What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

Cheese ravioli with grated parmesan in tomato sauce, a stick of garlic bread, and some raw carrots and red pepper slices, with a glass of ice water. Later, some candy fruit slices and more ice water.

You should have followed the 2-click rule because that photo was definitely NSFW!

Teriyaki Turkey Shish-kabobs on the grill. Supreme grapefruit for dessert.

Taco salad with ground beef, hot sauce, tomato sauce, chopped lettuce and tomatoes, grated cheese. Ice water to drink, and later, some candy fruit slices.

Yesterday was pimento cheese ravioli with homemade vodka sauce, naan with tomato pesto, and a wonderful caprese salad made with burrata and tomatoes from my deck garden.

Today was racetrack casserole, refried beans and blueberries. For the casserole, I used a single jalapeno from my deck garden and that was more than enough - it’s been very dry here lately and the peppers are hot as hell as a result.

Spicy pork burgers, from a recipe I found in a newspaper, with a sriracha/mayo/brown sugar dressing. Corn on the cob.

It’s 111 here, never goes below 90, I ain’t cooking, we had pizza. I may be up to nuking some of Mama Olga’s tamales tomorrow, when it’s supposed to hit 114.

Only 101 here today, so I grilled some beef bulgogi with peppers and onions.

Since a relatively economical poke bowl place showed up nearby, I’ve been indulging when I’m too hot and lazy to cook. Like tonight. Accompanied by an Elysian Spacedust IPA. A nice simple ending to a lazy but productive weekend.

Homemade pizza with Italian sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni, green pepper, onion, olives (green and black), Mozzarela and Parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes. All washed down with cold Coca-Cola.

Turkey Keilbasi sandwiches made on the grill, served with potato salad and Pinot Grigio.

For dessert, rhubarb-strawberry-banana shortcake.

Last night was store-made marinated sirloin kabobs on the grill, assembled with green and red peppers and onion. They were marinated in red wine and … something that I’ve now forgotten. But they reminded me of a delicious striploin I’ve had a few times marinated in red wine, coffee, and spices – a rich wine flavour with a peppery touch. I sprinkled them with steak spice from a local steak house before grilling. Amazingly delicious and with a beautiful aroma. By sheer luck, I got the doneness exactly right – seared on the outside, red on the inside.

Had the leftovers for lunch today, cold with potato salad. I was going to throw them into some ramen noodles but their tender flavourful rareness was just too good for that.

Tonight will be Korean style barbecued pork kabobs. Those will be perfect for ramen, along with grilled onions and peppers and garnished with scallions.

Tomorrow will be spaghettini with marinara sauce. I have a big basket of cremini button mushrooms that will be sauteed in garlic butter as a topper, along with freshly grated Parmesan.

Pasta with bolognese sauce.

I over-velveted some meat for stroganoff, so Chinese takeout was called for

Tonight we are having hot sausage sandwiches with grilled onions and peppers at my friend’s house. Im sure plenty of beer to wash them down.

Tonight will be spicy marinated tofu and soba noodles with green onions, radishes, etc.

Homemade eggplant/spinach/sausage lasagna.

Hungarian stuffed peppers with sour cream, homemade bread with butter, cold Coca-Cola.

The rest of the leftover Korean barbecue pork in ramen noodles with mushrooms and onions and topped with soy sauce and scallions. If that’s not enough, jumbo hot dogs on the grill, but that will probably be for lunch tomorrow. Strawberries and blueberries on Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Linguine with a sauce made of fresh tomatoes, parmesan and tomato pesto, and topped with burrata and parsley. Garlic bread and watermelon to go with.
