The Great MMP Semi-Offical List of Mumpers for this Week

Late afternoon all. Very little accomplished outside of not taking a nap and fixing some early dinner (Mac-n-Cheese). Agreed to be the coordinator for the U7 soccer teams, which means I get to put the teams together and recruit (beg) for coaches. Our numbers were down nearly 50% for the Fall, I wonder if the Spring will be any better.

FCM, hope they let FCD sleep in tomorrow; that’s one heck of a push. Think my longest day-drive was about 820 miles from St. Louis to Denver and that’s when I was in my 40’s. And congrats on the Fedex delivery.

Bumba, the Arabs have a word for your situation; In’shallah (as God wills it). Used whenever something (anything) doesn’t go as planned.

Dicey, FCM, flyboy, only German I know is what I learned from watching old WWII movies and one dirty word I learned from my HS Soccer Coach (he was also the German teacher).

shoe, glad you got your check; mine was the munificent total of $13.55…could probably buy a bone for the wolf with that…

OK, Mac and Cheese is happily digesting, so onward into the evening. All y’all take care.

seanette, your irkplace sounds like hell. From my time in Quality Assurance, albeit, in manufacturing, I know that when the company was facing downsizing, we were ordered to ramp up our pickiness. Folks would then quit without benefit of an unemployment check. Dirty rotten bastiges.

Mooooooooom, have you considered putting a heavy piece of furniture on the part of the rug that won’t lie flat? :stuck_out_tongue: I like the diagonally striped afghan in your collection. Looks like FCD and his folks passed within waving distance of me about lunchtime.

While my paternal grandmother was fluent in German (actually her first language as a first generation American) and my paternal grandfather being conversational (Polish immigrant with several languages under his belt and married to the above grandmother), it wasn’t offered at my high school, so I took Latin, French and Spanish.

Irked and came home to a lovely springish afternoon. Of course, ice storms are predicted beginning tomorrow evening. That’s OK, I’ll just stay in.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

They arrived just before 8 after close to 16 hours on the road. Phase 1 of the Great Tour is done. So I can relax for a few days while they’re not driving. Whew!

Howdy Y’all! Laundry, sloth, makin’ and eatin’ sup with clean up, and more sloth filled the day today. Also been rainin’ all dang day! Tomorrow may be more rain, or not.

Read all, but retained little. For some reason I am also sleepified, so maybe an early night is what I need.

Moooom, I concur with red. I got a (cheap) area rug for my dining area, and one corner refused to lie flat. I tried steam, ironing, etc but the only thing that worked was to stack all my heaviest books on that corner for a couple of weeks. With your in-laws visiting, books might present a tripping hazard (as would the upturned corner), but so would the rug.

BTW, gorgeous lap robes!

I saw a tip to roll the area rug opposite from the way it was delivered, so I did. I can leave it that way a couple of days and see how it goes. But if something heavy is to be put on it, that likely won’t happen till after they go back.

Tomorrow I think I may run the carpet cleaner over the living room area rug. I know it has a few cruddy spots. And I think I’ll bake some 'nanner bread. I have a tentative meal schedule and there are perishables I need to get thru the week. I’ll make a list tomorrow.

But for now, sleepage is in order.

Mrs. L.A. is feeling poorly. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, It’s been going on for a couple of days. She stopped taking her antibiotics after her emergency appendectomy because she got a yeast infection. She called the post-op unit this morning and twice after that. Someone finally called around 18:00. She’s going in for a blood test tomorrow, and I heard her say she’d try to get a stool sample. The person she talked to said she was going to report the nurse who never got back to Mrs. L.A.

Tonka seems to be blind. He’s spending most of his time on mom’s bed, but comes out to beg for morsels of hooman-food. He’s been slowing down for over a year, and I fear he’s on his way out. Mrs. L.A. just went to bed (I told her that if she needs to go to the ER, don’t let me sleep!) so she and Goo are both with Tonka.

And I’m massively in debt and I’m bored with my job and temperatures will get down into the teens this week.

ugh

Ugh, flyboy, that’s waaaaay too much crud to deal with. Hope poor Mrs. LA is OK. Glad the negligent nurse will be reported. Coincidentally, I had a similar situation with a nurse who (deliberately) didn’t return my call, even though she had no patients that day. It meant many additional hours of pain and delayed the diagnosis. delayed the diagnosis. She got fired shortly thereafter. Anyway, keep us posted.

Hang in there, Tonka! The LA’s have too much going on right now to lose you. Sending affectionate scritchels.

Gut, danke. Und du? Ich wünsche deine Frau, «Gute Besserung!»

And that’s it for writing in German before 8:00 am. When I would be in the office, I was used to talking in German quite early. But I rarely write in German, just emails for contacting a plumber, etc.

And now that I have figured out that I have no idea how to make the local quote marks on my computer, I think I’ll switch to my work computer.

And watch the falling slush.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave and sort.

I took one year of German, and 3 of French in high school, but it’s all Greek to me. :amphora:

Morning, mumpers! Cold and icy here today, we had more snow overnight but not much, except it’s all frozen now so look rather slippery out there. Weather app says “It’s chilly and the sun is a deceptive fucking asshole” whilst promising me -1C/30F up to 0C/33F and mostly sunny. It is sunny out there, no denying it, but doubt it will be enough to even start a melt going.

I have adulted this morning, got an email from the garage telling me my car is due for an MoT and service so I used their online process to book it in and pay for it in advance. It’s not due until 23rd March but at least I’ve got that bit sorted out.

Grocery shopping was achieved last night without any drama, except for the fact that there were only two checkouts open and the person in front of me seemed to be very picky about how they packed stuff into plastic bags, and then attempted to pay with every last bit of loose change they’d got. Including rifling through pockets…

Team meeting this morning, I need a strong cup of tea before that starts.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of
< snerk > 69! < snerk > and maybe rainy this afternoon. Or not. TWPTB are once again in willy-nilly mode. We shall procure victuals today and I must needs betake myself over to the church house and deal with some church janitor Junior Warden stuff. We shall have pancakes and snausages for sup just cause.

Flyboy hope Mrs. L.A. is feelin’ better today. Hope you got some rest as well. Poor Tonka!

BooFae readin’ that you have a team meetin’ this mornin’ brought a smile to my face. I smile cause I no longer have to deal with such things. Have I mentioned lately how much I like bein’ a retired drain on society?

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas and bother, I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life is just so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

:astonished: I have been remiss! :astonished:

Happy Doggio Day!!!

It appears my circadian rhythm is changing in retirement. I don’t fall asleep till nearly midnight, then I wake around 7. It’s not a huge deal, because, yanno, retired, but it’s weird because for so many years, my day started around 5. It’s almost as if I’m losing 2 hours! :open_mouth:

Lots of little things to do today. Since the electric blanket was delivered yesterday, I can finish making up the guest room today. I’m also going to clean the area rug in the living room and I think first thing I’m going to make a trash/recycling run ahead of the weather. Plus the truck really needs to be driven once in a while, so this will be that while.

I pulled the overripe 'nanners out of the freezer and they’re thawing in the fridge. I think I’ll bake the 'nanner bread tomorrow. I bought a 10# sack of russets and I’m thinking at least half or them will be twice baked - I may do the first bake today.

The big question is the weather and how it will affect FCD’s return. I’m hearing somewhat disturbing forecasts for the next few days, tho I haven’t looked at what’s threatened farther west along I-70, mainly Indiana and Ohio. I’ll be comparing various sources to help them figure out when to drive back here.

So, another busy day in store. Happy Wednesday!!

Afternoon all. The board decided I wasn’t allowed to post on the MMP yesterday, for some reason.
Happy Doggio day!

The snow’s still hanging around, but it’s sunny, and starting to melt, so the road’s more or less clear now. It happens so rarely here, there’s no real coordination about who’s doing what when it comes to clearing snow away.

It’s a quiet booooring day at irk, probably due to the snow slowing things up. There’ll probably be a mad rush later to compensate, but I’m not working tomorrow.

Well.

I say I’m not working tomorrow, but I’m now signed up for a 2 hour meeting and possibly a site visit, while today I am working, and I’m doing nothing… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My high school had mandatory language classes in either Spanish or Latin. I absorbed both Spanish and Italian from the neighborhood, so I selected Spanish.

Happy birthday doggo.

I hope Mrs. LA is getting better

Back in the olden days, I had my first French class in 9th grade (school year 1968-69) and decided at that point that I wanted to teach French. It really had nothing to do with the crush on the student teacher… really…

Anyway, I had 4 years of French and 3 years of Spanish in high school, then 2 semesters of French the first time I went to college, before I dropped out and joined the Navy. When I went back (for my engineering degree) I took 2 semesters of German because languages are pretty easy for me and I needed an easy class.

The first semester was great - the instructor was a German woman from Berlin. This was before the wall came down, FWIW. The second semester was taught by a grad student, and she sucked mightily! I hated the class and it was the last language class I ever took.

I remembered enough French that the 3 times I was in France, I got along fine. I’ve had coworkers from Puerto Rico and Spain, and while we never conversed in Spanish, I’d overhear things occasionally that made me giggle. And when I was in Spain with the Navy, I got along well enough. In fact, when I was in Sicily, even tho I never studied Italian, I was able to fake my way with my limited knowledge of Romance languages.

Maybe I should take a class again, when the plague is over. Just for fun.

Happy Birthday, Doggio!!

Johnny, I hope the Mrs. is feeling better - or is getting the right care toward feeling better.

This may be more appropriate for the Pit, but one of my daughter’s friends exposed her to some really explicit porn day before yesterday as a “joke.” My daughter - who is 11 - is not allowed to have tik tok for very specific reasons. We also have a very strong firewall for very specific reasons. Which is why I am beyond ticked (ha) that her best friend shared this garbage with her via zoom. Anyway, overlygirl was terrified she’d get into trouble (she didn’t - must’ve taken a lot of balls to tell me in the first place and thank god she trusts me enough to do so) and that I’d tell her friend’s mom. (Darn skippy I told the friend’s mom.) I get that this is not unusual in this day and age, but for Pete’s sake, despite all the clear biological explanations I’ve given her about sex, she was completely unprepared for this. So we talked about consent, and intimacy, and that kinda stuff but I swear to god I’m still screaming inside. Is 70% of parenting adolescents screaming inside? I didn’t sign up for this.

So that’s how my day is going. Oh, and it’s a snow day for the kids. At least my son got to sleep in.

I’d had four years of German in High School and one year in middle school. By the time I graduated, I was fluent and would occasionally dream in German. I met a girl from Bonn the summer after I graduated, who said I had a good Munich accent.

And then I didn’t use it again for thirty-some-odd years. I sort of regret I didn’t follow my mother’s cousin’s advice and go for the Foreign Service, but if I had, I would not have met Mrs Magill, so winning!

I had a hard time sleeping again last night, so getting up this morning was a struggle. I did manage to fit in thirty-five minutes on the trainer. The Fitbit says I’d used 250 calories on that, so I can afford on of the cinnamon raison bagels she had picked up for me. Yum.
