What day is it in the MMP?

Well, I didn’t wake at 2… more like 3:15! And for some reason at that hour I heard someone revving their motorcycle - it sounded like it came from the half-built neighborhood behind the house. I did fall back to sleep for a bit and gave up a bit after 6. But my back is killing me - I’m sure it’s the mattress. I miss my bed!

Today is #2 shot day. FCD plans to leave around 1:30 and take his folks to Orlando for their final round.Later in the afternoon, I’ll be placing our order with Sonny’s and driving into town to pick it up - we’re outside their delivery radius, alas. No clue what else the day holds since my plans to clean their carpets failed. I thought about renting a unit while they’re gone but those machines are huge and harder to use than mine and I just don’t want to deal with it. So maybe I’ll pull weeds for my MIL. Her back yard is sad looking.

I mentioned the half-built neighborhood earlier - there are tons of those around here. across the main drag from my inlaws’ community there used to be a horse farm. Now it’s full of construction - 600 houses going in - starting around $300K! Does no one want affordable little homes? Do we all need McMansions?? Anyway, according to MIL, there are at least 2 or 3 other major developments going up, plus there’s “The Top of The World” which is apparently trying to become another Villages. Traffic here sucks as it is, and they’re adding thousands of new homes. Insanity!!

We used to have 3 more Food Lions in our county, but they became Weis a few years back. I stopped in a couple of times - their prices were definitely higher than the kitty’s and so far, one of them has closed. No clue about the other 2 because they’re near where I used to work which is 20 miles from home, so who cares? At least my local grocery has stayed put!

Publix has been expanding into VA but none in MD as yet, not that I much care. Even when there was one a mile from my FL home, I didn’t shop there a lot because they were $$$, except for sales, and their bakery (used to be excellent back in the day - I understand that has changed radically.) But I’m good with Aldi and Food Lion, and if I need something fancy, there’s a Harris Teeter, plus our little (3 store) local chain. And soon, the Amish will have fresh food again - huzzah!

And it’s time to start my day. Happy Firday!!!

Dairy Queen - fast food joint that started out as a soft-serve ice cream stand. Not gourmet by any means, but they offer a few satisfying treats.

Up and atom. Gonna venture to my shop and finish a couple of pieces, hopefully contact a buyer. Maybe head to the new Trader Joes here. It’s been (relatively) warm, so the icicles are gone from my roof.

Happy friday, and stay safe, all.

Since my last post, I’ve showered, dressed, and drove with FCD to Wawa, planning the day. They’re going to leave early for Orlando, hoping to get their shots early. I need to figure how long it’ll take to get to Sonny’s and back with our supper. Unfortunately, it’s thru a very busy area of Ocala down a major road at the end of the work day on a Friday. I figure I’ll take the estimated time from google maps, then double it.

So goes my exciting life.

Morning all. Rain started during the night, is still raining now, and predictions are it’ll rain most of the day and into the night. Soggy it is. Red looks to be caught in the same system, so damp around her place too. Don’t have any need to be out and about today, which looks like a good idea.

No Food Lions near me, most of the grocery stores are Kroger and Publix, used to be more but the two big ones plus Wal-Mart squeezed them out of business. At least I have 3-4 grocery stores within 5 miles of the house.

FCM, we’ve had a building boom her in N. Ali-bama, but that has mostly been jobs moving into the neighborhood (between the US Army, NASA, and Toyota and the associated businesses, we are still pretty thriving). I guess the Florida builds are for snowbirds/retirees heading in…I wonder if it’s setting up for another housing bust…

Anyway, hope the shots go according to plan and all is well–can you find Mel down there or is it prescription?

Nettie, not just call centers, worked for the DoD for 34 years and seems like we got re-organized every couple of years–with a total movement of buildings thrown in every 4-5 years. Fun.

quietly, hope Tango settles down…sometime.

OK, need to finish waking up and decide what the morning meal will be. It should be something in the larder but all this talk of Dairy Queen…hmmm, opens at 10am…

Take care all y’all

Mrs Magill has some minor foot surgery Tuesday, so she’s not too mobile. That didn’t stop her from trying to get a package from the front porch, though. She’s getting better, as long as her foot’s elevated. She’s feeling useless. She hates that. I did the shopping last night, which gave me the chance to pick up her birthday present.

This morning, instead of exercising, I got to assist Squeaky with his science project. More specifically, the part of his science project that he remembered this morning. The science project that I asked about every day for the last two weeks. The science project that is due today. I swear, I could throttle them some days. Of course, I would rather deal with these mishaps than the Attitude his brothers both had in Sixth Grade.

MG & Nellie Y’all’s experience mirrors mine. “You’re awake? Can you stand? Is your wife here? See ya!” Prep day wasn’t so bad. It was getting up every two hours the night before that sucked. I have my next one in three years, when Mrs Magill is due for her first one.

Red They closed the Piggly Wiggly in Nolensville shortly before we got here. From what I understand, that was may have been a good move. Right now, the scuttlebutt is that a Kroger will open up around the corner from me. Unfortunately, I am a Harris Teeter snob (as my wife puts it), and am still a little pissed that Kroger shut them all down here.

FCM my experience with Publix has been mostly positive. I would rather use their meat counter than Kroger’s. Kroger’s produce is (marginally) better, though. Pricewise, I think it’s a wash.

Off to pretend to work, and to avoid the WandaVision thread like the plague.

MetalMouse - Mel is OTC in various strengths. Even tho I woke at 3, I’d fallen asleep before 9, so it was a decent amount of sleep. I need to force myself to stay up later today.

I know what you mean about reorgs - my last DOD job lasted for 7 years. I had something like 15 different desks due to various reorgs, and I don’t recall how many different bosses I had. This is most relevant to that situation.

And so begins another day in Flahriduh!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been sunny and quite warm here today although that’s my estimation from inside the house since I’ve not ventured out there into the plague pits. The weather app says “Finally, a fucking day without swamp ass” and promises me 10C/50F and partly cloudy. I am sure they are referring to the conditions outside and not to our favourite Ursine One.

Magic Nancy I hope Mrs MN is recovering well from her surgery, it must be awful to feel helpless when you’re used to independence - good job it gave you a chance for some secret birthday shopping!

Quietly sorry to hear about the failed Cone of Shame! We had to take Shadow to the vet a couple of times after he got an abcess on his shoulder that required stitches. He had the cone on for a day or so, then managed to squeeze himself and the cone backwards out of the catflap. We found the cone in the garden, and a very smug cat who then had to go back to the vet to be stitched up again after managing to open his wound.

Mooooom sometimes it feels like every available bit of land is being built on around us, and they’re all 3-4 bedroom places, not affordable first-time buyer places either. The majority now seem to be shared ownership too, 'im indoors got very excited about being able to buy a house for £75,000 and then realised it was really only about 25% of a house.

nettie we are playing musical jobs at irk. An email has just gone round telling us that there are three Grade 5 jobs on offer, with a generic job spec to accompany it. You’re supposed to complete a form expressing interest in the post(s) that asks, amongst other things, what you believe the role entails and why you’re suited to it. That would be great if they said where the jobs were sited and what they actually were. Instead, we’re supposed to guess. They are 3-year acting-up roles, so our Grade 4 staff can have a go at something that should be career progression, except we can’t tell them what it is or where it is.

It’s nearly time for me to log off for the weekend, and I’ve bagged Monday off work too. I have to whittle down my 74hrs of banked time somehow!

Apparently getting your balls cut off turns a cat into a Golden Retriever! Short version: (4am!) Caelan came to bed with wet paws. I got up to investigate and discovered that not only had Tango knocked over the water dish and tank, all over the living room floor, but he was rolling in it! Lots of towels later the mess is cleaned up, and I catch him splashing in the refilled dish! Up to his elbows and throwing water everywhere. Lured him in with a fluffy bath towel and got him semi-dry, but he’s been doing it all morning. Luckily the floor is tile but still…

He’s been going full bore since he got home. Somehow I don’t think the cone or the pain pills are going to be needed. For him, that is. I think I’m going to be heavily into something by this evening.

Work was busy again, but that’s a good thing. Laindry time!

Here in Raleigh, Kroger closed the Krogers and kept the Teeters open. I love Teeter, but I miss a bunch of the Kroger stuff.

STICKY!!!
: tacklehug :

Hey! Another Raleighite. I miss the old stomping grounds. As soon as Covid is over, I’m heading home for a bit.

Sounds almost as if Tango is having a paradoxical reaction to being anesthetized. The excitement, racing around, hyperactivity. Not much to be done but let it wear off. Happens to humans occasionally and there isn’t a way to predict it. Just don’t let him get on Amazon with one of your credit cards :astonished: :scream:

He does sound like an adorable kitty. Pictures, please, if he ever slows down long enough.

Momentous occasion - I managed to cancel the Sirius account for my Sonata. I had to lie and say we were selling the car, and they still tried to get me to subscribe via and app or my Echo Dot, but I prevailed! As of Moanday, I have no satellite in my car. No more paying for a service I hardly ever used.

:boom: :dizzy: :boom: :dizzy: :boom: :dizzy:

Happy So Long Sirius!! Dance ensues in Nebraska :dancer:t3: :man_dancing:t3: :dancer:t3:

Tango in repose.

Tango is a gorgeous guy! Is his smoky gray fur as smooth and silky as it looks? [when it isn’t wet from rolling in the water dish].

His eyes are a lovely jewel color as well.

Smooth like an otter. I should have made the connection. :smack:

I have a particular weakness for gray cats, hence Ziva.

BBBoo - canceling Sirius is ridiculously difficult, but it’s a bit easier when you lie. FCD will deal with his subscription in July when it’s due to renew - he’ll play the whole game to get a reduced year one more time. I’m sure they count on you forgetting so you roll into the next year at their ridiculously high rates. Stupid game.

I’ve got our orders set for Sonny’s. I tried to place the order online, but it wouldn’t take. I’ll try again later before giving up and calling. It’s a 20 minute drive in theory. We shall see. Later.

Meanwhile, chillage.

Mea culpa – should have remembered that there are folks around here who aren’t familiar with all of the more important aspects of American culture.

Most of our grocery shopping gets done at the commissary and Super Walmart. I actually drive right past Big Y, Aldi, and Stop & Shop on the way to those, but S&S is more expensive, Aldi is considerably smaller, and Big Y, while the closest and most convenient, is the most expensive of the lot.

Rain locker time! After which I will get dressed, start a load of laundry, and load the dishwasher…

Just got a text from FCD - they’re on the way back - both his folks have been shot! And they weren’t sticklers about appointment times, since they’re not scheduled for another 30 minutes! So woohoo!

Now to see if either of them has a bad reaction. And FCD will decide when we’ll leave.

But before we leave, we’ll have supper from Sonny’s!!! :fork_and_knife:
