The Labor Day MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveles. Off to work.

**Johnny **, that sucks.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and fair (well, dark) with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I can tell Fall is in the air. It’s slightly less hyooomid out. This mornin’ I shall betake myself over to the church house to assist with mowage. Was gonna go help yestiddy evenin’ but was overcome with a case of CAN’T, so I didn’t. Tomorrow we dedicate the newly designed playground and doggie park. Looks really cool. There’s a nice playground area for the kiddies with a separate entrance to a place for folks to bring their critters. We encourage the 'hood around the church to make use of both as well as members of the church.

Johnny hope the roofers can get back today. Re-roofin’ and rain do not go well together.

OK, now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Up, feeling exhausted. I think I slept pretty well, tho I don’t know if I dreamed waking in the middle of the night or if I really did. It’s dreary with a promise of more rain - it may take a bit to get motivated.

Ah, blue tarps on roofs! When I flew into Orlando for my grandbaby’s arrival, I had a window seat and I was amazed how many blue tarps I saw! It was April, so between hurricane seasons and I assume the tarped folks couldn’t afford to get their roofs fixed, or there was a looooooong wait for roofers. I wondered how effective they were - sounds like “not extremely.”

Critters have been tended to and the dishwasher is washing. Thus beginneth my day. Happy Saturday!!

Blue roofs are still visible in the Keys a year later. My hubby in the A/C business is still very busy. More than he can do.

I had an interesting morning. Our cat, Scooter, had a sandspur in her mouth. It has happened before so I knew that was the problem. Since I had to come to irk I couldn’t take her to the vet to get it removed so I held her down and got it out. I got bit and scratched pretty good on my hands. I had a tetanus shot a year ago so if these bites don’t get infected I probably won’t die. Stupid cat.
Tis raining here this morning but supposed to clear up. We shall see. Hubby is on a plane now on his way home. Come on 1 o’clock.

I didn’t know what a sandspur was. I looked it up. Seems nasty.

A cat I used to have used to get these sticker-things from plants in his fur. They weren’t hard to get out, but a bit of a pain in the butt.

A combo of melatonin and lorazepam seems to have worked last night.

First load in the dryer, second in the washer, one more to go. Not much motivation here.

When I lived in the Mojave Desert we had goat’s heads. They’d go right through my zoriis.

Yikes. Those look to me kind of like the sharp thingies that law enforcement puts on the road to stick in people’s car tires.

ETA: Caltrops was the word I was looking for.

Johnny, that sucks. The only discomfort I got from getting a new roof/gutters on my building this summer was having to put patio furniture back in place and the loss of part of my patio garden (dipshits used a leaf blower to clean up and blew the soil from the pots).

butters, I hope your owies heal quickly and Scooter stays away from the sand burrs in the future.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, towels in the wash, patio rearranged, sheets out of the dryer (I forgot that I did an extra load Monday :smack: ). I need to cut up a few pounds of apples and give them a lemon juice bath for the heathen children’s craft tomorrow. I will also make a birthday card for my boss’ 40th this week. Later, I’ll fix some beef bourguignon, rice and steam some broccoli for supper.

Well, they are in the caltrop family. (Compare: caltrop, weapon.)

I called the contractor at 0730. Forty minutes later, his guys are up on the roof.

It should be dry most of the day, so they should be able to get the plywood down. Still have to wait until Monday for the shingles to be delivered, and it’s supposed to rain from tonight through next Saturday night.

And… showers.

The guys are sitting in their car out front. Looks like it’s lessening, and one of the guys said the rain shower should stop by 0900 and they can get back to work.

Obviously a delver in the black arts. :dubious:

Evenin’ all.

Irk has slowed right down, that’s two days in a row leaving before 1pm; it’s been around 3pm finish all summer.

I’m pleased to say the boots bought online arrived yesterday (expected Monday, speedy postie) and seem pretty good. I know you were all worried.

It’s always a pain for me to buy shoes; I have narrow heels and wide toes, a bit like a duck.

For some reason, which seemed perfectly good at the time, we stayed up until 2 or 2:30 last night. We got up this morning at 8. I can’t brain. What the heck were we thinking? :smack:

Sometimes everything seems like a good idea late at night.

That’s why I head for bed at 8:30…

We let Red Robin make lunch. Laundry is done. I’m about to Netflix.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Emily!!
Hope you’re feeling better.

Johnny, when did you live in the Mojave? I was at China Lake '67-'69.

Big doins tonight - it’s The night of The Moon over at the Cultural Center. I’d link to it but apparently nobody thought to put up a page this year. No matter, it’s sold out anyway. It’s a big fundraiser for the Cultural Center. We go to try to pretend that we have some kinda culture. This year they’re celebrating Greece. They’ll be a Greek style dinner. (I don’t care for Greek food, BTW), some Greek music and dancing, and an auction. We’ll visit with some people who actually are cultured and have a good time. And spend money. At least we get to write it off.

In the mean time, I need to go caulk around the lights on the back deck before the rain shorts them out. I tore some of the caulk out when I was scraping paint out there.

Tomorrow we’re going to a friend’s house for a tamale making party. None of us have ever made tamales before, so it should be interesting.

Howdy Y’all! Mowage over to the church house got accomplished. I came back to da cave, showered, had a beerverage and then a little nap. Feelin’ all refreshed now. Sup will be whatever. Various foodstuffs in da fridge need to get et up so that’s how it shall be.
