Pop Tart Purchase

This made me search for icebox cake and poptarts. Read at your own peril.

I’m actually liking the idea of blueberry poptarts as an ice cream mix-in. Or as the basis for a really yummy ice cream sandwich.

Hubby used to eat the Strawberry frosted ones for breakfast, along with a glass of milk. Now he eats only the ones from the U.K., as they do not have high fructose corn syrup. Unfortunately (fortunately?) high fructose corn syrups wreaks havoc on his digestion.

There’s currently a box of the U.K. version in the kitchen.

They still make the unfrosted blueberry ones, but they are hard to find. Most supermarkets, at least around here, stock only strawberry (and frosted blueberry).

Pop-Tarts [never leave out the hyphen!] were a small pleasure that I had to give up after my bypass. Frosted Chocolate Fudge Pop-Tarts® had eventually won out over all contenders. One of the best boxed snack items ever.

I love them. I get to eat them about once a year, now days.
When I was more in control, diabetically speaking, I ate quite a few.

Strawberry, no frosting. Why gild the lily?

Toast them a little too long, so the edges get nice and brown and toasty. Eat the edges first.

I’ve never eaten one. . They just don’t look appealing to me. After reading this thread, I’m sure I’ll never eat one in the future!

Yeah, this one. I always had Toaster Strudels growing up. Mom never bought Pop Tarts, and so for some reason I had this strange view that I was somehow missing out on something amazing.

Eventually I had some. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined. Never again.

The best non-Pop Tarts I ever had were gluten-free, before the craze took over (which does not apply to people who MUST eat that way). Not sure what brand they were or what they were made of, but they sure were good!

Chocolate or banana creame

Gotta make a grocery run, bye.

Glutino used to make a gluten free toaster pastry. Katz just introduced a version X mid-Feb.

Which puts me in mind of that place in the mall that sells cinnamon rolls. Their cinnamon rolls are good because they do not drizzle that damn glaze on them. Instead, if you need more poison, you can buy little things of frosting – the proper fluffy frosting made with butter (it is deadly good).

We are kindred spirits, tho I like the cinnamon with no frosting. Difficult to find.

Yeah, that sums it up. All the ingredients for happiness were there, including parents going on and on about how bad they were for us.

But on Scout backpacking trips they were delicious, because we were starving. Especially for those of us with the patience to wait until we made camp, and toasted/charred them over the campfire.

By the way, if you’re near (or can detour through) Madison, Wisconsin, stop at Bloom Bakery. Absolutely delicious pastries, pies and doughnuts… and beautiful pop-tarts!

My favorites are the ones filled with Ginger/Pear Preserves from Quince&Apple (THE best jam/marmalade makers).
But the Strawberries ‘n’ Cream look like what Pop-Tarts should’ve been!

Alton Brown made them on his show once. They looked amazingly like store bought pop-tarts.
I bet they were 100 times better.
He refused to ice them.

I wonder if he got sued for that show?

That exists? Sounds terrific!

Local restaurant chain (Ted’s Bulletin–yes, the name is weird) makes “Ted’s Tarts”, which are essentially bespoke Pop-Tarts. They’re pretty good. And four bucks apiece.

The year was 1966 (or so) and it was the first time we had convinced our mom to drive us to a few neighboring farms to go trick-and-treating. One older couple, the grandparents of the current farmer, was surprised to have anyone show up, but disappeared for a while and then slipped something into the pillow cases we were using for bags. When we got home, we asked our mom what were these things in the wrapper. It was the first time we had Pop-tarts, but we had seen the commercials. We eagerly toasted them, started eating them, and let’s just say we didn’t ask our mother to buy more.

And really, these days Pop Tarts are really just a gateway drug to Pillsbury Toaster Strudel.

ETA: and now that I scan the thread more thoroughly, I see @Smapti has already beaten me to their mention. They are still a far more dark and dreary hole to go into, because they are sooooo damn tasty and require sooooo little work.

On the pop tart front, I think you’re insane if you don’t toast them. Room temp? Ehh, I could have just eaten a handful of Lucky Charms for my sugar blast, instead.
