It’s currently 47 degrees, with an expected high of 55. The day will contain rain or rain showers and cloudy skies. The weather is kind of sucktastic for an Easter egg hunt, but the grandkids will enjoy it.
We must be at the kids’ place by 11:30 or noon, so I must make my salad beforehand. I also need to stop at the dang store because I forgot to get gift bags or something to wrap up the outfits I bought for the grandkids. This will probably be the day I have a heck of a time getting the mister out of bed so we can depart on time.
I was pretty successful in finding some nice outfits for the grandkids and found them relatively quickly. I left the mall, went to the grocery store to pick up salad fixings and other things, and was home before noon. But, of course, things went too smoothly, and now I need to return and pick up gift bags or wraps. I hoped I had one or two here but I couldn’t find any. Oh well, I’m grateful the trip to the store mall went quickly.
nellie, I’m sorry you became ill. I hope you’re feeling 100% today.
We had our own little plumbing minor flood problem the other day. My husband used the powder room and went into the den after. Sitting in the great room, I heard what sounded like trickling water. Occasionally, a link of the chain in the toilet assembly gets caught under the rubber flapper in the tank, so I got up to wiggle the toilet handle. I was treated with a flooded powder room, water running into the heater vent and creeping onto the hallway carpet. I had to turn off the water, and the husband quickly plunged the mercifully clean water so it went back down the toilet. However, I had clean up all that water, and it took several towels plus the mop. In all the years I’ve lived here, and through several toilet innard replacements, I’ve never had the toilet flood like that. Ironically, the water company was out on Wednesday, replacing our water meter. Of course, since he turned off the water, there was air in the lines, but I followed instructions and ran the water in both the bathtubs for several minutes to clear out any air. Seems weird that the toilet flooded the next day. Now, I’m leery of the powder room toilet and constantly listening to make sure the toilet isn’t running. It’s all very annoying.
Happy Birthday to GG!
Well, I should finish my coffee, eat my yogurt and get on with the day. It promises to be busy. I feel bad about leaving Polar alone, but the kids have cats, and getting Polar in and out of vehicles is now quite a chore and stressful for him.
I am a mere Heathen, but I think Palm Sunday was last week. Or are you mocking flyboy for have had his Easter feast last Sunday? Or do certain denominations do everything offset by a week from the mainstream?
Or are you just trolling (in the fishing sense, not the jerkface sense) for Heathens, hoping to whoosh one?
We didn’t have the Easter feast last week; just pork chops. I did get the day mixed up though. Total cerebral flatulence on my part. I’m baking a ham today.
Pretty easy. There were eight (I think) long screws, but it was mostly put together with cam-locks. All of the holes for the cam-locks, dowels, and screws were pre-drilled. The IKEA-style instructions (pictures) are a little small, but clear. The back is flimsy, like they are on all shelving units, but it’s held on my dozens of screws instead of tiny nails. No smashing fingers, easy to put in with my drill-and-screwdriver bit, and I’m guessing it makes the unit more sturdy. The only nails are on the six nylon ‘feet’.
Now, it is particle board. I proceeded slowly and methodically, especially in the first step (attaching the dividers to the base) so as not to break it. I was very careful not to put any lateral force on anything during construction. That said, I was able to assemble it without any assistance.
The hardest part was getting the 90-pound box into the living room, and disposing of the box, styrofoam, and other packing materials. Which reminds me… Today is Trash & Recycling Day. (Well, tomorrow is, but I put them out every other Sunday.)
That explains how he can afford to live by the Bird Hills.
[/quote]tion
I don’t know what the Bird Hills are. He lives in a simple apartment overlooking a path to a nature preserve. He’s still a resident so there are no big bucks, only big loans hanging over them after 13 years of education.
My grandfather said that to me every day when I was visiting. He’s been gone for 17 years. Thanks for the good memory.
oopsie, Bailey’s a sweetie. I enjoy the pet photos that people are willing to share here in mumperland.
Real Fish, as another Pisces I’m sometimes feel like I’m the fake fish, now that the real one has turned up, even though my user name has nothing to do with my birthdate.
Congrats on taking the jump to another color. I know how much a shock it can be when I get a hair cut - it always takes a few days to get use to the new look in the mirror. Hope it grows on you - it’s a cute color.
Yesterday hubby’s band played at a birthday party, so we were busy from 2 pm until we got home at 2 am. Getting a bit old to do all that, but we had fun. Just unloaded the truck at the practice room, so next week we’ll have to put everything back in order.
Today was sleeping in, until the church bells started going off at 9:30, 10:00, etc. Got to get in all the extra bell ringing for Easter, I guess. Went for a short walk and then had stacked enchiladas, using filling I had made earlier and put in the freezer. Really convenient. And had some cookies and ice cream - need to recover from yesterday’s big day.
Don’t have to go to work until Wednesday - I’m going to enjoy some serious (well, maybe not bear-worthy, I just don’t have the experience) slothing until then.
My iPad is dead, with the charger tip broken off in the port. May not be able to be resurrected. My phone, also old, is not cooperating even reading da Dope, much less posting anything.
So I will be out of commission for awhile, certainly days, if not longer. With the thousands in dental expenses staring at me replacing phone or iPad is far in the future.
Happy Sunday/Easter/Another Day! Kick backing and relaxing so far this morning. I still need to dye CtE’s hair - after realizing that I didn’t have another cap to use for their hair. However, I do have a lot of plastic wrap so my kid will have a plastic wrapped head while they become purple.
Hubby made pancakes and bacon for breakfast this morning. I love that Hubby is the cook. Because if it was me, we’d end up with underdone pancakes and burned bacon. This is why I make the desserts - those, I know.
The day is going to be pretty relaxed. Along with dyeing CtE’s hair, we’re having ham (which is currently in the crockpot), broccoli and potatoes for an early dinner. Then we’re going to visit Dad and bring him some ham. The kids should be working on school work and helping around the house but honestly, I don’t have the energy to fight them this morning. I really do need to get better organized, though.
That’s about when I would have said, “Prove it.” There should be a record of which labs were requested, and it shouldn’t be up to you to make sure they are doing their jobs right.
That’s always a tough one. Especially since I have a tendency to say that $X is good one time, but the next I’ll think it’s highway robbery.
I’m anxiously awaiting CtE getting their license. We’re hoping for this summer, partly because I do want them to drive themself and BtY to school next year.
That’s a problem we’ve run into as well. I’m actually out finding things to do but Hubby is having difficulty because when something he’s interested in is happening, he’s probably tutoring. We have joined a few geeky meet-up groups though. And I’m trying to make more board gaming friends that I’d feel comfortable inviting over to play board games with.
So bright and beautiful!
I’m generally squeamish, but I think that would be cool as hell to eat a technicolor egg salad. Walks away, considering the possibility
Crossing my fingers for her as well. She looks pretty happy, even with the bandage on her leg.
I don’t usually answer numbers I don’t recognize either, but I get those feelings as well. I’m glad that this was a good call and that you’ve got one less thing to stick in your mind for the rest of the weekend!
Thanks! I’ll have to check them out soonish. I suspect that it will save me money in the long run. And it’s not like the 'Boro is far from this side of town…
That just cracked me up far more than it should have.
I never did traditional Polish Easter breakfast. But thinking about babka makes me think that I need to bake some bread soon.
You’re not a fake fish! Neverevereverever! We Pisces need to stick together even when we’re swimming in different directions. (And if you, or anyone else, is curious how my Username came about, I found the thread from 22 years ago where I explained it.
Flyboy, nice looking shelving unit. I had been looking at one like that awhile ago, but I don’t really need one anymore thanks to the layout of my living room.
JtC, Thank you! I honestly chose that color partly because of my eyes. As for the brassiness in the wet pics… I think that was part of what bothered me as well. It just didn’t look right.
VanGo, technically, it’s supposed to be aquamarine, but I think it’s more turquoise. It is what I was going for. And pilot had the right of the eyebrow thing. It’s definitely more “trying to look at the right place, not drop the phone, does this angle look ok, crap I have to hold this for two seconds, what the hell are the kids yelling about now” reaction than anything else.
pilot, yeah, I wasn’t trying to go for subtle this time. I usually go some shade of red that meshes well with my graying brunette locks, but I’m in desperate need for change, so a noticeable difference worked well. I was more upset because all of my hair was supposed to be that color and I didn’t do it right.
red, thanks for the advice. I have a tendency to use a 3 minute leave in conditioner as a general rule every other wash (which is about every other day). I may switch to a spray conditioner instead to see if it makes a difference.
metalmouse, I try for smirking smiles. I don’t do open mouth smiles or laughter when I’m taking pictures because I’m embarrassed by the state of the very few teeth I have left. I will try another, bigger closed mouth smile picture later.
rc, the brand I went with is one I probably won’t use again. (Adore ) Being in the type of bottle it is, I ended up getting color everywhere. This definitely did dry lighter and I’m glad. Thanks for the advice!
doggio, shoe, swampy, oopsie and Dicey, thanks for the compliments! I’m definitely getting more used to it and liking it a bit more as I’m getting used to it.
Since we’ve got a couple hours before the ham is done, I’m going to drag Hubby to the table to play some board games again. Because I’m an addict.
Well! I had breakfast, loaded and started the dish washer, and put the trash and recycling out to the street all before nine o’clock! The only thing pending now is baking the ham and making the all-rotten potatoes.
Speaking of ham… I was going to have a ham, cheese, and green chile omelette for breakfast. But the sandwich ham I was going to use was bad; so I had a cheese, green chile, and avocado omelette instead.
Eastern church is a week behind this year. We rarely have the paschal holy day on the same day as the western churches. Some times they are 5 weeks apart! As it is Palm Sunday we can have fish today! Whee!
Between Christmas 13 days behind and paschal a week to 5 weeks behind, we rarely pay full price for holiday food.
Truepicses, I use splat; and I leave it on for at least 3 hours before rinsing. Lasts for months.
After years of holiday dinners my two adult daughters changed it up at Christmas and wanted brunch. Today I made scratch biscuits, hash browns and bacon that was OK to be heated up later. Closer to brunch time I put that stuff in to warm and made home fries, fried some sausage patties and then made some country gravy. Just before serving I made some nice and fluffy scrambled eggs.
True Fish, I’m one of those people who don’t care what color people’s hair is, as long as they don’t look like Ronald McDonald. (I don’t like clowns.) You look fine.

We also are heathens and don’t do Easter. We’re gonna have a pork roast and prolly potato something tonight. And maybe a salad. I know, boring. I did make Halushki one time last week and it was good but Wifey said it “needed a sauce”. I decided it wasn’t a hill I wanted to die on, so I prolly won’t make it again.
Boo, I thought you got your Ipad fixed just lately, or have I entered a time warp again?
I hope you get things sorted soon, we need you.
Skritches for Bailey. Sweet looking pup.
Wifey made pina colada (coconut and pineapple) scones for breakfast this morning. They were very good.
Now I need to go find something not-sweet for lunch.
I cleaned, I read some, I went for a walk. I ran into Woody and his human, and I finally got to pet him after 8 years. He’s quite sweet when your dog isn’t insinuating his father sleeps with poodles. Speaking of which, I started browsing adoptable pups. I’ll probably end up going to the County shelter, since it’s easier to adopt a Romanian orphan than it is to adopt a pet from some of these rescue groups. < quietly serches Da Jungle for orphan sized beagle costumes >
I just logged in, and you’re the current last poster in 2 threads. Seeing the Swedish Chef as a poster in the “Let’s Talk Knives” thread is hilarious.
Careful with that (I’ve used them too), make sure that the writing side is facing out .
real fish, the spray leave in conditioner should be used in addition to what you usually use. Bleach and color processing dries out your hair.
Messed around in the studio and am within spitting distance of finishing the cookbooks. In another week or so, my cousins Rick and Denise will each get one.
Easter dinner was Basque chicken over rice, steamed asparagus and cucumber - mushroom salad. 'Twas good.
