What's the occasion in the MMP?

[rant] The week before last I stopped at my bank to ask them to get me a new debit card. Mine was in pretty rough shape. They said it would come in the mail. A few days later my wife tried to use her card at the ATM in front of the covid closed to customers bank branch. It came up account not found. We drove around to the window and the teller said it was probably just an ATM glitch and made the transaction for us. T

Tuesday my new card came in the mail. I activated it and went about my business. Wednesday I went to the store and when I used the card to pay for my groceries it came up as an invalid card. I paid with another card and we went to the main bank, where they are actuality letting people inside. I talked to the personal bank manager. She did some research and found that there was an error made when ordering my card and the expiration date was not properly incremented. She was going to get me another card.

This morning we stopped at the branch bank ATM. My wife’s card came back up as account not found. I called the person I had talked to Wednesday. She did some research and found that the person who ordered my new card (and did not increment the expiration date thereby bricking my card) also cancelled my wife’s card.

Now we have been promised new cards that are correctly formatted were ordered Next Day. This means probably Friday.

I see a bank change in my near future. My daughter had worked at our bank for 20 years and was head hunted by another bank for a management position. I didn’t want to mess with changing things then, but this has changed my mind. [/rant]

That sucks, hippy. I’m sorry you had to go through the runaround. I’d probably change banks, too.

I’ve had a random epiphany today. I need to enroll overlyboy in a woodworking class soon so he can build whatever the heck he wants out of more solid materials without hurting himself. The kid is hellbent on building things. Absent any scrap wood, he just makes whatever it is out of cardboard. He just recently took apart a nerf gun and a few pens, rigged it up to some cardboard tubing, and created a modified air compressor that’ll shoot small paper pellets.

He’s 14 going on 15, and old enough to be eligible for one of the local woodworking workshops that they have locally. At least I know what he’s getting for his birthday now. Maybe I should take a class with him. Hmmmm. Power tools.

Quick run to Food Lion turned into $85 grocery bill - and I didn’t buy any meats!!! Of course, more than a quarter of it was for Diet Coke.

FCD is napping, daughter has taken Roxy home, groceries are put away, and I’m trying to decide what to do for supper. I think I want to have Chinese delivered, but I’ll wait till he wakes before doing anything.

It’s nice that it’s quiet at last.

It could happen. Last time they hired five (5) people, and three (3) of 'em are still here.

One - a former EMT who rolls graciously with whatever is happening - is exceptional & I think management might now heavily weigh in favor of anyone with medical training.

But everyone is bitter about the two (2) hires who turned into no-call-no-shows … especially because one did. not. partake. and while enjoying cannabis isn’t necessarily a requirement for the job, it did seem a bit weird for someone to apply when they didn’t know the product.

Especially (pt. 2) because they no-call-no-showed on 4/20 week when we were absolutely slammed with customers.

Up from napping. Made baked fried chicken, home made mac n’ cheese, and green beans, onions, and peppers for dinner.

Glad that FCD’s first night home was uneventful Mooooooom.

That sucks about the bank hippy. I think I’d be looking at a change too.

shoe, I used to work in a bar where the owner didn’t drink. Of course, that doesn’t mean that he never had (he was in recovery). If the guy had never imbibed, that would just be weird though.

Irked, took Nelson to the dog park, picked up cheap Chinese for supper and am now chilling.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Too bad you don’t use my credit union. There are several branches where I can walk in, present my ID, and walk out with a replacement debit card in my hot little hand.

I had the same kind of day as hippy, so if misery loves company…

I got an email from my credit card company saying my SSN was found on the Dark Web. The email checked out as legit, but it doesn’t tell me what to do other than keep an eye on things. I’m extremely cautious about using my SSN and am not happy about this. Finding all that out took way too much time.

I also got a new modem from my internet company. Easy-peasy instructions, but it didn’t work. I finally got on a chat with an agent named Tamal. He did a few things, but it still didn’t connect. Two hours later, I finally have internet again.

Ugh. I shall shake the dust of this day off my feet and hope for a less frustrating one tomorrow.

Hugs all around.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and cloudy/windy with a predicted high of 74 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse for the day. A big band of dark green and yellow stuff mixed with some red is on the way. Fine by “Hon” (yes I have been doin’ this nonstop) and me as there are no plans for the day and no where either of us needs or wants to go. Goin’ to retrieve the mail from the box will be the highlight of the day. Burgers ‘n fries with fixin’s shall be the main meal of the day. We’ll probably do this mid-afternoonish. The beauty of a nice covered deck area where the grill lives is grillin’ can happen come rain or shine!

A mumpfest at Three Squares Diner would be innerestin’ I suppose. We might even get kicked out! :stuck_out_tongue: I doubt that would be quite the badge of honor as gettin’ kicked out of Waffle House is, however.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

You’d think I learn. Chinese food makes me THIRSTY!!! So I was drinking before bed, then up to pee and drink more, lather, rinse, repeat… I got a lot of sleep but in a lot of separate mini-sleeps. Glad I don’t have to go anywhere or do anything today.

In fact, the main plan of the day is to get FCD’s computers set up properly. Daughter and SIL didn’t label all the cables properly last week when they disassembled things, so something just ain’t quite right. And, of course, everything is wire-tied together, so first order of business in snipping all the wire ties, then starting from scratch connecting things. Once we get everything working correctly, I’ll re-tie it all. So I’ll be spending more time than I like on the floor under the desk. Woohoo… :stuck_out_tongue:

And I lied - I do have to run to Food Lion for OJ. Since the pain meds are opiates, constipation is a major issue. Which means I need to make regular (heh) cocktails of miralax mixed in OJ for my sweetie. And the Leonardtown Food Lion didn’t have FCOJ yesterday, so I need to run to Charlotte Hall. I should probably do that as soon as I shower and dress.

Meanwhile, it’s 39-stoopit-degrees this morning, with rain promised later today and overnight. I really should run John Deere around the back yard before the precip arrives, so that’s now on my list. Fun times ahead!

Happy Saturday!!

Knoebels opens today!! :carousel_horse: :ferris_wheel: :roller_coaster:

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and a load of jeans in the wash. I need to go for some groceries today, but that’s about it. It’s rainy, so no trips to the dog park, the hiking trail or on the bike. Oh, well, at least it wasn’t 36 freakin’ degrees when I got up.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Rain started about 2am and is still going strong as I type this, so all soccer activity has been cancelled for Saturday. Lucky for me I can read a weather map and have re-scheduled both games for the weekdays.

As for me, will probably do some work about the house, nothing to go outside for.

OW, hope the weather is nice in your region for Knoebels. Enjoy.

shoe, hope the new hires all work out…just the cynic in me, I guess…and read your workplace rant in the appropriate thread and wish I could do something (

That’s awful, and such a time suck. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that hot mess.

Good morning one and all. The rain moved in overnight and it’s currently 46 degrees outside with an expected high of 51.

Yesterday the sun actually came out, so I mowed the lawn and weeded. I got the bin the rest of the way filled up with grass clippings, weeds, and cut-up branches. That thing is going to be pretty damn heavy because I was packing that stuff down in order to fit more weeds in there.

I am debating whether or not to indulge in retail therapy or just do some household chores. I am getting a little stir crazy. On the other hand, my car is freshly washed and I don’t want it getting all dirty again. I mean, it’s going to get dirty come Monday, but no sense in making it even dirtier.

I have to call the TSP folks on Monday because for some reason I cannot log into my account and the system is telling me that my account number does not exist. I logged into the account just fine last month, so I don’t know what the hell is going on. Annoying and worrisome, but I’ll get it squared away. All these years and I’ve never had a problem, ever, but now there is an issue.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but this last month or two has felt like everything is just a slog. Nothing is easy, there is always some obstacle to overcome and I’m just sick of it. Granted some of the stuff is pretty minor, but it all adds up. Example of the minor stuff; deliveries not arriving when expected, or at all. These last few months have gotten bad, and it doesn’t matter who is doing the delivery. Sometimes it’s the vendor, sometimes it’s the delivery system. Perfect example; my hose reels were supposed to arrive yesterday. They did not. They sat in Minnesota for two or three days because someone couldn’t be arsed to fix a bar code error. I checked this morning, and they were in Washuogal, WA. That’s down on the Oregon/Washington border. I’ll bet I won’t get the damn things until Monday. I ordered these things seven days ago, and if I’m told to expect delivery on a certain day, I expect it. Another example, I ordered a mandolin (food slicer not the instrument) from Amazon last weekend. Was supposed to arrive Monday. It didn’t, tracking said there was an issue. Then showed as shipped last Wednesday, but nothing ever came and there was never an update. I asked for a refund yesterday and finally got it. These are just the two latest examples of what I call delivery fatigue because I’m guessing delivery systems are just overloaded.

There are many more examples of work-related and home related stuff, but I’m not going into it all. I’m just having a “day” is all, and I need break. I think part of it is also the fact that I haven’t been able to walk or run, and I’m very frustrated about that.

Hippy, I’m sorry to hear about the debit card woes. That is indeed frustrating.

shoe, I hope your new hires work out.

Home from unbagging. The FNG we got as bag stuffer/heaver has the work ethic of a sloth with Attention Deficit Disorder. 62 degrees Amurikin here, and cloudy, awaitin the rain.

Yay!

Lordy, gimme the strength. I gotta go back!

Cleaned both litter boxes yesterday and went out for not one, not two, but three fresh tubs of the stuff. Between lifting them in & out of my cart, off the checkout, and out of my trunk - not to mention carrying one of 'em down to the basement - my right forearm is SORE!

Well, off to shower and get dressed. Y’all have a nice afternoon.

“Lord give me patience. Becuase if you give me strength, Imma gonna need bail money too.”

Phase 1 of getting FCD’s computers set up is done. I unraveled the spaghetti of cords, and now the two computers, the monitors, the mouse, and the KVM are all playing well together. Next step is to get the computers talking to each other and getting both computers to talk to the printer. Last step will be setting up the speakers and the microphone. With luck, by the end of tomorrow, it’ll all be working as it should.

I’ve got a loaf of French bread in the oven - it should be done in about 20 minutes. Then I’ll help FCD hose off before I run the mower around the back yard. And I need to decide what to do for supper so I can thaw something edible.

{{{shoe}}} - Face it, you are in serious need of a Sugar Daddy, and I’m not talking about this kind.

Twas a productive morning at Casa Paint. I built a new step off the back porch. Dunno if the ground has sunk or I’m just gettin old, but it was getting too big a one step down.

Mowed the lawn for the first time this season. Sadly, I had to push mow the whole thing. The riding mower needs new tires, and I found what looks like a fuel line on the floor under it. I can’t see where it came from. I’ll need the former owner of it to stop by and take a look. Unfortunately, for me anyway, he just had back surgery and likely can’t bend over enough to see what’s going on.

On to the rest of the day. My Sox are playing at 1, and it’s a beautiful day, so I’m seeing much back porch, radio, and book in my future. Might be the day to awaken the grill from its winter slumber.

Stay safe, all.
