The I'm up early MMP!

Got down to 28 overnight. Frost on the windshield this morning. Fortunately I wasn’t running late.

Rosie - thanks for the poem.

It is day five with no chocolate. I’m sure my character is being exercised.

Did I tell y’all my lunch date cancelled?

My friend is sick so lunch if off. I just finished up the last of the lasagna.

ok Drae

It depends on what company you work for and you’d be surprised how many people work from home. I know because I ask, talking to AT&T, some of the reps work from home. Same with Sprint and GeekSquad.
Once I called GeekSquad and not only could I tell the rep was at a party, he must have a had few drinks during our conversation because by the end - well I just hung up and called back to get the next person in the queue.

Some companies are going to expect regular hours with scheduled breaks and lunch. I have a friend who works like that. She has a separate office in her home and the company supplied her computer and pays for everything.
Some companies expect a dedicated phone line, usually has to be a land line and some require high speed internet access. Some even require a dedicated office space.
I’m lucky, my company prefers a land line but we can use our cell phones as long as calls aren’t being dropped. We have to have internet access but it doesn’t have to be high speed.

Some companies pay by the hour, you are an employee and get treated as such. Some companies pay by the call/sale and you are a contractor and get paid by what you do, not how long you are logged in.

Ok
I can’t post who I work for, not that any of you would recognize the name anyway, but you could google it and see who they service. I had to sign confidentiality agreements and outside of the calls I answer for work I can’t talk about the business. I can be fired and/or sued if I disclose any company information. It sounds all secretive and hush hush but it’s really just business.

I can schedule my own hours but once scheduled I am expect to work them. The company expects coverage 24/7/365. Sometimes they send out emails asking for certain hours to be covered. They can’t make us change our hours, however they don’t have to renew our contracts either. Outside of my scheduled hours, I can work as many hours as I want although they can limit us to 40 hours/week.
I have to log in for a minimum number of hours each week to be paid in that week, and there is a minimum number of hours to schedule to be eligible for certain bonuses.
I do more of a help desk type job as opposed to customer service, so I get paid by the call, not by the hour. If I don’t handle the call to the customers satisfaction I can get a complaint and too many complaints can get me fired. Lots of 5 star ratings got me a raise.
I have to have NO background noise. No barking dogs, no screaming kids, no TV or radio. I cannot for any reason put a customer on hold. No matter how nasty they are I have to maintain my cool. I can hang up if it becomes abusive.

I have never met the people who hired me, everything was done through email or over the phone. I had to do three test interviews over the phone showing that I am literate and can speak clearly.

I love working from home. I don’t have to go out in nasty weather, deal with traffic, no dress code, no office politics, nobody looking over my shoulder. Some days it’s hard to get motivated, like right now I should be logged in, all I’m doing it sitting here anyway. Other days I feel guilty if I don’t log in, if I’m home I should be working right?

what poem?

Thanks for the response, Sahirrnee! That was super helpful.

It is cold and dreary outside, and I want to go home. Alas, still a couple more hours of work, and then I have to take my car to the car doctor–just a routine checkup, but it’s still not getting me home on the couch with a dog warming my feet any faster.

It worked. Ok, I’m now at da cave from whence no one can call and whine. Let the weekend begin!

Soup and cornbread for dindin cause, well, I made soup last night and it’s good.

Weekend means summat different for me…

I think I shall be like the living dead by sunday evening- I just got called in for a short notice shift again, so I’ll be working 9-1.30am ish tonight, then tomorrow midday- 5.30pm ish at the football ground, followed by 6.30-12.30am elsewhere, then 11am start at the rugby on sunday. I’ll probably not be at the rugby late, but that doesn’t leave a lot of time to sleep and eat- especially as a few of those places are 40 minutes away and there’s often not much in the way of breaks there.

Oh well, better than the utter dearth of work a few weeks ago!

It is a thing of beauty. Especially early in the morning.

R is for the infamous Middle Eastern country, Ratsnestistan.

Cornbread is bakin’. Smells good up in da cave!

Could I get a copy, too?

TGIF!!! Monday there will be fireworks. Missy Prissy was off today - her regular day off - and the boss gave me the point of contact for the circuit board project she gave me sans much guidance. I talked to the engineer and he brought me the redlined drawings - what a concept! If I’d had these a month ago, I’d be done. Honest to goodness, I don’t know what her problem is. But I should be able to get the package to him by Tuesday, I hope.

When I left work, I was thinking I didn’t want to go to the gym, and as luck would have it, I forgot to bring my workout clothes, so I came home instead. I finally picked the turkey carcasses while my sweetie chopped up some carrots, and we’ve got a pot of turkey rice soup simmering away right now - supper shortly.

Tomorrow, we’re getting steps installed on the truck. I have a terrible time getting into the stoopit thing - it sits really high. So by noon tomorrow, that won’t be an issue. Yay!

It’s been rainy all day, and it looks like we’re in for a week of cold and/or nasty weather. I’m *almost *looking forward to the week in Florida. Almost…

I’ll make another pair of mitts tonight and send them off to my sis tomorrow and see how much luck she has selling them. I’m thinking I should give her a commission, because I’m nice, dammit!

Happy Firday!! Send Chocolate!!!

Trying to arrange a trip to NYC. Somewhat last-minute. For early next year. Darn, it’s hard to find accomodations, though I think I may have found something.

Soup good. Cornbread good. Tummy full. Verbs disappear.

Our soup was good, too. I’s stuffded.

Still no chocolate… :frowning:

Gonna go assume the position. MWAH!!!

no chocolate here either :frowning:

Stoopid dog!, I was in the middle of a call and he, for the first time ever, went after one of the sticky traps. He pulled it out from under the desk and tried to get the dog treat off of it. He got it stuck to his nose, then he got it off his nose and stuck to his paw. He’s walking around making flapping noises trying to get unstuck. So I rang Sah-son on the house phone and he didn’t notice I was on the phone and let out with a snort. The poor dog is flapping around in circles, knocked over my laundry basket and got one of my shirts stuck to the trap as well.

Fun fun, now he’s snoring away.

Was short handed at work ,but got this done. I have mad skillz like that.

What’s with all the hugs? Do y’all know something I don’t?:dubious::eek:

I was just looking up Santarchy to see when it was this year and thinking about you.

Well, one more week is over. My final is over and I’m glad about that. Last week coming up. But before that, RT will be home sometime today!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I’ve known all my life that I like shitty music. I’m fine with that. I like some good music too. But I like a lot of pop crap.

But dear lord, I was just browsing through my old music archive, and came across a song that I genuinely loved when I was in high school, and when I listened to it just now, I could barely stand it.

Anyone else ashamed of music they loved when they were angsty teens?

For the record, the song was the forgettable and AWFUL “If You’re Not The One” by Daniel Bedingfield.

$2.99 - I’ve never heard of that song or that singer, but then I’m probably old enough to be your grandmother, so it’s not surprising… But for the record, I only liked *good *music. And I still have all of my Cowsills albums.

Good morning! It’s cold out and gonna get colder before the week is done. I finished all my crafty chores last night and I have 2 boxes ready for the post office. The only real plans we have for today are for this morning - drop the truck off at 8 to get the steps installed, go to the gym, then to breakfast, then pick up the truck, then come home. I’ll probably do some laundry this afternoon, and maybe a few more crafty projects. But no real plans.

All in all, a pretty dull day at FairyChatEstates. Happy Saturday!
