What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

We had Wendy’s tonight. I ordered the baconator fries and a large chili and dumped my chilli on the fries because who doesn’t love loaded fries?

Hawaiian Pizza, Southern Tier 2X IPA to drink.

For dessert I Supremed a grapefruit and two oranges.

Tonight will be giant prawns seared in garlic butter and chili flakes. Not sure what I’ll have with it yet.

Beef sandwiches with ( checks fridge) provolone cheese and giardiniera.Tonight I’ll make the sub buns in the bread machine, carmelize onions and gently reheat slices of beef.

I’ve been scouting the grocery store meat aisle trying to catch a beef tenderloin roast when it gets reduced once it reaches it sell by date. Got 5 lb’er a couple weeks ago and roasted it, froze the leftovers.

That’s exactly what this place is like, a real blast from the past.

I just loved the Captain’s Wafers that came in the cracker basket when I was a kid (and we put a serious dent in them the other night too). We only ever had cheap saltines at home so that was just the bomb to me, lol.

Tonight I was invited to a friend’s house, and she makes fantastic food. We had barbacoa and discada (chorizo, breakfast sausage and bacon) tacos. Beans and rice for the sides, naturally. They were amazing. My only complaint is that I can’t get them to make them for me on command.

We had my MIL and BIL over for the day. Dinner was ribs, tortellini salad, and watermelon. Perfect summer dinner.

I’m about to throw some country style ribs on the grill. Got it set loooow and smoky. I’ll toss some asparagus on much later.

Gonna try air fryer Hasselbacks.

Roast beef slices with salt, smoky cheese spread on Triscuits, and some cheddar-and-sour-cream potato chips, with a glass of ice water. Later, homemade chocolate pie on a graham cracker crust with whipped cream.

Cheddar pub burgers, mac n cheese (out of a can!) that I tarted up a bit with pepper and extra cheese, corn on the cob and peach cobbler. Also had an excellent Chianti to go with - we’re planning on visiting the winery that made it in October and I’m sure it will be even better on premises.

Two cheese dogs with ketchup, and canned corn with butter and pepper, with a glass of ice water. For afters, another slice of chocolate pie with whipped cream.

Brats + grilled onions with corn on the cob for a side last night and leftovers today. I wish I had enough for another day of leftovers.

Yesterday was BBQ ribs, potato salad, cole slaw, cornbread, salad, cheesecake, and cookies.

Over the weekend I made “gringo” enchiladas - not authentic in the least but very tasty! I also did some BBQ chicken wings on the grill with pasta salad and sliced tomatoes.

Last night I made pepper steak and white rice. I have leftover pepper steak, but I left the damn rice on low until time to do the dishes and ended up with a stuck-on mess, and no leftover rice!

Tonight shall be… undecided. Might make a pot roast in the Instant Pot. Might make shrimp some way…

From my friend’s sushi food truck, a poke bowl with yellowtail hamachi, shoyu-tamago, summer slaw, scallion, Brazil nut, furikake, and tamari-sesame. Also a Three Little Fish futomaki made up as a chef’s choice roll.

Mac and cheese with a cut-up hot dog in it, with a good dash of Bacon Salt; Triscuits and a glass of ice water. Later, backyard raspberries and vanilla ice cream.

A bit of sirloin, with lotsa onions and a few baby potatoes.
