Voluntary MMP - the noob part 2

10:56 update: It’s raining to beat the band, and blowing a bit, but I’ve seen worse in any number of thunderstorms. Oh, and we have a tor-nay-dee watch now, too.

All my 'maters are peeled, and the peppers and garlic have been roasted. Time to break out La Machine.

OhemGEE. Y’all would NOT BELIEVE the day I had yesterday, Suffice to say My brother is not going to Jail, my older sister is getting a divorce and my little sister is alive & safe, (these three things are totally unrelated, BTW)

That sounds like a day and more, Pearl!

I’m sitting on my butt after having been thoroughly busy for the last three days.

My bone density scan says my osteopeniais improved. Yay! I’ve also scheduled a stress test and a colonoscopy. Oh boy. Gotta get all my “old people” tests done now that I’ve met my deductible.

I do have the first load of clothes in the washer. And I made an awesome breakfast of mushroom omelettes, fresh fruit salad, and chicken-and-apple smoked sausage.

Tonight we’re going to a birthday party at our neighborhood bar. Should be fun!

Have a great Saturday. Y’all stay safe from the storm, ok?

12:38pm update - still no sign of the storm

Well, you can have my share. Rain, rain, rain, and 40 MPHish wind.

Reports are Cottonfield County is now in the worst of it, and it will continue for about the next 4 hours. Hang on down there, my redneck buds…

Salsa is done, except for the water bath. I hate glass topped stoves, because they make boiling water a pain in the ass.

Hi, I’m here and I’m alive. We went to Waldorf for breakfast, then came home and attacked the basement for a couple of hours. I cleaned up the accumulation of crud and stuff from around the fireplace and adjacent cabinet, then installed all the plates on the switches and plugs. FCD organized his tools and cut out and installed end panels on my studio cabinets - partly for strength, partly because they’re more paintable than the pressboard end panels. I hauled the paint and mud buckets to the storage shelves in the studio, and together, we carried several large panels to the back wall. Then we quit.

I’m having some lemonade and pretzels and my sweetie is clicking thru the channels. It’s rainy and windy, but not too bad. We’re farther inland than **BBBobbio **- I expect he’ll have it rougher than we will. **FCD **does want to run to the marina before dark to double check on the boat. We’ll see what the weather’s like then.

Looks like the storm has weakened, but doggone, it’s still HUGE!! And 50-60MPH winds are nothing to ignore. As long as nothing falls on the roof, we’re good. Oh, and my MIL called this morning to check on us. She does worry so…

Oh, and **Rebo **- I got the purple envelope - Thanks!!

After I read my comics and Dear Abby, I plan to assume the knit position for the balance of the day. Both bathtubs are full, so if nothing else, we can flush. Yay! **rosie **- it’s on its way - really…

Afternoon!

Glad Irene seems to be not as bad as she could have been.

Farmer’s market - done!

Wally World - done!

Lunch - thinking about it…

Butternut squash for lasagne - roasting!

Kitchen clean-up - ongoing!

I am going to go to Best Buy and get a TV we need for our bedroom to replace the old one that refuses to switch on half the time but I think I will leave it until much later once the Saturday crazyness is over with.

I may have just kept the garage from water intrusion. A bunch of soil and leaves had blocked the flow of water from the driveway that normally flows between the garden and the front of the porch and on to the lawn on the other side. A big pool of water was growing in front of the garage. So I grabbed a stiff push broom, braved the elements, and cleared the drainage path. Yay me!

Now my shirt is wet. Not fun in an air conditioned space. brrrrrr

2:43pm - wind has picked up a little, but still no rain

Well, that was fun - we lost power for something under an hour. Since there’s not all that much wind, I’m guessing some moron lost control on the wet roads and took out a power pole. **FCD **had a nice nap and I did some knitting. Fortunately, it’s an easy pattern and I can do it mostly by feel, because it was pretty dim, even by the window. I was just about to call my daughter and see if she had power, when it came back on. So yay.

3:30 - just woke up from my post salsa canning celebratory nap. Heavy rain, 40+ MPH winds; tornado watch and flood warning in effect.

Backyard lake is growing. Dogs want to go outside, then say ‘fuck you’ when they look out the back door.

Cousin from Indiana reported that he was watching TWC reporting from Virginia Beach, and they were streaked.

TIMBERRRRR!!

I just took Scruffy out - for some reason, when it’s raining, she’ll go into the front yard but not the back. While she was watering the lawn (heh) a small dead pine tree fell. It was too far from the house or the truck to be of concern. There are 2 more dead pines in the same area of the yard, but they’re both leaning on other trees - I’ll be really surprised if they fall.

It also looks like the mailman came. I’m not sure I care enough to venture to the end of the driveway. Maybe tomorrow. It’ll wait…

Oh, and FCD’s mega caulking of the small skylight worked - no leaks at all. Yay!

Howdy Y’all! Home from retreatin’. 'Twas not so bad. Actually kinda productive. Plus a nummy N.O.L. of rice sallit, tomato, basil and corn sallit, marinated young asparagus, homemade chickin sallit and pimento cheese sammiches and homemade peach ice cream. YUM! OYKW is in a pout with me about the ice cream. He’s jealous.

Pearl that weren’t no day. That was enough stuff for a month! YIKES!

Stay safe all y’all in the path of Irene! Trinity Episcopal Church in Noo Yawk City has cancelled services for tomorrow (as has I would imagine everybody) but stated they will tweet Morning Prayer. This gives me the giggles. Lord, in your mercy, hear our tweet.

Dumbest conversation of the day:

ME: Report is Mayberry has no power.

VWife: Does CindyTheFlake have power?

Me: I don’t know, but I would presume that since the courthouse doesn’t have power, they don’t either. (On same pole line…)

VWife: Can you find out?

:dubious:

Me: Uh, yeah. They don’t have power, so they’re going to jump right on Facebook and report it to the world their lights are out…

No Facebook posts since about 1 PM, so I presume the old neighbors don’t have power.

Well, I guess it’s official - PapaJohn’s in Leonardtown is staffed by WUSSIES!!! We wanted pizza for supper. Online ordering is down, and no one answers the phone. bah! So I’m having a sammich and **FCD **is having leftover chickie-rice-mushroom soup. I was so in the mood for pizza. :frowning:

And there will be much rakeage at home after this storm passes and the lawn is less squishy. Many sticks and branches and leaves all over the place. Good times ahead.

**BBBobbio **- your wife seemed so normal when I met her…

House is scrubbed! Kitchen & both bathrooms are scrubbed. Everywhere is dusted, laundry is put away, vacuumed whole house and steam vac’d the tile, emptied cat box, took out trash and cooked the pasta ready for tonights butternut squash lasagne.

I am going to go put the shoe rack in the hall closet and fold the winter clothes that are on the office floor then I think I am done for the day. I believe I have earned my lasagne tonight.

OK, gang, I’m going to turn the computer off and assume the knit position. I’ll check in tomorrow. MWAH!

Phew. glad Irene is not seeming to be as bad as everyone feared.
Mooooooom. Knitting in the dark? That’s dedication, that is!

Thanks all. Today is a LOT calmer than yesterday!

So, has a decision been made re who starts us off on Monday or will there be a cage match?

Steak, fries and sallit for dindin. Oh and a peach cobbler just came out of the oven. This seems to have made Pouty McPouterson feel better. Spoiled brat he is!

so apparently, batteries do expire. I didn’t remember when I’d bought them, i just looked in the cabinet and saw I enough D cells for my radio. I just went to pop them in, and noticed the exp date of March 2011. The radio sputtered briefly, then quit. :smack:
