The Top 101 StraightDope Threads...Of All Time.

Hey - I agree with you that this is a good topic (even if it’s been done before), and since it’s yours (and you’ve signed up to do the “final” OP with the 101 list), can you provide your interim list every couple of pages, to show what is kept/discarded. That way, linking to this thread will suffice in the meantime until you have finalized.

Also, I came in to nominate one of my favorite threads: Qadgop the Mercotan’s My patient’s bizarre penis.

OK, I never saw that thread the first time around and thanks to this thread I’ve been reading it compulsively over the last couple of days. This is certainly one of the finest things I’ve ever read here. Good god man.

That would have to be the most humorous hypothetical battle I’ve ever read.

I don’t know if this could be considered a great, but it is different: Should we support the mutant registration act?

Maureen’s boombox thread.

I agree. I was rolling when I read that one! :stuck_out_tongue:

I started this thread but several other people that posted to it said that it should go on the “best of” lists. At nearly 300 responses, What Famous Thing Suprised You When You Saw It In Person?

I believe that it would be in the running for the most independent well-thought responses that didn’t depend on previous posts in the thread. It is also probably the longest thread that didn’t get hijacked or ever end up with with more drive-by’s than actual responses after the first few pages.

found it.

Superfluous spoekn words

A recent offering which may garner a few votes: Ninja Death Touch

Another one by Sampiro: Yes! I KNOW her husband blew his brains out!.

Also: Possible ONION Headlines (Warning: WTC Humor).

For one of the funniest threads, a fairly recent one:
Your most bizarre brain fart.

And the Pit thread I can’t find in which one of our longest-serving posters typed a very rude word in 3 inch high letters.

99 little-known facts about Cecil Adams. Fascinating stuff.

A twofer:
Backwoods Wedding Invitation
Bear_Napples attends uh weddin’! (Prepare to say “Holy Crap”… A lot)
Unfortunately, the photo links are no longer working, so you can’t see, for instance, the pantless mother-in-law.

A threefer:
What do you think Ryan_Liam smells like?
which was the follow-up to:
What do you think I look like in your mind?
and the sequel:
What does Ryan_Liam feel like?

Behold the wonder–NAY! The GLORY of…Incendary Pigs!

Heartily seconded. I’ll burn my third porcine nomination on Bosda’s coattails. Were we ever actually limited to how many we can suggest?

I had forgotten all about that thread and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Damn, I though I was going to be the first to post Guy Stuff. It’s fantastic and was the thread that pulled me into the SDMB.

I nominate the classic 2000 exercise, the Thread.

Mangetout actually decided to engage one of the “Nigerian scam” spammers, which resulted for a while in Fun and Games with Mr Austin Wemba.

Cartooniverse’s magnificent account of his work on 9/11 is a worthy companion to the initial WTC plane crash thread: Everything Changed -LONG Narrative.

Finally, to lighten the mood, Michael Moore inspired us all to Post (Our) Hugely Inappropriate Oscar Speech(es)!

I’ve got yet more:

The infamous Food Nazis thread and the perhaps even more infamous spin-off Ordering milk in a bar thread deserve a mention.

Unless you want really odd looks from your co-workers, you really shouldn’t read Most Embarassing Foreign Language Mistake in the office.

This Anthology Thread is a good guide to some of the History of the Boards.

My Beyonce Died. Contains links in OP to the threads that inspired it.

I just saw STAR WARS – it’s really fun! (spoilers OK) Time-travel back to 1977 with Dopers, some of whom weren’t born yet! “I don’t understand one thing. How are we all talking to each other?” “I don’t know about y’all, but I’m using this new thing that a Congressman from Tennessee just invented.”

Skewbald’s date with the pajama pants-wearing girl and the deconstruction in the Pit.

“Please do not post complete lyrics to songs!” “Okay, we won’t!”

Sweatpants strings (lots of fucks)

Top ten times in history when using the F word was appropriate

How the fuck did I miss that thread? It’s fuckin’ hilarious!

For another compilation of wonderful SDMB threads, there is the June 2002 Watershed moments in SDMB history; or, the SDMB Anthology Project

5 pages of great threads. I have kept this thread in my bookmarks for three years and it’s been well worth it.

Most of my favorites have been nominated – plus, I’m honored to see that the only Pit thread in which I am named has been mentioned (the Food Nazi one).

One of my Holiday favorites has been missed, though – every Christmas I print out the OP from this one and read it aloud to my family and we always laugh our asses off. So, in honor of the season, I nominate Nonie & Oscar’s Nativity Scene.
