have to stop and pick up salad ingredients on my way in. The management team is hosting a lunch for the staff, and since the SD is paying for pizza, I volunteered to bring in a salad. I’ll just make a big tossed salad with lots of colorful and crunchy veggies. The rest team volunteered to bring in drinks.
I have an incredibly busy day ahead of me and have to resolve or make progress on four issues within the first couple hours of my workday. Fun times. I like the problems incoming, problems solved, and problems upcoming thing. That is pretty much my day all day, every day.
G’morning, kids.
Taxes got taken care of - I’ll have to scrape together $500 or so, but there’s not any urgency. We’re set up with a payment plan and suchlike. My ex and I are kind to eachother and care about eachother, but this interaction just kind of cemented that things are well and truly over. Time to start figuring out divorce, I guess. Wheeee.
Today I’ll just be squaring things up with some email correspondences and trying to get ahead on my schoolwork since I’ll be occupado tomorrow and Thursday - four hour drive to scenic Bismarck North Dakota for a research symposium, stay overnight, then the second half and the drive back on Thursday. The nice thing is that the mileage and per diem are solidly more than I will spend on gas and meals, so I should be able to squirrel a little away to help with the aforementioned tax obligation.
While I’m not exactly thrilled about 8 hours in the car over the next two days, I am cautiously looking forward to a slight change of scenery and - I was about to say “getting out of my head for a bit,” but long-ass car rides are prime brooding opportunities, so that doesn’t really track. Oh well.
Taters, you are very much my opposite - I like when everything is under control. A “putting out fires” kind of job is my worst nightmare!
Which is why, unlike swampy, I like laundry day. I get to make everything clean and tidy. I’m the kind of weirdo that enjoys knowing exactly where all of her socks are.
Just finished rollsucking the basement. There’s a lot of stuff to return to Daughter - they left much behind. But it’s almost back to normal.
Laundry just finished washing, so dryer time! So much excitement…
And of course I found a dirty sock on the floor when the load was done.
