I got a weird midnight-thirty voicemail last night. I didn’t call back because I had been sleeping for two hours when the phone rang. It took me a minute to remember that I know the guy who called (and that he’s freshly single. Connection? )
Off to work. Going to see how many people I can shock with my freshly shorn locks.
Spaz, I envy you your bouncy spring cut. I’m waaaay overdue for one… my split ends have split ends of their own at this stage.
Congrats on surviving the nuptials,** FCM**. Now make with the stories and pix already!
Mindy, sounds like you might have more luck hanging about the Apple store and fluttering your eyelashes at some of the regulars.
…and on that note, I’m off to work. 'Tis Official Go-Live Day today, but it’s feeling strangely anti-climactic already. I should be at least a little excited to see a whole year’s work finally come together, right?
Awake (barely) and caffeinating. Enjoyed my loaf last night, brief though it was. Went to sleep at a respectable time (half past midnight being respectable for me.) Today it’s back to business, which I expect will be quite hectic overall.
Mahna[sup]2[/sup] - I’m not a particularly good eyelash flutterer. Plus, every time I’ve been in my local Apple Store I’ve had to elbow my way through the crowd, and “Sorry about the ribs – say, how’s your diction?” isn’t the most effective of conversation gambits. They ought to have some kind of community bulletin board there or something.
BooFae - But of course I missed y’all. This isn’t the sort of place you can just leave and forget about, and I wanted to check in before the enforcers dropped by for a visit.
ChaoticBear - I … don’t even know where to begin with that, so I’m just going cross my legs until the sympathetic pain goes away and then never think of it again. Of course, saying that just turned it into a pink elephant…
Heff&Roo - Hi! Thanks, yes, it’s quite the bummer. Now the wife has to get a cheap temporary phone until we can get her a real iPhone. (She sold hers to help pay for the iPhone.)
I missed the Guitar Hero conversation last night, but KeithT’s a huge GH fan. We’ve got GHII and some friends have III and the '80s version. We’re getting together with a group tomorrow night to play. And someone’s bringing Rock Star, which most of us haven’t played before. So that should be fun. I’m not a big video game fan, but it’s a good excuse to get together with people.
No advice on the car, Pie, but I think swampy’s got the right idea. If they want to keep using it, they can do what’s necessary to keep it running safely. Although it could be argued that if you’re planning to use it in the future (i.e. to take it back from them in a couple months), that it’d be good to split the bill. Anyway, good luck with it whatever you decide.
It’s sunny here this morning and could be 80! Wow! I think it might actually really be spring!
So then we get to have a tunder-boomer later. ::sigh:: Couldn’t we at least enjoy the hot weather for one day?
Morning. I’m here. Telling myself to work. I am, however, going to go get my hair cut this afternoon. I won’t say what I’m doing with it because I want snowbunny to see for herself next week. But it’ll be a change.
That’s my exciting day. Work. Get hair cut. Throw Kong for Isaac. Work. Envy me my exciting life, people.
Today is inventory day, which doesn’t really mean anything except that I’m tripping over people while I’m trying to fill prescriptions. And the district loss prevention guy is here and he is a total hottie, so I’m doing my best to ogle when he can’t see me, but the view from behind is just fine, so I’m not complaining.
6 more hours until mini-vacation funtime adventure!
swampy, Calloway Gardens is a former client of my firm. Your mom ever go over for the Xmas lights?
tarra, keep up the good work. Each day will get easier.
nola, good news about your mom.
kai, good vibes headed your way.
taters, we want all the gory details pronto!
Can’t wait to hear how the wedding went fcm.
So I went back to the optometrist this morning because the progressive lenses just weren’t working for me. The result is a slightly stronger lens for the left eye and regular old bifocals instead of the progressives. These I will use mostly for driving. I also ordered a pair of reading/computer glasses. This will work out better since I spend eight hours a day, five days a week staring at my computer at work.
Too much to do with too little time. Work next 3 days. Asked for tomorrow off, but seems unlikely. Now must help out at soccer picture day from 10-1, and must find a nice beige or tan straight skirt for Sunday. No time. Gah.
Ehhh… So many people think working in a leather shop is a job of their dreams. Even if it was “Mr. X” in San Francisco. Pay was pretty much terrible (Although SF’s new “livable” minimum wage law probably makes it a little better now) and the working conditions could best be described as casually dangerous.
Industrial walking-foot sewing machines will think nothing of sewing your fingers together (For those used to home sewing machines, yes, you can easily get your fingers under the presser foot - my machine had a 5/8" thickness capacity.)
We went through bandaids like normal offices go through copy paper. Everyone’s working with sharp tools, so it was a rare day that someone didn’t stab or slice a finger.
The stuff itself? You’ll get a lot less enthusiastic about it by the time you’re finishing up a production run of say, six dozen jocks or three dozen vests. It all just became black stuff to be shoved through a sewing machine, and at 5:00, you just try to scrub as much of the dye off your fingers as possible.
