The Labor Day MMP

Happy Saturday!

Lots of rain and a chilly 60 degrees outside.
I tried to sit outside with Ripple but it was too wet and chilly. No skeeters to feed though.

I woke at 4:30, then went back to bed at 6 and got up for good at 9.
Now I want to take a nap.

It’s a lazy day. I look around and see everything that needs to be done and say ah screw it I’ll do it later

Lancaster, '76 to '87. I flew into Inyokern on my first XC solo.

Howdy all. Soccer occupied my time from 7am to 2pm, boys and girls both lost:( but the 6 year olds won. Also refereed my first game of the year and did pretty good, if I do say so myself (and I do). All in 80-90F weather, so I’m a bit burned and sore.

Tile guys were in and I now have a floor in the bathroom; still need to finish tiling the shower. But hopefully by this time next week most of the work will be done (one can hope).

Sari, tomorrow is always a good time to do stuff.

Bumba, I love Greek culture and the Greek people, but not so much the food. Enjoy.

Sunny, I feel your pai…insomnia. Do the same thing at times.

Nut, Hope your boots were made for walking…

Johnny, hope the roof gets fixed with a minimal amount of trouble.

Butters, may your cat scratches heal quickly.
And to anyone I forgot, assorted hugs/how are ya’s/snarky remarks as required.

Nappage now.

Someone put a foot through the ceiling of the back bedroom.

Admittedly, the (tiny!) room is a mess and needed to be cleaned out. I’ve cleaned out the area under the hole, and it looks a lot bigger in there now.

The HFH used to date a guy from Greece.
He cooked a bit and I liked most of what he made.
Lots of olive oil, butter, and lemon. He even put lemon in his meatloaf.
Baklava is yummy.

Been a nice, lazy afternoon. We supped on various leftovers. My dawgs fried up and et a buncha South Keerlina chikins. All is well.

Rain to be followed by rain and some more rain. That to be possibly followed by more rain, mud slides, flooding creeks and roadways and ----- I still want to know when I moved to California. Wait ------ now they burn and we drown. Sorry; I missed that notification.

Kennywood tomorrow but based on radar we are prepared to get there and turn around. As little staff as they have right now it may be more than enough if they never open. :frowning:

Supper was grilled cheese because lazy. I’ve just about finished another afghan - I sewed together all the squares and I’m on the last round of edging.

I want ice cream.

When I visited my cousin and her husband last week my mom and I were given a bunch of apples off of their trees. This morning I did an apple-nut coffee cake for a church meeting, and just now I have two Dutch apple pies in the oven for a family reunion tomorrow. Tomorrow evening I may put together two more pies, double crust this time, to freeze and have on hand for special or unexpected needs.

Your who did what now? Oh. Sports?

bumba, did you use corn husks or banana leaves for your tamales?

I went to Tar-jay to pick up a prescription and some lotion this afternoon and stayed for a flu shot. :stuck_out_tongue: I could have taken it in a couple of weeks at irk or gone to my doctor, all with no co-pay, but the CVS at Tar-jay sweetens the pot with a $5 gift card.

The beef bourguinon is most excellent. I enjoy cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in my food. (credit to Julia Child).

Worked, came home. The joy of Saturday trucks , I missed:

[li]The Greek Festival[/li][li]Beeracana[/li][li]Tacos and Taps[/li][li]Beer and Axe throwing at Gizmo[/li][/ul]
Not sure if God is punishing me, or protecting all y’all.

It usually does.

Kennywood will be closed tomorrow because of the constant rain.

Since I can’t work there for free I decided to do an extra at Da Jungle for the chumpchange – I MEAN FINE MONEY – we’re paid.

Alcohol was not involved; just a low boredom threshold.

For those of us in the mid-atlantic area, please keep an eye to the sky. The latest run of projections for storm tracks range from annoying to very dire. Even if Florence fizzles out, there are more behind her.
As my maternal unit used to say “At least it’s not snow…”

Up, caffeinatedm, and sheveled. Off to work. Another double today.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of “F” named hurricanes(Fran, Floyd).

Mornin’ all. Hope the weather’s not too bad, it’s actually sunny and nice here today.

I’m helping out on a stand selling honey for the beekeepers today, at a local show. Also feebly trying to defilthify the car a bit first, before it goes for it’s annual checkup tomorrow, for which I’m decidedly keeping my fingers crossed- I buy old cars, so there’s always a high chance the cost to get it through the test will be more than the car’s worth. I really don’t want the hassle of trying to buy another car right now, for a start, I’d have no way to get to one job without. Taxi would cost more than wages.

Happy Sunday!

I am up too early, thanks Ripple.
Of course after waking me and irritating the cat, he is now snoring away.

A very wet 55 degrees outside. The high for today is supposed to be 63.
Supposed to rain through Toosday, stop for a day, and then many more days of rain.
Oh joy and happiness… NOT!

I have a horribly sore throat. Yesterday my right ear hurt, today it’s the left ear.
Probably sinuses.

Not planning on doing much today.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear (really, I went out looked up in the sky and saw stars) with a predicted high of 92 and N.O.S. for the day. This is south Jawja. It can be Summer until late October. Or not. The big plan of the day is deheatenization followed by a <snerk> Quickie! <snerk> N.O.L. The new playground gets blessed today between services. The doggie park will get blessed on October 7, which is the feast day of St. Francis Is A Sissy, aka the patron saint of animals. There will also be a blessing of the animals. We do strange stuff.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

I woke from a weird dream in the middle of the night, and it felt like it took forever to drop off again, but sleep I did, until 7:30. We’ve had steady rain all night - huzzah! And we’re forecast to have rain much of the next 10 days… um, rah? I fear the grass will be hip-high before it dries enough to be mowed. For now, Florence is project to hit south of us, but even if that doesn’t change, I expect the residuals will rain upon us.

No plans for the day. Daughter leaves for Lancaster later today - she’ll be gone till Tuesday night, and she’s already teary about being away from Roxy. I’ll have full custody tomorrow evening when SIL has classes from 4-9. We’ll see how ready I am.

When **FCD **drags his butt out of bed, we’re going to get breakfast. Then we’ll stay home and be bums. I’ve got 3 afghans to rinse and pack for AARP, and I’d like to finish Roxy’s hoodie. Maybe. We shall see. Mostly, tho, just a lazy day.

Happy Sunday!

Hey all, it’s me. Hey doggio! : tacklehug : back!

Sunny Dayz thanks! I have had a difficult time letting the summer go by without grubbing in the dirt, and I know that I have lost plants, but the garden is a neverending work in progress, and while it’s going to take more than one season of work to make up for the time I’ve lost, still it will be worth the effort.

flytrap if you want any tips to get the pommie to love you, or at least tolerate you, let me know. That also goes for whelping/raising puppies advice if needed. I am curious about your Pom, but I don’t want to make the MMP about Pomeranians. I echo Sahirrnee’s sentiments about crossing breeds responsibly, although I do not personally agree with purposely crossing breeds. I hope that this is a healthy litter and that all goes well.

The Stainless Steel Rat I remember you from a while back, I’m glad that you have found the MMP, it’s the best little corner of the Dope! Life has been and continues to be rough, but as a crusty old Bush pilot I knew up on Kodiak Island used to frequently say, it sure beats the alternative.

As swampy mentioned a very good friend passed away earlier this week. Sistah Lucy was a wonderful woman, funny, passionate and simply lovely to the bone. I miss her, and always will. Life is so fragile. Miss Lucy loved Monarch butterflies, and I will always say hello to Lucy every time I see one from here on out. I am sorry about your cousin swampy, I hope that you, family and friends are surrounded with light and love.

Nut I wouldn’t think of coming back to the MMP without chocolate love offerings for the ladies and beverages for the rest of us! I thought it went without saying . . .

Oh Emily Happy Belated birthday. I hate being woken by the sound of construction, it’s so jarring. I hope that your day went up from your morning.

I also hate moving Sunny and feel your pain.

So Johnny L.A. has made it to the MMP, good to see you here! I have thought to respond to several of your threads, but my posts are generally thread killers so I haven’t. One of my daughters used to live in your town, and I am just down the road, and sometimes your menus in Cafe Society are awfully tempting! I hope that you get your roof taken care of before the rains really come in, so far here we have only had scattered showers. By the way, those goat’s heads can be found in the eastern half of the state.

So, my week was somber. I woke up the 6th or 7th (days run together) to no power, which gave me an immediate adrenalin rush as I had paid the bill the week before and it wasn’t even overdue! I was hollerin’ for my daughter who showed up and told me that the power wasn’t out, the water heater was leaking and the guys had the power off so they could look at it. sigh I took my a.m. handful of meds and went back to sleep. When I woke next it was to find out that the water heater is toast and the soonest I can have hot water on tap again is Thursday, maybe. Tonight I had a wash with water heated on the stove poured by the pitcherful out of a five-gallon bucket and was totally reminded of Larsen Bay and winters in the village when the water would freeze and I had to hike to bring water home from the creek, and bathing myself and the kids out of the same kind of set up!

Like the song says, “Life ain’t always beautiful, but it’s a beautiful life”.

Happy Sunday friends. A new week is about to dawn.
