Please welcome our newest SDMB moderator, Spice Weasel

I’m flirting with the idea of Sparkly Jackboots On. Or Knocking It Up a Notch! I could just write every mod note in Spanish. It’s a lot to think about.

Watch “Tremors” instead, it’s a lot more fun. Plus, sandworms!

I think I have an official take on the mod jokes now.

While the mod jokes are funny, I think other posters pointing out that I’m a mod, particularly in threads where I’m arguing a certain side of an issue or trying to moderate, makes it even more difficult to appear unbiased in modding decisions. If you’re not breaking the rules, you shouldn’t have to think twice about disagreeing with me. AFAIC I’m on jury duty, it’s my responsibility to be as objective as humanly possible no matter my personal feelings about a subject or poster. In certain contexts, the jokes can undermine this.

In places like Mini rants or other innocuous settings they seem harmless. I’m not going to mod any of the jokes, I’m just going to ask people to use their best judgment and try to consider to what extent such comments could impact others’ perception. Fair?

Are weasel jokes allowed?

*12 year old weasel walks into a bar.

The bartender says, “I’m sorry. I can’t serve underage weasels.”

The weasel says, “That’s fine. I don’t need something alcoholic. What else do you have?”

The bartender says “Oh, we have lots! We have water, pop, tea, coffee, smoothies. What would you like?”

“Pop,” goes the weasel. *

Found that on the internet while searching for an appropriate voodoo spell.

You should be the recipient of Spice Weasel’s first Mod Warning for that sad joke.

Now I know what a Spice Weasel is

Across the internet, you will find pretty much every user name I have is some reference to Futurama.

Giant sandworms and Sting.

(Gotta love IMDB’s obsession with “as…” - they report every time a song written by him is used in a movie, with the “as Gordon Sumner” tag)

Your original one here wasn’t  I know when your birthday iiiiiiiis! (It happens to be close to mine)

Yeah, the original one was my AIM screen name (remember AIM?) assigned to me by my best friend when I was 18. It was chock full of personal information about me - that is, a dead giveaway if you knew me personally - and at the time I was weirdly paranoid my Mom would find out about this board. I don’t give a flying fig what she thinks anymore so I guess it’s no longer an issue. I like being a Weasel, though. I think it suits me.

Welcome!

Great choice. One of the more level headed people around here.

(Bolding mine)

Except, I hate to point out, you’re not allowed to do that.

Please don’t mod me for junior modding a mod.

[groucho]Well that bar isn’t very high is it? [/groucho]

I’m surprised it needs spelling out, but I always have that problem. So

  • It’s off topic
  • It’s trolling
  • It’s in the wrong forum
  • It’s commenting on moderation
  • It’s “just a joke”
  • It’s “alright to joke about this because they don’t mind”
  • It’s just hazing.
  • It’s a different set of rules for these people/this situation.

I can’t pinpoint what it was that hurt me, but I think it is on that list.

I think you’re seriously overthinking things. There was nothing wrong with any of those remarks. And now you’re hijacking this thread.

Just my humble opinion, Melbourne, but I don’t have a problem with any of the comments in that thread. I, too, don’t get what you found offensive or offputting (your words) about them. And if Colibri (a mod) doesn’t, either, that’s good enough for me.

I was going to start using [Listen Up You Primitive Screwheads!][/LUYPS] but the other mods convinced me it was too adversarial.
