Home at last - it took 3.5 hours for what is usually a bit over 2 hour trip. All thanks to torrential rains and Firday rushhour traffic fleeing DC and heading to civilization. But I’m here, so yay!
I had a nice visit with Mom and helped her out with a few things, including setting up her preferences in Word and fixing some screwed up bookmarks and stuff. I also taught her how to use her staple gun and a circular saw… And I delivered the afghans and the hats and scarves to her. In return, she took me out for lunch to a pretty good Chinese place - they had really good wonton soup - I’d forgotten how good it could be. And I just finished eating the leftovers.
**FCD **is on his way home from buying some fish-related stuff from a coworker who lost about $15K of fishies and stuff (no that’s not a typo) when power went out from Irene. No idea what he got or what he spent. Guess I’ll find out soon.
Still raining, still soggy. ugh. No ice cream here, but Mom sent me home with some cheesecake brownies - mega yum!!!
Congrats, Nava! **rosie **- bummer about losing WBT - hope you can find a satisfactory replacement. kai!! You really need to stop in more often. Incidentally, any grandbaby pics you need to brag about??
Hugs to one and all! Gropes to a select few…
I had a nice talk with Bro about things - I’m still bummed and a little freaked, but in the long run, I know it will work out. Mooom - let me save you from temptation - shove one of those brownies thru the CD drive for me, kthxbai?
Nava - YAY
kai - good to “see” you! (by any chance, are you a Doctor Who fan? 'cause I have an urge to dub you River Song)
AWWWWWWWWW rosie. Maybe the next tenant will be even better. Plus you get to move downstairs!
I am goin’ to make couch chikin AKA chikin divan tomorrow. I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some. Plus I get to have N.O.L. at the good Chinese place tomorrow! YAY!!!
Back from Tennessee - got to see .38 Special at the Tennessee State Fair. They rocked! Really good show! Saw a 30 lb rabbit - who knew a Flemish Giant was big enough to ride? And some really cool chickens - Art Deco looking with white feathers outlined in black. I like that kind of fair, with the quilts and the preserves and animals and such. The one here is just a carnival.
The fairground in Knoxville is hilly - (well, duh!) - my legs hurt for two days!
‘Mornin’ all. Been up since 4:30 sippin’ java. It’s 58 F here in my fair city of Three Rivers and it’s supposed to get up to a high of 69 {snerk} F. The boss put out a call for more OT and I’ve actually put in an hour so far. I’ll be headed off to the supermarket soon but will irk more later after I’ve had my weekly treat of Mickey D’s drive-thru breakfast. Later on this afternoon, I’ll be headed off to the girlfriend’s place for pizza and wine. Yum!
If you were nearby, rosie I might apply for a shot at becoming WBT II. I’ve got some mad snow-shovelling and totin’ skills.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 71 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 89. Ok, the official second day of Fall and the temps are like early Summer. :dubious:
BBBobbio YAY!!! Can’t wait for more Bambilance tales!
Feel better Wood!
Snakes I agree I like those kinds of fairs too. The Jawja National Fair is a lot like that. Note… we don’t have just a state fair, we have a national fair.
Now I must seek out more caffiene. I need some brekkie. Since I’m gettin’ good Chinese for N.O.L. it’ll be a light one. Mayhaps just cereal and milk.
You in the Iron City? I lived there while in grad school- for about 5 years. Had apartments in Shadyside, 'sLiberty and Squirrel Hill. Nice place to live.
I feel safer now, BBBobbio, since my kid lives in Lex Park. But if you get a call to rescue her “roommate” you don’t need to try too hard to save him…
We slept in like major slugs this morning, then went to Leonardtown for breakfast and to get some algae for the aquarium sump. Last stop was the hardware store where we got 2 bags of Plaster of Paris for me to use in my studio. So yay!
Shortly, I will start working in the studio, after I read the comics, of course. Grey, dreary, and wet thru Tues - ugh. I fear when the sun finally shows up again, it’ll be mildewed and covered in mushrooms, just like my back yard. ugh.
Still, it is Saturday so my sweetie is home, so there’s that.
Just had unbelievable BBQ off a roadside truck attached to smoker. Omg. The ribs were perfect. Tooth tender but with a bit of chew, smoke all the way through. Brisket? Holy cow.
Mac n cheese with smoked brisket mixed in. I think I need salads for the next week.
So sorry about WBT rosie. Good tenants are hard to come by.
Moooooom, is a horrendeously expensive aquarium covered by insurance? That poor guy! Here I was, complaining about the $6 I had to spend on filters for my goldfish tank. Now I remember why we never tried saltwater.
The trip to {snerk} BJ’s {snerk} was successful. We now have 16 rolls of paper towels and 36 rolls of TP. We also got 14 pounds of hamburger, which has been cut into 1 pound sections and bagged, flattened, and frozen. Unfortunately, only 13 pounds made it to the freezer because one bag fell into the sink and I didn’t notice.
It’s hot and muggy and yuck outside of the bedroom so I’m staying in here with the AC and my sinuses. Blurf.
The rice and beans that I made on Thursday was even better last night. I think that next time I’ll have to cook it the night before and let it sit before serving.
