(Old) Wait - what time is it in the MMP?

Awwww…

While it sounds like a tough road ahead, it’s good that it’s settled.

I’m sorry about the scam, shoe. Here’s hoping that you can get in a better place soonest.

Since it was too wet for the dog park, I took Nelson on a ride that included picking up the CO2 cartridge at Staples and stopping at the taco truck for three tacos (lengua and 2 asada) for supper. I even got a side of chicken (like they put in tacos) for Nelson.

Now for more chillage.

You could put berry jam in, or cook it with dried cranberries. Me? I like steel-cut oats (McCann’s or Trader Joe’s) with salt and a tablespoon of heavy cream. And sometimes an over-easy egg.

Yeah, she still has trust issues. If I walk toward her, she runs under the bed. I think she’s been put in cages, etc. so much in the past that she’s gunshy.

I’ve tried steel cut oats but found I don’t have the patience for it.

I keep reading about the eggs on savory oatmeal and telling myself to try that but then forget about come morning.

Dried cranberries have been my go to for years. Occasionally I’ll have a handful of walnuts or pecans to throw in. When I have the time, an apple (maybe a few days beyond its prime) diced up and cooked with the oats. That has been known to happen to past best by pears too.

When I’m with the grandkids, they like a big spoon of peanut butter stirred in, with chocolate chips if they can talk their mother into it.

Patience? You just bring it to a boil for a minute, turn the heat to low and put the lid on, and there’s nothing else you need to do. Just wait 45 minutes.

Oh… I got a private parking ticket today. (No criminal consequences, but it goes to Collections if you don’t pay it.) I needed to pick up those pictures in the film photography thread, and parked in a ‘permit only’ parking place. I was going to pay the $50 fine online, but the URL timed out. So I’ll mail them a check on Monday. Anyway, I’ve learned my lesson.

And late afternoon greetings from N. Ali-bama. Mattress has been re-arranged and clean sheets installed, still have to wash the dirty ones (on list for tomorrow). The Mattress pad will be the toughest, it barely fits in my washer or dryer. Spent some time at the gym and had some bacon-on-rye afterward. Dinner will be some lean Cuisine Fettuccine a bit later. 67F outside but rain on-and-off all day, so still pretty comfortable indoors.

Taters, hope the birds stay fed and the rats go hungry and annoy the neighbors.

Never been a fan of Thanksgiving dressing of any sort, albeit the White Castle dressing is worth consideration…think I’ll mention it to brother and SIL, they hate White Castles with a passion. They do make a pretty darn good Turkey, though…

Cookie, hope Sadie gets more and more trusting of you as the days pass. And glad youngest son can start taking his life off of hold. Hope the referral brings you some relief.

FCM, one of these days I have to clean out my 2-car garage; I have an old broken-down mower and several other tools laying about and the shelves haven’t been cleaned in years (decades…). One of these days…

Shoe, hang in there, life has given you several kicks, but you’re strong and can handle it.

nellie, hope you got your walk in.

Because I can?

Wheelie, sounds like a rather scatter-brained business-person rather than a conscious scam, since you actually (eventually) got what you ordered. Hope it plays beautiful music. Enjoy the family get-together.

rocky, glad to hear you’re doing better.

flyboy, sorry about the ticket, haven’t gotten one in a long time, but I understand the ‘gamble’ parking there, I’ve done it before myself and managed to get away with it.

Onward into the night.

Howdy Y’all! Sad bear here. My DAWGS blew it big time today. They didn’t come to play, but Sippimissi did. Oh well, I love ‘em anyway. OYKW has a terrible cold. He’s abed as I post. I shall sleep in the guest room as I don’t wish to share his sickies. We do that when one of us is sick. Thanks for the Doperversary wishes. I’ve been here twenty-three years I think.

I rode for forty minutes today. That’s the most since May. Ariel was very good. I was a bit rusty. I’m in my pjs watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

We got the results of their blood work today. It seems as though GG was infected by a brain eating bacteria, but it starved to death before being passed on to Jolene.

We didn’t trust them to not wash the Revolution off each other’s necks so closed a door between them for a very long and loud hour. Then we gave up and hoped that enough had soaked into their skin that it would be OK.

That’s how my grandmother did it. That’s how my mother did it and that’s the way I do it! Well, some in the bird, a few balls on the rack and the rest in a casserole dish. (Don’t STUFF the bird, just gently fill it and then check the internal temp carefully to be sure it is fully cooked.)

Why would you feel stoopit because there are scammers out there everywhere. Not your fault and dang about the mess.

I’m disappointed for you as well. I know how disappointed you must have been to learn that the Very Good Thing you tried to do for your dad was a swindle.

Put it in a shaker. That can help localize the mess.

I never worried about that because sniks would move in to eat the rodents. We had a lovely Bullsnik under our shed for years. (It went after a Thrasher nest one year and the parents bit off the end of its tail so it was easy to identify. I used to sit on the back deck by the nest for hours, it never went after the nest again.)

I’m sorry your AH neighbors are ruining your quality of life, our ex-neighbors are the main reason Hubs agreed to move.

I’ll bet it was great! Partying with bikers is never political, it is always the three B’s.

When I read that I went hmmmm. I’ve never had a real White Castle burger, but if you made stuffing out of them, I would certainly try it.

Whoever was cooking it made more than one mistake. Good stuffing is never soggy, it is moist and fluffy and savory.

Do you drink tap water? Shoves cats off the fainting couch.

You can easily afford an under the sink R/O system and also have the know-how to install it. Tap water is nasty and will be getting worse now that the EPA is going to be gutted.

I’m so happy for both of you but do wonder what your poor cat-less wife thinks about the situation, LOL!

I wish people would take down their Harris/Walz yard signs; it’s just sad at this point.

As soon as I get home I will do that in your honor (plus, I agree, it’s time-no need to make ourselves more miserable). I’m staying over with the grands as SIL is in Chicago on business and these kiddos are definitely each kid requires one adult. Monday morning I’ll be home and I’ll stagger out coffee cup in hand to pull up signs. I’ll miss my pink “crazy cat lady for Kamala” sign the most.

I had 7 signs up in my yard, we prevailed on several important issues like legalizing medical marijuana and keeping tax dollars in public schools, both of which I know will do good for lots of folks. Should be fun watching the pearl clutching as the bud shops open up. There’s 3 CBD vape shops within 3 blocks of me-I’’ll be able to stroll down in my crocs and mom jeans.

It is in a shaker. Remember she’s all but blind. Just the other day, she picked up the pepper shaker thinking it was salt… Anyway, she tends to shake them all with wild and reckless abandon, which is why I do her breakfast. FCD hadn’t learned the routine.

So you say, but it still looks like soggy bread and stuff to me. Totally unappealing.

Well water, yes. And we did have an R/O system when we had the 150 gallon aquarium, but it’s long gone. Our water is actually quite good, just hard.

The only issue on our ballot was adding reproductive rights to the state constitution - it passed with something like 74% yes. Frankly, I think the issue would be less of an issue if men were held accountable. Of course, rapists must be caught, but they’re not the only ones causing unwanted pregnancies. To say nothing of unviable pregnancies for whatever reason. I’ll just leave it there before I climb on the soapbox. One last thing - I favor the Lysistrata approach. Moving on…

I’ve been watching a documentary series on Netflix called Cruising the Cut - or did I mention that last week? It’s about a guy who takes his 50’ narrowboat thru the canals in England. An interesting look at a different type of boating - at least it’s interesting to me.

After I finished de-leafing the back yard, we went to lunch and a new-to-us place - actually the third restaurant in that particular location. First was a deli, then a Grille. Now it’s a taphouse with rather pricey sammiches. Two sandwiches (came with fries) and one iced tea came to almost $40 - that seemed a bit much. Then on the receipt, the suggested tips were 18, 20, & 25% - mostly I’ve encountered 15, 18, and 20% but I guess this is a higher class place? Regardless, I go for the dollar amount closest to 20% unless the service is really sucky, then it’s more like 10%. But it has to be reeeeeeally sucky.

MIL went to bed around 6 this evening - I guess she’s not feeling well because she usually refuses to consider bed before 9, even as she sleeps in her chair. She looks so raggedy and frail these days, and her weight is down to 97#. Her supper was one Andes mint. She didn’t want anything else. We’re at a loss.

So, tomorrow’s plan still holds - mulch/vac the front yard. I’m making corned beef and cabbage for late lunch/early supper. Beyond that, I’ll wing it.

Mrs. L.A. asked if we could go to Bay Breeze down the beach for dinner tonight. This surprised me, as she said that what she’s been getting there upsets her stomach. Of course I agreed. I had the pan-roasted rockfish with asparagus, which is perfect. She had pasta Alfredo with chicken. She had a large glass of pinot grigio, and I had a couple of Manhattans. And she paid for it.

Start stretching. That’s really all Tai Chi is, slow stretching and reaching and bending. It helps “oil” your joints and is what got me off my cane after years of pain and PT.

@Kitten_Mitten I’m so glad you are enjoying your classes as well. I really need to find another instructor, the online classes are OK, but doing Tai Chi with others is so much more enjoyable.

:people_hugging:

Please start taking care of yourself. You can’t care for those who depend on you if you are not taking of yourself first.

You are a good and kind and smart person. You didn’t deserve what happened but you do deserve to be good to yourself.

That certainly wasn’t the ending I expected, I’m so glad it worked out!

Grins, yeah, like you, it hardly ever happens, so it’s always strange

We will have to make a special trip to Logan to find the only booze sto in the county. One can buy beer and wine at dollar stores and cheap booze at Walgreens but my cranberry sauce deserves the fancy shit.

We do love spoiling our pets, don’t we? I still miss dumping a basket of warm laundry on VBC, she loved it so much-a bitter sweet memory that happens several times a week.

I doubt they will have the good stuff, there is a whole process involved in selling MMJ. At least that’s how it works in AZ and WV. Ohio too, their permit process is out of the world expensive.

They might stock up on some pretty glassware though.

Now I’m putting a link in that folks might want to think about before clicking. Remember my favorite hobby…

For a random pearl clutching note, I fell down a rabbit hole and found the history of dildos.

I also learned somewhere else that holding a beer uses your arm and hand the way it was meant to, holding a mouse twists bones and nerves totally the wrong way. What I got from that is that we should drink more beer and internet less. I’m up for that!

Oh ouch! Have you noticed that the suggested tips include tax? We always figure it out ourselves, but I’ve been checking the math on the suggested tips and it is rarely correct.

You are doing all you can. She had a good run, but now she’s tired.

So, a very strange thing happened this morning, I found a pile of dirt in my stitching room. It was not there when I closed the drapes last night and it wasn’t the sort of dirt we have around here anyhow. It was a three inch line of AZ parking lot dirt, not the rich black stuff we have now.

I would have thought nothing about it back when we were moving in, but now it is all twilight zone stuff.

The forest is getting bare. It still has color, but enough leaves are gone that I’m starting to see things back there I didn’t expect. Like a small graveyard behind the old church. I’ve never gotten used to seeing headstones on the side of mountains, it always amazes me to know that folks aren’t worried about floods taking the headstones and coffins down to the river every year. It is so different living with water.

I’ve not noticed, altho that’s what I usually base it on, too. I have to round to an even dollar amount - no way I’m going to tip $6.53 or whatever - that’s just dumb. I do wish sometimes that I could afford to leave a $100 tip, just because. But until I buy a winning lottery ticket…

We were noticing today how some trees are just about nekkid and others still have way too many leaves waiting to fill our yard. I wish we’d get a good wind that would blow them all into the woods, or the neighbor’s yard. Either way. At least the mulcher/vac is working. I dumped 3 loads today (really, only half to 3/4 full, because a full load is too hard to dump.) I shouldn’t have that much tomorrow since the front yard is about half the size of the back. We’ll see.

There was a Freakanomics episode on that subject on NPR this afternoon. It was very interesting.

Why would you tip on taxes? That seems rather silly to me. We used to tip our favorite waiter a hundred every Christmas. Just because.

We don’t have yard trees so all of the leaves that fall can blow around or wait until Hubs rides his mower around. I did just order a Mayer Lemon tree but it will be an inside tree most of the time. @purplehorseshoe how do you keep Monkey from peeing in your tree’s dirt?

Got a link? But, yeah, the weed money is pretty interesting to follow.

Evening all. Big Bowl of Pasta has been assimilated and my calories for the day are complete (unless temptation strikes…and it will). Have managed not to watch any tackleball at home today, we’ll see if that makes it to bedtime. Still about 64F outside, this is a November I could learn to like.

swampy, looks like several ranked teams took it on the chin today, my old rooting interest Ohio State (motto: We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Michigan) won and sets up a big game with…Indiana? College tackleball is being weird this year. Hope you can avoid the cold bug.

wet one, presume you weren’t in your pj’s while riding Ariel; she was probably happy to get out too.

JtC, glad the felines are doing well.

I understood that reference! And on googling it, I didn’t–three body parts, right? Don’t think it would be Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms…

What she said.

FCM, I may have to look for Cruising the Cut, that sounds interesting.

And a good night to all, catch up again on Sunday.

Hope he feels better soon. Judging by the sniffles, sneezes, and coughs I was hearing at the office yesterday, there’s some variety of kennel crud making the rounds over there, and yes, I’m one of the patients.

I dunno what was going on at 6 p.m. local (I’m assuming some sort of football?) but we had to put the kibosh on 6 pm orders after a while.

One was for six larges plus a couple of gluten-frees; another also wanted a gluten free in addition to whatever the hell else they wanted, also for 6 pm; and someone else squeaked around S.M. and her “no more 6 pm orders” with a … 6:15 pickup time, the cheeky bastard.

To stir the SDMB pot a bit about toppings …

Someone ordered a medium JUST pineapple. Like, sauce, cheese, pineapple. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Shit “Whoops!” happened, it got a bit burned, had to be re-made.
I asked if we could slice the crispy one & put it on the break table anyway, and I will say, I was not the only one who absolutely busted into that thing.

Kinda?

I stopped at the dispo on my way home, and happened to get their manager at the drive-thru. He was the one who’d ordered the pizza, that fun night awhile ago when I “delivered” to them and got to feel like a rock star. He definitely knows me.

Anyway, I told him I had four bucks cash on me, and how many pre-rolls could I get, please?

“Four.”

“Okay, then!”

He hands me the bag & wishes me a good night, as I’m still holding the $ out.
I am confused - plz take my payment? He says, “It’s on me tonight” and just … smiled.

I realize for a lot of people, what amounts to “randomly scored free drugs” isn’t the cutest look, but y’all, I cried the whole way home.
(All three whole minutes, but still.)

I just … it felt so good to be on the receiving end of a random good deed.

Bless your heart, but that’s about 44.5 minutes longer than some of us have patience for.

First time I’ve encountered that one. Gave me a smile, it did.

I snort-laughed at that one.

Oh, absolutely.
I loosely follow a recipe from Cooks Illustrated, which starts by sauteeing the veg in an entire stick of butter.

The end result is crispy on top, deeply flavored, and is definitely the opposite of soggy.

Oh, dang.

I’d have totally put that one up.

Keep it? Swat intruders with it?

I fully support every item on your soapbox.

Except the stuffing thing. We disagree there.

{ snerk }

I guess it hasn’t occurred to him yet?

There’s also a bunch of random stones and seashells around it so maybe it doesn’t feel diggable…

But THANKS for jinxing it!

Please tell me this is a “Bad Santa” reference.

Booze, bullshit, and buttsex.

Yep, not a good week for Mumper football except for your Ohio State and the only reason the Cornhuskers didn’t lose was we didn’t play. Here’s a highlight:

And swampy, happy doperversay! Hope your sweetie feels better tout suite. Maybe he needs more anti-malarials :cocktail:?
