The phone keeps ringing, so I haven’t left yet. Am now sorta listening to a friend tell me about her unexciting trip to the mower repair shop. I find if I alternate “Oh,” “Uh-huh,” and “Oh, my,” she’s fooled into thinking I’m listening. And the sun came out. I wanna goooooo.
Moooom, hope you’re home sweet home by now.
I don’t think they did upgrades in Wyoming. They just sent a couple of TV tubes now and then and told us to enjoy Uncle Milty.
Aw, surely you can string it out longer than that. I have faith in you! Make kissy sounds when you pass him the sour cream. Bat your eyes and add tomato to his salad. Get him a name tag that reads “Hon.”
We got home around 8:30. I left to fetch him around 2. I am exhausted!! Traffic sucked on the way there, it took forever for the wheelchair to arrive to take him downstairs, and far too many morons nearly sideswiped me - how dare I do 60 in a 55 zone where everyone else seemed to want to do 75?? And, yes, I was in the right hand lane.
We bypassed our house and went directly to the CVS in Leonardtown - his meds won’t be ready till 10 tomorrow, dammit. We’re eating leftover chicken and I’m trying to unwind. Long-ass day…
He’s not allowed to shower yet, so I’ll help him clean up as much as I can before bed. But he’s home, and that’s what matters. Whew!
Well, sup wasn’t TOO obnoxious, but OMG the software issues! Mine crashed at least 6 times today, others reported similar results. UGH!!! I honestly do not think the PHBs bother with any actual testing before they dump this crap on us and expect us to function on calls with it.
Therapy nachos were in order today.
On the plus side, a chunk of money should be coming in fairly soon that will allow us to pay off enough debt to substantially improve monthly cash flow, so I could afford to drop to part-time in order to escape Hades Annex (big worry has been not taking a pay cut we couldn’t afford). Part-time would also be a good thing in terms of giving me more time for home matters long neglected due to the heinous schedule I have now. The hope of escape improves my mood. I have never had a job as totally infuriating as this one, and I’ve done call center before, as well as retail cashier and motel housekeeping (among other things).
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 44 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and cloudy for the day. Tomorrow promises rain/tstorms/apocalypse. We shall see. The biggest item on today’s agenda is to go over to the church house and deal with Altar candles. I know at least three of the candles in the candelabra need new wicks, a thing I am somehow the most adept person there at doin’, plus I am sure every candle outside of the Paschal Candle needs to be topped off with liquid paraffin. This all sounds much more involved than it really is, as this will take less than an hour to do. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. OYKW’s sallit will have extra 'maters, of course.
Nettie/Sean here’s hopin’ you can go to part-time at Hades Annex. Besides stress relief, it can also afford you time to find sump’n better if that is what you desire.
Nellie and Miss_Owl make no mistake, there will be liberal use of “Hon.” I also foresee several days of askin’ him if he wants extra sour cream, even on things that do not require sour cream. This shall not be easily lived down. I am really likin’ the little imp smiley!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and oh so much bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire since I shall be somewhere where I might be seen. Oh how difficult is my life! I may even need to go by Krispy Kreme for some medicinal donuts!
Semi-awake but still abed. FCD woke me twice for help, but mostly he did OK. He seems to like the new walker and his legs seem to be a bit stronger. And so recovery begins.
I got enough sleep that should permit me to function and one of the first things is to read his discharge paperwork so I know what’s going on.
On top of that, the chimney/insert cleaner will be here around 9 or so. And Roxy comes probably after 9. So good times ahead…
And I’m up, showered, dressed, fed, and waiting for the guy from the hearth company to come do his cleanings. I helped FCD “shower” - those hand-held shower heads are great, and the shower stool we got after his last surgery fit perfectly in the tub. So he’s clean and comfy in his recliner. Roxy should be here soon.
I’ve got a loaf of quick bread going in the machine. It’ll be the stupid block shape of the bread maker, but I don’t want to mess with the oven and all that today, so load and bake is the order of the day. And laundry. And dishes. At least I don’t have to drive to Baltimore!
It’s amazing how laundry and dishes seem to reproduce until there’s a big ole pile every single day. Best of luck with the bread block FCM, and I’m so glad FCD is home. I hate waiting for a discharge from the hospital. I get that they’re busy and it’s not a hotel, but for Pete’s sake don’t tell me it’s time to go home only to have me cool my heels for two hours.
So far I haven’t found myself in charge of the committee, but the day’s not over. Luckily I actually enjoy seeing all the tentacles in the law (it’s a big part of what I do), but bippity, if they could turn it into a romance novel or I could help write the law and insert the words “turgid” or “tumescent” every once in a while, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I once had a bet with a friend at work that I couldn’t slip Star Wars references into my client presentation on Medicare reimbursement, but I drank top-shelf whiskey that night!
Today is grey and icky, but it is Friday (hopefully - my days have been mixed this week). Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary but we both keep forgetting. Oh, I got my hair cut last night and asked to have it dyed burgundy. It’s dark enough you can’t really see it until I walk outside in the sun and suddenly it’s a bright purple halo, so I’ll manage to look all semi-professional for my meetings today, but then I’ll walk outside and be a candle. Yay!
Well, it’s Friday and it’s my RDO, so that’s a good thing.
I don’t know what I plan to do today. Maybe some yardwork, maybe some housework, maybe some retail therapy. Who knows…
I’m glad FCD is home, FCM. I hope the recovery continues to go smoothly.
I am loving the liberal use of “Hon” and batting eyelids idea. That sounds hilarious.
It’s currently 46 degrees and cloudy outside. We’re supposed to reach a high of 62 degrees. Assuming the wind doesn’t kick up, that’s good weedin’ weather. Not too hot, not too cold, just perfect.
taters~sounds like we have the same weather today. Im’a going to pass on the weeding though. I’ll just sit in the sun in the big bay window and occasionally look up from da Dope to watch squirrels.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s bright and shiny out there, apparently it’s warm too. Weather app says “This is the perfect weather for people who like lame fucking shit” and promises me 16C/61F all day, mostly sunny. I’d agree with that.
I’m glad it’s Friday, been a long week and I am so ready for Friday night espresso martinis! Nothing but whinging whiny students and grumbling academics so far. My performance review yesterday went well so at least I know I am still awesome I’ve met with two of my minions today and told them they’re both awesome too. One of them wants to do a PhD in September so she’s hoping to be part-time awesome instead.
Mooom glad to hear you got home safely and FCD is more comfortable. I know just what you mean about recovering at home and hospitals wanting you out quickly. I used to get summoned to bust mum out of hospital at the earliest possible moment, usually when she decided she wanted to be at home, before the doc was entirely happy for it to happen. But it’s true, she did recover better there and it’s much nicer to be in comfortable familiar surroundings.
Only one more hour until it’s my weekend too! Cocktails and movies tonight, errands and cleaning tomorrow, and then Sunday will involve the gym and collecting some cat litter/puppy pads from the pet rescue lady for the benefit of fostermog.
Well, now we all wanna go eat there! It’ll be a fun contest, to see who else gets extra squirts (snicker) and who gets one lone jelly tub.
You are a FAR nicer person than I. I’d been ringing my own doorbell (“Oops! Gotta go!”) before I’d sacrifice going out in nice weather in favor of a boring-ass story about nothing in particular.
Damn. You play hardball.
Get out!
Use the downtime once you’re part-time to find something better, or at least, less crappy. Consider that one of your “projects” you mentioned.
I mean, anything would be less-crappy than current, right?
Cream filled? Or sour cream filled?
Wow. That sounds absolutely amazing!
I got rescheduled to come in tomorrow, so today’s my lone Blessed Day Off this week. Ditto next week - six friggin’ days scheduled.
They’re doing an interview blitz today, and I sincerely hope a plethora of bright, articulate, seasoned customer service veterans will apply.
We need about a half-dozen more workers before any of us can hope to get more than a single day off, and especially to avoid the dreaded “clopening” shifts: close late night, open early next morning.
Anyway, I have my own plethora (of stuff to do, not that I wanna) and am currently enjoying a coffee indulgence, complete with something called “cold foam” which is delicious.
The house, at least, is clean (thanks to my pair of paid cleaning angels) and it’s warm enough for me to leave the side door open for Nikki and Monkey to roam in & out.
I was readying myself for a scathing call to the pellet stove people. Despite me showing the tech where to plug in his vacuum, he plugged it into the UPS under my desk! And the sudden surge blew it out. It took for-freekin’-ever to figure out how to stop the alarm and restart it, especially since I couldn’t look it up on line because, duh, there was no place to plug in my computer. However, it’s all good now and I won’t have to fillet the poor guy.
As soon as he’s done and when FCD gets up from his nap, I’ll bundle Roxy into the car and go fetch his pain meds and some lunch. Dishes are all clean, and half the laundry is done. I’m exhausted and it’s not even noon!!!
I’m on a conference call right now listening to a training and this dog in the background legit sounds like he’s Tibetan Throat Singing in the background. This is amazing.
And thank you, shoe! I was a little shy about it, but honestly at this age I can do whatever the heck I want with my hair, dangit.
I’ve just had a Vegemite sandwich for breakfast. I had a slice of Tillamook medium cheddar that I’d cut off the block with a cheese slicer and put into a baggie in the fridge. For a change, I decided to take the chill off of it before putting it on the sandwich. Apparently ten seconds is too long for that purpose. It pretty much melted in the baggie. But it was all good.
Morning all. Have had the morning meal and made a short dash to a soccer field nearby that we might be playing at tomorrow (it all depends on the weather, which is supposed to be miserable) so I could draw my parents a map. Practice with the boys tonight.
FCM, happy to hear FCD is back home and hope the prescriptions help alleviate any pain he’s in. I’ve got my two sitting in front of the computer since I spend a lot of time here, at least that way I can’t ignore them…
talky, dogs is weird…absolutely lovable but weird. And congrats on the hair style.
shoe,
They’re doing an interview blitz today, and I sincerely hope a plethora of bright, articulate, seasoned customer service veterans will apply.
Yeah. Right. Hope it does get you some more days off.
swampy, googled “Three Squares Diner” and it looks like a small chain of them down in S. Georgia. We’ll have to do a MMP meetup at them one of these days.
SeNe (still need a good replacement for Nettie), hope said chunk of money eases the pressure at work…and hope the quest for something better succeeds soon.
gotti, thanks for the info. The guy mumbled something about the type of ductwork I have and showed me badly developed pictures purportedly showing tears in them, but I’ll wait for the Fall and get a couple of other pros in to give me their opinions.
OK, onward to the afternoon of Sudoku and Scrambles and long hot baths…such is the life of the idle retired…
