Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorcing

Yeah, she really is, um… “nice”.

She was also in Thank You For Smoking, which I thought was a good movie, but she didn’t really shine.

It might come down to a definition of “virginity”. My college girlfriend called herself a virgin until marriage too, but we did everything [EVERYTHING] except penis-in-vagina sex.

Not to be a prude, silenus, but I had to report the link for the “two click” rule. No junior modding intended.

From the FAQ:

I read today that she’s divorcing Cruise because he wants to sent the 6-year old to some something called “Sea Operations” - some sort of Scientology boot camp. That’s why she’s going for legal custody.

I don’t blame her one little bit. I don’t have kids but if I did no one would be taking her away from me to go to some nutjob religious camp. Especially at so early an age.

He did add a warning to his post, although that does not technically qualify as following the two-click rule. It’s better to just report the post. I had to break an extra link in your quote.

My apologies, Marley I didn’t even think of the link in the quote.

This is still more plausible than Suri being Tom Cruise’s biological daughter.

It’s actually theSea Org, a place where people have to sign billion (yes, BILLION) year contracts to serve. Ex Scientologists have come out left and right, telling stories of effectively being slaves on the Sea Org ship- they suffer abuse (physical and mental), are starved, and just generally have a bad time. I once saw a documentary that said Greece (I believe it was Greece) had banned the Scientology ship from docking there, because one time when it did, a woman tried to get off of the ship, screaming and begging for help . . . only to be dragged back on by large men. Apparently this freaked out the people of the city bad enough that the government banned the ship from coming back.

Rather than help the woman…sigh.

That’s right up at the top of my “To Do” list when I’m a bazillionaire - send a hit squad to take down every boat, ship and dinghy Scientology has. Rescue squads on the high seas, followed by the scuttling of the ships along with their crews. Then drop the victims off on a beach somewhere safe with instructions on how to get help.

Then vanish back into the seas…

I agree. I used to listen to a ton of podcasts, and every now and then would be a story about Tom Cruise.

All of them described him as a great guy and real supportive.

I think the witch trial in Salem were like this.

My favorite Cruise role was always the Tropic Thunder one, as it was just so ODD and out of the box to see him do that kind of role. It was great!

I got the same feeling from Rock of Ages. He WAS the only really good point in the whole film, for the same reasons he was good in Tropic Thunder. Just a very one-off, neato character part that plays so well, in part, because one DOESNT think of him that way. Those roles actually make it seem like he might just have a sense of humour in there somewhere.

As far as I know, none of Tom Cruise’s roles have been informed by his “religion.” He plays all sorts of characters, heroes, anti-heroes, everymen, and bad guys, and though there’s a certain theme that runs through some of them and the majority of the time he’s the lead and has a lot of say in how the production develops, he’s never been arrogant or ego-driven, he’s never used the films for proselytising, and everyone describes him as being one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

I think his religion is ridiculous, but I think that of all of them. I certainly think what I have heard of his relationship with Katie was a bit weird. He may be gay and is suppressing it to protect his image in some way, but the evidence for this is a bit thin on the ground. But whatever - it’s his life, he can do whatever he wants.

Suri’s picture has been all over the gossip mags for years. If the parents really cared they could have kept her away from the photographers. Johnny Depp is a HUGE star, and I had not seen many pix of his kids. Maybe a couple now that he’s splitting with his significant other.
But my point is, sadly, a divorce may actually give Suri a more normal life. and I think the 6-year old is the most imp person here.

That’s really not fair at all. What are they supposed to do? Depp and his family lived in the south of France (or, somewhere in France), in a place that’s not really a hotspot where paparazzi hang out all the time. The paps can hang out 24/7 in New York City and Los Angeles and airports, waiting for Katie and Suri to show their faces. Either she’s kept indoors all the time and never taken outside, which would be weird and rightly condemned, or they take her out to the park and to go shopping and out to eat or to visit friends or to the sets, and then there are a million pictures the next day all over the place waiting to be picked over by overly judgmental people. And then Katie (and Tom, but usually Katie) is wrongly condemned just for stepping outside with the child. Unless you think Katie and Suri should go live in some paparazzi-free boondocks (not really an option), really, what are they supposed to do?

Blame the paparazzi, not the parents. Blame the places that run the pictures, not the parents. Blame the people who look at the pictures (like, well, you perhaps, since you’ve obviously seen so many?) thereby justifying the paparazzi’s presence, not the parents.

There really is only one response to this:  People don’t kill $cientologists. $cientology kills its own.

Btw, I really doubt that Tom wanted Suri to join the dreaded Sea Org. It’s just a rumor. She’s way too young. I’d be more likely to believe that he wanted her to go to a useless $cieno school. Maybe Katie read this page.

I don’t endorse Scientology (it’s fucking ridiculous) but I do find it fucking pathetic the number of people here posting pretty harsh things about a guy they’ve never met.

Since they’ve made him absurdly rich in return for his fame, and he can’t seem to control his own antics, I have trouble feeling much outrage about that.

For better or worse, Tom Cruise has allowed himself to become a public face of Scientology by way of his numerous public endorsements of the church and its practices. Any opprobrium garnered as the result of his actions should hardly be unexpected.

Johnny Depp was a bad comparison. But I still think Tom & Katie could have kept their kid away from the photographers more. I don’t go buying gossip mags but still saw pix of Shri were everywhere - more so than other celeb’s kids. Katie’s rich now. Tom’s a nutcase. The little girl is the only one I feel bad for here.

When you act with discretion, you frequently get discretion in return. Even when you are a movie star.
