[Old] Lets have a healthy breakfast in the MMP

Morning all. Bladder seems to have settled down, only my usual 5am pee today and no urgent signals since then. Got the clothes and pans out for Purple Heart to pick up, had quite a bit of stuff, especially as my weight loss has led to new jeans/slacks recently. 64F heading for 85F today, so the heater will get the day off and may even need to look for the AC option. First meal will be Braunschweiger and soup around 10:30-11AM. Then will need to pedal away some of those calories sometime this afternoon.

Just looked at my water bill account, it went from 800 gallons usage in Feb/Mar to 5,900 gallons in Mar/Apr, so yeah, something is leaking around here. JtC, plumbing help is never cheap, but I’m in a position to afford it if it’ll get the (&^&*%^ system fixed this time.

Real Fish, sounds like a good time was had at MFN’s. Hope van has an easy fix.

Pilot, ain’t it always when you finally have some days off, the crud strikes? Take care and hope the plague test is negative.

swampy, like Pilot above, hope the test just shows normal 'ick that has you back at things by tomorrow.

boo fae, sounds like a great week followed by travel overseas…I’d call that a win.

JtC, sounds like a nice little trip and I’m sure GG will get over his snit. And does the bakery have a website so we can drool along with you?

Ok, onward into the morning. All y’all take care.

My last / only go-around w COVID was a relative non-event. Three days of comfortably useless / lazy followed by seven days of apparently-well isolation.

One is optimistic about this infection, even assuming it really is the plague. I’ve also had mild non-COVID URIs that clear and return on what seems like a 7-10 day cycle for a month or more. Le Sigh.

Speaking of healthy breakfasts, now’s the time to go eat one. Cheers all!

Heaved then helped 69. It was a mess. I had a bit of a sore throat earlier, but I did a saltwater gargle, and I feel better now. Must be the pollen, and 30 degree temperature swings this week. I’ll be glad when thy replace the light in my kitchen, it’s like a lightswitch rave in there.

Feel better, Pilot!

I love the voice, Oopsie. Make me want a Manhattan to go with it.

this morning, i give lager his shot and go to take my med., when i suddenly remember i have a skin test at the allergist on weds. and i’ve been taking zyrtec… and now i have to cancel the very difficult to get appt… uff da!

i scheduled this appt. in jan…, and april was the earliest…, now i have an ap.pt at the end of june. le sigh. i am not awake enough first am. usually when i have this test i put the antihistamines in a drawer so i don’t do this.

arrrghhh!

Well, I did not have a banana before my protein shake again this morning: I wound up eating the last “good” one last night, and the ones in the new bunch are still a little too green. So much for the great breakfast experiment.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to listen to my clip and say nice things!

I took Bailey to doggy daycare today. She hadn’t been since mid-February, and she really needs a nail trim – and could use a brushout. And some socialization time can’t hurt. She could probably use a bath, too, but she’ll be boarding in a few weeks and I’ll have them give her a bath then (the day I pick her up). I never do any of her grooming myself, because she used to go to daycare quite often and I always just had them do it. These days, though, she rarely goes, between me working from home and her being an old lady (14) with bad hips who doesn’t need/want to play anywhere near as much. So I tend to get behind on her grooming, and then I feel guilty until I take her to either daycare or PetSmart! I’m really glad she’s getting some exercise and attention today, but the house always feels so empty without her.

At 12:30 PM ET it’s 73°F and sunny, with a forecasted high of 80. My windows have been open since 10:30am…yay! It’s supposed to hit 86 tomorrow, then they’re calling for low 80s with thunderstorms on Wednesday. After that, high temps will range from 60 to 82 over the next couple of weeks. It’s definitely early spring in the DMV.

Today feels like it should be Wednesday or Thursday, but I’m glad it’s actually only Tuesday because I am not feeling motivated at all today. I’m likely to get very little done, so it’s good that there is still plenty of week left.

Time for lunch, and the last Boar’s Head chicken ceasar wrap (which I bought on Sunday). Last week I got 10 individual cups of fruit salad from Edible Arrangements for the piano bar thingy, and there were a few left over: they’re really good, and I’m looking forward to having one after the wrap. I’ll have the last one with dinner.

Oh I am soooo bad at taking pain meds prophylactically! I’m even bad about taking them once the pain has started. I usually spend a while thinking “it’ll go away” before finally caving.

Tangent: These days I’m not allowed to take NSAIDs, so Tylenol is my go-to…happily, during my “pills are super difficult to swallow” phase (immediately after surgery) I discovered dissolve packs. They’re like pixy stix. I never went back to pills: the packets are much easier to carry around, and I don’t need water.

That’s very cool!

Um…yikes? :astonished:

I love the Tucson Botanical Gardens. It’s small, but really a gorgeous place, lush with mature growth plants. I’ll have to make my way back there again someday. Enjoy!

Very nice singing!

Somebody else who has corn meal mush for breakfast! I haven’t had it for so long. Might make some over the weekend. Hubby thinks it’s weird.

Glad Cerby’s doing well with his new dad.

MetalMouse, hard to believe you have yet another house plumbing issue. Hope they fix it for good this time.

Pilot, hope the ick doesn’t last long. I’ve had some sort of crud since Friday evening, but it just feels like a normal cold, so it didn’t even occur to me to test. Probably should.

This morning it was below freezing and the high was 9 C / 48 F. I like seeing the snow-covered mountains, but it’s weird to be cold after we had such nice weather three weeks ago.

Can I blame the cold for my alarm clock mess? Somehow I didn’t have the alarm set or turned it off, so I woke up 36 minutes after my alarm should have gotten off. My computer at home didn’t want to cooperate when I wanted to login and send an email to work about being late. Restart fixed that. Got to work 30 minutes late, and then my computer at work didn’t want to cooperate - the external monitor kept blinking, so I had to restart it as well. Technology was not my friend this morning.

When we moved house last year I threw away 3 bookshelf feet of IBM AS/400 manuals, plus my much loved and very dog-eared RPG programming manuals. That was 30+ years of my life into the recycle bin. sniff

Actually I threw away/gave away/donated a lot of stuff I wanted to keep, but I saw bad economic days ahead and wanted us out of that expensive house lest we got caught short and lost it to the bank. We’re too old to go live under a bridge. 'Sides, all the good under-bridge spots are already taken around there.
We’re now looking at the town south of us, Madras, because it’d put us closer to a good big hospital and this little house, as much as we love it, has too many stairs for people our age. We can get up and down them now, but in 10 years, who knows?

We’ve planned a trip into the ‘big city’ for today. We have to get the studded tires taken off the Hyundai.
The geniuses in Salem have a law about when that has to happen, even though it’s still against the law to drive over the mountain passes without ‘traction devices’.
Apparently we’re expected to remove our studded tires April 1st and then carry chains until they decide it’s safe in the passes. Prolly sometime at the end of May, or even June.
Idjits.

Hope everyone’s icky goes away soonest.

Sorry about your plumbing woes, Rat.

I know there’s more, but I forget, so {{{{{Hugs}}}}} all.

I’ve been going through professional books–donating tens of thousands of dollars’ worth, realistically. Difficult!

Try a baked sweet potato with Greek yogurt and peanut butter or cottage cheese for breakfast.

Howdy Y’all! Still feelin’ ick, but maybe a tiny bit better. I took a plague test and it was negative, so there’s that. Got sweet N.O.T. bakin’ as I post. There’s also a little left over pulled poke ahd hominy casserole. I think the sweet N.O.T. will be enough for me.

I’m one tired fishy that has only one spoon left, and that needs too be saved to pick up BtY from school. But I did want to give a quick update on the van.

The shop thinks is the neutral control switch. No other codes were flashed and the transmission is working fine. Since it’s a warranty issue, the shop needs to get permission from the company who does the warranty. We still aren’t sure if they’re just going to send the switch or another whole new tranny, but either way, I get to keep the van until the last comes in. One less thing to worry about.

Now I’m gonna nap until it’s time to get BtY. Maybe I’ll find an extra spoon in my dreams!

Tornado Tobias was in rare form today. He’s so advanced - he’s just 17 months old but he’s already entered his Terrible Twos!! Many tantrums! Then he decided to nap at 2 - less than half an hour before we had to go fetch Roxy. He should sleep for his mom, tho - both of them ran around the playground for more than an hour!

But I’m done for the day. Chillage shall ensue!

Yay for getting Carmen back doggio!

{{{wordy}}}

Feel better soonest pilot and swampy!

dicey, my mom used to make cornmeal mush. She’d make enough for cereal one morning, then put it in a loaf pan, stick it in the fridge, slice and fry it a day or two later. Now, you’ve flung a cravin’ on me.

My usual work day breakfast is a scrambled aig patty, some pepper jack and hot sauce on a whole grain tortilla, with a couple of prunes and coffee. On the weekends, sometimes it’s something that I actually have to use a recipe for, but usually some hot cereal topped with a couple of aigs, sausage, ham or bacon on the side, coffee or tea and some fruit. Generally, that serves as brunch.

Today, I started to organize / clean out some external batteries that we keep on hand for those kind of phones (there aren’t very many of them anymore). Somehow or another, I managed to 5S my way into an all day project tomorrow. That’s welcome, given that we’re at the slow time of the month when they like to send us home early.

On the way home this afternoon, a big Dodge dually was in the next lane at a stop light. Sure enough, as soon as the light changed, he hit the gas and I got coal rolled. What a jerk!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Toosday!

Nice weather at the park this morning, 52 degrees and bright sun. Now it’s 67 degrees, so looks to be a pretty day.
Only me and Barky/Humpy mom on the big side, because that is the way it is now.
We got out just in time though, a man with four pit bulls was coming to the park as we were leaving. He seemed to have pretty good control of them, but they were quite rowdy once they were in there. He was also very polite and waited around the corner until we got our dogs loaded up.
I really appreciate people who stand back and wait so there’s no chaos at the gate.

The store called because they didn’t have any three-pound packs of ground chicken. BUT, they did have two packs in the used meat section if I was interested in those. They were marked down from $12 to $7, so I think that is a good deal. They are going right into the freezer anyway until I have to make another batch of dog food.

The vet called this morning and asked if we could bring a urine sample with us. I thought, oh shit, we’ve tried this before and Ripple is not very cooperative. He sees us coming with a cup taped to the end of a pole and he turns the faucet off and moves away. I also don’t have anything to collect it with either. They told me I could use anything clean except a prescription bottle. My son suggested the containers that soup and stuff comes in, we have some. I said no, I’d rather have something with a screw on lid. I have some little Mason jars, I think they hold two ounces, with diamond cut sides. A friend gave me those with something she made in them, and I thought no, those are too pretty and were probably not cheap. Not going to waste them on dog pee.
Then I remembered I had a few containers that face cream came in that I saved, cute little jars I could put my rings in or something.
My son picked the heavy glass, six-sided cobalt blue one with the mirrored lid.
The tech was impressed, Ripple had a bougie pee bottle.

We had no trouble collecting it. My son snuck up behind Ripple and I think Ripple didn’t know he was there. Then we noticed Ripple’s pee is green! I had a little flip out until my son pointed out it only looks green because the container is blue.

The vet visit was not good. His tumors are coming back.
Which I already knew.
He looks horrible, not ready to be put down horrible, but just not himself.
We went out three times though, and it’s hot outside, so that may be part of it.
Both dogs were panting even though I put the AC on in the truck.
The vet said she will have the test results tomorrow and will consult with the oncologist and come up with a plan.
I guess it’s going to be a balancing act with Palladia and his WBC count.

I’m debating going to the park. Getting in and out of the truck is hard, but not going makes him depressed.

I think both of my key fobs need new batteries. It’s weird that they both would go out around the same time though. They irk if I am standing next to the truck, but they don’t irk from the house anymore.

I got a cute, but short, video of Cerby swimming in the creek. He looks happy. His new dad changed the spelling to Serby.
I am happy he got a nice home, because I still feel guilty sometimes, and I know the guilt would be horrible if he had been put down.

The woman at the credit union was wrong, we can’t deposit the check through the app. We’ll have to go out there tomorrow. She said we can use the drive through, which makes it easier.

WOW! MetalMouse, that is a huge difference in water usage

pilot, I’m sorry you caught something. hands over a huge pot of tea for the physical and fresh baked bread for the emotional/spiritual/whatever isn’t physical

We’re hearing that we’ve got that weather headed our way (again) in tomorrow into Thursday. I’m glad y’all were spared!

Yikes! I hope someone can find where it the water is going (and how it got into the living room) because that’s a HUGE jump.

You’ve got my sympathies! I have the same problem with my Gyn. He’s incredibly popular thanks to his fantastic manner and I have to schedule my appointments with him six months to a year in advance otherwise I’m waiting to get in. Hopefully someone will cancel and you can get wait listed to an earlier spot.

Are we in part of a week? I just thought we were in the middle of the longest year ever. Though, I think my “year” started about two weeks ago.

Same. It drives Hubby nuts because I’ll be complaining about pain and he’ll ask if I’ve taken meds. “Ummmm… no.” After 20 years, you’d think he’d have learned to stop asking.

It sounds to me like technology was trying to say, “You should stay nice and warm in bed.” I know that you couldn’t, but it’s sooo nice to think about.

This is one of the reasons that, when we moved apartments, we made sure to get one on the first floor. We were in a townhome and both Hubby and I are having more and more body issues and the stairs are TOUGH. It worked out really well for me after I bruised my knees and Hubby hurt the tendon in his foot because we’d have been trying to sleep on the couch downstairs!

swampy glad you’re feeling a tiny bit better and that you haven’t been plaguified.

Yeah… I’ve noticed more than a few of those around lately (more specifically the jerks than the duallies). I had a Toyota riding my butt as I was going down a single lane road. I was tempted to tap the breaks but I just got the van back.

I’ve only got the one fob at the moment (I really need to get a second one) and I’d noticed some changes over the last couple of months - it not working from as far away as it used to, it sometimes taking a couple button pushes. Right now, I have to be looking at the van and only the unlock and the door buttons work. So I feel your fob-pain.

The shop has already called to say that the warranty people have agreed to send the part. It should be there in a couple of days. So hopefully I’ll be able to drop it off early one day next week. They did say that if they just replaced the sensor, I should have it back later that day. So I’m hoping.

I’m trying to have any amount of energy this afternoon/evening and it’s just not happening. I don’t think I’m sick, just run-down from all the running around. At least Hubby’s foot is better and he’s able to drive. He’s got a tutoring gig tonight and I was afraid I was going to have to drive him there. I mean, he’s going to a library so it wouldn’t have been a big problem, but really, just relaxing is what I think I need tonight. So I’m a happy, if tired, fishy.

I stopped by to see Dad after I was finished at the shop for the van. He’d just gotten back from dialysis so he was pretty tired. But we talked for a bit, he said he’s happy with the work they’re doing with him. While I was there, the NP came in and I was incredibly impressed with her. Dad was lying down and, instead of talking to him from a standing position, she knelt down next to his bed and talked to him the whole time. She listened to what he had to say and came up with some possible work arounds to help with the pain. And Dad says she’s been in to check on him every day. This isn’t the experiences he had at either of the hospitals (though the first one was far better than the one he just left) and it was good to see someone being invested in their job.

My kids are out of school Thursday and Friday for “Spring Holiday” or something like that. They think they’ll be sitting, playing video games for four days. I know that they’ve got various doctor’s appointments, hair cuts and getting their room cleaned. Who will win the battle of the wills? Honestly, I can’t even guess at the outcome at the moment.

Now I need to figure out what I want for dinner. I love to bake but hate to cook so when Hubby isn’t home to cook, I either forget to eat or make myself a PBJ (the kids make their own meals, especially BtY who pretty much only ever eats pizza). Tonight though, Hubby said that he’d stop on his way home for something. I just need to decide what I want that something to be. Usually, with the kinda blech feeling I have, I’d have him stop at our favorite Chinese place for wonton soup, fried dumplings and donuts, but they’re closed on Tuesdays. So I need to do a little research to figure out what is near where he’s at. And after that, I’m lying down with several of the graphic novels that I have out of the library so I don’t have to return them unread (again).

Have a good night, all! {{{{everyone}}}}

bumba, the last time that I moved apartments, I went from a walk-up to a well chosen ground floor unit because I knew that my knees wouldn’t hold out too much longer schlepping crap up and down the steps. I would like to have a front door that opens up directly to the walkway / patio for my next apartment.

All y’all having key fob issues, I went through that about 6 months ago, my fob mostly stopped working, and it was truly a PITA, because, evidently, my key no longer works in the driver’s door of the truck. It is a 2007, so it’s getting up there. I changed batteries, no real difference. So I ordered some Amazon replacements for 20 bucks, and after a little key, door lock dance they are working great. The instructions came with the fobs. It was like key on-lock door, key off, lock door 3 times… Easy peasy.

I sooo glad to hear that Cerby (Serby) is doing well. I was kinda tempted to offer to take him, but I know I will be going on at least a week long install soon, so that wouldn’t be fair.

Now, need to put together a quote for a mid size project coming this fall. If’n I could get all the relevant information from the client, that’d be nice.

They sell bread  They also sell a couple of kinds of cookies, but mostly it is wonderful bread. I got a dozen Ciabatta rolls, a couple of french rolls, a couple of rustic french and a couple of sourdough. Most of it is in the freezer, that should hold me for months.

It was super windy, the kind of cold wind that cuts through your clothes, so we gave it a pass this time. I’ve always enjoyed it in the past and while the bloom had started, it was just the leading edge. We are planning to do another drive in a couple of weeks, maybe we can make it then.

The drive down there just keeps getting more “normal”. There used to be the occasional ??? moment when seeing a rusty piece of farm equipment or rocket, now the only really ??? things left are the cages on the poles from the stillborn Family Fun World and there are only two of them left.

I started to look at the plane graveyard to see if the trump plane had finally landed there, but then remembered that it made it to New York today. There are still acres and acres of moldering planes of all sizes. It is such a shame they can’t be refurbished or recycled.

I hope everyone who has the plague or just the ick recovers quickly!

They are the same age, it makes sense that they would both go out the same time.

Hi and thanks to all who’ve expressed concern over my annoying illness. The COVID test I took this evening 24 hours after that first “uh oh” moment was negative. I’ll test again in the morning just to be sure, but I bet I’m safe on that front. So just a run of the mill URI. The sort I could do an office job just fine with, but can’t do my job with. Here’s hoping it isn’t a lingering one. Had that last year and it was a PITA. Never felt bad for about 6 weeks, but never felt right either; stuffy head, etc.

Once knowing I wasn’t spreading plague we walked to a pleasant dinner at a nearby outdoor eatery. I watched a table of three large-to-oversized 50-something adults struggle to eat a single slice of this place’s cheesecake dessert. There’s ginormous servings, and then there’s ridiculous. This was ridiculous.

Saw another table with two professional-looking 55-60yo men and one expensively good-looking woman who was soooo bored while the men talked to each other about something inaudible to me. It later emerged the woman was wife to one of them. Anyhow mid-meal one of the men is holding up his phone in landscape mode showing something on the screen to the other man. Suddenly in a loud-ish commanding voice he says: “Get off the couch! Now! Bad Dog!”. Which gets repeated several more times.

He’s scolding his dog at home via remote control on his phone, evidently watching the poor confused hound through the home security system. As I said to my wife: The 21st Century is a very weird place. Don’t think I’ve ever heard a dog ordered off a couch in the middle of a crowded upscale-but-informal restaurant.
