What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

Yesterday morning I offered to make my gf breakfast. I had many ideas. I suggested blueberry waffles, but she said no. Then she turned down various omelets, pancakes, and shakshuka. She told me she wasn’t in the mood for any typical breakfast, then she went off to the barn to feed the horses.

Nontraditional breakfast? So, I had thawed a calf liver the day before, planning on making Arnavut Cigeri (Turkish Liver and Onions) but my ground sumac hadn’t yet arrived. So, I made the recipe without sumac.

When my gf returned from the barn she sniffed the air, then asked me what the hell I’d done. It was actually very good, with some Greek yogurt on the side.

Ok That right there went into the recipe to try folder. Aiii-Yee!

Made chicken tikka masala with tomatoes from the garden and a mix of ground chile arbol and pasilla peppers along with some naan. Blanching the tomatoes to remove the skins was a bit of a pain but the end result was worth it!

Leftover Shahi Korma and a tiramisu cupcake.

Ground meat empanadas last night.

On our meat fest on Sunday some one bought a bottle of Malbec that was ‘smoked’ where the label waxed lyrical about the smoking of the the barrels for various reasons.
One reason not to do it is the wine had a foretaste of sticking your tongue across the terminals of a 9 volt battery and a very flat watery finish. Absolutely nothing to recommend at all, the bottle was not finished and we moved onto something far more palatable.

Peanut butter and raspberry jam on whole wheat, a few slices of Swiss cheese, a dill pickle, some Pringles Scorchin’ chips (not all that hot, but flavorful), and a glass of ice water. Later, blueberries and vanilla ice cream.

I’ve got a pork chop on top of some scalloped potatoes going in the oven. Looks like i maybe added too much liquid to the taters. But it smells great!

Grilled cheese with bacon on whole wheat, seasoned french fries with ketchup, and ice water. Later, some mini-Reese’s Cups and a glass of cold milk.

Going to be sauteed broccoli and pine nuts with pasta.
Pine nuts seem to be getting quite hard to find and expensive, costco used to have big 1lb bags of them, but no more.

I made zucchini parmesan with zucchini fresh from our garden. A delicious warm dinner on this chilly rainy day!

I had leftovers - chicken tacos and jerk chicken sandwich leftover from pub trivia. Both even better the next day!

Toasted bagel with butter, Pringles Scorchin’ chips, some pepperoni slices, a dozen dates and a glass of ice water. Later, a blueberry mini-pie with vanilla ice cream.

Cajun deep fried chicken wings, fried green tomatoes, bicolor corn, okra & tomato dressing with andouille sausage.

Seafood enchiladas with tomato salsa, refried beans, dirty rice, grilled peppers and lettuce, and a glass of ice water. Later, a McDonald’s caramel frappe.

Tonight was chilie+cheese+pork sausages grilled, served on buns with grilled onions and a little mustard. Iced tea with the actual meal, went out and watched a friend’s band play, then had seconds with a couple of different IPAs.

Tomorrow is going to be shaken beef. Mmmmm, saucy beef bites with fresh greens.

Grilled a fat slab of cod on , well , the grill and had fish tacos with avocado, lime, red cabbage and a sour cream/ sriracha sauce.
Glasses of Chardonnay and an average movie to accompany.

Wood-fired pizza and tiramisu.

I baked salmon last night and didn’t burn it too much, lol. I added a garlic butter sauce on top. Came out tasting pretty well. I need to try adding almonds next time.

Gobi Manchurian as an appetizer, followed by chicken tikka misala (my friend Billu’s recipes).

The grocery store where I went to pick up their excellent premade fresh burger patties had made up a batch of shrimp and scallop kabobs, and I couldn’t resist. Had those last night marinated in a tangy Japanese salad dressing, quickly grilled, and served on a bed of jasmine rice. Sounds weird but this was a great tip from a chef. That stuff is also good for marinating cremini or portobello mushrooms, mixed with a bit of teriyaki sauce. But only when grilling. For stir-fying smaller cremini mushrooms I just use herbed garlic butter. Wolfpup’s Famous Cheeseburgers will be for a late dinner tonight – I and the weekend guests all slept late today.
