Rock Shrimp Risotto with a salad. Manhattans to drink.*
*The Manhattans were props for a Face Time call to my gf’s 94 year old aunt. A Manhattan, up, in a chilled martini glass was always her go-to drink. Now she is in a nursing home. She sipped prune juice while we sipped Manhattans.
Tonight, imma do something I haven’t done for myself in a while: cook a proper homemade dinner.
I just procured the necessary supplies for something my ex and I came up with together. We called them “Chicken Doo-Dads” and they’re chunks of boobies stuffed with pickled jalapeño and mozzarella, then wrapped in bacon (with a couple toothpicks to hold it all together) and pan-fried.
If the chicken is roughly, I dunno, just a big bigger than a golf ball, then by the time the bacon is done - rolling every few minutes to sear all sides - the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is all melty.
We had fantasies about going out for dinner tonight, but by afternoon my dear had a headache and I had ganked my knee this morning, so we decided to stay home. She’d picked up some Carnegie Deli corned beef, and I had it on sourdough with mustard. A few El Chingons and a Stars loss for dessert.
Tomorrow’s gonna be homemade fried cheeseburgers. MMMMMmmmm.
I got a pound of ground cow (they slaughter the animal and grind everything), so I’m grilling burgers tonight. I’m looking forward to it, the meat is beautiful.
A glorious spring afternoon over at the BiLs , lots of grilled cow, chasing the pup arround, Malbec, tres leches cake for dessert, then a snifter of Lagavulin as we chilled in the early evening.
Yay for teenager designated drivers.
One of our favorite restaurants on earth is Yvette’s, a neighborhood restaurant on a side street in the Quartier D’Orleans on the French side of Saint Martin. It’s difficult to find, but had a glowing review in Gourmet Magazine years ago.
They gave us their conch recipes (Conch Ceviche and Conch & Dumplings), but the instructions begin with details on how to pick the best conch at the seafood market in Marigot.
So, we substitute scallops for conch and dream.
To drink I opened a bottle of St Angus, a sour brewed by Draai Laag Brewery.
