Well, the only question I have related to this was–if the Real Henry Gale was alone, then who buried him? I don’t think the Others would have cared that much. And if Real Henry had just been left to rot or hidden, there would have been no need for the fake Auntie Em, so who made the fancy grave?
Posts 191 and 192 cover the current discussion on this question. I’m still inclined to remove it myself, but middleman makes a good point. I’m leaving it on for now, but if I get any more votes to take it off - off it goes.
Considering the Dharma Initiative has stamped their logo all over the food, I’m reasonably certain we know they’re the ones responsible.
This theory just gets stronger and stronger doesn’t it. Currently there’s absolutely no evidence to link the two con men which is why I’ve been keeping it off. But if at any time some actual on screen evidence does appear - a hint, a clue, anything - it’s going on.
If someone has evidence I’ve missed, toss it in.
Actually, I think the question of who burried ol’ HG is a fine one all by itself. It’s a keeper.
It’s doubtful that RealHenry travelled alone, so whoever he travelled with (wife or not) buried him. The Others then captured/killed/assimilated the companion. When PseudoHenry got captured (I suspect he deliberately fell into the trap in order to infiltrate the Losties camp), he used the grave as his cover story, betting that the Losties wouldn’t go to the trouble of digging up the grave, or that if they did, he would have found a way to escape by then.
I think if The Others had buried RealHenry, they might have had the forethought to remove his ID!
This has been discussed several times in this thread. Everyone’s aware of the “real” explanation - the question has been left in place to see if they ever get around to writing in an explanation in the story itself. Frankly, it’s been so long now that I’m guessing they’ll never bother.
I think it is a legitimate question that can have two meanings: (A) Why did the blast doors drop? (assuming that it was not tied to the air drop) or (B) Why did the blast doors drop DURING the air drop?
I think we will get an answer either way because it is tied to the new clue.
I think “Who drew the map?” is a near requirement. We believe it was probably Kelvin (Des’s partner) but we can’t be sure he started it. Perhaps, “Who drew the map and what is its significance?”
Well, like I said, the question is in anyway. I just want to fiddle with it a bit.
OK, I can buy that. Good job on the wording.
More tomorrow.
New questions from this week:
- ?
- Why did the blast doors close?
- Who drew the map (and what is its significance)?
- Who burried Henry Gale?
Couple of notes:
I’ve put the question of the map’s significane in parentheses. As a map of the island with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one, the significance seems fairly straightforward. But there could be more than we know, so I haven’t taken it out completely.
General consesus seems to be to remove question 35 and that’s OK with me. If I’m wrong middleman gets to say “I told you so”. No need to thank me. I knew the risks when I took this job.
It looks like we know the answer to 77 - Is Henry an Other - but I’m waiting until next week for some confirmation.
I’ll be gentle when I am proven correct!
… and FakeHenry wouldn’t have said it was his wife, but rather his partner.
A couple of pieces of business I need to clean up before tonight’s new episode:
-
Why was Hurley in a mental institution?
ANSWERED Mental break after a collapsing balcony accident which included auditory and visual halucinations (Dave). My wife, the LICSW, is diagnosing it as Psychotic Depression. -
Why was Ecko marking the trees?
ANSWERED Building a church.
And we should add:
- Why was Libby in the mental institution?
Question 3) should perhaps be split into horse/bear components. The provenance of the polar bear is partially explained on the lower right of the blast door map:
Part of Dharma Initiative experiment on ‘repatriation and accelerated de-territorialization of Ursus Maritus through gene therapy…’
Question 11) should be removed, unless someone can explain why they care or why this is at all significant?
Question 20) should be removed. The exact nature of the French science mission seems unimportant, and why shouldn’t such a mission be provided with weapons given the presence of wild boar etc. on the island?
Remove 25) and 26). Not significant.
Remove 35). This question is misleading anyway, as the ocean level did not rise- all that happened was a storm which washed away the wreckage and forced the survivors temporarily to abandon the beach. What remains to be explained? Has there been any indication that the ocean level is different from before?
Remove 52). No reason to expect an answer to this question as it was never presented to the audience- it formed part of the FT but was untranslated by the Losties. Never mentioned since Episode 1!.
Agreed on answer to 77)- he is at least affiliated with the Others from what he has said. Good enough for me.
hammos1 - A few quick notes as I don’t have a lot of time today.
Question 3 - A good point. Let me think about that one.
Question 11 - A removal worth considering. Someone had the same reservations. There was some discussion about it at the time, even some disagreement as to the “obvious” answer. I’ll have to refresh my memory on this one.
Question 20 - Just because Danielle’s mission doesn’t seem important now, but it may prove to be. We won’t know the significance until the question is answered. The part about the rifles is a seconday issue added to the first part for the sake of completeness.
25 and 26 may not be important in a larger sense, but these small character points are worth considering as this is a character driven show. All mysteries are questions, but not all questions are mysteries.
35 was already removed.
52 and 53 - I am expecting that at some point Danielle will be getting her own flashback. They were both mentioned in passing in the Season 1 finale.
Not much has been going on in this thread for a few weeks now. That’s OK. I’m not sure if interest in this project has dropped or what, but I’m going to clean things up for the season finale. So here we go.
In response to hammos1, I am leaving question 3 alone because we know Dharma is working on more than just Polar Bears. Evidence was the shark with the Dharma logo.
I will remove question 11 as no longer relevant.
Question 79 was answered. The “?” indicated the Monitoring Hatch.

I’m expecting some big answers tonight!
Hey, Trion. I’m still interested in this thread – I just don’t have much to contribute. I imagine there are others (uh, with a lowercase “o”) who feel the same way.
OK, good. I’m certainly happy to keep things going, but without other posters it’s just me talking to myself. And believe me, I don’t need a message board for that.
Anyway we can hash things out for the end of the season. Durring the break I want to rethink the list and perhaps try to fina a way to make it a better tool for exploring the island mysteries.
47 has an answer, or at least a partial one. Alex, or rather an Alex, is one of the Others. She looks young enough that she could conceivably be Alex Rousseau.
The question that follows from that is: why did she help Claire escape? She seems to have avoided the groupthink indoctrination that pervades the rest of the Others. Since she was taken from Rousseau as a baby, it’s not clear how she was able to keep from fully falling into the cult of the Others.
Smart money is on the Other’s Alex being Danielle’s Alex. I’m just waiting for some confirmation before tagging it as answered.
Consider the follow up question added to the list.
Didn’t we see that she was alive in Locke’s last flashback episode? I suppose that doesn’t conclusively prove that she was alive when Sayid was told about her, but it at least shows she made it to the US.
I agree about 19. I think we’ve been shown that Nadia is alive. She certainly made it to America and was in a position to buy real estate, so even though she could have been run down by a bus in the meantime, it looks like we’re intended to know she’s alive and well.
