I’m also always suspicious of a 0 nitrate reading- I don’t think I’ve ever got a perfect 0 off any of mine, there’s always at least some.
I think 12 gallons might be a bit too small for goldfish, for all that people keep 'em in tiny bowls

As someone already posted, that is small for goldfish. I’d do water changes every other day.
Feeders aren’t treated well in the “factory”, shipping or the store. 
We had a feeder goldfish that lived for many, many months in the standard little round goldfish bowl - that was one tough fish!!!

In other news, we got another weird phone call this morning on the land line. First off, we’ve gotten several of these, the last one was about a month ago. They block caller ID, it just shows “private number.” Then when you answer the phone, they say they want to speak to so and so, someone I definitely did NOT know. Then when I tell them that, they get indignant. They know where I live and they have my daughter’s name, and apparently someone, the person they are looking for, has given my daughter’s name as a POC. I truthfully say that “no, I am not her (my daughter), but what are they looking for her for?” They won’t tell me that only ask if I would pass on a message for them to the person that they are looking for. Good grief! I asked who they were, they asked who I was, and I wouldn’t tell them, so I hung up on them. They called right back - this time I did not pick up - and left a rather nasty, loud voice mail. WTF?!
They mention something about some claims and give an 866 number to call, but I’m not calling. I honestly do not know who they are looking for, but it’s not my daughter or myself, I do know that. LOL Any suggestions and/or comments are welcome!

It’s a rainy day, 64 degrees wit6h a high of… 64 degrees. I guess this is as good as it gets, but at least it is rain and not snow.
Lunch with my friend today. I wish my package from amazon was here because even though we don’t do gifts I saw something i know she’d love ad got it for her anyway.
I used to get feeder fish. One day I was picking out the ones I wanted at the pet store and the clerk said these are feeder fish not pets, you don’t get to pick out the ones you want. I said yeah but every now and again the cat gets one, and so she agreed they were feeder fish and let me pick out the ones I wanted.

Goldfish are a puzzle. So many people keep them in little bowls, and they seem to do OK, and then some people say 12 gallons is too little for one. I’m sure the truth is somewhere between those extremes.
We used to have one that was found abandoned in about two inches of nasty water after someone moved out of an apartment. He seemed quite happy after we put him into a two gallon tank with a filter, and lived another two years or so until a nearby apartment was fumigated. We didn’t know about that until we came home and smelled it. When we asked at the office, their response was pretty much “No pets allowed!”
Thanks! Given the various bits and bobs I’ve read in MMPs, I’ve gathered that you seem to do customer support or something from home. Do you have set hours, or can you just log in for a certain amount of time per day and you’re good? Do you need a dedicated phone line, or can you just use your existing landline? Is the pay any good at all? Are there benefits? Do you absolutely hate your job? How did you find it?
Et cetera. It would really be great to not have to go out and search for a job when I move–and even better if I didn’t need to buy clothes for whatever dress codes I come up against. I’ve seen various things I can do from home for a couple bucks here and there (I’m strongly considering becoming a phone psychic), but I’d rather have one real, paying job than five part-timers.
Goldfish need more oxygen than tropical fish, and soil the water more. They will live in small tanks, the major advantage is having more water if something goes wrong.
Happy Firday! I can’t say I look forward to this weekend since it’s packed with chores on accounta the holidays. Plus it’s flipping cold (high of 21 F) so I won’t be spending much time outside at the barn with Bob.
In other news, I spent yesterday afternoon at the dentist with a vague toothache. The tooth is fine (no abscess, the roots and nerves look good, etc) so the dentist asked me "any stress in the last month?’ Oh, like my brother dying and my other brother with advanced liver cancer and my sister who is not handling this at all??? Bottom line, I’m clenching my teeth so I’m getting a nght-time “apparatus.” Joy. And my poinsettias (see post pages ago) really stank up the office so I pitched them.
I am going to miss Santarchy this year; at least Pittsburgh’s. There is a special event we were invited to at Kennywood Park, a one-time behind the scenes thing, sooooooo -----------

They are debt collectors. They are using any info they can find on the Internet that might remotely connect them to the debtor so they can keep the statute of limitation (or whatever it is) open. I occasionally get one looking for my ex-husband even though we have been divorced for nearly 30 years. Normally I ignore the call if I see private number, but if I accidentally do answer I simply say “You have the wrong number.” and hang up.
Gotti, dear old Mom had a fusion and it was a long hard recovery. I feels for ya. And the goldfish, too.
I am nearly done with my Xmas shopping. Just a couple odds and ends now. Phew! Let the wrapping begin!
