The Great MMP Semi-Offical List of Mumpers for this Week

To expand: I used to have an FN FAL. I prefer not to curse, so I like effin’ more than the non-euphemism. Effin’ sounds like FN, so…

I didn’t think anyone would get it, but I’m glad someone did.

Worked. did Second Sort, napped, laundered. Made Asian BBQ Stir
fry for dinner. Not the best week at the hub, a driver got murdered downtown :(, and another got busted for dealing meth. :open_mouth:

So it’s a Hi Power snow?

Awwwww, we still love you, Cupcakes.

I’m in!
And the frozen piles suck. :frowning:

I spoke too soon. Plumber guy found two leaks that will need to be repaired next week when I’m not paying double time labor like I did today. $532 to thaw the pipes. Than I had to chase around town to buy pipe heater cables, insulation, etc. so another $400 dollars. Old house, unheated basement, old galvanized pipes, ya da, ya da. I’m not even sure all the pipes stayed thawed. Got all the faucets open and trickling, such as they are. Tomorrow roommate will help me measure tape plug-in insulate a basements worth of pipes. I’m trying not to cry.

Made one Lowe’s Depot run but clerk B sold to some else the last 4 heater cables that clerk A had put aside for me when I called so will have to call around tomorrow on a long weekend Sunday and hope I can find more in stock in town where lots of pipes are freezing because it hasn’t been this cold here for at least 30 years. Wish me luck.

So good night all. Send hugs through the ether, I’ll need them. Already called my daughter and I won’t be having my Sunday with Harriet, obviously. There’s hope her preschool will cancel Monday because of the temps and they might need me to daycare Hattie there so the two parents can work from home, so there is some hope if I can just live til Monday. Emily, my daughter, also said I could come over for a few hour visit late one afternoon if the Monday doesn’t work out. She understands that Grandma loses her will to live if she goes too long without a dose of grandkid.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 43 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 50 and yet more rain today. Another good day to stay inside, dry, and warm. The big plan of the day is virtual deheathenization. We shall sup, most likely late N.O.L./early sup, on corned beast 'n cabbage with N.O.T. and carrots. YUM!

Boo sorry you are havin’ such a sucky time with frozen pipes and that you will miss your Sunday with your COTU. Hope you can find the heater cables today.

doggio sad about the UPS driver. He was a mere child!

Since I am an incurable romantic, I now offer the followin’ Valentine to all Mumpers:

I’M SENDING MY NOSE TO ARIZONA.
I’M SENDING MY LIVER TO PERU.
I’M SENDING MY KIDNEYS TO SYDNEY.
BUT, I’M SENDING MY HEART TO YOU!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sunday/St. Valentine’s Day Y’all!

Frozen piles would indeed suck - big time.

This is the most I’ve celebrated VD in eons. Spousal unit and I pretty much ignore it - always have. Bah, humbug! :stuck_out_tongue:

Biggest plan for today is hauling several bags of pellets out to the shop, then pushing the vacuum cleaner around to suck up cat hair. I also need to tread the mill - I’ve not done that in several days. Supper will be fried chicken from Chaptico Deli, making my evening easier. FCD wants to take his car to one of those DIY carwash thingies so he can rinse all the road salt off his precious Caddy. It’s supposed to get close to 40° today so maybe that’ll happen.

That’s pretty much the day’s anticipated excitement.

Happy Day Before Cheap Chocolate Day!!! :kissing_heart:

@SCAdian

I love corned beef and cabbage but my family not so much. An accidental discovery that is on the level of serendipity: I was picking through briskets at the market looking for meat for the smoker and accidentally picked up one that had been prepped for corned beef. I hit it with some brisket rub and put it in the smoker and at the end had the tastiest pastrami ever. Until that point I had not realized that pastrami is smoked corned beef.

Morning all. Slept reasonably well and have retrieved the paper from the driveway. 28F outside and predictions for freezing rain tomorrow, so any running about town will be done today for sure.

Not a corned-beef lover, never understood the appeal, but to each their own.

And a happy Valentine’s Day for those who celebrate it. Being a grumpy old bachelor, I don’t worry much about it.

BBBoo, sorry to hear about the pipes and the lack of heaters, hope nothing else goes wrong.

flyboy, herald, I had also figured out the FN reference (took me a bit), just wondered why you picked that company.

OK, need to finish waking up and warm the house. Dinner will be Logan’s Roadhouse Meatloaf a bit later on. All y’all have a good day.

Thanks everyone for the indeed verrryy sucky and expensive frozen pipes saga. Sitting here and reading instructions. Soon to drag housemate out of bed on her only day off and go into frigid basement to start measuring pipes and figuring. Out how many heat cables of which length we need to come out long enough but not too long.

Send me strength and old house fixing smarts through the karmic ether. I’ll need those manhattans and Vieux Carres at the end of the day.

Thanks moooommm for the swell Valentine! Enjoyed it lots! :o::x::bangbang::heart::heart::o::x::heart::heart::o::x::bangbang: :gift_heart::cupid::sparkling_heart::heartpulse::heartbeat::revolving_hearts:all!!

I’m sorry about your driver doggio. Such a young life cut short.

Happy Valentine’s day!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and in general, chilling. Today’s plans include virtually heathenizing and prepping the breakfasts / lunches for the week. I’ll play around in the studio, but the rest of the weekend chores are complete.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s drizzling here, cold and gloomy. Weather app says “The rain is icy and cold. Just like the gaze on a fucking ex-mother in law” and promises me 3C/37F up to 5C/40F, mostly cloudy with light rain. I much prefer that to snow, that’s for sure.

BBBoo sorry to hear about the frozen leaky pipe saga, that sounds horrible. Hope you manage to get it sorted out without too much fuss and bother!

We had cocktails on Friday, it’s become something of an end of the week tradition over the last few months. Espresso martinis and Margaritas are our cocktails of choice although I do want to find something that will use up the bottle of amarguinha. Time for some research before I do my next drinks order

I have no great plans for today, haven’t done any exercise for a couple of days so I think an hour of Rockfit will feature in my afternoon. My sciatica pain is better, which means I might be able to do a bit more without feeling like my leg’s going to drop off. That, followed by a soak in the bath and a few cups of tea sounds like a good way to spend the afternoon. I have an appointment at the eye hospital at 9am tomorrow so must remember to set the alarm for a sensible time so I can make myself presentable for dealing with the public.

:revolving_hearts: Happy Hearts and Flowers Day!:revolving_hearts:

Well, good morning. It’s a frigid 29 degrees and snowing. We received probably eight inches of snow, maybe more with the afternoon snow showers. My son, who lives south of me, received 15 inches of snow. It’s snowing now, but it’s supposed to turn to sleet, freezing rain, and then regular ol’ rain, so we are on the way to meltiness with the requisite ice skating rink preceding full melt.

I took Polar out for walkies and he greatly enjoyed himself. He also was lying in the snow on the back porch surveying his newly fenced kingdom. I will probably take him out for another snow walk once daylight breaks; as long is sleet isn’t falling. I don’t mind walking in snowfall or even light rain, but sleet is icky.

There are no big plans for today; just the usual Sunday stuff. I can’t remember the last time the hubby and I acknowledged Valentine’s Day. We had our 35th wedding anniversary toward the end of last month and all we did was tell each other Happy Anniversary. We really just try to do little special things all year. Little things; like picking up a favorite snack or treat; surprising each other with a favorite meal preparation, purchasing something the other has mentioned wanting.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean today. Gordie has done his business, in spite of the cold and damp. Also, for all you guys who ordered FTD flowers by Ground, instead of Next Day Air, so they get delivered Monday: It’s going to be a long, cold weekend in the doghouse. :dog2:

Riddle me this, smart phone users: Why do games keep appearing on my phone? I use my phone to text and make calls, and vary occasionally to surf. Yet in recent weeks, every so often when I log in, I find a new game app has shown up. What the ever-lovin’ F is going on??

FCD has gone to de-crud his car. Breakfast has been ingested and tidied. After we transport some pellets to the shop, I’m going to tread the mill. Then, who knows…

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you…
Check your phone settings and your Apple/Google store to see if you are set for auto downloads.

Gordie and Alex Catt are snoring loudly. The apartment sounds like I’m shoving cans of bees down the garbage disposal.

07:20. I’ve been up almost an hour. I’ve started cooking dinner.

I’m finally having a cup of coffee.

See my post #261.

09:43, and we finished breakfast about 15 minutes ago. I forgot to get another parcel of bacon out of the freezer, so I fried some leftover ham with our hashbrowns and over-easy eggs.

I’m going to have to trudge out to the shed later to get the snow shovel, then shovel a path so I can take the trash and recycling out. Then take out the trash and recycling. I should probably get the snow off of the Prius and see if it will move, too.

So I started the wine-braised short ribs first thing, violating my rule: Never get up before coffee. If you have to get up before coffee, have coffee first. After doing that, I cleaned the pan and other things I used. Then Mrs. L.A. said she’s hungry, so I cooked breakfast. Later I’ll have to disassemble the cauliflower for mashed roasted cauliflower to eat with the short ribs.

Sunday is a day of rest? Bollocks!

:anguished:

Tedious day at irk- I think they’re overstaffed for Sundays, but I don’t want to point this out, as I’m the short-term contractor, and I’d like my contract to be extended please…

Now I have to sit and wait for the housemates who appear to wait until precisely 5 minutes before I finish irking for the day to start cooking and take over the whole kitchen for 45 minutes. Often followed immediately by the nocturnal housemate, who surfaces at about the point they finish, to cook his indeterminate meal. This is not being good for my bank balance, as I start looking at the takeaway options every time…

*grump*

Happy Sunday, all. No big plans for the day. May actually open the door and get the mail that arrived yesterday. I am attempting corned chicken. I’ve got a breast in a really salty, brown sugar, and various spice brine, gonna let it go for a few days. Will report back with results, could be good or not.

I don’t want to get weird here, but I’d like to thank all of you for being so welcoming and friendly. These days I don’t have much contact with people. So far today the only words I’ve spoken were “Hey google, play NPR.” I may talk to the dog a bit. This here is most of my interaction most days, I live by myself and work by myself. So, thanks.

Flyboy Wine braised short ribs sound great.
Taters Is that Polar in your avatar? Skritches for him even if it isn’t.
Boo Good luck with the pipes.
