I’m back in town from a week of Wholesome Family Togetherness and what do I find awaiting me? Secret Santa gift! YAY!!
It is from GRAVITY and FLASHPOINT, who sent me, in addition to a cool card (with the best picture of Spiffy the Christmas Sheep [sup]TM[/sup] I’ve ever seen) and a Vermont pin, a . . .
Shakespeare Action Figure!
Which is totally the perfect gift for me, since I love to write and to read (including the words of the great you-know-who) and the idea of a literary action figure just tickles me. Plus he’s cute, poseable, and comes with removable accessories (quill pen and book).
I love him. If he were taller and less plastic, I would marry him. He is going to me office to live on my desk. GRAVITY is a Secret Santa par excellance.
A thousand thank-yous, GRAVITY anad FLASHPOINT. Hope your holidays were great.
I got mine! I was out of town for Christmas, and it was waiting for me when I got back. It’s a totally cool windchime thingee. That doesn’t do it justice, as it involves stained glass, a huge butterfly, delightful swoopy lines and is just fantastic! Thanks, Kricket!
I opened mine from Twickster on Christmas. I got a calender of prints that are Escher like. I really like those kinds of prints so this is a great gift.
Wow, I had some trouble getting on the boards yesterday…making my belated thank you even more belated!
Thank you, Secret Santa, whose name is still secret, for the Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty (just what I wanted!) and the Bright-Eyed Writer pens (they have little animals on top that light up as you write, and you can squeeze them to make their eyes bug out) which provided such great entertainment for my whole family on Christmas Eve.
I’m glad you like the pen, racer72! I’m very glad that it arrived on time.
We still haven’t gotten anything. I hope our SS was just tardy in getting the package in the mail; UncleBill never got his SS gift last year either, and it really bums me out that some people sign up for this and never send a gift.
Wow! I got the most wonderful and lavishly illustrated storybook from auRa!
It was very exciting to receive something from Finland in any case. And when I opened it I found a very cool decorated postcard and this beautiful book called *Santa Claus: A book about Santa and his Elves at Mount Korvatunturi, Finland." Fortunately, the book is in English. So, the Finnish Santa lives in Lapland, not the North Pole…who knew! The book describes the whole means by which the presents are planned, produced, and distributed. And there is an elf named Arthur, like the BeanSprout!
We’ll be enjoying this book for years to come! I have a feeling it will become part of our family’s long-standing Christmas tradition.
Hyvaa Joulua, auRa! (hopefully I got that more or less right…)
Hey Siege! I got your fabulous present and card yesterday. I can’t wait to start reading! It’s Curses! Broiled Again!, a book about urban legends (portable Snopes). It really looks awesome and I know I’ll enjoy edumacating myself – I already spotted a couple that I hadn’t heard before, which will make it even more fun.
And as for hand-knitted mittens, all I can say is, “Yes please!”. Thank you!
Apparently, mine came in yesterday (I’d been gone visiting a friend for Christmas) and all I can say is…
Wow Aries28, thank you! I really liked the chocolates. Oh man, who wouldn’t?! And the snowman snow globe is just the cutest thing ever.
However, the item that had me all goofy-like, were the Garbage Pail Kids cards. Where ever did you find those? I can’t get any around here and having been too old/cool for them in the 80s, I’ve since regressed enough to truly enjoy how neato they are now.
Thank you, thank you and thank you some more. For this having been a really crappy holiday, your gifts made it much brighter.
You rock!
Oh, and Annie-Xmas, I’m so glad you enjoyed it all. I wanted it to be special for someone with such an appropriate name. Drink up and have a super duper Happy New Year!!!
Papaveraceae funny you should mention that as I got my box ‘o’ pressies in the mail yesterday (29th).
I got chocolate and candles and a hopping frog that makes me laugh everytime I walk past and all the guys at work today were making rude shapes with the mini playdo/plasticine pack and leaving them on my desk. : sigh : boys will be boys…
Thankyou muchly & Happy Holidays!
I’m glad you liked them. As I explained, they’re a hometown product. The fact that you found them waiting for you after a long yucky 12 hour shift is just the type of serendipity that I love to hear about.
Oh, don’t worry, Elaella, they did. It’s just that work and hamster slowdowns have kept me from posting here. Had I not called in sick today, I still might not have posted!
Boy am I ever happy my present made it there while it was still 2003! Glad you like the book, Green Bean. As I said before, it’s one of my childhood favorites, by Mauri Kunnas, one of Finland’s most well-beloved and widely-acclaimed children’s writers.
And OxyMoron, thank you for the Times. I think the best way to learn about other countries and cities is to read magazines that deal with local affairs, so the Sunday edition was a really welcome gift. Plus your comments, of course. And you finished the crossword, but I did the puzzle underneath it. No puns involving chickens in that one, thank goodness.
