What day is it in the MMP?

DQ is reopening tomorrow! :man_cartwheeling:t4: :postal_horn: :boom: :ice_cream: :fireworks: :grinning:

FCM, you’re definitely nicer than I am. I would have lost my mind over the in-law situation long ago.

Ruble died a year ago today, and I’m handling today better than I expected. My aunt took me to breakfast and we had a nice talk, then I ran some errands. I was supposed to have dinner with Gentleman Caller tonight but his work demands interfered so we’re having dinner on Saturday instead. I’m constantly amazed at how different my life is turning out to be from what it was and what I expected it to be before Ruble went into the hospital last year.

Happy Wednesday, mumpers! (I always thought Happy Hump Day sounded a little pushy. I mean, what if the other person has a headache or isn’t in the mood?)

I have nothing new to report, having spent a whole lotta time on the phone dealing with family issues. Well, one issue. My nephew has really serious problems, and as you may know, when one member of the family has serious issues, they affect others. My sister, his mom, is one of the sweetest people on Earth, and she’s at the end of her very frayed rope. Families are complicated. I’m blessed to be in mine.

Mooooom, a question: if MIL and FIL’s youngest son lives close enough to empty out the fridge for them, can’t he handle some of the stuff that has had you and FCD rushing down there? I don’t mean to pry, so if this is none of my beeswax, or if you’ve already explained this and I missed it, please forgive.

Also, if thoughts alone made us bad, nobody would get a Mother’s Day card.

And you may get separate bills for the anesthesiologist, the second surgeon, etc.

This made my day.

Oh I know. I’m expecting the amount billed overall will cruise right on past $100,000. Just seemed odd that the surgeon himself only billed about $3500. Fingers are crossed that the gas-passer is in network. If anyone in a surgical escapade is out of network, 10 times out of 10, it’s the anesthesiologist and you had no options to select one that’s in network.

Mine too!

I’m fairly certain my puppy must have taken one of my shoes and made off with it. I’ve worn house shoes for so long now that it took me awhile to realize that one of my outside shoes is missing.

I grew up listening to this. Joan Baez was often played too.

I’ll read the rest and respond soon. I wanted to tell everyone that my sister is out of surgery and in recovery now. They replaced the valve and part of her aorta. It was ballooning and at high risk of rupturing. I am so relieved!

So glad to read this! Please keep us up to date often.

I’m continuing to hold her and you in the light.

Thank heaven (or Bevan) for the NHS.

I don’t know if I ever mentioned it but BIL has serious mental and emotional problems. He lives semi-independently and works part time at McD’s. He does yard work for his parents and he would move back in with them if necessary. But he’s not equipped to deal with their bigger problems. And he panics easily. If they were just old, he would be their go-to. But he doesn’t understand their health issues, he’s a timid driver, afraid to leave the few familiar roads he needs, and reasoning isn’t part of his coping skills.

I ran errands with MIL today and she was really grateful for the leisure to shop as well as my good eyes. I read lots of labels for her. We’ll go tomorrow to get an area rug. And somewhere along the line, I plan to clean their rugs. We may leave Sunday instead of Tuesday - it’s FCD’s call.

Supper tonight is sketties. That’s all for now.

Aldi must have been reading the MMP last week. Corned beef is on sale for $2/lb. I got a three pounder. Was that last week? They seem to blend together, to go with the theme of this MMP.

FCM Best of luck with the FCIL’s. That is a really tough situation.

Sunny Great news about your sister!

Anyone know why the helicopter is circling near my house? No? Me neither. :frowning: There’s a road near here that attracts drag racers and accidents are very common. Throw in that I grew up in central LA, and circling helicopters make me very nervous about what all is going on.

Mrs. L.A. got the invoice for her appendectomy. $30,000. If she’s reading it correctly, the discount the hospital gave to TriWest (VA) was $24,000, and TriWest covered the remaining $6,000. In any case, it says the amount owed is zero. Fingers are crossed that she’s reading it correctly.

Evening all. This should be a short one as there is a Cheeseburger in the fridge that needs preparing, grilling and consuming. Nappage turned into sleepage this afternoon, I was a bit surprised as I didn’t really feel that tired, but who am I to argue with my body. The temperature made it to 73F today, but supposed to be 10 degrees cooler tomorrow.

Sunny, Yea! for sister, amazing what they can do around the heart these days. As for the helicopter, I live near a military installation so we get helicopters around the area now and then. You could always try this site and see if it shows up there: https://planefinder.net/

FCM, shame about the BIL, sounds like he could use a minder too. Keep on keepin’ on…

nellie, families are complicated. But they are all the family we have, so we cope as best we can. Glad your sister has your shoulder to cry on.

OW, it doesn’t seem like a year; my condolences one more time. And glad your life is going on and not stangant. Good on you!

Shoe, I try to stick by my (written down) shopping list, but that doesn’t always work. At least you are well-stocked-for the moment…

Flyboy, I am not greatly skilled, but even I can do an Excel spreadsheet. Some companies just get into a rut and can’t be bothered to change (I worked for the DoD for 37 years, I know about this). Hand in there.

Herald, hope the bloodletting went well.

OK, that’s enough. Need to prove once again that I have risen to the top of the food chain by cooking and devouring meat. Take care all.

Get a bottle of Funk Away. That stuff works! Walmart sells it. They have the spray, and they have the laundry additive.

Too bad about your BIL’s capabilities for helping the in-laws Mooooooom.

Be careful wordy. I scheduled a 4 day weekend a couple of weeks ago that turned into an 8 day weekend that I couldn’t go anywhere for fun. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay for your Sis sunny.

Irked, came home, paid a couple of bills and made my menu and grocery list for next week. Supper’s et and once KP is done, I’ll play in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

MissOwl - hard to believe it’s a year. :slightly_frowning_face: Hugs to you.

Supper has been ingested. Everyone chills, including Higgs who plastered herself against my right leg. I hope I sleep longer tonight. Tomorrow, MIL wants to discuss rearranging her living room and maybe getting a slipcover for the couch. Not sure what else may happen…

I need chocolate.

{{{OW}}} It doesn’t seem like that long.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with my sister. Then I got a text that my Rx was ready at the grocery store pharmacy, so I walked over to pick it up. I decided to get two things I haven’t had before: crimini mushrooms and daikon, both of which will go in a salad shortly.

OW, I salute you for taking chances and for living your life so well this past year. Rubles would’ve been proud and relieved to know this. And may I say how glad I am for your presence here on the MPSIMS?

flyboy, that’s great news! You must have the Cadillac of insurance policies. Good for you!

Moooom, thanks for the explanation re: BIL. Has your MIL ever seen a low-vision specialist? There are low-tech devices that could help her do things like read labels. I have one I keep in my purse that helps me read labels. Pretty nifty.

She’s been my shoulder to cry on, too. When I was still in the nightmare marriage, she was the only one who knew what was really going on, though I left some of the more horrific stuff for after I left. The older I get, the more I realize how many people had screwed-up families and how incredibly lucky I am.

Canes lost. But on the bright side, I apparently didn’t flatten a squirrel on the way home(and I appreciate the irony of caring about a rodent, while scarfing down sauteed chicken for dinner).

Misty’s favorite tactic there is to perch on the edge of the water dish, facing outward, thus putting her output zone over the water. DH is using chip clips around the edge of her dishes to discourage this. We shall see.
