What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

A cheeseburger with lots of A-1 Sauce, and onion rings, with a glass of ice water. Later, backyard raspberries and two scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Bodega sandwiches, watermelon and blueberry scones tonight.

Just fixed a cheap-o ramen cup, but doctored up with an egg, some green onions, and a squirt of hoisin sauce.

Ohh! Garlic. Brb, simmering garlic.

Last night we were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary. So we went to Malai Ktichen, a local Asian fusion place. We both had Chang Mai Noodles with Shrimp. Amazing stuff, still get kind of dazed when I think on how it tasted.

Tonight, I had a corn dog with jalapeno mustard and a few beers. Not as amazing as last night, but plenty tasty.

So good, I added a second egg, plus a bit of cilantro.

For a fifty-cent cuppa noodles, it comes out pretty damn good!

I put some sugar-free BBQ sauce on a couple of small frozen chicken tenderloins, and put them in the toaster oven for 25 minutes with some frozen broccoli. Quick, easy, and good.

Last night I made poutine! My gf had been talking about a trip to Canadia. I’ve been there just long enough to see the falls and Ripley, while she used to go there all the time (before she upgraded, her first husband was a hockey guy).

I air fried my french fries, made beef gravy, and bought cheese curds. I mounded the fries in a cast iron skillet, diced the curds and added them, then poured on gravy. That went under the broiler and then the skillet was placed on the table, family style.

Tonight was frozen tacos from HEB (a pair of chorizo and a pair of brisket ones), along with a can of their borracho beans. Quite tasty for frozen tacos! I’ll make sure we have some onions and cilantro on hand next time.

We’re having some friends over tonight, one of whom is vegan. Normally we’d go out to Silver Diner for their vegan options but tonight it’s delivery from this place:

Sliced a nice piece of stripped bass for sashimi. Served with seaweed salad and poutine (had leftover curds and gravy).

It’s National Hot Dog Day! Chilidogs it is.

Nothing!!!

Last night was Kizzy’s weekly Agility 2 class. I had steaks ready to put on the grill, but my gf texted from class that friends were stopping over at 8, the time she usually gets home from class.

I guess they’d already eaten. They stopped for a quick visit. Being a good host, I offered them drinks. They accepted. They stayed until close to midnight.

Not “dinner” but I sometimes don’t eat much so … earlier I had a can of sardines, with lemon juice, capers, and copious thinly sliced onion.

Now I’m having a cuppa cheap-ass ramen, but doctored up with … more thinly sliced onion plus green onion & garlic (okay, I like allium!) plus two eggs gently cooking in the broth.

Oooh! And some hoisin. Man, I gotta get more of that stuff.

I like to put that on a hoagie bun. Mmmmmm.

Ohhhhh, damn, I should try that!

For “dessert” I’m having a slice of dark toast (I like that shit one degree off “burnt”) buttered generously, sprinkled with a bit of leftover bacon from last night, then drizzled with just enough honey to not make a complete mess.

The gods must weep, for what us mortals enjoy.

Tonight we ate like children and had McDonald’s. She had little cheeseburgers and I had a QP with cheese.

I did a breakfast for dinner meal last night. There’s a little place in St Martin where we eat breakfast once or twice each vacation. We always get the Pirate’s Treasure, which I duplicated.

Started with fruit salad; cantaloupe, banana, strawberries, blueberries, orange segments.

Then on to French Toast. I sliced a baguette into thick, diagonal slices the night before, allowing them to get a bit stale in the refrigerator overnight. After dipping in eggs&cream, I seasoned with cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, allspice, and ground cloves.

I cubed two small red potatoes, chopped sweet peppers and onions and roasted them as a small side.

Turkey bacon and turkey sausages served as sides. I made espresso and freshly squeezed OJ to drink.

I made this as a surprise dinner. When my gf saw the table she yelled, “Pirate’s Treasure!!!”

It was a great dinner, but we learned that multiple cups of espresso at 9 pm is something neither of us can handle.

ETA: I sliced the bread thicker than you’d imagine, then before dipping in the eggs/cream I squish each slice. When they sit in the egg mix the slices re-expand, sucking egg into the bread.

I see lots of little simple meals have made the rounds lately (well, except for that elaborate last one!). I’ll join in. I’m low on groceries but didn’t feel like going out and predicted thunderstorms sealed the deal, so options are limited.

But I have a plate full of leftover Korean barbecue pork kabobs from the grill. The question is whether to have them with ramen noodles or Bush’s homestyle baked beans and fries. Lots of white onion to sautee and simmer with either. Time for another martini and then see what strikes my fancy.

Tuna melts tonight with leftover spinach souffle and fresh blueberries.

Looks like leftover night will be coming up next - I’ve got a crab cake, two more tuna melts and some orange beef and rice in the fridge.
