The I can't sleep so I might as well start the MMP

I’m here! I don’t think you can call it a slothful day if you stripped the bed AND did laundry. Pat yourself on the back for those accomplishments!

Didn’t get to liquor store, as a friend arrived, bearing gifts. I’ll go tomorrow.

I need to return today for exchange and do-over. It was totally defective. About all that can be said as a plus is that there have been no injuries and we are no worse off than before we left (except for now I’m feeling rather annoyed with DH for sulking).

Oil change also turned into a surprise “tire needs to be replaced urgently” (DH did verify that yes, the tire in question really was that bad), and BTW, we should try to budget two more tires and an alignment in the not-too-distant future.

En route to the animal shelter, MIL called her son. DH insisted this must be done on speaker-phone, which he is incapable of conversing on below a shout. We were in heavy traffic. I, being the driver, insisted this was a safety hazard, so he got sullen about being asked to call her back at a safer time.

At the shelter, discovered that contrary to the shelter’s website, they do not adopt out the type of bird we were there to see. This was the second time we’d wasted a trip out there.

Stopped at McDonald’s for very slow service (15 minutes really is a bit excessive, IMO), flat soda, and a burger for me that managed to be both nearly burned and noticeably pink in the middle. Considering the quarter-pound patty is not that thick, I’m at a loss as to how both were achieved at the same time.

I popped over to a nearby grocery store for a few things. After spending several minutes hunting down an empty cart, then looking for desired goods, I had five items in my cart. One express lane had some dim bulb stocking up for a week or two. In the other, when I got into the line, the woman in front of me promptly waved another shopper over in front of me. She had a full cart. I gave up, put back my perishables, abandoned the rest, and left empty-handed. All the other lines were way too slow to deal with.

Heck – better than that – she has an account here. And since I am not going to be the top of the page I won’t go through the convoluted process to include this with any reply I have from said next page.

I took it more as you wanting the top of the page. Or in other words some certain people being a good influence on you! :smack:

But on the other hand – I went in for a special scheduled shift to deal with a planned influx of same-day stuff and after we were half set up for it we were told it had just been cancelled. So I did a couple hours or cleaning and readying and then bailed. We not only get Christmas off but my shift has the 26th off as well. And New Years Day. I guess they looked down the roster and looked at who they could count on to show up sober at 06:30 and decided ------- it just ain’t worth it.
Back at the Old Jungle, our first NYD ------- the ops manager and shift manager came out at 09:30 expecting about 100-120 people; they had 27. Calls were quickly made and volunteers arrived. Second shift after noon did better but it was still a struggle to get everything out. Seattle learned.

Getting the in-laws’ Echo set up required a new modem and a new router. Both were pretty ancient anyway. But now, Alexa is at our command. So yay!

I’m about to crash since last night was less than restful. Here’s hoping tonight will be better…

Not if the question is, “Who would like some good bread?”

I went to the Maul today. Didn’t buy a thing; just walked around (it was warmer than outside & I saw a car pull out six spaces from the door of the first aisle I drove down) & remembered the old times when there were actually people in a retail environment…now get off my lawn!

Do the Doggio method. Drink some on the [del]way[/del] stagger home & drop the emp’y bottlessh in the neighborssh trassssh canssh.
Then I did some light painting & chased Santa on a firetwuck for some more.

The lil’wrekker and her sweetie are entertaining-baby sitting me. I told them to go do young people things, they just laughed at me. A bowl game is on. She’s expaining football to him. I’m cracking up. She’s such a girl.

Have a good evening, all

Firetwuck just came thru our neighborhood. Glad I don’t have any little ruggus rattuses who were waiting. They also went down the main street, not any of the side streets, where there are actual houses. They’re a VFD so one can’t get too mad at them but man, something got screwededed up this year.

Now I’m doing lawn dairy (need to do 4 loads by noon tomorrer). Wrapping things, having a cinnamon roll…& [del]wasting time[/del] fighting ignorance.

Cold today. Canes didn not win.:frowning: But there was Irish gin at the tailgate.

I have a bow tie. And a fez. Fezzes are cool.

:dubious:

Nothing says “I mean business” like using a cart at the Likker Sto.

I am cursed by my booze evaporating before I can consume it.:frowning: ;):stuck_out_tongue: The least I can do is recycle.

Huh. You guys are changing the way I think about this. Maybe I could stick some MD 2020 stickers on the cart. Mount a little klaxon horn on the top. Get some fancy straws for the trip home. I bet people would fall back in awe, or…you know…trip over their feet as they flee.

Mornin’ all.

Happy winter Solstice, for them in the Northern hemisphere at least!

I’m heading off today for the first leg of the annual Christmas migration, just as far as Bristol today. Still not really planned when I’m coming back; possibly staying in Bristol for New Years as well.
It all got a bit complicated due to the axolotls, they’re very low maintenance, but do require a small amount of food to be tipped in at least every 5 days or so. The people I’ve previously asked to do it are a now former classmate, who I’ve seen a total of once this year, and a now former workmate, who I’ve not seen since I quit. Neither live very close. I bumped into the nice lady from the flat downstairs, and she’d said no problem, she’s not going away these holidays, she could do it, just knock on the door some evening and drop the key round with instructions. I knocked on the door every evening since, and got no reply… Either she’s been working late or was hiding behind the couch when she heard me knock.
Cue a bit of a panic yesterday, 'cos I’d firmly arranged a trip over the 5 days limit, and, assuming someone who lived in the same building who said she’d be able to feed ‘em, I’m not arranged a backup. The only other neighbour I really speak to here has really bad arthritis right now, he can barely walk, so getting at the tank, which involves basically kneeling in an awkward corner (the roof is only 4’ above the floor in the corner with the tank in) just wasn’t gonna happen. I had to go knock on the door of the guys downstairs, who I’ve maybe spoken to twice since I moved in, and ask them. Luckily they were nice about it (and even brought their cute kitty for a quick visit!)
Now I just really need to nip to the allotment and empty the compost, and I’m readyish to go, I think. I’ll get halfway there then realise I’ve forgotten something, but that inevitably happens.

Happy Christmas those who celebrate, have a nice humbug those who don’t!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and rainin’ with a predicted high of 54 and rain all day. We are under a flood watch and a wind advisory. The big plan of the day is to deheathenate (I have ush duty) and then back to da cave. We shall nosh sammiches for N.O.L. and Ima make chili and cornbread for sup purposes. Yestiddy I did get a haircut. I was in and out of there within an hour which made me happy cause I was worried the place would be packed this bein’ the weekend before Crimmus and all. Left there, swung by the Booger King to get us some N.O.L., got back to da cave and chilled away the rest of the day. I remembered to take the turkey breast outta da freezer and get it into da fridge to thaw. Go Me!

MOOOOOOM glad y’all made it safe and sound.

Nuts have a great trip!

Anyone else who may be takin’ off for parts unknown today, be safe and have a great trip!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Happy Sunday!

It’s another nippy morning, 18 degrees outside. Supposed to get up to whopping 48 degrees today. I told my son he had to vaccum leaves. Today is the last day the city is picking up yard waste until March. I already have a big pile of compostable bags filled with leaves in the hole out back, I don’t know how many more I want to put in there.
He’s going to balk at it, but I’ll point out to him that anything the city doesn’t pick up means a trip to the dump.

Have a safe trip Nuts, and MetalMouse, and glad you arrived safely Mooooommmm.

Nothing much planned for today, going to the park this morning, irking, and sitting out front while my son vacuums leaves. I still have broccoli/ham/cheese soup, and ground beef left in the fridge - no need to cook. I hate to cook, so leftovers always make me happy.

Had a pretty good sleep and we’re all going to CB for breakfast. That’s as far as today is planned. Much chillage shall ensue.

Happy Sunday!!!

Party on

Firetwucks returned around 3:30; went down one specific side street.

They were still here, cleaning up, a little after 7am when the rest of the twucks came back.  It was even bigger than the first time; this time it took on the neighbors house, too. We were talking, thought is the first house will need to come down. Not down to the studs, down & start over. :frowning:

Don’t want to sit thru those AARs.

Morning all. Laundry, dishwasher use and wrapping presents are my goals today. My neighbors stopped by with presents for me, I was in slippers and blue jeans without a shirt, but they overlooked it (I think) and I gave them their (unwrapped) gifts since they are leaving today for…New York City (is going to New York for Christmas a thing??).

Rain is here and looks to be sticking around for awhile. 46F going only to 50F. Hope it gets through here by tomorrow so I can drive to Brother’s.

Glad you got some help with the lizards, Nut; now if they remember to do it…

Keep getting a pop-up saying I have low disk space, have tried to clear several items that should improve it, but keeps coming up. Good thing I plan to get a new 'puter after new years with (shudder) Windows 10.

All y’all take care.

Blurfage. Tis windy and threatening rain, temp is 75F so coolish for here. I still have the A/C on.

Not much planned for today. I have already done the dishes. I could do some laundry and I really need to go grocery shopping which may or may not happen. I have not even began to plan any meals for the holiday. It’s done snuck up on me. I have a few gifts to wrap but they can’t go under the tree lest pup gets them. I broke down and gave him one of his new toys and in about five minutes he had begun to tear it up. I don’t know why I bother. The other ones are for aggressive chewers so they may last longer.

I only have a few things for hubs since he is very hard to buy for. He is going to pay off my credit card bill for Christmas which is great. I don’t need any more stuff. I already have way too much stuff.

Happy Sunday.

Awakened by Siamese noises. Fed and petted. They have bathed and are sleeping in a pile on the cat tree.
It’s candy day for me and grandwreks. The lil’wrekker will help. As well as her BF.
Son-of-a-wrek brought presents for me to wrap.
I will have to cook a pot of something for supper. Not sure what yet.
Dreary, overcast day.
All you guys on road trips be careful and have fun!!!
Happy no Sunday!

Indeed, they are. I have one (or two), but I doubt Mrs. L.A. would let me wear one. (She did ‘tut tut’ me when I came home Friday wearing the bow tie.) I bought my fez from the Shriners in the early-'90s, because I didn’t know where else to get one. I went to a Halloween party where I painted my face like a skull, wore the fez and a Marie Laveau’s Voodoo Shop T-shirt, and carried a skeleton/skull walking stick. I wish the fez wasn’t so tall. I think it would look better as a shorter, more ‘traditional’ one, instead of the tall ones Shriners wear.

It’s quite tropical in no. Illinois. Got the car washed this morning as it was 30 with N.O.S. and a high in the 40s. Tomorrow is supposed to be 50. Went to the grocery store at 8 am to avoid the crowds. Getting my hairs cut in an hour, then spending the rest of the day chilling. I saw the movie Knives Out yesterday and in the words of Men on Film, hated it.
