Jamie Lee Curtis also looks fantastic (and young) with a pixie.
I wanted to add, if you’ve never had your hair razor cut before, it can be unpleasant. They do it while your hair is mostly dry, and there’s alot of pulling and tugging. My scalp was sore the next day, and I’m not usually tender-headed.
Not so if the clippers are sharp.
Madd Maxx (who shaves his head with clippers weekly.)
That’s different than the “razoring” in a woman’s haircut. A razor (straight or razored scissors) are pulled through the hair to give texture. It’s totally different from actually shaving hair off.
You gotta have a striking face first.
No, I do not mean a face you wanna punch.
Personally, I think it makes her look like one of the Golden Girls. Seriously-the first time I saw her with her hair like that, I thought-“Oh my god, it’s Blanche!”
Male perspective here…‘Boy-length’ cuts can work on women, but IMHO they work better for women who have ‘feminine’ features. Men’s faces tend to have stronger, more pronounced features such as eyebrow ridges, noses, chins, and larger mouths. (Go ahead and laugh). If a woman’s face tends in that direction, if she cuts her hair that short, then she’ll look like a boy.
Which is cool, if that’s what you want…
I think it looks extremely hot on her. I think she has the facial features to really make it work. She could go even shorter and still look feminine IMHO. I really like short, short hair on the right woman. My ex wife went from a shoulder length perm to a cut like that (or maybe a little shorter and blonder) without warning me and was afraid I would hate it but it was actually quite a turn on !
48 y/o male, BTW.
I love it. I’ll echo everybody else’s concerns about your facial features and the shape of your head, but I think cuts like that (and even shaved heads) can be gorgeous on the right girl.
I’m a 30 year old guy.
I think it looks great, then again I love tom-boys. Me = 35yr old het Male.
I like it. Her face is the perfect shape for the way her hair is framed, shorter hair tends to look better on females with pointier chins and “feminine” features. I know a girl with the exact same hair cut who took to wearing skirts for awhile (which was practically heresy for her) because she was so often mistaken for a guy. She’s a DD, so her female status isn’t hard to miss ( ), but nonetheless people mistook her for male.
My hair’s never been shorter than two inches off my head (I measured out of curiosity), and the only person who ever hated it was my older sister. She literally grabbed my hair, pulled me into a hug, and said “Don’t worry, it’ll grow back quickly.” Never really understood why though.
FTR, here is my hair at its shaggiest, where I look like an untrimmed mutt, and here’s one just after I got it cut down to two inches. You’d never notice the second one was only two inches. I’m also on the phone with someone in both of them. Ignore that.
As you can tell, me = female. I’m bi as well, if that matters.

So what do you think of this hairstyle on a female? Ladies, ever had (or have) your hair this short? Do you think it is too short? I have similar colouring and face-shape and was pondering whether to go for the cut. It’s either this or dyeing it some drastic colour. My hair is seriously pissing me off.
Heh. Looks like I fit both descriptions. Don’t go for purple, no matter how nice you’d think it looks, unless you’re blonde. With dark hair, it always fades.
It’s a very cute hairdo on her…most women wouldn’t look good in it …you kind of need a “movie star beautiful” face to pull it off. Most women need to soften their look with hair framing their face.
For another example of a similar cut check out the movie “The Astronaut’s Wife” with Charlize Theron sporting very short hair and looking great. Other great examples are Mia Farrow in the second half of “Rosemary’s Baby” and Janine Turner in the TV series “Northern Exposure”
I’ll disagree that you always have to have delicate feminine features to pull off that haircut. One of my college professors was what you’d call a handsome woman and that cut made her look great. She wasn’t going for pixie though, she was going for stunning. She was, too.
There’s also a little more variety to that style than spiky or flat, if you go with accessories like hair bands (the little thin ones look cute), scarves and wraps, even a barrette can be made to stick and looks nice.
Coloring it can create dramatically different effects and can either be washed out or cut off rather easily. One of my students dyed her pixie cut a yellowy blonde and for halloween added leopard spots. Then it was pink with big hot pink circles, lime green with a yellow strip around the hairline… that girl wasn’t afraid of change.
It looks very cute on her.
Some people can pull off short easily, I can’t. Mine has to stay anywhere from just below the ears to mid-neck and the last time I went short I got called sir more times than I liked.
If you think you can pull it off though, go for it! Enjoy it.
20 y.o. hetero male, I love tom-boy types as much as anything else… but there is virtually no one that I find attractive with hair of that length/style. Halle Berry can pull it off, barely, and I think that she is one of the most attractive people alive, otherwise.
Stonebow covered me pretty well:
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, they are much appreciated.
Alyssa reportedly said her hairstyle was inspired by Jean Seberg, which is making me lean away from it…only Jean Seberg could really pull off the Seberg, IMO. That and the fact that I am not slightly-built - I’m average-size, average height.
I find it intriguing that many males are so put off by it, but some love it… and that most females do like it (as long as it suits the face and body-size).
The thing is, I’ve never had short hair. It’s always been bob-length or longer, and I’ve always found it a hassle. I’m starting to think that I’m only keeping it long to keep Mummy and Daddy and boyfriend happy, not for myself. Do you know what I mean?
I say go for it if you want to try it. It WILL grow back if you hate it, though it’s true that style is a PITA to grow out. What’s really important is how you feel about - as you’ve seen here, some people will hate it, and some will love it, just like with any haircut. You could also try something not quite that short. Something like might be good, it’s shorter than you’re used to but not as extreme as the pic you posted.

You could get your hair cut shorter and shorter in steps, too. Get two inches cut off, see how that feels, get another inch off, etc, until you get to a length you’re comfortable with. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
