Late start for the kiddos this morning. School bot-called us at 5 a.m. to tell us all to go back to sleep. Naturally that was my cue to wander around in the dark, peeking out windows, to confirm I’d be able to get my car out of our very steep driveway until I dozed off about 20 minutes before my (revised) wakeup time. Eh.
I’m peeved because the day is long and full of meetings. Well, the first part anyway. Overlymom is happily taking the day off. She still has to see the doc this week, but I’m so, so, so relieved no more radiation. Hopefully her sores will have had a couple of days to heal. They say the side effects of treatment peak about a week after you stop, so hopefully she’ll be on the recovery side this time next week. And thanks for all the yays, guys! I’m so very excited for her.
I didn’t do my waddling last night but ate cookies and ice cream instead and suffered for it greatly this morning. Why do I do these things to myself? Oh yeah - because cookies and ice cream are both delicious.
Yes. Bills being paid off. I’m treating myself to the gift of silence instead of wolves howling at my door.
I don’t know where I picked up the imagery of bills = howling wolves, especially since I love big predators, and would be super excited to see a wolf - from behind the safety of a locked window, of course.
Slept IN like the heathen sloth that I am. Now I’m contemplating all that needs to be done, while derping around on my phone and accomplishing nothing.
The cats couldn’t stand the idea of not being let out, so I … let them out.
Have I mentioned that it’s been snowing nonstop for days?
Monkey dashed out … into snow up to his furry little armpits. He put on a brave show, though, and play-pounced on the snow a couple of times while looking back at me, to show that he was, in fact, having lotsa fun … before shooting back into the house like his tail was on fire.
Nikki - being an elderly matron with no patience for such unseemly behavior - sat primly on the 1.5 square inches of bare concrete by the door on the back steps for a moment, glared at ME (cuz the weather is my fault, plainly) then hustled back inside, growling the whole time. Whether she was growling at me, or at Monkey, or at the snow - or at life in general - is uncertain.
Now she has cat-loafed on a pillow near me, and gives off a mighty purrrrrrr at the merest touch. The fact that she’s right by a heating vent may be related.
Paying bills is definitely a case of treating yourself when the treat is the peace of mind you get. As for the wolves, you are keeping the wolf from the door!
The cats took a look outside and decided that the little bit of snow out there was far too much for their delicate sensibilities. Much snoozage has ensued for the day while the humans have been slaving away. Time to log off work now and venture out in the cold and dark on a supply run. Wouldn’t do to have insufficient cat food in the house!
Without 5 million emails a day from the new board, I slip behind in my posting.
The second week of working at home. We had 15 folks who either tested popsitive or were exposed. With all their associates, we had to close the joint for two weeks.
I seem to cruise the web less than I do at work with Mrs. Plant (v.3.0), dogs, cats and fish to care for.
Just finished hatching of the fifth spawn of neon gobies. The longest lasted ten days. Marine fish fry are much more larval than fresh water fish.
Thanks, but I can’t take credit for the colors too much. The yarn was donated so I worked with what I had. Some were partial skeins, some colors had multiple skeins, so it was a challenge making it all work.
The one with squares was a bit inspired, if I may say so. There were a bunch of partial skeins of variegated yarns that really wouldn’t have worked together. I found the pattern for the square on line and I really liked it. I’d hoped there’d be enough of the green to edge all the squares, but as you can see, I had to edge a few with the purple (just because.) I’m pleased with the result, and it’s really warm.
Back from Aldi. I got a nice hunk of corned beef, so one meal this weekend will be corned beef and cabbage - yum! Weather and traffic will determine if they come here Firday or Sat - FCD doesn’t want to get caught in end-of-week rush hour on the DC beltway.
Break over - time to clean two pellet stoves. Rah.
I remembered the important stuff from my German class back in the late 70s.
FCD just now called me from Nashville. They’re about to get off I-24 on to I-65. I just finished cleaning both pellet stoves. At the moment, I’m taking a banana break. I don’t eat them often enough - yum!
I think I’ve earned some recliner time with my crochet hook.
Hippie, that recipe looks really good. Going to have to try it someday soon.
Mooom, those are great! I especially like the one with the squares and the one with the diagonal stripes.
Ich möchte lieber Erdbeeren mit Schlagsahne.
‘Männer der Tiefe.’ Soll ganz toll sein.
Wenn es nicht geregnet hätte, hätte meine Mutter es nicht gekauft.
The books we used in the early '70s were Sprechen und Lesen (first year) and Verstehen und Sprechen (second year). Kept my copies; they should be down in the basement somewhere. Can’t remember if we actually had a textbook for third year – mostly we read novels: Die drei Kameraden, Immensee, and Die Verwandlung.
Amazing! FedEx delivered the package to my porch right by the front door!! But it was a real FedEx employee, not a contractor in a rented truck. Anyway - huzzah!!
FCD called about an hour ago from Louisville. According to their GPS, they should get to his aunt’s around 7 or so. He sounded tired - no surprise there.
As for books - mine was called Deutsche Heute and it’s on a shelf across the room from me. We also had a novel (of sorts) called Geheime Mission, about industrial espionage and lipstick that changed color.
Now, I’m going to order something for supper because I’m starving and I don’t feel like cooking. What to get and where to get it from?? I’ll peruse offerings in Leonardtown and decide accordingly.
I would like to, and we will, but TJs is an hour’s drive away, so who knows when we’ll get up that way again… The ones we like can be had at Fred Meyers (Kroger) or Safeway, both of which are 10 minutes away and our usual grocery gettin’ stores.
But thanks for telling me about them. You’re a peach.
BTW, we each have one after dinner for dessert. They’re that good.
Made a visit to Costco this morning. We are now stocked up on TP and paper towels. Also scored some corned beef! We usually can only find corned beef around here just before St. Paddy’s day, so I’m happy.
My annoyance for this week: Last week I called my gastro guy for an appointment. The nice person I talked to said I needed to fill out some forms and she would send me a link to sign to their website and a password to sign in. I wrote it down on a piece of paper in front of the (Wifey’s) computer, thinking I would use it in a few minutes.
Remember, this was last week.
The email with the link arrived yesterday.
Of course, by them the piece of paper had disappeared.
I just spent half an hour on the phone with a nice tech person named Robin getting myself signed in.
Forms are all filled out now.
I know. First world problems.
Supper tonight is leftover corn chowder from last night.
